Best Halal Restaurants in Austin | Eater Austin

"With a sunny, relaxed dining room and a small outdoor patio, this charming French café also operates as one of the best halal restaurants in Austin. With everything halal and available to-go, the restaurant prides itself on its wide selection of crepes and coffee. Diners can also indulge in fun breakfast dishes like the Sunrise Tajine with Moroccan meatballs and sunny-side-up eggs, as well as paninis, burgers, pasta, and more. Satisfy a sweet tooth with the baklava cheesecake crepe." - Erin Russell

I've been here twice and been blown away both times. The food is even better than the pictures, everything is made fresh with obvious care. The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is like a vacation to a European town. Bhye, the manager, came out to personally check on us both times and makes you feel like you've always known him. Give this place a visit and I promise it'll be your new favorite breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner spot. It's definitely mine!

Amazing! Highly recommend. The food here was so so good I hope to go again. Service and atmosphere were also great. The s’mores pancake was so worth it and I loved my avocado toast.

Google
No wonder this place has 4.8 rating, haha! Yelps people rating are a hit and miss so look out for non biased. It's definitely a taste of Morocco 🇲🇦 in your backyard in Austin (BeeCave). I would like to add worth the 5-hour drive! If you want something fresh and tasting and you don't want American food, aka burgers and fries as always try out the Tajin style eggs! Or even Crepes! I praise the quality of the food, nothing that can beat 💓 the crepes are "yummy & super fresh," and the coffee is "delicious." Some reviewers have mentioned that the interior could use updating, but overall, the dining experience is considered enjoyable, and interior design is definitely fine! If you're in the Lakeway area and looking for a place to enjoy crepes and coffee, Vivel Crêpes & Coffee is a popular choice among locals and visitors alike, had this input from locals at Wholefoods down the road. Give a try and judge!

The Halal Menu and kind Management/ Manager are evident as soon as you walk through the door, you are treated to the high level of excellence , in customer service by the owner Bhye. The food here is always freshly prepared and the service is always served with a smile. I came here with my family the first time and I live far away in Cedar Park. Yet I don’t mind stopping by at Vivel anytime I am at Lakeway. I got the Shakshuka breakfast Tagine and the second time I came in and had a Gobbler Panini. It’s always fresh and evidently so.

I ordered the chefs burger, and my wife got the California Avocado toast. There are a lot of good items to choose from. Priced reasonably. The Avocado toast was awesome. Presentation and tasted great with the poached eggs. My burger plate was a little different tasting. Like a burger from the Middle East or something. Had this weird cheese that was strong like blue cheese. And a Middle Eastern spice. And a lot of salt. Without those 3 things, my burger would have been amazing. Next time, I'll remember. And my French fries had this seasoning on them try to be all gourmet. But I hate any kind of salt or seasoning. Why can't French fries just be plain ol French fries. I'll probably go back and try something else. I've been here a few times already. People are nice there. I'm not an ice cream or desert guy sad because they have an awesome selection of that. I recently returned the place was terrible. It was filled with smoke from something burning. They don't have a good ventilation system. I left there smelling like smoke the rest of the day. My eyes burning. I doubt I'll ever be back to this place. Unpleasant experience. I need to try the place across the street from there. That looks like it will be better.

Google
Such a cute little café, and everything was so delcious! I especially loved the aubergine crepe, it was the best I've ever had. So fluffy and flavorful! You can't go wrong with any dish here as they are all fresh and intentionally crafted. Highly recommend!

Google
We found this place by accident because we missed breakfast at our hotel and we ate so happy that happened. The staff was very friendly, place was very clean and our breakfast was so good, we made sure to return for dessert before our trip was over! Highly recommend!

Google
Stopped in here to see what all the fuss was about. Late afternoon on a Wednesday and still vey busy. Tried a Greek gyro crepe and really enjoyed all the flavors that came with that. The crepe is so tender and has a great unique profile for either sweet or savory. I’m hooked and excited to return.

Yelp
Great service and great food. The manager is Bai and is a personable guy who will try to remember regulars. Been going for 5 years and love it!

Yelp
Yeah this is better than La Madeleine. My wife and I don't frequent French restaurants that much, so going to another French restaurant again was a welcome change of pace, and we are both glad we went. The food we got was excellent and yeah the crepes are pretty great too, but we unfortunately didn't get to try the gelato. Hopefully that will happen the next time. I highly recommend going if you can!

