voco Brisbane City Centre (Brisbane, Queensland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Voco Brisbane City Center brings some much-needed boutique-hotel style to Queensland’s capital, in the downtown core’s ever-evolving North Quay district. Its riverside setting makes for some impressive views, but the interior is easy on the eyes as well, in a palette of dark blue and gold with bold graphics and modern furnishings. Subtle high-tech touches, from charging ports to varied lighting, make these rooms ultra-usable, and the rooftop pool is an extremely welcome surprise — as is the restaurant, Kraft & Co., which evolves throughout the day from a café and bakery to a Japanese-accented modern Australian restaurant and, indeed, a swanky cocktail lounge." - Tablet Hotels

Had a fantastic experience here! Central location makes it convenient to access and travel around the city. The staff were welcoming and made me feel at home. I also requested for a room with a view and it did not disappoint. (See pics) Finally, as my returning flight was later in the evening, they even allowed me to check out just slightly later in the early afternoon. Thanks guys for making my short stay so pleasant!

Had a wonderful stay here. Was lucky enough that early check in was available for me and Trevor at the front desk was amazing! Very friendly and helpful! The room was nice. The breakfast here was a bit more expensive than I would have liked but there was so much on offer it did make up for it, had a nice view eating too.

Room 314 ACCESSIBLE I'm a full time wheelchair user so my review reflects that experience. *no wheelchair access from the carpark to the hotel *I have a small manual wheelchair & could only just get it through the door into the room *room is tiny, making it difficult to get around in the wheelchair *bathroom floor not graded so water went everywhere *shower seat rotten & coming away from frame. A safety hazard & one that didn't happen overnight. *fridge doesn't work The staff were very friendly & the location was good. But this room should not be advertised as accessible. And Maintenance need to up their game. Restaurant food was OK, not great.

As a hotel, the service hasn’t been great. Individually staff have been lovely though. I’m really unhappy with the cleanliness of the rooms. I spent several days here with friends and our rooms were not regularly cleaned. We would often come back to our rooms to find that the do not disturb sign had been placed on the door, presumably by staff, given that our room sign was still in our room and were all on multiple floors. When my friend asked if they could have their room cleaned, they were told that staff in Australia are expensive, as if you would say that to a customer phoning for service. Surfaces in the room were dirty upon arrival from the coffee table to the TV remote control were visibly dirty and clearly hadn’t been wiped down between guests. My shower has mould in it, and there’s mineral stains on the floor of the shower. The toilet seat is also defective and slides around. Am I nitpicking? Yes I am, but this is not what I expect from a four star hotel and my friends and I won’t be coming back.

This is a great hotel with friendly and helpful staff. There are views of the river available. A parking garage is underneath the building with good overnight rates. The food from the restaurant is delicious. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this establishment when in the city.

I was attending a conference here only so can’t give an unbiased opinion regarding the rooms but it’s certainly in a central Brisbane CBD location although I had to use a carpark a 10 minutes walk away as the carpark as the hotel seems to be too small to handle all guests. To top it all off the receptionist was hopeless and very unfriendly in validating my parking voucher but rudely demanded $39 for parking. I had to get a representative from the inviting company to sort it out with many other attendees of the conference definitely needing the same validation later. You would expect the receptionist at a well run luxury hotel to know about an event in their place and the arrangements being made for parking. The whole experience at the reception was quite unpleasant and time consuming as I was in a hurry to leave back to work and told the receptionist so without any adequate response.

I LOVE this hotel. I stayed here for work for 2 nights. It’s so clean, and the staff are so so lovely and helpful. Special shout out to Jo from Voco who went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and looked after. She made my day. I am Gluten Free Dairy Free so buffet breakfasts can be a miss but this one was really good - lots of choice and attention to dietaries. On site parking was great and again, the staff just made it the best.

On older hotel that has been nicely renovated. Room was appointed well, the only down side was we could not get the air conditioning to go below 21.5 degrees and with the heavy duvet (doona) on the bed and no top sheet the nights were a little warm. The river view was amazing both in the day time and night. The full breakfast included in the room cost was well worth it. You could not complain in anyway about the huge selection of food available. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was perfect for walking around the CBD and across to the Southbank. Recommended to others.

Yelp
Disappointed I elected to upgrade to a Suite thinking that it would be an outstanding experience, I was sadly disappointed. The room was on the 14th floor at the end of a dirty hallway. The room itself is big and the carpet new however the couch and walls were dirty and stained. Wouldn't stay there again.

Yelp
I stayed at the Mercure Hotel in September 2019 for a conference. The staff was very friendly, and the convention space was a great fit for our event. The breakfast was a great choice every morning. I dined at the restaurant twice, and both were great meals. I've only made this review 4 stars because of two criticisms about my hotel room. The room was exceptionally dark, as I had to turn on all the lights and even the desk LED lamp to see around the room in the evening. Plus, while the room had a closet/wardrobe, it was odd that there were no drawers in the space. I had to leave all my clothes laying out on the chaise lounge. Still, a great stay!

