Rain or shine, this farmers market is open every Saturday morning. There's lots of organic produce, and enough food vendors to get a nice breakfast here while shopping. Live music enhances the overall vibe of this place.
I like the last aisle especially, because there's plenty of baked treats, as well as things like pasta, hummus, coffee, Bitchin' Sauce, sprouted grains, juice, fermented foods, and raw honey.
The produce consists of your basic salad veggies and fruits. It's odd to me that the growers of Japanese veggies out here (Vista, Temecula, etc) actually have stalls at the Saturday Torrance farmers market in Wilson Park.
I would recommend to come early, as the parking lot fills really fast. Also, bring cash. I know some vendors accept cards, but I had the misfortune of having my debit card info stolen and my account drained a while back. I used it to make an impulse hairpin purchase here. Lesson learned.
Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quaint way to spend a Saturday morning, and those who like supporting local/small businesses.
Pros:
- open early (8am), rain or shine
- Organic, local produce
- Bigger than the O'side market
- Food vendors
- Herbs, flowers, crafts (like jewelry and hairpins)
- tables for dining
- seating to watch musicians
Cons:
- aggressive drivers in parking lot
- limited produce selection (no daikon or Japanese cucumbers, etc)
- not pet-friendly (I know a few of you who care)
- restroom is limited to a Porta-Potty, so go before you arrive
- not a lot of taste-testing tables here (I'll post pics from Wilson Park's market next time I go. Practically every produce vendor has samples of the fruits they are selling!)