Yelp
Good burger, good service, nice place, but all just slightly odd First off, they have a fairly large menu, and most of it can be made gluten free, which is really nice, and unexpected, especially for crepes, which you can pretty much never find. It's kind of a breakfast/brunch place and you can make either sweet or savory crepes. They also have salads and burgers. The oddities: - maybe tmi lol but the men's bathroom has a giant cabinet right in front of the urinal so you're basically doing the limbo do use it - the servers brought over the food to our table and I asked if they had ketchup - they proceeded to grab some ketchup packets from a self-serve station (nice but weird) - after getting our food, they asked us if we still had more stuff coming - shouldn't you know what we are supposed to have? - barely after finishing what was on our plate a server came and grabbed them and put them in a self-serve bussing bin - why have all of these self-serve stations if you're doing it for us?

Carol D.

Yelp
Great food, service, and locale. The food is fresh and the crepes to pancakes to burgers are delish!

Yelp
Great little spot! Great outdoor seato g and cute inside. But the real star is the service and the food! Everything is made from scratch with high quality ingredients. I had the classic crepe that was amazing and another at our table had the Shashuka Tajine that was unbelievably good! The service was top notch as well. From the manager to the food runners they were all excellent. Very friendly with amazing service! Most places have a hard time finding good help but not here! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great food! The harvest omelette was my favorite, the ingredients compliment each other very well and has a very good flavor. The fiorentina was a good savory crepe. The pene pesto was good but could have been more flavorful. Lastly the morning sunshine was good but probably will not reorder. The service was great very friendly and fast. Beautiful restaurant- lots of indoor and outdoor seating. In a great area near lots of restaurants and other stores
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little brunch spot! Everyone here was really nice and helpful for our first time visiting. - Fiorentina crepe 8/10 really good savory crepe. I liked this the most out of everything we tried - Harvest omelette 6/10 good classic omelette, nothing special. The potatoes were bland though - Morning sunshine crepe 6/10 i enjoyed this crepe but after a couple of bites it got too sweet for me. I recommending sharing this plate - Penne pasta 3/10 the pesto tasted watered down

Yelp
We can't say enough good things about Vivel and their staff. Food including desserts are amazing. Wanted to highlight Bhye- he is the face of Vivel for us. He is wonderful- hospitable, gracious, and always delivers top notch customer service. He always makes you feel like family. Thank you, Bhye and Vivel!!

Yelp
WHAT A SUGAR BOMB !!! * * * American crepes are not subtle. The difference between American crepes and French crepes Is like the difference between Hollywood Action Blockbusters and French Art Films. A dessert crepe for the French might be a poached pear with a minimally sweetened chocolate sauce ... Or the crepe might have a spoonful of jam. The Vivel Crepe Amandine is a crepe batter with a bagful of sugar - plus caramelized bananas - plus honey. There are nuts and nut butter in there too. Blissful Diabetic Shock. * * * Lakeway is in Texas - and Lakeway is Rich. Lakeway Residents think big. Lakeway Residents buy big. If you don't believe me, just look at the houses. They are build to look like Tuscan villas - But each house can hold three Tuscan villages worth of people. Each villager gets their own bedroom and bathroom. * * * Lakeway likes the American pleasures. Steaks. Club parties. Girls with bikinis on boats. Golfing. Football. American Italian, American Mexican, American Chinese, American Japanese and American Crepes. And the American Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese and Crepes you get are damm good. * * * Yeah, technically, you can get unsweet dishes at Vivel. They have savory crepes. They have burgers. They have breakfast dishes. By being careful, you can avoid having 6000 tons of sugar in your crepe. * * * BUT WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO?

Yelp
This is a pretty solid crepe spot! My friends and I visited on our road trip to Lakeway (a little outside Austin) for brunch on a Sunday. It was pretty busy but we were able to pull up an extra chair to a larger table for the 5 of us. You order at the front of the restaurant and get a number for your table. I opted for the Norwegian crepe as I was craving something savory. Our food came out pretty quickly! I dug in fast and quite enjoyed the salmon. However, I found the saltiness a bit overpowering. Regardless, the crepe was still quite tasty and very filling - I was not able to finish all of it. All in all, this is a pretty good brunch place. My friends enjoyed their crepes and paninis. I would come back here and opt for a sweet crepe next time.

