Where to eat and drink in Chicago during a winter storm | Eater Chicago

"Inside the Thompson Hotel in Gold Coast, I note that Nico Osteria stays open to serve travelers when many other restaurants close because of dangerously low temperatures, offering an option for Chicagoans who don’t want to cook during the polar vortex." - Eater Staff

Nice budget hotel in the heart of Gold Coast. Market, beach and restaurants are walking distance and no driving is required. Rooms are clean and hygiene however at some floors they feel old. Service is ok not awesome but breakfast was good and we had for all 4 days however children were separately charged which was surprising. Car parking a gets full soon so be careful and it is not free. View from both side of hotel is good. Recommended

Voco Gold Coast offers a fantastic stay with stunning ocean views, modern rooms, and an unbeatable beachfront location. The staff are welcoming and professional, making check-in seamless. Comfortable beds, excellent amenities, and easy access to Surfers Paradise dining and entertainment make this hotel ideal for both relaxing getaways and business travel. Highly recommended for comfort, convenience, and quality service.

Loved our stay, me and my kids got the river view room 😍 and my brother and his family got the beach view room 😍. Both comfy beds, set up, bathroom, aircon etc. Service from check in was welcoming and friendly, checked us in early πŸ™. Parking is $25 a day. We enjoyed a swim in the pool nearly every day that we were there (there's 2 pools). Delicious buffet breakfast every morning with a wide range of variety πŸ˜‹. Got dinner through room service, yum and dinner downstairs at the social restaurant πŸ˜‹ lovely service. Washer and dryer came in handy before we flew back to NZ πŸ™. Nice, clean, tidy, decor very flash. Loved that our room was tidied every day, but it wasn't vacuumed properly once and it gets dusty quiet quick think it's because of the old aircon. Our wifi played up too, but the technician fixed it quickly so appreciate that. Also has a safe, to keep important belongings safe πŸ™. Overall, great stay close to many shops, activities, beach, restaurants. So much to do, love the touristy vibes. Many thanks 😊

The hotel is only okay Pros: The bed was very comfortable, well-located Pools were nice there is two pools plus a spa and a games room Cons: The check in experience was disappointing. We almost got denied check in and maybe got the police called on us. Because we booked under a child's name. Oh, thank God the manager was there. Otherwise, we would have been denied check in. Plus, rooms are too small. I don't know if we will be back

voco Gold Coast – Extremely upsetting and unacceptable experience I had a deeply distressing experience at the hotel breakfast that I have never encountered in my life. I ordered two omelettes and specifically requested no bacon, clearly explaining that I am Muslim and do not eat pork. The chef prepared the first omelette and asked me to return to my seat while he brought the second one. When the second omelette was delivered, I ate it assuming it was prepared correctly. It was full of bacon. This was not a preference issue β€” it was a clear dietary and religious requirement that was explicitly communicated. Being served pork after clearly requesting none is deeply disrespectful and upsetting. I raised the issue with staff and asked for reasonable compensation. The response showed a lack of care or understanding of the seriousness of the situation, with only a free breakfast offered, which was not appropriate given the circumstances. This incident shows a serious failure in food handling, communication, and cultural sensitivity. I would strongly caution anyone with dietary or religious requirements to be extremely careful dining here.

Good stay. Great views. Cleaning service wasn't the best. If they missed you or you weren't in they never come back. The buffet breakfast at the restaurant was not the best. Coffee wasn't hot, fruits didn't look that great and for a big hotel the selection of food is pretty limited. That's my personal opinion and someone else may love it. So pls don't judge.

Rooms were clean and comfortable. We go a nice (although distant) view of the ocean. Receptionist, George was really warm and welcoming. Parking on site which is convenient. Location was ok. Walking distance to main city area but since it rained we drove. Would definitely stay here again as the value was fantastic.

We had a good experience at Voco surfers paradise. Rooms were clean , beds comfy. Bathroom was clean. We took the breakfast buffet add on. Our kids loved the breakfast options.||Hotel is located very conveniently near the beach, about 5 mins walk away. Lot of restaurants and bars nearby if you wanted to go out to eat.||For car parking - We used the Bruce bishops car park which is just around the corner, took a 3 day pass for $49 rather than pay the hotel's parking which is $20 a day.

Yelp
I've been stuck here in quarantine, and after over a week and a half I finally snapped. I had a bit of a service issue and I reacted like kind of a jerk. I quickly apologized and STILL the wonderful people here went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of. I can not begin to thank the wonderful staff at this hotel for their kind and quick service.

Yelp
Voco is a new hotel. It used to be Watermark. Stayed after renovations and cannot really complain. Breakfast is expensive.

Yelp
Watermark Hotel & Spa Gold Coast: Traveler Reviews 3032 Surfers Paradise Boulevard, Surfers Paradise, Queensland 4217, Australi "not so hotel and spa experience" On arrival we were able to drive to the front door. Enter the hotel with ease, we were even able to leave the car just aside the entry drive while we checked in and received our car park pass. The staff at entry were clearly busy. We were not however told that there were repairs going on. Being this our anniversary getaway as we only had 3 days in full we wanted nothing more than to sit in the heated spa and relax. NO -the pool was out of service on one level and the spa was cold. Several times we had to request help regarding the heat of the spa - it was fast and prompt service. Though being that I had expressly explained this to the staff prior to booking the room - while making the initial phone inquiry I was very upset and disappointe - we had been giving a big bed, buffet breakfast, drinks on arrival and a discounted massage coupon for a 'great price'. compared to what my wife had found up the road for an extra $120 a night - I will never go back! EVER! The evening staff were rude; ignored us while we were waiting to get some local information. Were told that the spa being cold should be expected as it was so cold outside; that is not within their control. The restaurant was asked for a grilled tomato separate from the others due to an egg allergy - they brought out a whole tomato leaving it on the table. It did not look as if it had been washed. When checking for a spa/massage appointment we were told that they were fully booked and it should have been done at the time of booking - correction: was told that the massage/spa could be booked during our stay, the staff in the spa really did try and help and offered the two of a split half hour - so 15 minutes each. We decided not to accept that; though hotel staff told us we could book during our stay - mixed communications when staying for 2 nights 3 days. Location ok. Again not returning ever! Room Tip: Go elsewhere - q1, jupiters! See more room tips * traveled as a couple Overpriced for what they offer!
