The 16 Best Restaurants in Mountain View - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The next time you’re fantasizing about calling in sick to work and impulsively booking tickets to Mexico, head to Vive Sol instead, where the decor and vibe will make you feel like you’re on vacation, even if only for the length of your meal. Here, you’ll find modern Pueblan dishes—a fusion of foods of the indigenous people of Puebla, Mexico and the French “haut cuisine” that influenced it during France’s occupation. The burritos, quesadillas, and enchiladas—our favorite is the enchiladas de mole that’s bathed in a richly spiced, cocoa-enhanced sauce—are worth your time and money, along with dishes where the French accent is a little more pronounced, like the excellent champinoñes con chile seco—mushrooms sautéed in a creamy Burgundy sauce and served with chiles and bay shrimp." - gabi moskowitz

Very ordinary experience. Good came fast but that's about it. The chips had no salt. Chipotle chips are so much better. The salsa was spicy. Not flavorful. The veggie tacos were expensive and not tasty at all. Most forgetful experience. The food truck nearby has so much better tacos

Google
The food didn't seem as fresh as previous visits. The refried beans were hard going for everyone and the dish could have been warmer. Still tasty though and I love the corn chips and three dips that are always served. They only take reservations on slow days like Wed, Thur, Sunday but they don't take reservations when closed and it was impossible to hear what was being said on the phone and I had to repeat myself 5 times. The restaurant itself was also really noisy. Sit outside if you can. Service is always prompt and the margaritas are still great.

Top notch food, great service and delightful atmosphere. Portions were large, the guacamole was super fresh, and the ambience was very enjoyable.

I used to go Vive Sol a lot when I worked in Lost Altos, so I pleased to see they were still open. We had dinner here for my boss’ birthday recently and they were very accommodating. Our server was very nice and patient (it’s got to be tough with a large party), he managed us very well 😆. The food is good; delicious, well portioned, and uncomplicated. Not a lot of flare, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The decor of the restaurant is lovely, however it’s so loud. Couldn’t hear anything said at the other end of the table. What can be expected from a packed restaurant? Yet, being so busy, our food came out in a timely manner. A great time was had by all.

Google
WOW this place is so cute and from the cocktails to dessert this place is fantastic. Hubby and I went here ladt night for the first time and we were able to sit out front on the little patio. They give you chips and three salsas to start you off. We each choice a margarita and they didn’t disappoint. Hubby had enchiladas de mole and I had chile relleno & tostada combo plate. First the mole was so smooth and had wonderful flavors my plate was very good and the sauce on the chile rellono was a little spicy but flavorful. We finished with chocolate cake made in house because they ran out of flan. *tip come early if your going on a weekend because it’s a small cozy beautiful place and it get very busy. If you live Mexican food this is a must try.

Good Mexican food. Varieties of Margaritas for drinks. The food and drinks are served fast so a great place when you want to do a quick dinner.

Google
One of the best Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area. Excellent taste, really good ambiance and top class service. The quesadilla was amazing and so was the margarita! Bistec ranchero is a must try! However, this place is definitely on the pricier side compared to other similar type restaurants.

Yelp
I went on a date to Vive Sol tonight and it was great! The inside is very cute and great for a date night. They have a large menu with many delicious menu items, including lots of varieties of enchiladas and burritos. We started with the chips, salsa, and guacamole which were all very tasty. The guacamole was a little bland for my liking, but still very fresh. I had the combination plate with the quesadilla and the guajillo enchilada, and my date has the combination with guajillo enchilada and chile relleno. We both enjoyed our food. I probably wouldn't get the quesadilla again though just because it was just a small tortilla with cheese, without seasoning or meat. Our waiter came by often to refill our drinks and check on us, and everyone who worked there was very nice! They have parking in both the front and back of the restaurant. I'll definitely return for another meal at Vive Sol!

