14 Lively Portland Bars Where You Can Sing Karaoke

"Instead of singing in front of a group of strangers, visitors book a room with friends at both the Northwest Hoyt and Central Industrial Eastside locations of this karaoke mini-chain. In other words, singers won’t have to sit through some old guy’s drunken rendition of “Hotel California.” Those who like to plan ahead can search the catalog before their visit, which includes plenty of new hits as well as older standards. Room sizes and rates vary; visitors can book their room in advance online." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Had a blast singing karaoke! Words were wrong for a few songs (worst was AC/DC, shook me all night long) but that's not the venues fault! Food was as good as bar food can be. Would have loved a few more of the popular beer brands but a few of the cocktails were amazing! Great place to go with a group!

We rented a room for 2 hours. The staff was super helpful and checked on us regularly. The karaoke system was user-friendly and easy to select music. We had a ton of fun, and what was super cool is you could change the lighting in the room and add comments through the app so you could say fun encouraging things to the people singing. Another cool option in the app is a link to click to notify the staff you needed service. The last thing that brought the energy level up is a disco ball!

Karaoke booths with a central bar and servers. Karaoke system was some web thing that had a huge selection but really jank tracks and interface. Server came in between tracks quite a lot. Usual three mics one of which worked poorly. Finally left when the karaoke system broke temporarily. Ok time but not spectacular

Excellent group of people who work here. They were so welcoming and patient with us. They also had every song we requested. One staff member even danced with us in between orders! I highly recommend this location. Xoxo

Google
Omg literally what a fun place! Me and my friend came in without a reservation and they were able to get us in a room in less than 5 minutes! Keep in mind we went on a week day so I'm not sure how busy it is on weekends but I highly recommend this spot. You get a private room with microphones, access to play music, and disco lights! We stayed for about an hour and it was just enough time. If you are going with more than one person I would definitely recommend reserving a room in advance! It was $8 per person so around $16 for two people for an hour which is honestly a pretty good deal!

If you don't go by your legal first name and don't want to hear it spoken out loud in front of everyone you know, DO NOT GO HERE. I really wish I could say that I fully enjoyed my experience here, because I did actually have fun, but I had a horrific experience at the end of my night out with friends on 4/16 that ruined this place for us. It was a birthday party, and we had a small group of 5 in room 4 being helped by Johnny. Super great guy, really fun and chill personality. He took care of us throughout the night, and specifically made sure to only ask for our last names when we paid, because he knew that not everyone goes by their legal first name. As a trans person who can't afford to change their legal name, that made me feel very safe. Once our time was up, Johnny wasn't there anymore, but there was another person at the bar who called us over to close our tabs. It took a while for him to figure out the system, but in the time we were waiting, whoever the lady was at the front desk at 8pm that night starts calling out to us "(My legal first name)? Is there anyone named (legal name) here?" and I was mortified. My friends have never heard my legal name before because, again, I'm transgender, and that information is incredibly sensitive. She outted me in front of all of them. I lifted my hand a little to not draw attention to myself but to still acknowledge her, and she said something like "(Legal name)? Hi, yeah, we need to settle your tab." and I very angrily responded "Yeah, we're working on it." and I fully turned my body away from her. I stormed out of the building once the tab was settled, and I still haven't fully emotionally recovered now 3 days later. It's been on my mind this entire time. That experience was so devastating that I'm making sure none of my friends and I will ever return. $60 to sing some songs and get deadnamed in front of my friends is the biggest waste of money I can think of. Probably too late to demand a refund, if they can even figure out their own system enough to do it. Honestly, this is Portland, Oregon. Queer folk are around every corner. It blows my mind that the woman at the front counter, the person positioned to be the FACE of this establishment, would be so uneducated. If you're trans, save yourself the money and the embarrassment and go somewhere else.

