The Best Restaurants in Montreal’s West Island | Eater Montreal

"This crowd-pleasing Pierrefonds haunt has something for everyone, with a largely Italian-leaning menu that pads plates of pasta and pizza with offerings like mussels à la Dijonnaise and fish and chips. A fantastic option for group events made even better by being BYOW." - Erinn Blicher

Google
Bring your own wine restaurant which is always nice. We had the sausage sub. The sausage is made in house which is great, but it was on the dry side. The bread and fries were over cooked unfortunately. The pizza we ordered was better. The ingredients were fresh and generously topped. The service was great! The waiter was young and was on point.

We went to Vivaldi with the family (as we’ve done before) and finally remembered to leave a review. Even on a Tuesday night, the dining room was buzzing with groups of all sizes. While the chatter makes it moderately noisy, the space still feels charming and warm—great for a relaxed night out. The food was very good across the board; our different entrées were satisfying, and my veal Marsala was an enjoyable dish. Being a bring‑your‑own‑wine spot keeps the overall cost reasonable, which we appreciate. The service was friendly, warm, and personable, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. While dine‑in is lovely, we often do takeout from Vivaldi and swear by the Italian sausage submarine sandwiches and the fried zucchini appetiser—honestly, some of the best bites in the West Island. Consistent quality, friendly vibe, and solid value. We’ll be back.

Google
Not worth the hype to be honest. The food is average and overpriced for the quality. It’s all very “meh”. They are better Italian restaurants. I believe the people who loved their experience got more expensive dishes (we took the more cheaper ones) but I think an amazing five star restaurant should at least be able to make a tasty simple spaghettini bolognese.

Google
Dined at Vivaldi New Years Eve and it was perfect. Minnestrone soup was tasty, the mussels marinara was plentiful. The veal marsala was tasty and fresh and the grilled salmon was seared and seasoned perfectly. Service was attentive without feeling rushed.

Google
Absolutely wonderful experience! We travelled from out of Province and made a days long detour to have dinner at Vivaldi and our expectations were exceeded! From the ambiance to the service and the food it was all exceptional! The hilight was meeting Chef Steve!

Google
Food was good, but really nothing to bring home. For examples on the pasta, they use Parmesan cheese instead of Parmesiano, which just doesn't taste the same Portion wise is pretty good, big enough for one person but might be lacking if you're hungry Taste wise it could be better, it's lacking a certain freshness in most of its ingredients. Pasta is overcooked Service wasn't very good we waiting a long time and as it turns out our server was late so there weren't anybody to take our orders Bring your own wine big plus

I went to Vivaldi last month for my birthday with my family, all the way from New Jersey. My expectations were high, and they were blown away. The food, service, everything was exceptional. Our waitress Jade was very friendly and attentive. The Gnocchi de la casa was spicy and smooth, Chicken de la casa was bursting with flavor, and the Chicken tetrazini was amazing. The fried zucchini appetizer was crisp and delicious, and the sauce was great. The creme Brulee was the best I have ever had. The texture was fluffy and smooth, and the sweetness was just right. Chef Steve even stopped by our table to say hi! If you like Vivaldi's YouTube videos and are curious, make the trip! You will have amazing food and exceptional service. This was a birthday I will never forget, and I hope to be back soon!

Google
I was attending a birthday dinner. I had a very terrible experience at Vivaldi. It that started with the waitress Jade pouring water all over a gift I brought (a book) and it ended with the waitress giving me the wrong bill and over charged me! The dinner in all took 3 HOURS. It was grilling. The food took so long I was so hungry I didn’t bother sending the sub back because I knew if they offered something else I would wait another 30-45mins Then comes issues with my bill was which was 95$ but should have been 82$ and I was told to ‘come to the front to pay’ (I thought it odd but went along with it cause I need to get out of there) my order was -fried squit -appetizer mussels -Vivaldi sub -tortellini la contessa Totaling 82$ What I was billed: Gnocchi Grilled squit Grilled shrimp Coffee Totaling 95$ I NEVER writes these kind of reviews. I would go the restaurant directly but they are closed Sunday and Monday, and only operate for dinner. Please someone reach out.

Yelp
Vivaldi on Saturday night out diner with friends. Located I a little strip mall on the West Island. The staff were really friendly. The prices for good Italian were very reasonable. We started off with hot rolls and salads. We ordered pasta, veal and chicken Marsala. Everything was hit and delicious. The waiter was in spot. The overall meal was excellent. Vivaldi's is a great restaurant and reasonably affordable. We will be back.

Yelp

Yelp
Great food. A staple in the West Island. It's a Bring your own wine so you can have a great meal with your wine and not be stuck with a huge bill.

