One Local College Is Helping an Italian Restaurant Grow All Its Produce | Eater LA

"Opened earlier this year inside the DoubleTree by Hilton in Pomona and led by chef David Wolfskill, this hotel restaurant is partnering with hyper-local farms and students from Cal Poly Pomona’s Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture with the goal of sourcing nearly 100% of its produce from within greater Pomona, while planning to source meat and seafood from across California—a notable push toward sustainable, local procurement for a chain-hotel dining outlet." - Farley Elliott

Vita Italian Grill in Pomona is absolutely outstanding! From the moment we walked in, the warm, inviting atmosphere made us feel right at home. The filet mignon ($68) was cooked to absolute perfection — tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor in every bite. The Caesar salad ($16) was crisp, fresh, and perfectly dressed, balancing the richness of the steak beautifully. Service was attentive and friendly without being overbearing, and every detail showed true care and passion for great food. A must-visit for anyone who loves exceptional Italian cuisine with top-notch service!

ALI the previous manager is back!!! We decided to give it another try for Father’s Day as the reviews were looking good after our bad experience. It was on point! They had half lobsters, large Maine lobster claws, crab and large shrimp! They also had a seafood boil and the most AMAZING short ribs you will ever eat! We knew something had significantly changed and then we saw ALI! He has made it even better than before! Daniel was our server and did an outstanding job keeping those mimosas full and clearing the many dishes we had! He has been there for years and always on point! Arely was also amazing as this girl was serving up those lobsters like a pro! Super friendly and always giving you what you wanted. Don’t be shy, just tell her what you need!❤️ Desserts are always on point! I would love to see some Dubai chocolate mousse. Bring that on Vita! Thank you again Ali for returning and making this place EPIC again!

Hidden Gem in East LA - Stunning Patio, Fresh Ingredients, & Unforgettable Gigli Pasta! 🍴Vita Italian is truly a hidden treasure in Pomona! From the moment you walk in, the resort-style ambiance with mountain views, open patio seating, and giant floor-to-ceiling windows make it feel like a vacation escape right in LA's Eastside. 🥬 What sets this place apart is their farm-to-table philosophy--all vegetables come straight from Cal Poly Pomona's own farm, and even the beer is house-brewed! The freshness is undeniable and elevates every bite. We ordered several dishes, and every single one was memorable: 🐟 Tuna Poke Cannoli: A fun and fresh twist--crunchy shell filled with buttery poke, paired with a citrusy yuzu kosho aioli and colorful veggie crudités. A flavor bomb! 🐙 Grilled Octopus: Perfectly charred, tender octopus served over a soft polenta cake, paired with blood oranges and a vinaigrette that added a bright, zesty contrast. 🍝 Gigli Mushroom Pasta with Roasted Chicken: The gigli pasta, shaped like little flower blossoms, was handmade and captured the sauce beautifully. Earthy mushrooms, garlic, white wine, and pecorino created a rich, balanced flavor, and the seared chicken breast added that hearty touch. It was my first time trying this pasta shape and I'm OBSESSED. 🧀 Charcuterie Board: Loved the selection of truffle cheese, cured meats, sweet melon with prosciutto, pistachio jam, and real honeycomb. So well curated! 🍮 Desserts: The Tiramisu was cloud-like with just the right espresso hit; the Chocolate Nocciola is a dream for Nutella lovers; and the Panna Cotta was creamy, silky, and surprisingly light--an elegant finish. 🌇The patio is filled with Instagrammable touches: a floral wall, statement peacock chairs, and perfect golden hour lighting. Ideal for date nights or brunch with friends. 🅿️ Bonus: Free parking, which is a huge win in LA! 🥳 Can't wait to come back, especially for their weekend brunch (all-you-can-eat with steak & seafood!). This spot is a must-visit if you're into fresh food, gorgeous views, and next-level pasta.

We got stuck after visiting from Texas and the black guy from the front I'm sorry I don't remember his name but the bald one took care of us and even gave us free breakfast which is a lot because three people for 3 days would have been over $ 100.00 the breakfast was amazing and also the beds were amazing the place was very clean and very luxurious we were scared to rent a hotel in Pomona but this place really was gorgeous and high class!