I booked a room for my 25th birthday and was able to have my SpongeBob meme on the TV for when all my guests entered the room. Overall it was amazing the food and drinks and service were all wonderful. I will definitely come back here! ☺️

Yelp
HUGE shoutout to the bartender who handled that awful, belligerent, violent person last night. Give that girl a raise, she handled everything professionally and gracefully, very impressive. Besides that event, we had a great time. Amazing song selection! There's a mocktail menu, but would have loved to see a similar unique selection like the cocktail menu has. I'll be back again!

Yelp
It was okay. The sound system wasn't that great but doable. The place itself was very basic room with tables and chair and almost self service everything. We still had a great time.
google avatar

Yelp
A friend and I sang here last night and everything was on point. We weren't drinking so they showed us a menu of mocktails and they were fantastic. I had a N/A version of an Amaro Sour that I really liked and my friend had a drink that was subtle and not too sweet. The rooms are comfortable with good ambiance. Be sure to turn the disco ball on!

Yelp
We went for my friend's birthday last night and it was super fun, we had a great time. The workers were nice, prices were alright, and there was water in the room too which was great. There were some issues with loading up songs through their website though. It would seem to randomly skip songs in queue or not add a song when we tried to. The selection of songs was fine there were songs and artists like Ice Spice and New Jeans that I didn't expect for them to have but we still couldn't find some we wanted. We went to another karaoke place last year (also for this friend's birthday) where you hooked up your phone and found songs on YouTube. This was great for finding ANY song you wanted. And it would make sense for Voicebox Karaoke to have a separate website if the graphic for songs were their own, but they were definitely just YouTube videos downloaded to their website. The windows to each room face out to a common area where you can see people drinking, gathering, and waiting to be served which was a little distracting and uncomfortable since people could definitely hear and see you-- even if not well. Overall I'd say we'll probably go back to the one last year but if I'm in NW portland again and want to do karaoke, I'll come back.

Yelp
Come for the privacy, but do not stay for the drinks or food. Customer service is great and they checked in enough to make it feel like we weren't forgotten but not too much that it felt disruptive. There is definitely enough privacy for you to sing as loudly as you would like no matter how off-key you may feel. We were there for 3 hours and heard nobody else's rooms while we were there. The only complaint we have is their food and drinks. They are on the pricier side of things; however I was more disappointed in the quality of the food. To be fair, you don't necessarily attribute a karaoke bar for their food. that being said I ordered their chicken strips which only came in a set of 3 and had an unpleasant burnt after taste. My wife on the other hand only ordered a drink that did not feel like it had any substantial alcohol in it.

Justine P.

Yelp
Popped in here without a reservation with a group of 10 on a Saturday night (6/24) and the service was amazing! The girl who showed us to our room was so sweet and cute and she made sure we all had a really good time. Been to the SE location too but service here was a lot better, we'll definitely come back next time we're in town!

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Could have easily worked with us to resolve the issue but chose to not do that. I will never return.

Yelp
Was in Portland for the weekend and our group decided we wanted to do some kiddo friendly karaoke. After looking around on Yelp, I narrowed the search down to Voicebox Karaoke's two locations and Punch Bowl Social. After calling Voicebox's central line, I booked an appointment for a private room with relative ease and we were set to go. They asked us to show up around 15 minutes early to get checked in, which took much less time than the 15 minutes they recommend. That worked in our favor, as we got to get started early! Things like song selection and lighting of the private room are all controllable from a website, which is mobile friendly, and is easy enough to use. You can search for the songs you'd like to sing. The selection isn't the BEST I've ever seen, however the ease of access was excellent and we all were able to find a variety of songs to do. Appetizers were tasty and selection of drinks seemed to be solid. We all had a great time, and I'm glad we could do something like this to get the kids in our party involved and having a good time!