Yelp
i was in lakeway with a few friends for a small lake trip, vivel was extremely close to our location and after getting a few recommendations to stop by we did! i love that they served breakfast all day!!!! and had plenty of food options!!! we sat outside because the weather was nice, very relaxing vibes. we got a few items to share all together, and the table was definitely not big enough to do that! we asked from some sharing plates and they only had really big ones as well, it was a bit of a struggle. nonetheless i would still come back to try some other dishes. penne pesto - 6/10 the pesto sauce was a bit too light for my liking, was our safe but basic pick Fiorentina Crepe - 10/10 this was REALLY good!!! i would get this again if i were to come back!! the pesto in this was perfect for my taste!! the morning sunshine crepe - 7/10 i wasn't a big fan of the fig and banana together, the flavors were kinda competing with each other of which one stood out more, we love brie though so we wanted to try it harvest omelette - 8/10 solid yummy omelette, the potatoes were alright though

Yelp
Go to place for pancakes but trying out the burger today! Great service, they can improve ambiance a little bit

Yelp
This is a great location. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I love their food and drinks they are very tasty.

Yelp
The seating was order and sit down. Seating was limited but we got a good spot in the shade. The peanut butter crepe looked perfect with the drizzle and all. It had a thick peanut butter layer with chocolate and the perfect serving for one person with a sweet tooth. Food came out relatively quick so not a long wait. For a crepe breakfast only I'd recommend here.

Yelp
Vivel is located in a cute little shopping strip with other restaurants and shops nearby. My friends and I stopped here for brunch before heading out to the lake and it was the perfect spot. The pasta was creamy and filling and the savory spinach crepe was my favorite. Service was fast and the restaurant is super cute!

Yelp
Vivel's is one of my favorite spots to eat in Lakeway. The food is excellent My go to is the Grilled Chicken Crepe (Sauteed mushrooms, mozzarella, arugula, mushroom pesto sauce). Their food is quickly prepared and very fresh. Presentation is nice which always adds to the appeal. Restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. Vivel's is definitely on 'My Keepers List'.
google avatar

Angelique G.

Yelp
We were staying nearby for a vacation and wanted something close by. I was originally wanting the s'mores crepe but they didn't have it at the moment. Sad. Anyways. Opted for the valentine crepe instead with a dark mocha. I'm a coffee snob so the coffee was alright. The crepe was beautiful and large portion which was great! Just didn't enjoy the tea leaves on it. Cute little place to grab a crepe!

Yelp
What an Amazing Place ! This Resturant is Casual with Indoor and Outdoor Seating and has a Large Selection of Crêpes to Choose from ! I just happened to meet the owner, the day I met a friend there, and he is a very personable Man who is very dedicated to his Profession ! The employees that we met, while we were there, were Friendly and helpful with our choices ! I selected their Chicken Crepe with Avacado but changed the Topping to Tzatziki....It was Beyond Delicious. There was more than enough of this Amazing Crepe that I brought half of it home and Enjoyed it for lunch the next day. I also ordered a Earl Gray Tea with Honey witch Complimented my Luncheon to a 'TEA' ! My friend just couldn't resist on of their Dessert Crepes with yummy chocolate sauce and she raved about it. You will Absolutely Love this wonderful Little Place to meet friends or loved ones for a Delicious and Delightful meal !

Suzette L.

Yelp
Second visit and still delicious! The POWER smoothie tasted great. Ordered the aubergine crepe, and it was fabulous. Texted a friend to get this place on the calendar for lunch. Excellent flavors hands down! Serving size? Generous!

Yelp
Vivel is a wonderful place for casual crepes, coffee, and excellent service. My first time here and I would definitely recommend it and will be back. They have gluten free and vegan options which are delicious. The wait staff and owner are kind and caring and we were told by the owner/manager that everything is made from scratch and they use only organic olive oil for cooking.
google avatar

Angela G.

Yelp
We had sweet crepes!! The classic and the lemon one with vanilla gelato. Warm and cooked to perfection. Incredible balance of ingredients in both. Also enjoyed a delightful tea latte with vanilla in a large mug. Wonderful setting for a date, a meeting, or a catch up conversation.

Bobby J.

Yelp
Vivel is one of those places you move away from and think about everyday. I spent college away and always thought about it. The canelle & framboise crepe are amazing. Nice service always smiling. The area is very cool too, shops and such near.

