Amy’s Kitchen Hit With $25K Fine for More Safety Violations at Bay Area Production Facility | Eater SF

"Though its storefront has closed, Vital Vittles is undergoing a semi-resurrection by continuing wholesale operations; despite a change in ownership, the current owners decided to move forward using the original company's recipes, so Vital Vittles bread is still sold in local stores." - Dianne de Guzman

Google
I give this 3.5 stars. They are in a great location with great stuff in the store, and awesome hours (9:30AM-1AM). The line is never too bad or slow, and the people at the front are pretty nice. I do think that they could be a bit friendlier instead of just talking to each other. There doesn't really need to be two people behind the desk. My only complaints are that they often run out of stuff and don't restock for a while, and once they way overcharged me for the wrong products that I didn't buy. Also, the sandwiches could be a bit better. They're like mediocre cold cuts that have been in the fridge too long. However, it's so much better than the alternative of going to a convenience store in georgetown (vittles is right next to my dorm!) so I give it a 4 instead of a 3. Also, everything is super affordable.

Dear Google I think vital Vittles is quite good, perhaps the best grocery store I have ever entered. Cannot say enough good things about this place. Great cashiers, well stocked. A must see attraction in the Georgetown area

Google
Very efficient store run by the students. Neat and has a little bit of everything that you may be looking for.

Yelp
Vital Vittles is a student-run market. They have plenty of good sandwiches locally sourced from Booeymongers, Taylor, Broodjes & Bier as well as an awesome snack collection. My recommendation at least for the sandwiches get there early before the 12pm rush to get the best selection of sandwiches. This is a great little store that I go to at least once a week.

Yelp
I really really REALLY want to rate this place higher, because I love supporting the Corp businesses. The hours and location are great, and when you're a student it's a convenient place to grab groceries when you don't want to go all the way to Safeway. The trade off is that all of the items are pretty expensive. Also, I understand it's student run, but there are always so many students socializing at the registers that sometimes I stand there unable to tell if I'm standing in a line or just wading among a crowd.

Yelp
Placed square in Leavey on the Georgetown campus. Responds well to students' ideas. Has a great vibe, students' choices of music, has active and enthusiastic staff with different sayings for their tip jars. Wide selection of snacks and sometimes heated sandwiches, although it has exclusivity with Coca-Cola so there are no Pepsi products. Even during the summer schedule, you can drop in for $1 drink bottles or sandwiches from Booeymongers or bakery products from outside companies. The best part is that it's almost always open, providing a reliable place to go even really late at night or early in the morning. Supposedly has a very successful business model, being completely student-run.

Yelp
My wife has been in patient a number of times at Georgetown, didn't know this place existed and after walking the campus after her recent stay. I found VV. They have some good prices and nice selection of items including sandwiches.

Yelp
It's a campus convenience store, what do you expect? Your'e gonna pay extra for the convenience of not walking to Safeway. It's not going to cost you an arm and a leg if you only come here when you need something urgently. It's a $1 for a 500ml Coke and a few more for a tub of ice cream. Plan your visits, and you'll be fine. Vittles is A-OK in my book. For those non-Georgetown peeps who need to grab a drink, Vital Vittles is on the 3rd floor of the Leavy Center right next to the campus bookstore, credit union, and bridge entrance thing, and across from the career center place.

Yelp
Student run grocery store. Convenient but the make up their own prices and don't restock nearly enough.

Yelp
As a student at Georgetown, this place is convenient, but it's WAY overpriced. I don't understand why about 90% of the store doesn't have prices listed on their items. And while I know all students are struggling, I can't believe that Georgetown's Vital Vittles has TIP jars for cashiers at the front when most of what they do is just sit there and read magazines, or give an occassional grunt when they see that the lines are long. Listening to your iPod and just holding your hand out for my cash or card without even telling me the price (yes, this one cashier in particular just pointed to the price on the register) is not exactly my idea of good customer service or worthy of a tip. Give me a break.

Yelp
Shameless, this is what Vital Vittles...they are shameless. To put it in simple terms, a can of whip cream costed me $4.50. For most students on campus, the closest grocery store is whole foods which is a hike (and pricy) and so for those quick grocery needs, one must resort to this hole in the wall, so called student-friendly, overpriced five aisle grocery lane.

Yelp
Entirely student-run. They market themselves by saying they have the cheapest Coke on campus, which is true, but many of their other items are really overpriced, even more expensive than Whole Foods. They can do that bc it's not convenient for GU students to go to the nearest grocery stores (Safeway and Whole Foods). There is not a lot of produce here, just stuff that a typical college student would want (e.g. drink mixers, solo cups, pens and pencils, processed food, and convenience food). For some reason, they also discontinue some items, which I don't really understand.

Yelp
A pretty cool concept that's entirely student run. The Corp aka Students of Georgetown, Inc. is a non-profit student-run entity that owns/runs seven companies at Georgetown. Vital Vittles is one of these seven companies, and is a campus convenience store located in the Leavey Center on the Georgetown University Campus. Vital Vittles is a great campus option for purchasing everything from soda and fresh produce to cough medicine and school supplies. You can also buy pre-made sushi and sandwiches, including a ton of vegetarian and vegan options. The variety available within this tiny storefront is pretty incredible. Some items are a bargain (e.g. 20 oz bottle of soda -- $1.25 including tax) while some come at a higher price than you'd find at a supermarket or drugstore. For convenience though, it can't be beat. I am always impressed by the friendly and laid-back student workers at Vittles, who manage to be approachably professional every time I am in the store.

Yelp
Great to go to get snacks and sandwiches/subs. The only complaint is the prices for the sandwiches/subs.

Catherine M.

Yelp
Vital Vittles is an impressive operation. Run entirely by Georgetown students driven by the motto "Students Serving Students," it provides a crucial service to anyone who frequents the Leavey Center. And that includes not only Georgetown undergrads, but also med students, anyone who works at the hospital, and prospective students and their families. This is a border-line grocery store / convenience store. 2 years ago it would have been a convenience store no question. But they have added a wee produce section. Must say that it's very hit or miss -- if you're hellbent on having a salad that night, don't head to Vittles. But if you're lucky, they'll have some decent apples, raspberries, carrots, and even cucumbers and tomatoes. Its limited produce section aside, though, Vittles is a lifesaver. They sell everything from Ben and Jerry's icecream to Campbell's soup to yogurts to Booey's sandwiches to vegan sandwiches to ping pong balls... Also: they sell all 20 oz Coca Cola products (cold) for A DOLLAR. Cheapest around. No tax either because they're non-profit. Check it out, if for no other reason to see that students aren't always lazy wastes of space.

Yelp
Was always a bit suspicious of my Corp, but now they took $300 of my money and gave me nothing except a worthless gift card I can't use because apparently the new computer system that the Corp bought with all the money they lose can't handle my card. So, yeah, thx @thecorp