Yelp
Delicious food and fast service, but the acoustics inside the restaurant make dining here a challenge for me. I come here every once in a while with friends, and while the food, the guac, chips, and salsa, are fresh and tasty, the white noise chamber chitter-chatter creates is painful for my ears. I've been to other restaurants in the area where the space was equipped with sound dampeners on the ceiling. While I noticed some dampeners at Vive Sol, they appear inadequate and not suited for the space. I'd strongly recommend that the management take a bolder step in this direction. It would elevate an already great restaurant to an exceptional one.

Yelp
Enchiladas Camerones - 3 Stars Sangria White - 1 Stars Great service. Restaurant is good size but even with the doors and windows open there is no air flow and no AC.

Yelp
One of my husband's favourite spots. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes. The staff is always very helpful with making suggestions. Don't sleep on their margaritas - they are really really good!

Yelp
This restaurant has been around forever but we've never had a chance to try it. My fiancé wanted Mexican so came here tonight to give it a try. We started with the guacamole and they brought 3 salsas. My fiancé likes all the salsas, a bit spicy. I thought they were a bit vinegary . Guacamole is a generous portion with chopped tomatos on top. Very good consistency but I thought could use a pinch of salt. I ordered the combo plate of chili relleno and beef tostada. Chlli relleno cake with a very tasty sauce. Tostada was good with q slice of tender beef. My fiancé ordered beef enchilada al chipotle and loved it! He said the sauce was unique -- smoky, spicy , and very tasty. It's a bit pricey for Mexican food but it was very good. Wait staff was also very friendly. I can see why this place is so popular.

Arushi K.

Yelp
Best skinny margaritas I've ever had. I get the fish tacos with the salsa on the side - it's a bit too cheesy for my taste. Service is fine
google avatar

Ali G.

Yelp
Chips and salasa were the best part of the night. Guac was under seasoned. Entrees were overly salty. I got the shrimp enchiladas which were just not good. They were smothered in a creamy sauce that was overpowering and didn't work with the rest of the dish. Dinner for two was almost 100 bucks (2 entrees, 1 drink, 1 order of guac). Horribly expensive for the poor quality.

Yelp
Whenever I come and visit my family in Mountain View, I always request this place. My family introduced me to mole about 10 years ago when I first visited them in California. Now, this is what I will only order when I get Mexican: Mole poblano. The restaurant is family friendly with home cooked Mexican meals. It is always very packed so it's always best to book reservations in advance. Will always come back here to satisfy my mole cravings!
google avatar

Yelp
EVERYTHING Was bland - zero flavor. The guacamole did not have salt or lime. The fish tacos were just terrible. The rice had no flavor. I ordered champagne - mumm and it was old. The totally bill was $210 for 4 adults, 1 child. I swear Yelp is your best search engine and terrible at the same time, because I don't know how they have 4 stars. The ambience is nice.

Yelp
I visited Vive Sol on Cinco de Mayo, expecting it to be extremely busy, but was pleasantly surprised to be seated quickly and served food in no time! They greeted us with chips (which tasted slightly stale), but the variety of salsas made up for it. Their smoky medium red salsa was my favorite among the three spice levels. For my main dish, I ordered the Aztec tortilla soup which was massive in size and packed with delicious flavors - the crunchy tortillas, gooey cheese, and savory tomato broth were the perfect combination. Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly, making the dining experience even better. I did find the margarita to be a bit strong and expensive, but overall, I had a great time. I'm definitely planning on coming back, perhaps at a less busy time.

Yelp
The food was very mid. This is great for anyone who's never had authentic Mexican food. Tequila section was okay at best. The servers were decent but very inconsistent. The food was very mediocre , one could tell it had been sitting all day. Premade food , or food that was sitting under a heat lamp all day.
google avatar

Omer A.

Yelp
Great appetizers, margaritas, and mole. I'm planning on going again and again. Each dish was fully flavored and different.

Yelp
Amazing service! Super nice, friendly staff, the vibe was the food is good eat here! I stopped in and grabbed a Rita then was noticing all the cleared/cleaned plated around me and how good it smelled. One sip of my margarita and legit I'm sold, I'll be back tomorrow. My friend had ceviche, other friend had Diablo shrimpies, other friend had a quesadilla and I had a combo enchilada. Highly recommend food was delicious! Chips and salsa was really fire.