Yelp
Rarely do I give a 5 star review based more on the service than the food but This is an excellent place to come with a big group! Christian was our waiter and was awesome to our group of 20 people (including ages 13-81) for a family member's birthday. Service was smooth from start to finish and all meals came out at the same time and were all as ordered. I was super impressed by this. We ordered a variety of meals and everyone seemed to enjoy what they ordered. I had the shrimp aglio e olio with a pasta on the side. It was super tasty. Extra perk about this place is that you can bring your own wine! Another huge plus. Definitely would come back with a group for family events.

Yelp
We have gone to this restaurant a number of times and have found it just outstanding. The pizza's we find to be the best around. I personally get the Italian Sausage Sub which is 5 stars. We have also had the penne Romanoff which was also great. The service has always been great. The owners are always there making sure that everyone leaves satisfied. Just a great, top notch restaurant. Congrats to the owners for keeping this quality for many years.

Yelp
Food was amazing and service was even better, portions were also well sized! Would definitely go again and a great recommendation!

Yelp
Love that Vivaldi always makes a delicious cheese free pizza for this lactose intolerant guy. Absolutely fantastic service, people and not to mention the food.

Yelp
You would never think walking in that the food is overly amazing, but looks are deceiving. This place is phenomenal. The grilled Mediterranean salad is mouth watering delish. I sometimes have that as my meal. I also love the chicken de crema (I think is what it's called) with sundries tomato's. Great now I'm craving it!!!! I've been a million times and will continue to go!!!

Yelp
I would give 3 stars and a half because the food was really good. We had the grilled octopus and fried calamari for entree and the octopus was delicious. We had the chicken tagliatelle and meat tortellini which were also delicious. Tiramisu and chocolate cake- i would have skipped. The service was good but it was freeeeezing the whole time which is something I definitely hated.

Yelp
I don't know what I can say here that hasn't already been said. This is a great little restaurant, with chefs that are passionate about the food that they make and attentive wait staff. It's one of the shining stars of Pierrefonds. On one of the only occasions that we ordered takeout from the restaurant (instead of dining in), we ordered a pasta and a dijonnaise dish. The chefs were so concerned that the quality of food would degrade on the drive home that they wouldn't prepare the packages until we were standing in the restaurant. They built a box with insulation to keep the food hot, layered each item in with extra protection (and insulation), and insisted that we drive straight home (we live minutes away). When we got the food home, it was just as fresh and delicious as it is when we dine in. As an FYI, this is a BYOW restaurant, meaning "Bring Your Own Wine." People in Montréal understand the concept, but when you are from another city (like us), this is new and will catch you off guard... especially if you order a meal and expect a wine pairing.

Yelp
I really like this restaurant... for the west island. In town it's nothing special. But thank god someone has opened a proper byow in this area. It's my official go to place when my dad wants to eat dinner now. The pizzas are great and I've enjoyed the various pasta dishes I've tried. Word to the wise... This place is actually busy so RSVP.
google avatar

Tricia A.

Yelp
Food is amazing, specially the fried zucchini and calamari!! I love that its BYOW and the food is fairly priced. The place gets packed so make sure you make a reservation.

Yelp
Food and service is super good. Hostess blamed us and was upset we had two people cancel on our reservation at the last minute... wasn't the classiest. But thankfully our waitress was amazing.

Russell P.

Yelp
We were there for a party, with 24 people. We had one server for the entire gang, and WOW, did TAMMY ever do a great job. Excellent service, excellent food. Made the evening truly enjoyable
google avatar

Yelp
Great BYOB. Dim lighting and good service. Always satisfied when we leave. A bit out of the way but a top 3 contender for BYOBs. Do it.
google avatar

Sabrina N.

Yelp
I really liked this place. The service is super friendly. The food is actually really tasty! I don't expect much every time I go because I always think "how good can the Italian food be at a resto in the west island that I've never heard of that might be a chain". You know, I'm glad I'm wrong. My only suggestion would be to get the pizza. Forget the pasta. The pizza is MUCH better than the pasta. And don't forget the calamari!
google avatar

K Z.

Yelp
Food was ok, prices are reasonable however my family and I froze in the restaurant. Ask repeatedly to raise the temperature, they completely disregarded our requests. They don't seem to understand that eating a meal at 17 degrees Celsius is not a pleasant experience.

Yelp
I have been to this place several times and it never disappoints. A good neighbourhood BYOW - the service is friendly and efficient. The food is good - nothing spectacular but reliable. I started with a green salad and then the grilled salmon (overcooked) served with a choice of rice, pasta, potatoes or veg, I chose pasta in tomato sauce which was well cooked (al dente) and good. Since I had the table d'hote it came with coffee and I also had choice of dessert. I chose chocolate grand mariner cheesecake, which I gave away - but judging by the way it was decimated I'd say it was a hit. Dinner & Tip was $48ish Note to restos - why do you all overcook the fish? You all ask people how they like their meat - you should do the same for fish s.v.p.