Google
I was very pleasantly surprised by this spot. Beautifully decorated, modern & very classy! The bartender was very attentive & seemed to really enjoy his job.. The food was great! Really Great!!!..., I mean, I just got back from Italy & this restaurant blew it out of the water. / I'm definitely going back!

I dined at an Italian restaurant inside the DoubleTree hotel and had a fantastic experience. The restaurant was very clean, and the staff were nice and attentive. The food was amazing, and the drinks were excellent. The bathrooms, located right outside the restaurant, were also very clean. The view from our table was beautiful, offering an amazing view of the mountains. We visited during the day, but we will definitely be back in the evening to enjoy the view at sunset. Overall, a great experience!

Google
We held our company holiday party here over the weekend, and it was fantastic. The view was gorgeous, and Jasmine, the manager, was incredibly helpful throughout the event. We had a total of 95 RSVPs and reserved the patio, though in hindsight, a restaurant buyout might have been a better option since the space felt a bit cramped, especially as our guests wanted to dance. The staff was attentive and efficient, regularly clearing used dishes. The food was excellent, and the buffet setup worked well to accommodate our guests.

Google
Dinner here was a real treat! The atmosphere was welcoming and large windows offered great views! Our server, Nick, was very familiar with the menu and made good suggestions. The food - exceptional. We went with the Pesto Pasta and the portions were generous and delicious. We also shared a pizza and veggie appetizer and the veggies were fresh and the dressings and hummus tasted "home-made". I look forward to our next meal here!

Yelp
We had the best server tonight her name was Patricia our party of 12 really enjoyed the food and ambiance. She was very attentive to all our needs and special request. She answered any questions about the menu we had. I ate the linguine shrimp scampi and absolutely loved it. I absolutely recommend coming here.

Yelp
We had my husband's memorial dinner at the Doubletree Hotel in Pomona and the staff and service was absolutely incredible. We had never been taken care of as well as were were at the dinner of 250 of our guests and then again the next morning, at Sunday Brunch. Ali, Emily, Johnathan, Michael...the entire staff was Fabulous! THANK YOU!!!

Yelp
Arely our waitress was great! Great service great food! Had the bolognese and the chicken Parmesan. Both really good

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place. They have a great view, the decor is nice, clean.. everything checks out in that aspect. We came here a few years back for dinner and it wasn't all that great for the price. The food was not there at all. We figured we would come back for a quick date night before heading over to our final destination. And, again, it was very promising as we arrived. We were greeted very nicely. No wait. Got our seat quickly. Good view. Our waitress was very friendly, very kind. She checked in on us a few times. She did great. BUT! Man, the food and drinks just were not there... we ordered 805 beer but it was Disgusting! I love beer and I can drink almost anything but this was just horrible. It tasted like it was either rotten, dirty tap, or something. No thank you. Our waitress was totally cool, got us a model. We ordered the carbonara and a charcuterie board to share. The board came out first. The presentation was beautiful.. but again the flavor was not there. Some of the meat didn't taste right or look right. The carbonara was very overcooked, no flavor, extremely greasy... again. Totally wanted to love this place but it's just not there. I did notice a lot of other parties were ordering the pizza... so that might be safer than the other stuff on the menu..

Yelp
Came in mid day Saturday around 1:30 pm place had multiple tables available and for what ever reason me and my 2 friends got refused service at this location! Vita Italian Do better !!!!!

Yelp
Vita located in the city of Pomona is a all you can eat style brunch food. If you are a seafood lover this place might be for you. They offer a ton of different seafood from lobster, crab, shrimp, and much more. Also, the mimosa drinks kept on getting filled every time it was empty. I came here twice and since then I feel like this place has improved a lot! They have a pasta bar station, an omelet station, and a prime rib/ meat section where someone carves it up for you. We came hungry and left stuffed!

