Voco Oxford Thames | Best places to stay in Oxford |

"One for history lovers, this bucolically peaceful riverfront manor house began life in medieval times as the headquarters of the Knights Templar, and opened as a hotel in 2019. The hotel pairs contemporary furniture and design with exposed brick walls and original beams; it feels slightly mismatched in some places, but works particularly well in the impressive Crusaders Bar and Lounge – ideal for a post-sightseeing cocktail before dinner in the slick Napier restaurant. The location of the hotel – on the banks of the River Cherwell – is ideal for anyone who wants to explore Oxford, without being right in the centre. The dreaming spires of the city are just a few minutes’ drive away The hotel has a private jetty, from where you can hire punts or take boat trips, and the river path is a great choice for gentle walks – it’s a lovely hour-long stroll along the river to the city. A truly wonderful stay – as always! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was my third stay at Voco Oxford Thames, and once again, everything was simply perfect. The hotel never fails to impress me — from the warm, professional staff to the peaceful and elegant atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. The team members are incredibly kind and attentive, always smiling and ready to help with anything you might need. Their genuine hospitality truly sets this place apart. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and full of flavour. Every meal felt like a treat — fresh ingredients, great variety, and impeccable service in the restaurant. The rooms are spotless, cozy, and well-equipped, offering that perfect mix of comfort and elegance. The surroundings are serene and picturesque, ideal for relaxing walks by the river or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the gardens. After three visits, I can honestly say that Voco Oxford Thames feels like a second home. Thank you to the entire team for making every stay so special — I will definitely be back again soon! — Camelia Toader

We had a wonderful weekend stay at voco Oxford Thames. There was a wedding event taking place during our visit, but thanks to the thoughtful receptionist Heet, we didn’t hear a thing! He was incredibly attentive and accommodating, ensuring we were assigned a quiet room in a separate block away from the venue. Our room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully presented, with a lovely patio that made our stay even more relaxing. ||||We also had dinner at Napier’s Kitchen, tried the risotto and pasta, both were delicious, and the serving staff were friendly and welcoming, making the whole dining experience very enjoyable. During our stay, we made use of the leisure facilities, which were fantastic. The gym was well-equipped, and the swimming pool was inviting - perfect for unwinding after a day out exploring Oxford. ||||Overall, everything - from check-in to check-out - was seamless. We’ll definitely be returning!

This hotel was absolutely amazing as we hosted our annual retreat. The staff were amazing (specifically Natalie, Mihai and the manager who was on duty when one delegate got sick). They were super kind, helpful and communication was top. I would recommend this place again to anyone looking for a group stay as well as small stays.

Good rooms, great breakfast with a lovely view, good gym and pool. The staff were friendly and the reception and bar were a lovely place to relax. It was pretty easy getting into town by bus too. One downside was that the bathrooms weren't very warm and the towels remained damp so you had to change them which I try and avoid, but cold damp towels isn't a great hotel experience. I'm not sure why they charge for parking as it's an out of town hotel with bags of space.|Id recommend and visit again.

We recently hosted a part of our wedding celebrations at Oxford Thames. The property and its rooms are spectacular—surrounded by greenery and in a historical building. Every member of staff is friendly and professional. The location looks beautiful in photos, even on a cloudy day! We started the planning process with Julieanne who accommodated our every need from start to finish—even giving us a free upgrade to the honeymoon suite! She made sure our party was exceptional, we could not find any complaints. Tito and Henry looked after us during the actual event and they are both very professional. Our guests never had an empty glass and everything ran smoothly. We never once had to check to see if something had happened on time—they took care of everything. Zero gaps or shortcomings. Mihai also helped us and our party on many occasions. We are very happy to have chosen this venue. It was the most stress-free event we have ever planned. Our guests could not stop raving about the food and hospitality. We will happily recommend it to anyone looking to throw a party or even a full-blown wedding!

This was the perfect hotel for our family reunion. The rooms were incredibly spacious by UK standards and many came with a sofa bed. We were able to gather in the hotel bar area and with all the green areas around the property the children had room to run about outside. We had a great meal at the Kings Arms which was easily walkable from the hotel.

Celebrated my wedding one week ago and I have to say that Julieanne and her team were nothing short of superb! An incredible day and lovely weekend! The food was amazing and our guests are still talking about how brilliant the hotel is! A massive thank you to everyone who made our day so fabulous!