Yelp
Vivaldi is a bit in the middle of nowhere but definitely stands out as one of the better restaurants in the area - or in the West-Island. Right off of Gouin blvd between St. John's and Des Sources. It's a decently sized restaurant with high ceilings and a comforting atmosphere and decor. It can get a little loud, it's always busy! That being said, make sure you make reservations in advance or be prepared to wait (maybe polish off a bottle while waiting for a table??). You can also watch the chefs do their thing as the kitchen is customer facing. I always like being able to see where my food is coming from. The food is very delicious, as good as you'll find in the West-Island (hence the 5* rating) and would put up a good fight against some city Italian joints. Your typical Italian cuisine; veal, chicken, pizza, pasta, seafood. My suggestions: Antipasti: Bruschetta with goat cheese, fried squid, tomato & bocconcini, fried zucchinis, or grilled sausage. Main: Veal scallopini with lemon, marsala, or dijonnaise. Mussels (dijonnaise or marinara). Tortellini la contessa, oven baked pastas are pretty good for a restaurant (will never be like Nonna's but most places I don't like them at all). Their Penne arrabiata is good also as a side dish with your main instead of veggies or spaghetti. Their thin-crust pizzas are great as well, I like Numero Uno but there are plenty to choose from so take your pick! Desserts: Not a big dessert guy so you're on your own for that one! I've been here several times and the service has always been on the money. Friendly, prompt, and always around if you need anything. The owners are quite involved as well, you can see them clearing tables and socializing with their guests. Never had any issues with the service here. BYOW - I love bring your own wine restos, why pay a premium for something I know I can get cheaper elsewhere - and that I will like? Major points for this (although I wouldn't care if it wasn't, just a bonus!). It's also another reason why it can get loud :) If you're looking for a place in the West for larger groups, Vivaldi is a fantastic place for groups (birthdays, anniversaries, parties, etc.) and doesn't break the bank! If you're in the West-Island, Vivaldi should definitely be on your list of places to check out. http://www.totalmtl.com/food/vivaldis/

Yelp
Very nice service, very accommodating restaurant and good prices. I had a mixed salad nicely prepared not drowning in heavy dressing. Main course I had the Mussel appetizer and it was delicious, with lots of garlic. I would definitely recommend this place. :-)

Yelp
To have a restaurant this good in the West Island is a rarity. The prices are quite good, and it's a BYOB. I would prefer it not be, but I don't hold that against a resto one way or the other. Food choice is extensive without going overboard. Every time I go, I try to order something different, and that is often difficult because I've liked something previously so much. Reservations are important unless you're willing to eat early. Parking is ample; there's even an IGA nest door if you're caught without wine. My only drawbacks are that it gets noisy due to its architecture (I presume), and that while much of the wait staff is excellent, a few seem too caught up in themselves. All in all, this is a restaurant that you absolutely should visit once, and make up your own mind. In my opinion, it is none of the better choices available.

Adam H.

Yelp
Decided to have dinner here when looking for a byob in the west island. This place is a bit far out if you are not from the area. The ambience is nice and the resto seems very well kept. The service here is great, our waitress was attentive and the hostess was very welcoming as soon as you walk in. I started with the eggplant parmesan which was average, covered in cheese and sauce, you almost wouldn't know there was eggplant with your cheese. For main i ordered the chicken tagliatelle. The pasta was perfectly el dente but i would have like more flavour out of the chicken. When seeking to liven up the dish i did discover they have a very good chilli oil for those who like to add a bit if spice to their pasta. Overall a nice byob place with a vibrant ambience.

Yelp
Great food, wish their portions were a bit bigger. A tad overpriced but it's bring your own wine.

Yelp
Want Italian in the West Island...go here! Great food and desert. BYOB mean save some $$$ Food **** Service *** could have been better Price $$$ Would go back!

Sylvain L.

Yelp
Good food, good service, they makes us feel welcome every time we go. Good variety of pizzas and Italian dishes. Good ambiance, although could be a little noisy. Bring your own wine, helps keep the price in check as this restaurant is not cheap. Worth the visit.

Yelp
Did a return visit before writing up a review just to make sure I was experiencing the real thing. And I remain quite impressed! A great variety of Italian staples, tried pizza and pasta puttanesca, both superior, and my wife who loves veal scallopine tried limone and Napolitan, and loved both! Very reasonably priced, about 25 to 30 per, all in. And loved the BYOB. Will be making Vivaldi a regular haunt. See you there!!

Yelp

Melissa M.

Yelp
Went with a large group and ended up not having enough room at the tables, even though they were fully booked for the night they quickly found us another table! The service was exceptional, very attentive and friendly staff. The food was great and arrived quickly despite being a large group. Zucchini chips are to die for! Would recommend this place to anyone!