Yelp
This is a review of the bar (not the rooms or ovenight hotel stay). We went to this bar as it was 'newly refurbished' and had a happy hour. Though it was located inside a hotel, I've had some good experiences with bars in traveller hotels so we thought we'd give it a go. Service was slack to say the least. They didn't have our booking, the two staff at the bar told us to come up in small groups so they weren't overwhelmed and didn't really seem to have a handle on what was included in the happy hour. To add insult to injury, when a friend asked for a vodka & red bull the barman chastised him and said 'This isn't a nightclub you know, this is a restaurant'. How rude. Of course, all he needed to say was 'We don't have that - can I suggest something else?'. Finally, we had ordered chips and wedges. When they didn't appear, we followed up and were told that they (the restaurant) were 'all out' and someone had gone out to get some more. Really? A major hotel was all out of chips? Either their stock control is terrible or the guys at the bar were too busy mucking around and had forgotten the order. This is the first time I have given such a negative review on Yelp but it really was a shocker. We cleared out after two drinks and headed somewhere a lot more enjoyable. It was a very average experience.

Yelp
This was my second time staying in this hotel, and each time I found it good enough. Smallish room, good water pressure, some HD TV, and a par bed all add up for a par experience. I can't comment on price since we don't pay. The one thing to note about this and almost all hotels in Australia is that you'll pay out your ass for internet. It's over $25 a day, per device! So if you have a phone and a computer that both need internet, I hope you can tether! Other than all that, this hotel sits right on the river and is a short walk to anywhere in central Brisbane. I'd go back without complaint.

Yelp
This was my first time staying at the mercure hotel. We booked the 2 double bed golf view room. When we arrived, we were very unhappy to discover that our room was on ground level. We didn't get too see much of the golf course as we were on the ground, with numerous trees and other obstacles blocking our view. We also had to keep our curtains closed for almost our whole time staying due to the lack of privacy, considering we were located across from the dining area. The wifi at the hotel was okay. You get a decent speed of 400mb for free. After you have exceeded 400mb you can choose to get high speed wifi, which will cost 5c per mb, or you can choose to have the connection slowed, which will keep it free. The hotel only allowed one device per room to be using the wifi. The location of the hotel was excellent. We were 10 minutes away from Surfers Paradise and all the Theme Parks. The prices for eating were just a tad pricy. The food was decent and the staff working there were very nice. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Mercure.

Yelp
A very nice room and good wireless connection. Not much on the TV but sports and news Staff not as helpful as they could be. Value for price not so great but seems typical for the neighborhood.

Yelp
I traveled to Brisbane for a work convention. Check in was smooth, my room was very clean, tidy and spacious enough. As I was staying 4 nights, I would have like to unpack my clothes into drawers, but there are none. There is hanging space, but I like to unpack my underclothes, socks, etc and have them out of my luggage. That way as I dirty my clothes, they get packed back in the luggage, keeping them separated. Good room amenities with hair dryer, safe, tea & coffee, etc, mini bar prices ridiculous, nice shower, well cleaned and serviced by the cleaner who was lovely. Moving between floors was tricky. I guess for safety reasons your room key will only get you to your own floor. But as I was travelling with many other people from the same company, there were times when it was necessary to get to another floor. The only way to do that was to use the stairs, or meet the other people in the foyer and go up to a different floor with that person. Checking out, there was a line up of people, so I used the express checkout box. You drop your key in and leave. So later I receive the bill for the unpaid component to find I've been charged for 2 breakfasts when I only ate there once. Plus my card was debited with a pre-authorised amount of $203, which they didn't think was a problem as it should automatically be reversed. But it's a problem if your credit card limit is only $500 and there's no room on it $203!!! I rang them to ask what them what would happen and they were helpful, but it still left me a bit puzzled.

Yelp
Came here for a function in September. What can I say.. Extremely disappointed with the food service. I called the functions/events team 1 week prior to the function to advise of my dietary requirements, and also called up again the day before to re-confirm. Lets be honest, having food allergies is tough - but I've found lots of food venues to be accommodating. My expectations were quite low, and they definitely weren't even met. The entree was grilled vegetables. The main was also grilled vegetables. I clearly mentioned the food I'm allergic, and not once did I say I was allergic to meat or chicken. However I was given plain grilled vegetables. Surprisingly, the main came out and had grilled haloumi in the vegie stack. I had clearly mentioned I was allergic to milk / dairy (and milk / dairy products), and dairy also includes cheese, butter and cream (for those people who clearly have no understanding of what products include milk). So needless to say, I was a tad intrigued to see haloumi cheese on my plate. I sent it back and asked for meat. Not surprisingly, the vegie stack came back sans the cheese, but with grilled lamb. I have to say, the lamb was so tough and dry, it was unappetising to say the least. Poor guy at my table had the grilled lamb rump, and he couldn't eat it - it was so tough, the knife he had (not a steak knife) couldn't cut thru the meat. He had about 2 bites of meat and a mouthful of mashed potatoes, and promptly gave up trying to eat. And saving the best for last, I was keen to know what dessert would be... And surprise surprise, it was fruit salad. Fruit salad. WTH? I gave them a week's notice to notify the chef.. And I get fruit salad. I queried this with the event supervisor, and she told me that the chefs don't have the capacity to make anything other than fruit salad. Seriously?? I make dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, soy-free desserts ALL the time. And to be told that when I've paid $130 for a ticket to this function, that the chef can't prepare a dessert other than fruit salad. Get real people. This is the 21st century! 1 in every 4 people has food allergies. If the best you can come up with is fruit salad, that's pathetic. Take some initiative and get on to google. And what was even worse, the function supervisor on duty was actually quite rude to me when I queried my meals, and made ME feel like I was the one in the wrong. Not cool. When you're paying so much money, you expect some level of service, and some quality. THINK AGAIN. 0 stars. Worst experience I've had at a function so far. Considering I gave ample notice about my food allergies.