Yelp
Vegetarian/vegan reviewer: Came here alone on a day when I thought my world was falling apart. I am glad I did coz at least the food made me think otherwise. Lol. Jokes apart - I really liked what I'd ordered(pictured) - Enfrijodalas and can't wait to go try their burrito. The chips were perfect with 3 different salsas too(my favorite is the green salsa). I am glad I finally tried this restaurant. The service is pretty good too - they neatly boxed the left over for me coz no way can one person finish the entire dish by themselves with the chips. Go try it and trust me you won't get disappointed. Also, the ambience is pretty nice - cozy and warm- they do have some outside seating as well - which might be great when it's dark(you'll know what I mean if you go there)

Yelp
Pathetic food , rude staff . To begin with my daughter I went to the restroom before being seated . So my husband was waiting to be seated. They were not ready to let my husband sit at table as we were in the restroom . So Many requests , but the lady didn't budge . Ok once we seated . We ordered burritos , enchiladas and chalupa. The chalupa literally stuck to the plate . It felt ewww to eat them. The rice is the burrito so dry . Must be yesterday's , the enchilada had such a sweet sauce on it . It was so bad . We basically didn't eat more than 2 bites . Never coming here , not worth it , such rude people around ! There are so many good Mexican restaurants at San Jose .
google avatar

Basil N.

Yelp
The good: Variety, price, and size of margaritas Food portion size The bad: They basically add an unreasonable amount of cream to many of their dishes making them mild and bland. The food price is also crazy. I don't mind paying top dollar for Mexican food, but it needs to be good. This wasn't.

Yelp
Went to vive sol with the boy and a few friends about a week ago after hearing about their awesome food and so glad I did! This place is located in Mountain View and we got in there on a Thursday night. They have parking spots but it's a little tight so street parking is also a good option also. Thankfully once we got there we were seated pretty fast given we were a large group of about 10. I ended up ordering: *mango margarita - this was yummy and fruity and had the mango flavor which I really liked. The glass was pretty big which was nice * guajillo enchiladas - this was really delicious and the sauce was very flavorful and creamy which I loved. The sides were rice and beans which were also super delicious. *enchiladas del sol - boy for this which came with the guajillo enchilada and the mole one and he loved both as well! Overall this is a good spot for enchiladas since they specialize them and I thoroughly enjoyed!
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
I ate here today. The Pollo Guajillo was very good. The chips were very average, and the salsa was average. The entree sides were rice (above average) and beans (average). The service was polite but slow. Overall, I recommend it as it's a pretty good value for the food, and the food such as the Pollo Guajillo is good.

Kathy P.

Yelp
Always love coming here...delicious enchiladas with mole. Always get a pitcher of their classic margaritas! A favorite to visit when family is visiting.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food and drinks! This is lowkey now one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Mountain View! I'm obsessed with their spicy salsa and chips and their margaritas are fantastic. If you like lychee, go for the X-rated, it was by far my favorite. For food, the veggie burrito is gigantic so I definitely recommend sharing or taking it to go if it's not coated in sauce. The enchiladas were also amazing. The mole sauce was so rich and Smokey and the guajillo sauce reminded me of an Indian curry. I'd go back for those enchiladas, especially the veggie spinach and cheese one.
google avatar

Sakthi S.

Yelp
We got takeout and it was amazing! Placed the order over the phone and everything was ready as expected on time. Great experience! Indoors looked really cute when we went in too. Everything was incredibly flavorful and the grandma sauce wet burrito was amazing!! Definitely our go-to Mexican restaurant.

David B.