Yelp
Found this restaurant via Yelp, I wouldn't have known it existed otherwise! I never really think of eating inside a hotel, I don't know why, but sometimes they have great places. I used to eat at the restaurant inside the Arcadia Embassy Suites often when I worked nearby and it was always good. Both the Embassy Suites and Vita entrances are through the rear (facing away from Temple Ave.), but enter through the right entrance to get directly to the resturant. Parking can be a bit unnerving....spots outside are all kind of tight and are on a slope. The restaurant itself is very nice, it's very spacious, and the decor is very modern and pretty. The view is nice, overlooking the freeway with a view of the mountains. There's a private room to the left when you first walk in, looks like a nice place for a small party or lunch meeting. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan sandwich and the Pasta Carbonara. Both were very good! The chicken parm was fresh and HOT when it came out, and didn't know until I chomped into my first bite of the sandwich and had to fan my mouth due to the temperature. The carbonara was nice and creamy and pasta was cooked perfect. I would love to come back when I'm craving Italian and try more of the menu!

Yelp
The overall experience here was beautiful. They had every kind of food you can probably think of they had to make your own pasta, make your own omelette and a carving station all the staff was very friendly and very attentive. There was so much food. You definitely were welcome to get as much as you want. The bacon was nice and crisp and I did enjoy the cinnamon roll. Everything you picked you would eat off of your plate nothing tasted unfresh however, you do have to pay for drinks other than the mimosas the only issue I had is that you had to pay 18% tip, which was already included, but was not stated anywhere upon arrival. It was $70 per person which is kind of pricey but again the food was very good quality and you could eat as much as you want. They did really good with seating and took our reservations quickly and made sure to place us very close to the to the food since we had a wheelchair user present, which made it so easy for us to get our food.

Yelp
I wish I could give this spot more stars. Location: honestly the most random place to put it. Right next to a DoubleTree in the middle of nowhere. Plenty of parking onsite. Decor: more of the standard modern Italian vibe. Lots of white and sleek tables. Being Mother's Day weekend and a Saturday afternoon, you would think cut the restaurant some slack. They're swamped. First of all, it wasn't that busy. Restaurant was half empty. I saw plenty of servers around as well. We had a big party of 16. Managed to wrangle everyone in to order. We ordered grilled octopus, wagyu meatballs, bruschetta and a bread plate for appetizers. For entree I ordered the Chopped Italian and Lobster Pasta. Now the appetizers were quite tasty and out quick. The Lobster Pasta and service alone are enough to make sure I don't come back. The steep price of $40. We ordered food at 12 noon. It wasn't served till almost 3pm. I had to leave at 1 due to another engagement but attached is my sad lobster leftovers. Disgusting btw. Overcooked and the pasta is just spaghetti I can make at home for $5. Biggest waste of money. No excuse for the tardiness or lack of service. It was an almost $1000 bill that included 18% tip for big parties. Will not be back.

Yelp
I have visited this restaurant a few times during happy hour and also dinner. The place is spacious and well-decorated, also has an extensive bar. The beverages are somehow consistent, but I had tasted different cocktails and found them inconsistent at times. The food is delicious but also inconsistent. They have a nice balcony with fire pits where you can enjoy alfresco food and drinks. The waiters are nice and helful , parking is impressively big . The restroom facilities are always clean and neat. I recommend this place.

Yelp
I went there last weekend for a private party. We had a great time until the encounter with one particular bartender. I didn't get her name, but she's got long blonde hair and she was very rude from get go so we just figured OK. She's having a bad day something's going on, but she continued to be like that throughout the night and even Chase is down and demanded payment which was embarrassing to the party so I offered to pay with my Apple Pay and she took my phone from me and never came back. I had to go looking for her by that time we had asked to speak with the manager, and this young girl came out, and I honestly was shocked on the way she handled the situation lacking experience, lacking customer service I was just shocked. I hope nobody has to have the same experience at this place because it's a nice restaurant and the food is OK

Yelp
FIRST TIME & NOT THE LAST! First time here today for my Gf's birthday! It's great, food is great, service is great, great ambiance, great everything! Will definitely come back!! Arely, she's awesome! Armando is great too!! Emily awesome!!

