At the time of writing this review, I think Voga Italian Gelato arguably has the best gelato in Atlanta. It's excellent. They get their texture just right. It's so smooth, creamy, and delectable. And service is great too.
This gelateria is hidden from street view in the Inman Quarter development in the heart of Inman Park. You can find it next door to restaurant Bread & Butterfly and behind popular restaurants bartaco and Beetlecat. The business opened in September 2017.
Inman Quarter has paid deck parking, but I'm not sure Voga validates. I recommend parking for free on the street (e.g. North Highland, Lake Ave, Austin Ave, etc.). Just be sure to read any parking signs that note restricted times/areas.
During our visit, Voga had 20 gelato flavors on display; all free to sample. Of those 20 flavors, at least three were vegan. All of Voga's gelatos are made from scratch in-house. This is the first Voga location and by the time you read this, there may be additional locations open in metro Atlanta. Voga is also served in many restaurants around town including several in the immediate area.
The flavors available were:
* Ricotta
* Cheesecake
* Espresso Coffee
* Dark Chocolate (vegan)
* Tiramisu
* Wild Berry
* Fior di Latte
* Peach
* Pinocchio
* Nutella
* Voga Chocolate
* Bacio Chocolate
* Natural Coconuts
* Tropical
* Vanilla Bourbon
* Mango (vegan)
* Mix Berry
* Dulce de Leche
* Strawberry (vegan)
* Stracciatella
The shop was empty when we arrived. It was just us and Stefano C, who told us he was a partner, behind the counter. Stefano was super nice and friendly. He let us sample many flavors. With no one behind us, we were able to take our time. Everything we sampled tasted good to great. The more we sampled, the harder it made our decisions on what to order.
My wife and I both loved the Fior di Latte and Stracciatella flavors. I like simple flavors and the Fior di Latte is about as simple as they come. It's like sweet milk. Classic and pure. The Stracciatella was like Fior di Latte with thin streaks of chocolate added. Also really good. According to Stefano, the recipe/formula for the Fior di Latte calls for more cream the Stracciatella. Stefano said the Stracciatella was his favorite. The Fior di Latte was mine.
A few other flavors I really liked included the Ricotta, Cheesecake, and Dulce de Leche. The Ricotta was probably my second favorite. At the end of the day, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the flavors here. I ended up doing a two-scoop of Fior di Latte and Nutella (to mix things up) and my wife got a two-scoop of Voga Chocolate and Stracciatella. The Voga Chocolate tasted more like a milk chocolate to me. Along with having ideal smooth and creamy consistency, each gelato flavor was "fluffy," rich, and left you with a pleasant mouthfeel. Just really satisfying stuff.
One scoop cost $3.95, two $5.25, three $6.99, and four $7.99. Waffle cones and bowls were $1 extra. Voga also sells a lot of other treats like milkshakes ($6.75 each), gelato pops ($4.50) with toppings ($1), affogato ($8.99) in three different styles, Italian chocolates, crepes ($4.99-8.99), waffles ($8.50+), Italian desserts like cannoli ($5.99), and espresso and other coffee drinks ($3.25-4.75), Italian hot chocolate ($5.50), and more. All of the kitchen equipment, including the espresso machine, still looked new and fancy.
In addition, you can order larger quantities (1-2 pints+) of gelato, mini pops, and desserts to go.
A couple ended up coming in behind us and ordering crepes. The crepes smelled absolutely wonderful. I want to try one next time I come and maybe a waffle too.
The shop is warm, inviting, and simply decorated. It's small. The interior can seat maybe 15 customers comfortably and the patio can seat about a half dozen to a dozen more. The Inman Quarter development and surrounding neighborhood are nice to walk around with gelato in-hand so seating really isn't really an issue here. This is a fantastic date spot and works well for small groups too.
I look forward to enjoying Voga again.
Thank you, Stefano.