Yelp
The only complaint about this place is that it is in a parking lot right off of noisy El Camino. Once you walk in, though, all of that disappears. Only one word for the food- "Delicious!" Everything was SO flavorful. I reluctantly say, "If you're looking for a hidden gem, then you MUST try this place!!"
google avatar

Yelp
I have been going to Vive Sol for many years. Love it. I have a standard order that I order - the vegetarian enchiladas that are made with spinach and cheese with one enchilada with mole sauce and the other being with their delicious Chipotle sauce. This is the only Mexican restaurant that I know of that has a mole sauce that I can eat as a vegetarian and it is so so yummy. I crave it at times. I love the interplay of sweet and spicy between the two sauces. The plate comes with beans and rice and if you don't want rice substitute it with a side salad. Love it. Have you ever seen everyone's plate completely empty after having dinner. You will here. It is so good you can't help but eat it all. Service is prompt. Chips and 3 diff types of salsas are served in the beginning for free. Totally love this. They have a lovely crème brûlée for dessert. If you don't eat eggs, this is not for you. But if you do, must try this. I have brought lots of guests here and everyone has loved it. Enjoy.

Yelp
TEQUILA TASTING !! We came and discovered that this place offers tequila flights one of the few places in the Peninsula that does. We like trying more genuine tequila not so generic, we were happy to find out this place offers this option, the margaritas are top quality the fresh taste of real lime juice & good tequila makes it the best. The food was amazing I had the camarones al cilantro, and it was delish!! Jorge and the staff are very welcoming and give very good suggestions. The esthetic of the place is so cute inside ans the have a nice outdoor sitting area, perfect for a date or celebration. We will surely be back defiently recommend defiently a hidden gem MUST TRY
google avatar

Vivek K.

Yelp
Tried the Guajillo and the Nuevas sauces this time and they were interesting as well. I felt like trying two creamy sauces this time again but it was definitely overpowering, so next time I might try one of each or two non creamy salsas. The Nuevas sauce is like a creamy chipotle sauce, but Guajillo might be better even though it is a bit too creamy as well.
google avatar

Yelp
We started coming here in 2018 and always order Sopa Azteca, so this review is simply for that. It's excellent, feeling sick, get the azteca, feeling well, get the azteca, feeling fun and spontaneous, get the azteca...you get the idea. It's warm, nutritious with it's chicken pieces, cheese, tortillas and some veggies with their soul warming broth. It's like a hug. I heard the margaritas here are good, so def want to try those out next time. Love how they expanded to outdoors and added cute lights and heat lamps- it's a great place to come with a group.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a pretty good Mexican restaurant. I personally think the best Mexican food is coming out of taco trucks and holes in the wall, but occasionally you do want a nicer experience. This restaurant is set in a standalone building that looks like a little home. It's very cute and nicely decorated. We were promptly seated without reservations on a weeknight. The service was very attentive, to the point where we were asked a couple times if we were done with plates that we were still working on. They were really itching to clear the table! We ordered the guacamole to start, and I got the enfrijoladas with husband getting the enchiladas with red sauce. Both were easily made vegan. We also ordered a side of rice since the vegan dishes did not come with it. The guacamole was...fine. There was a tinned quality to it that made me wonder if it wasn't completely fresh (canned lime juice? frozen avocados?). I was happy to try the enfrijoladas since it was a new-to-me dish. The beans were spiced nicely and gave the dish such a heartiness, especially great for a cold evening. The avocados on top also tasted off like they could have been previously frozen. Husband loved his enchiladas and I enjoyed the bite I stole too. I'd recommend coming for the ambiance but not expecting a mind blowing meal.
google avatar

Anuk B.

Yelp
This is one of my new favorite Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area. We got seated in their cute outdoor patio and served chips with lots of salsa options. The salsa had a good amount of spice. I got the Burrito Guajillo and it had such a unique sauce which was so flavorful and had the perfect amount of spice as well. Portion was huge as well. I definitely will be coming back!
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
Classic Mexican. Love the ambiance, service was good, good variety of vegetarian options - made me happy! They have plenty of indoor as well as outdoor seating. Food was good: 4/5. Not the best I have had but still good. Portion size: 5/5. Pretty good. My husband I could only finish an appetizer and about 3/4 of an entree (enchiladas). Value for money: 4.5/5. Average. Worth the overall experience. Service: 3.5/5. Service was friendly but extremely slow. I asked for raw onions on the side for a little bit of a crunch to my enchiladas and it came after I had almost finished eating. They also wanted to charge me for it which was sorted but a little ridiculous...given I didn't even take the onions. Love the dipping sauces that came with the tortilla chips...mild, medium and hot. Overall experience was pretty good and we are looking forward to revisiting for sure! Thanks!