Yelp
Met up with a friend here and thought we'd try a new Italian spot. The staff was friendly and welcoming, nice ambiance with outdoor patio seating. I had the Papardelle Bolognese and while it wasn't bad, just seemed to have a slight imbalance of tomato sauce cooked with the meat making it more acidic for my liking. Portions were decent otherwise and they had live saxophone music which was a nice touch! Just a reminder this is located within the Doubletree hotel with parking in the rear.

Yelp
Came here with a large group for a birthday dinner. Patricia our server was awesome, 10/10! The mushroom pasta and bread board were pretty good. Good atmosphere inside. Food felt a bit on the pricy end though.

Lynn C.

Yelp
When I want good Italian food in my area, this is my go-to place. The food is delicious and the ambiance is very relaxing with a nice view of the freeway and the mountains. There's also an outdoor area that is perfect when the weather is cool. Tonight, I chose this place again to celebrate a birthday. Had the eggplant parmigiana which was yummy! Joseph, our server, was friendly and attentive. Thank you, Joseph! Then again, I have never been disappointed with the service here

Yelp
Had a lovely dinner on the outside patio. Our server, Anna, was wonderful. She's SO very personable. Food was delicious! Thanks Anna for the great experience :-)

Yelp
We came to celebrate my sister birthday and Julio was our server. He was friendly and attentive and very nice. Helped us with a few questions regarding the menu. Thank you Julio for your amazing service.

Yelp
We had a family dinner at this restaurant and the entire experience was amazing not to mention the very welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. Patricia our server was so friendly and attentive. The presentation of the food was outstanding and the entire meal as well as desserts were delicious. We will definitely be returning to Vita. Thank you Marlene for making sure that our time spent there was more than we expected. You have a wonderful staff and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
This is my first time here and the service and food is amazing. The quality of food is fresh and the workers Silvia and Rely are so helpful and friendly. Not to mention the ambiance and view is epic! Definitely will be coming back here!!

Cortnie H.

Yelp
Joseph at Vita was great! Ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and it was so delicious! Try the Basil Martini. The patio is so pleasant and the service is wonderful.

Yelp
The food is really good! Every meal we had was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I really suggest the Braised Beef Rigatoni. Hands down, Marlene and Patricia, gave us the best service in town!

Yelp
I want to give the HIGHEST marks I can to an amazing server, Anna went out of her way to make sure the had everything we needed and wanted for our dining experience. I own a small business and I have come to expect a level of service when I'm out and about, most of the time I am really really disappointed. I have stayed here at the hotel before and eaten at the restaurant so I know the food is amazing, service last time was not bad but nothing that I would have taken time out to write about. However this time I could not have been better taken care of. Anna thank you for making this a very memorable night.

Yelp
Kind of disappointed with Mother's Day brunch yesterday. They increase the price to $90 (compared to the usual $70) for Mother's Day. Our reservation was at 1:30 and by the time we were seated, we saw that every table had these huge lobsters. We got so excited and went to get some for ourselves but the worker told us that they were no longer serving lobster. If we're making reservations for a certain amount of people, don't you think they would take into account how many lobsters to order for a special occasion brunch? Honestly felt like I got jipped with the price I paid for not having the full brunch experience. It was also VERY hot on Mother's Day. I understand the room with all the windows could get very hot, but the least they could do was close the doors to the patio, or increase the AC. Everyone in the room looked very uncomfortable.

Yelp
I love everything about the restaurant, the ambience, service, and most importantly the quality and tasty food. Great menu choices and reasonably price. Local restaurant, great parking availability. As you walk in warm greeting by friendly staff. Bright open modern atmosphere with a great view of the mountain and freeways. Came couple times before but each time, had a wonderful experience. I would greatly recommend this restaurant. Hidden Gem

Yelp

Yelp
This place is a popular venue. We got to Vita around 4:15 on a Saturday afternoon. The bar was relatively empty so we got our food and drinks right away. My friend and I had about 45 minutes of decent conversation before the crowd arrived in the bar area. All semblance of service disappeared and understandably so, due to the crowd. The truffle fries were epic!! I loved my drink. The place is a little hard to find if you're not from the area. I would come back again, maybe during an off, less busy time to sample their dishes. I'm sure the food and service will be better then.