The hotel is well presented inside and out, time has been taken through out the property to keeps its historic character in all the public areas. Hotel set in nice quiet grounds.||Room was comfortable and well-equipped, the shower was excellent.||One evening we ate in the restaurant and can highly recommend the food and service, both were first class. The service we received from every member of staff we engaged with was of the highest standard.||Just to note hotel charge for car parking.

Yelp
My first time staying here. I'm impressed compared to other places in the Oxford area I've stayed. Not too long ago purchased by IHG Hotels, and upgraded services to meet IHG global standards. Beautiful property fronting Thames River in rural Oxford. I stayed in Garden wing room on first floor and room had French doors to small patio and table and chairs overlooking lawn leading down to Thames. Very peaceful. Check-in was brilliant. Very bubbly and helpful staff had everything organized and I was on my way to my room in no time flat!! Room pretty modern by UK standards, although a bit small (there's just too much furniture in the room, not all needed). The grounds and the food are what shines here. Love walking around the hotel grounds and taking in the beautiful trees, beehives, ducks and birds. There is a formal French restaurant (Napiers) where the ample breakfast buffet is served every morning. I tried Napiers for dinner one night. A bit expensive, but a nice food, wine and service experience. £100+ with appetizer, main, sides, dessert, and wine ... pp. There is also a lobby bar that opens about 11 everyday where you can get a coffee, and a number of good menu items from pizza and burgers to steak and fish. They also pour a nice Guinness pint and a good wine list. This menu is also available as room service and the food comes quickly and hot. Best hotel restaurant food I've had in UK. Plenty of little tables and areas to sit around the hotel, including many little outdoor courtyards that are landscaped nicely. Just very relaxing place. There are two gym areas available to visitors. One has cardio equipment (treadmills, rower, bike, elliptical) and one area has weight equipment. Both areas are pretty small and will be crowded if more than 2-3 people in either of them. There is also a nice indoor pool and spa, although I didn't try either this trip. It's about a 15 minute taxi or bus ride into central Oxford, so a good place to stay if you want to venture out on tours of the area. The front desk can arrange any of this stuff for you, just ask.

Yelp
Wow not a very good impression when the roads to the hotel are being blacktopped and all the entrances had cones. We had to drag our luggage across wet tar and then a gravel driveway, what a misery ;( We should have been notified in advance about this so we could switch hotels! We only had the one day (thank goodness) we decided to walk down to the mental hospital to catch a cab instead of crossing the huge field to the left of the hotel... The rooms were like a maze and we were assigned room 98 which was very far and had many stairs to lug our bags up, no elevator to be seen. I understand that these places could have been a country estate years ago, but... Thankfully a cab picked us up and we were able to get to the downtown city center where all the fun tours were. Christ Church and the St. Giles Fair. I'll get to them later. We got back around dinner time and shared a bottle of wine we got in town. The room itself was exactly what I expected with a comfortable bed, pillows and the did bring me a robe when I called down and asked. The included breakfast was very good and had all the different offerings one would expect at a expensive place like this one. The fruit was very fresh and the poached eggs were really good. When the color has a bit of a orange tint that means super fresh! This place had the coffee machine with all sort of coffee options and the most yummy hot chocolate! We had made a reservation the evening before because we didn't want to miss our train to Liverpool. Thank goodness our cab driver Mo was early and we were happy to leave. We didn't receive ANY apologies from anyone for our complete inconvenience and ruined wheels on our bags. We had 3 different front desk clerks that "helped" us and all were rude and not caring about our predicament. They SHOULD have directed us to a different place to stay and we even saw a different Voco residence with horses in the front. I am going to be sending a email to the corporation that owns this place to share our horrible experience.

Yelp
Excellent hotel! We loved our stay here. The family room was nicer and more extensive than expected. Service was helpful and our kids loved playing in the pool. The breakfast was excellent. We will definitely stay here when we return to Oxford.

Yelp
A beautiful restored manson with newer outbuildings that matched and complimented the style and era. Gorgeous grounds with an English garden, pretty patio areas situated right on the river Thames. The breakfast is self service and offers everything and tasted great. We also tried their restaurant at night time, which was also good, but the service was a little hit n miss, as they had not registered our reservation even though we had made it. The staff behind the reception area were excellent. Plenty of free parking. Our suite had a balcony with the English garden situated below, the beds were huge and super comfy. I also loved the bar and lounge area, the decor was gorgeous and they are contained in an old converted barn with a soaring high beamed roof. they also have a sauna, gym and pool.