Yelp
Amazing food for steep prices with meh service. Our hostess on a Friday night was less than kind but we almost forgot about it thanks to the tasty food! I got the enchiladas vegetarianas with one chipotle and one guajillo while my boyfriend got and loved the chicken guajillo. We enjoyed our drinks as well--I got the peach sangria while he got a margarita. Coming from southern California, I really miss good Mexican food so I'll probably brave a rude hostess experience for it again!

Andrew H.

Yelp
Always enjoy great food , ambience and delicious margaritas at this fine MX restaurant tucked away off street in Mountain View. Friendly, efficient wait staff compliment and excellent menu of standards a regional Mexican food. Particular favorites are the Camarones Al Chipotle and the enchiladas. The Mole here is wonderful. A nice touch on the "hors D'oevres" is three different salsas to enjoy with the chips. It can get a little noisy at times ( because it's busy!) but overall the ambience is stylish and comfortable. Disfrutas!
google avatar

Karishma K.

Yelp
I've come here twice without reservation and have had to wait for a little bit but food is good. I recommend getting a ressie so you don't have to wait because this place gets poppin on the weekends! I've come here in the evenings and the outdoor seating in super cute. Both times, I've ordered the enchiladas al guajillo. I get one with chicken and one with cheese. The issue with the chicken one is the meat is a little on the drier side. I loved the cheese one and the guajillo sauce is super creamy. I love that they give chips and salsa as an appetizer! Parking is also a lot in the back that has enough parking spots. Highly recommend :)
google avatar

Shru M.

Yelp
This place is severely underrated for the high quality food and drinks they serve! We stopped by on a Friday night and were able to get a table in the outside patio! They have done up this section really well during the pandemic and I recommend sitting outside over the indoor sitting. Their drinks are very well made, we ordered the X rated and the Spicy margarita. Highly recommend both these options. We also ordered the Pollo Guajillo, and the vegetarian enchiladas El Sol. They do both the Guajillo and the mole sauces so so well, I was very impressed with the flavors. The Mole had a good Smokey spicy kick and was not overly sweet like some other places make it. The complimentary chips and salsa are also pretty great, good mild, medium and spicy salsa options in a variety of green tomatillo, eggplant and chilli options.

Screech S.

Yelp
loved the margaritas and food the service was good but slightly challenged by impatient waiter quick to action order rather than taking time to understand and getting it right would like to go back sometime
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
I haven't been back since the beginning of the pandemic and it's still so good! I was very hungry and wrapped up in conversation that I forgot to take pictures of everything! Doh! My must haves: * Enchiladas Al Guajillo (the hack: order one chicken, one cheese for your filling) I literally did not know you could split the choice of filling per enchilada until yesterday *mindblown* * Complimentary chips and salsa were delicious. The verde salsa was my favorite! * Order any Margarita. You won't regret it. Parking lot is a bit on the smaller side, but there are spaces available at the front and back of the restaurant. In addition to street parking.

Yelp
I found this place overrated. Tacos were good but the enchiladas are just ok. Nice ambiance though

Yelp
Food: 4 Customer Service: 4 Ambience: 5 Location/ Parking: 5 Cleanliness: 5 Reservations: N/A This restaurant is situated in the heart of Mountain View, CA and conveniently located on W El Camino Real. This Mexican restaurant has their own parking lot, so there is no issues with parking. My hubby and I decided to enjoy this restaurant recently, based on their Google reviews and while we was visiting the local area. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouthwatering starters and main courses that will appeal to everyone. Everything came out very fast and hot and was well seasoned. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. The chefs use the best quality ingredients to produce dishes that are simply delightful. I'm giving this restaurant a 4 rating mainly because of their customer service was slow, and the food itself was just typical Mexican food that was overpriced. I'm pretty confident that we wouldn't return for another visit and tried them again.