Yelp
Celebrating a week before the actual mother's day on a Saturday night, the staff was very attentive on a not-so packed Saturday. The food was great and everyone in our party of 8 enjoyed their dishes. Julio was on point as our server and he created a comfortable and professional ambiance.

Yelp
Saw the reviews for Vita and was excited to try it with my husband for lunch. Unfortunately the entire experience was less than stellar. When we arrived, it seemed mostly empty outside of a few tables, but we waited almost 10 mins at the front with no host. Husband eventually went inside and asked for assistance. After we were seated, we did not recieve menus. About 10 minutes later someone came by the table to take drink orders and fill our water glasses. We requested menus and ordered. Husband got the Spicy Orz and I ordered the gilgi pesto pasta and we split a bruschetta appetizer. Ordered a Dr.Pepper and an Italian coastline for drinks as the water did not taste great. Unfortunately the food was pretty bland and unmemorable, definitely not worth the price. The Italian Coastline I order which noted rosé and strawberry flavors just tasted like water down rosé. Overall disappointing service as we constantly had to request someone to assist us, disappointing food, and just disappointing experience. Unsure if staff was new and just trying to get into the groove of things, but things definitely need improvement overall.

Yelp
We brought my in laws to Vita to celebrate their 58th Anniversary and had a really nice dinner outside on the patio. We were seated as soon as we arrived and our amazing waitress, Anna, took our cocktail order and gave us some recommendations for entrees. My Mezcal Old Fashioned was just right! I ordered the Vita Burger that had wagyu beef patty and a huge pile of shaved prime rib on top! It was moist and flavorful. My wife and in laws enjoyed their entrees as well. The service overall was very good and we plan on returning often.

Yelp
I came here from my friends birthday branch and it was my first time actually ever try this restaurant in hearing of it. It is kind of hard to find it looks like it's like located right next to a hotel but once you keep going around you will finding parking . It is actually on the first of them. I want to start off by saying that the restaurant is really huge and has a really nice ambience and good for family Parties and make celebrations. It's a huge spot and holds a lot of people. I don't eat a buffet, but this one was good because they had different types of stations where they make omelettes, fresh and pasta, which I thought was unique, because I never saw that at a brunch restaurant before where they make you pasta fresh. My omelette pasta was decent. I think the food was pretty good. I'll give it a seven out of 10. In the whole brunch, including bottom of the most, it was only $65 which is a very good price. The only thing that I did not like is that if you have a huge party, only could do up to three credit cards unless you order something at the bar or if you get a buffet with the regular price buffet then it will come separately the bill. Customer Service is good I felt like they were and they gave us extra time over for bottomless mimosas since some people in our party was late. I am not sure if I will come back here, but I do recommend. -Marshay

Yelp
Joseph was the dopest server. He was making sure everything was to our liking. He picked the best vino for my lady and her birthday meal with the fam. Ambiance was dope. Not too bright, not too dark. None of the elders except my mom needed a flashlight to read the menu because she forgot her glasses. My father in law said the veggie pizza was a 10 outta 10. Carbonara on point and was carbonara-ing. Lobster pasta had real lobster. Shrimp scampi had more garlic than a vampire would like, but for my mom, I guess she is not a vampire. Mama approved ;) I don't need to go to Italy for Italian food. Imma just hop on the 57 freeway in Pomona! TY Vita Italian and friends. Yee!

Yelp
Beautiful place with great views and decor inside! Italian rarely surprises me nowadays but this place was so good!!!! I tried the fettuccine alfredo and I added mushrooms and the sauce was super flavorful and truffley even though I expected it to just be a cream sauce. The pesto pasta was so good too with asparagus and tomato and some tang to it!! Very flavorful and it didn't feel like jsut oil like some other pesto sauces. Service was really nice and attentive ! If I was in the area I would definitely go back!

Yelp
Brunch June 22, 2025. Food not as good as the last two times I was here. No king crab or colossal shrimp, or oysters. Instead they had lobster cut in half which was good, the lobster claws were huge but meat in them were meh. Shrimp was large to jumbo, cooked and chilled perfect. They also had decent poke. Staff and wait staff were amazing and friendly, especially the one carving the prime rib. Oh, beef ribs were tender and tasty. We left satisfied, but it was better food before.