Yelp
Likely not a returning customer. I was excited about the great reviews and wanted to check out some crepes in the area, so proceeded to find this place in Bee Cave. We located it, but I have to say it was difficult. It is in the same building as a gym. We could see it from the parking lot, but could not figure how to get to it. We found some stairs that we thought would take us to it, but then when we got there, we asked at the desk and they told us to go back down and make a few turns or ask the next desk we come to. We finally got there. Recommend signs to point people in the right directioin. We ordered a Chicken Panni, a Smoothie, and an Acai bowl. The acai bowl was quite good and plentiful. You get to pick your ingredients. The smoothie was a Maui Breeze - passion fruit, pineapple, mango, Coconut gelato and orange juice. It was not good at all, in my opinion. It was very weak and watery. I tried hard to get the fruit taste out of it and probably the best I could get is OJ, but none of the rest. The Panini was good. It had a good pesto mix on it. My rating is a 3-star because there were two of us. My partner immediately got her acai bowl and I watched and waited as others got there orders. I watched my smoothie made and sat on the counter. I watched and waited. Almost 15-minutes later, I was called to get my meal. I asked her to redo my smoothie because it probably had watered down after 15 minutes. I put my partner in a position to eat as slow as she could to accomodate my meal delivery. My smoothie was watered down - maybe the one that had sat there for 15 minutes would have been better. And all this for $30 something. I think I will take my business elsewhere vs. having to deal with this kind of service. POST COMMENT: Please note, this is about the BeeCave location. Thanks to management at Lakeway for bringing it to my attention, I will give them a try. Unfortunately, doing a search for the business with the BeeCave location only brings this list of reviews up.

Yelp
This is more than a coffee shop, it's one of the better places to eat in Lakeway. Breakfast, lunch or dinner are all done quite well and good variety on the menu as well.
google avatar

Yelp
I dash for them all the time. Last night i picked up an order and talked to the owner and i said been meaning to try yall. What kind of crepe would u suggest. Told me classic crepe with a scoop of gelato. So i returned today and ordered his exact recommendation with strawberry cheesecake gelato scoop and HOLY CRÈPE! It was soo good! Owner is super nice he saw me and came up and kindly greeted me. Staff is nice too. Glad i came by to try their food, my only regret about this place is that i did not come sooner for that. Definitely will be back soon! Great environment too kind of gives you a european vibe. Keep it up you guys.

Yelp
Excellent food but also amazing service. The manager helped us get a table with a high chair during a busy time and was so kind. We will absolutely come back.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a warm bowl of soup on a cold fall day? I went to Vivel Crepes and coffee to meet some friends. I loved the ambience and my bowl of soup was delicious. It's a great locally owned business, with friendly staff, and a great assortment of menu items.

Yelp
FULL REVIEW RECENT 2/10/24 While eating here the service was okay just a bit strange on how they manage things (this is coming from a manager who owns a couple 5 star business in nyc and california) The Food was decent,i wouldn't go here to eat again unsure why the reviews are so high. Service amazing just why do the people working have to open the doors maybe it's a good gesture but not even in my 5 stars restaurant do that it makes it seem so desperate for people to come back. Also why is the manager always yelling at his staff to grab plates and open doors when they are self serving after all. Manager two faced guy just by talking to him nice to the customer and gets real personal. odd guy his accent makes it hard to understand him. he's okay Food the timing was amazing food was okay like i said before and if you made it this far, i wouldn't go here again Thanks for reading and do what you want with this review!

Yelp
Five stars A+! Branded with french images of the Eiffel tower, this crepe place astutely mixes a lot of north African and middle eastern influences by offering many variations on eggplant, merguez, tajine and other well know flavors of that part of the world. The result is very successful. The dough is well done and very soft, and the fillings delicious. The owner is a young man who actually serves the customers himself and his staff is well trained and polite. This might become my new favorite place. So many variations to try!
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
Clean, flavorful, authentic crepes. The staff was very friendly and on top of their job. The place was cheerful with great interior and very inviting for an early breakfast and coffee. Food: I tried their California avocado toast. The over-easy eggs were just great and perfectly prepared, the avocado spread has a nice texture and zip to it, without being mushy. It also came beautifully presented as seen in the photo. I'm a fan! - the food, service and vibe are all quality. Will return!! Thank you for making my day!

D B.

Yelp
Love the coffe and yummy food. Staff is always friendly! Keep coming back for the consistent good service and vale for my money. Yummy yummy yummy coffee!

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch since I was in the area. I had to try the crepes, so I ordered one sweet and one savory. For savory, I chose the fiorentina with chicken. For sweet, I ordered the classic with Nutella, fresh strawberries and bananas. Both were so large they filled the plate, so I boxed up half to go. The flavors were delicious.
google avatar

Eugenia L.

Yelp
Vivel has quickly become a favorite in my weekend shortlist of casual brunch places. Obviously they've got crepes both sweet and savory versions. Everything is generously stuffed or covered in toppings, making each bite satisfying. My recommendations from the breakfast menu are the Sunrise Tajine and NY Benedict. I enjoy having the crisp hash brown taking the place of the muffin since it has better texture. Also pairs well with the herb pesto. The tajine is a hearty start to the day with seasoned meatballs and eggs smothered in spiced tomato sauce. It's impossible to not sop up everything with the pita bread.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Fresh and delicious . Manager goes out of his way to welcome you . Loved the crepes , panini and avocado toast

Jeremy M.