Yelp
"I've never had so much fun karaoke-ing!" That's what I and everyone else in our group of 15 said when we finally left Voicebox. We showed up late for our 9pm karaoke room reservation and after about 10 minutes of wondering if our room is big enough, decided to kick off the party and plugged in a song. Our hostess had explained how the system worked --clearly and concisely -- and I was impressed at how quickly we were up and running and starting our first song. She came back several times to see how we were doing and to see if we needed any drinks. And a half hour to the end, she moved us into a much bigger and super awesome room. We had so much fun that we ended up extending by a half hour, and then another half hour! The song selection is incredible, they had everything we looked for, and the sound system is fantastic. We had so much fun. The drink prices and selection are decent. They serve food as well, which we didn't need as we'd just had dinner but, near the end, we broke down and ordered tator tots and fries for the group. Boy that hit the spot! Highly recommend this experience. This place has got it dialed in.

Yelp
Came to VB for a networking party event. Customer service was great. Cocktails were decent pours. Sound system was lousy, the microphone sounded like a tin box as well as the music. The ease of using a cell phone to make song selections was helpful. Good for groups, kids up to a certain hour, and those that are more comfortable singing in a room rather than a karaoke bar.

Yelp
This is a cool spot to hang with friends and have good vibes and just sing away. If you haven't been I would really recommend you check this place out

Yelp
Every time I've come here they refuse to serve me alcohol to the point it's just comical. I come sober and I am 26 years old. It's always where I start but I am pretty fed up with the service and refusing to serve me. I work at bars and am from Portland. This place has been very mediocre and not very respectful since they have opened.

Yelp
I had been to a few different parties here - small rooms and big rooms for birthday parties and also a bachelorette event. I have always thought about doing something because I love karaoke but loathe most karaoke bars because they are just gross places with horrific sound systems and even scarier clientelle. This is all you and who you choose to invite. A few friends and I had mentioned doing a girls karaoke night at some bar. Then I found a Groupon steal for their normal $100 2 hour rental fee at $50 plus with an extra $10 off so $40. Now, the downside is the automatic $15 gratuity but that covers you upfront. I don't drink so I grabbed a $3 ginger ale. They provide a nice amount of water and cups in the room. I was pretty amazed at the great customer service they provided. They interrupt as little as possible just to make certain everyone is doing ok and also towards the end to let you know there is 15 minutes left etc. You can bring in some sweet treat like cupcakes, donuts or whatever. I grabbed Nothing Bundt Cakes little bundtinis which are $20 for a dozen and you can choose the flavors. The sound system was great, the song selection was surprisingly fantastic - seriously, they just keep getting more and more songs - way more than I remembered them as having. We had such a great time in a large room with three microphones so you can imagine the craziness. A few of our friends who do not even sing came just to see the fun. We loved being able to control song additions and moving everything around with everyone's phone - how awesome is that and makes for a grand party. I can hardly wait to grab another Groupon and do it all again! **WC** SO GREAT WITH THE WHEELCHAIR! Everything is very open and the staff were so considerate - I could have even transferred to any of the seating they were so open!

Yelp
Do not plan a private party at this venue! Spent 300$ to have my husbands 40th ruined. Admittedly we we're having a fun time but no one had more than 2 drinks and somehow we ended out on the street looking for a new place to go. It was almost comical, if it wasn't so sad, to see us all calmly pay our tabs in confusion. Think twice before planning an event here or at least have a backup plan.

Yelp
Came here for our friends bday party, with a group of about 20. Our hostess/server was nice, but she was hardly ever there.. maybe 2 or 3 times the whole 3 hours we were there, what is the point of having a server when we had to go up to the bar everytime. I guess our group were ordering too many shots in a short period of Time so they had us wait 30 minutes to order another one. We were in an alcohol "time out" and that was a really painful 30 min for us. Which is funny cause we ordered maybe 4 times in about an hours. They didn't have any of the newer songs, I was really looking forward to getting down on some bodak yellow and feeling my inner gangster but it didn't happen. So I opted for the classic gangster paradise by coolio Instead. Summer said they had some kind of server malfunction and lost a bunch of songs? I was so sad. Their bar is so tiny, got kicked out of the server station while waiting for our drinks but was confused cause we didn't exactly know where to stand. Overall, I give it a 3, it was a fun experience, server was friendly and the concept it great but it could be better.