Yelp
So I decided to order take out from here. I came here 6 years ago a couple of times and enjoyed the meals, although in my personal opinion it is rather at a high price point for certain items such as the clam chowder and wagyu meat balls. The take out process is rather simple, you call ahead and they will notate your meal, name and number. They will inform you the estimated wait time and call earlier if it is available before the pick up time. Sometimes though, if they are busy, they will not pick up the call, so just try calling again in about 5-10mins. We ordered the following; Clam chowder - smaller than expected, tasted fine 4/5 Wagyu Meatballs - smaller than expected, tasted good 4.5/5 Margherita Pizza with Chicken - enjoyed the pizza, I wish the basil was whole leaves and not the sprinkled kind 5/5 Mushroom Pasta - more on the bland side of taste, but it is my preference. 4.5/5 The vibe in the restaurant when I did visit was always aesthetically pleasing and spacious. Will go again for sure in the future. Maybe for the next date with my hubby.

Yelp
Meal was disappointing. Ordered the meatballs and they came out with bread that was stale. The cIoppinno was nothing special, not much flavor although there was a good amount of seafood. The pizza we ordered was just ok as well. I wouldn't make another trip

Yelp
Never knew this existed. Was in search for a fun, new brunch spot to celebrate my husband's Grandma and came across Vita. The restaurant is attached to Doubletree Hotel in Pomona. Plenty of parking, including an underground garage. So even when the outside lot looks full, keep looking and you'll find something. Happy we found this AYCE and drink Sunday champagne brunch. Seafood was the star of the show. Literally piles of lobster, shrimp, crab, oysters. standard breakfast items. carving station, pasta station, omelette station. Everything was delicious. I had a great conversation with one of the chefs at the pasta station. He told me an amazing story of how becoming a patron of the restaurant turned into his career. I truly appreciate seeing a passion for one's profession, especially when it is service related. Staff was gracious enough to let us stay and enjoy some of the music that was playing from a private party on the outside patio. Hands down will find another occasion to come back to Vita!

Yelp
The food was delicious but the service is what really gave this place a solid 5 stars!! The service was Amazing and attentive. We had a group of 15 and she was a few steps ahead making sure we were taken care of. We had Silvia as our main server and Arely assisting. Loved the atmosphere as well.

Yelp
We went to try Vito for the first time and celebrated our 30 year anniversary. Food and drinks were very good. Anna our server was very attentive and in the end surprised us with a slice of cake and some mouse for our anniversary. Definitely going back again and try them for Happy Hour. The inside is very nice too and you have a nice view of the 57 fwy.

Yelp
IG/TT @waitfoodfirst Vita Italian Grill is located in the double tree hotel in Pomona. They have tons of free parking and The vibe is more lively than intimate and a great place to out for a fun dinner. They have tons of pizzas and tender steaks but my favorite items were the pastas. They are made in house and you can really tell. I loved the rich meaty flavor of the bolognese pappardelle and the noodles were cooked perfectly.

Yelp
Happy hour was very good. I did not like how tall the tables were; it made it difficult to hop on, esp for a short girl.

Yelp
I love the ambiance in this restaurant. For something just near the freeway, this is a little hidden gem. Prices are great and the food is always delicious. I'm

Yelp
The food and service was excellent here. We also came here on Mother's Day 2025! It was fabulous! Food came out quick. The only thing was air was on not working in the room with window view, but we were still pleased with everything! 10 out of 10!

Yelp
My husband, our dog, and I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Vita's Bar and Grill and our server, Armando, truly delivered the most exceptional service we've ever experienced. From the moment we arrived, he was warm, attentive, and professional, not only with us but also with our dog, which meant the world to us. We're used to receiving limited service when we bring our pup along, but Armando treated all three of us with such kindness and care. He anticipated our needs, made us feel incredibly welcome, and created an experience we won't forget. Thank you, Armando, for going above and beyond. Vita's is very lucky to have you.