Yelp
This place is always accommodating, food is fresh & delicious. Manager (owner?) is super attentive. Counter service & outdoor & window seating makes separate tickets/arrivals/ meetups very smooth. We always stay at the La Qunta in Sam center, mostly because this place is so close
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I love coming here with family and friends. It's a very relaxing hang out spot with amazing food. Very fresh. The service is first class. The food doesn't take long to get either. I ordered the rancher burger and let me tell you, I couldn't put it down it was that good. Best burger ever. All I can say you can't ever go wrong coming here to eat and hangout. I'll continue to visit to the end of time !!

Gary C.

Yelp
Awesome French toast and crepes. Great service! Love this place! Will definitely make it a regular.
google avatar

Seth T.

Yelp
Locally owned. Exceptional service and they place lots of energy, love, hard work and good ingredients into their offerings. Must support these good people.

Danny S.

Yelp
Been here numerous times as an out of town guy, I can't say enough. Their burgers and sweet and savory crepes are to die for.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
The food lacked flavor and every item we ordered came out all individually, so once my food came and I am eating half the portion another item would appear and then coffee came later etc...the seasoning was not as robust as one would assume the dishes could be.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Every time I order on door dash - if I do not call to confirm my order, they leave out ingredients. IE- gelato on the crepe. Tonight gelato was actually listed as an ingredient on the crepe & they just didn't include it. I don't understand the disconnect here people. The food is good but the lack of consistency leaving out ordered items is really disappointing. It happens OFTEN.

Michael D.

Yelp
The food and friendliness is consistently great. Thanks to Bhye for great service too!

Yelp
Love Vivel! We first found them in 2019 when my dad was hospitalized at Baylor Scott and White at Lkwy. They have consistently been our go to for crepes now that we live closer. My constant favorite is the Morning Sunshine. But my family and I have tried their paninis, framboise, tiramisu, nutella, almondine and citronade for sweet crepes and Gyro and Napoleon crepes for savory. Portions are huge! Tried their coffees too and doesn't disappoint. Always good and friendly service.

Khalil A.

Yelp
Amazing service. Even more amazing food. I've been here three times the past few week and I just can't get enough of this place. They seriously have some of the best burgers I've ever had in my +25 years of existence. Their sweet crepes are also incredibly delicious and big enough for two people or even more to share. The ambiance/atmosphere is so cute and cozy too. I recommend this place to everyone I know now.
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
We have eaten at Vivvel many times. Tonight didn't disappoint. The burger was delicious as always. Savory and sweet crepes were excellent. But this review is prompted by the service. Even though it is counter service, Bhye was working the floor. He was friendly, attentive and made sure we had everything we need. Thanks, Bhye.

Christopher S.

Yelp
Wow - I've been here a few times but wanted to leave a review this time because everything was just so damn good! We split the Sunrise Tajine - absolutely delicious, slightly spicy garlicky tomato sauce, fried eggs, ricotta and meatballs with warm pita bread to sop up all that yummy sauce. Tried the Morning Sunlight sweet crepe with Brie, figgy jam, bananas, walnuts and a caramel drizzle- great balance, not too sweet, slight funk from Brie and it was lovely after the Tajine. Also had an excellent caramel cold brew and caffe latte. The only thing I would say is that it's a little on the pricy side but the quality definitely justifies that minor thing. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and we can't wait to go back!!

RoseAngela R.

Yelp
They have an amazing panini and honestly everything I've gotten there has been amazing.
google avatar

Sheema S.

Yelp
Im so happy this cafe exists in Austin, it is definitely one of a kind! Ive had almost all of their sweet crepes and they are so delicious! My favorite paninis from here are the gobbler and merguez sausage panini. The best part is that its halal! Their tea lattes are very soothing, my favorite one is their golden tumeric latte!

Ms. N.

Yelp
First time here but what a great spot. Locally owned business with friendly staff and a great menu selection. Ordered crepes which were authentic and very tasty! Portions are quite large btw! Gluten free options are available and the meat served is halal! Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Staff and service 2/10 crepes 10/10 coffee 6/10 Was super disappointed for our first time here. They brought out our first crepe (apple pie) which had ice cream on it within about 5 minutes. We were waiting for the other crepe (classic) so we could eat together. I had to go inside to ask where the other crepe was and they said "we already brought it out" rolled their eyes and went back to work. They never brought out the second one and then finally "remade it" about 45 minutes after we sat down. Was delicious but was upset while eating, and then the cold brew latte was OK.