Nitin P.

Yelp
Having lived in Austin and San Diego this place is not comparable to a decent place there as their price is high compared to the taste and flavor of the food. The staff is professional and attentive The ambience is nice
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
This place was wonderful! The service was incredibly thoughtful, when we arrived there was a 15-20 minute wait and the host offered us the "VIP" table in the front. We declined, since the garden in the back was so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing that we thought we'd wait the few extra minutes. This place really did outdoor dining well! The food -- Very large portions, especially the chicken tortilla soup and the guacamole! We also tried the chicken quesadillas which were delicious and not too greasy Overall, a great spot to check out if you're in town!

Colin H.

Yelp
Place used to be good. Now it's overpriced food. They also charge you for additional baskets of chips. $7 for chips is crazy!
google avatar

Carla L.

Yelp
Exceptional food and serviced. I come here at least twice a year and it never fails. The food is very unique and I keep tasting different dishes each time because the menu is that interesting This time I had the tampiqueña beef which came with mole sauce. My only negative comment is that the beef could be more tender. It's not cheap. The patio is beautiful and the music always caters to the great environment.
google avatar

LeeLee C.

Yelp
Covid review Love the meal! Parking is a bit limited consider their capacity, so we were lucky to score the last spot and the last table in the backyard surrounded by a sea of flowers. Very nice ambiance. We ordered from their specialty mainly and they were all delicious! The carne is very flavorful, even the grilled green onions are juicy and totally edible like vegetables and not a garnishment. The Rajas Poblanos is very creamy. I just love the Mexican rice. The fish taco has good cut of fish and gorgeous portions. We had a very nice experience!
google avatar

Namrata G.

Yelp
Their free chips and three varieties of salsa are 10/10. We tried the enchiladas de mole, enchiladas Al guajillo, mole poblano and pollo guajillo. All the dishes were very traditional but they lack flavors. The flan was exceptionally good.
google avatar

Bill G.

Yelp
Fish tacos: some of the best that I have ever had. On the pricier side, but the fish tastes fresh and the overall preparation shows a lot of care. Chorizo burrito: our least favorite dish--it has a heavy tomato sauce that almost tastes like Italian red sauce. Tortilla soup: excellent and interesting variety with a hint of lime that complements the cheese well. Enchiladas: one of their better-known entrees. These were excellent, and the sauce pairings were really good.
google avatar

Jaclyn L.

Yelp
The server was great. He brought us out a variety of sauces to taste before we put them on our burrito. The food was delicious, I especially liked the sauce and the beans. It was pretty expensive, though.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good food, and drinks! Service is always great, they're super friendly! The vibe is nice and casual, you could have a quick dinner or a small bday dinner and drinks ! Only thing is it's very pricey!

Yelp
Good food and ambience Service also good The first time I went food was really good The second time not so It's a hit or miss

Yelp
Man those chips are addictive. Especially with all the different sauces they give you. 4 to be exact of varying spice levels. The good thing is that even if you are a spice wimp, none are mouth numbing and you can kind of control how much you sample on your chip anyways. We were brought here by one of our friends who highly recommended getting something with the guajillo sauce since that's one of their signatures. We actually got a side of the sauce to dip the chips in as well. For my main I had the Enchiladas Al Sol which come with one mole and one guajillo sauced enchilada. You can pick your choice of meats and I settled with chicken. So it turns out mole is not my favorite. I have had it before at other restaurants and I have to say that this one I liked the best but it couldn't compare to the guajillo sauced enchilada. I highly recommend trying out this sauce in some form or another. There's a parking lot in the front and through this narrow-ish space between two hedges. It's kind of a lot of parking for this place but it's deceptively big and it gets very, very busy. The later you come, the less of a wait there is for sure.

Yelp
The food was pretty good, but I was annoyed they have a plate splitting fee. Normally, partner and I split food because we're small people and these plates have lots of calories with all the cheese, etc. server was nice to tell us about the plate splitting fee in advance, so we ended up each ordering something.