Yelp
Had SO much fun here with a group of friends. We rented a room for a couple hours and were rock stars. Song options were aplenty, drinks were flowing, food was good, and staff were attentive. The only drawback is that it is a bit pricey, so I won't be doing it every weekend. But we will definitely come back again.

Yelp
Cool place. You get yourself a nice private room with your friends and you can jam out to your favorite karaoke hits without sitting through a bunch of esoteric hipster songs by Ramona Falls (unless of course that what you and your friends are in to). I love the app to request songs, no one has to fight over the book or figure out how to use the machine. You just go to the website, enter the code and fire away. Our server was very helpful. She stopped by several times and did a very good job of keeping the checks straight. I'm not so sure about the value, but right now they are free to drive the market as they wish. In asia these places are a dime a dozen. Why not in America? The only thing I don't like is the gratuity. I get tipping the server for bring us food and drinks. However I don't really understand tipping for the karaoke service since we are the ones operating the machine. I don't tip the car wash guy for letting me drive through the car wash. I don't tip the frozen yogurt guy for letting me use the frozen yogurt machines. I don't feel I should have to tip for being allowed to use the karaoke machines. Who exactly am I tipping anyway? Overall though, great product that I love.

Yelp
Do you want to sing karaoke? But scared of embarrassing yourself in front of strangers? Well, fear no more! Now you can reserve that embarrassment for just your friends by going to Voicebox! This is a cute little spot right off 23rd. I love the fact that they're bringing "karaoke-only" bars to mainstream PDX. It's reminiscent of the ones they have in Tokyo--dedicated rooms with a central bar that delivers both drinks and food to you while you belt your heart out to "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." (Wait, is that just me? Really? Okayyy). I always have a great time when I come here. I will say that if you're used to Karaoke night at dive bars (or going to Asian restaurants/bars for Karaoke) you'll be surprised that it's a bit pricey. But again, it's a different concept since you're booking it for that time slot for you and your friends. What I like the most about Voicebox is the fact that it's a super customizable experience (a la Japan): You can change the lights (rave it up!) and create a queue of songs for you/friends to sing. And if there's no one booked after you you can extend your time--which, at that point you'll do, because, let's face it, you're buzzed and someone needs to do their rendition of Thriller. So you'll do it. And you'll kill it.

Yelp
I've never experienced a real Japanese-style karaoke bar before, and for someone who likes it belt it out late into the night this is a fun treat. Perfect for both the introvert and extrovert in all of us. Get a room for one and unleash your inner Freddy Mercury or bring all your friends and rock out to drunken renditions of "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and "Barbie Girl." Service was wonderful and food/alcohol selection was more varied than I expected (like seriously, where else are you gonna find multiple brands of sake outside of a sake bar?). I really wish a karaoke concept like this existed back home in Arizona. I think it would do reasonably well!
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
I love how easy and quick the setting up of the karaoke is! I felt like it took under a minute and not to mention everything is controlled from your phone including the lighting! My party and I were late and they were really chill and accommodating which I appreciated a lot. I've never gone to Karaoke place where everything just went so smoothly. Our waitress was really great, she was attentive and fast. The food is your typical bar foods, a bit overpriced but still good.
google avatar

Rhyanna D.

Yelp
It was actually a great establishment I love the private theme of the business however I dont think robbie is happy to work there or knows the essence of business. He has very little customer service skills and is very short with guests. He became short with us and stayed rude till we left the establishment. I believe in great or bad experiences my first impression of the establishment was definitely great but left with a bad experience. If I had to justify my star rating i put 1 star because i was refused to pay another hours worth of karaoke service that was only gonna be 45mins more of their time. But them more concerned about closing and getting home they refused my service. But thank you for the experience it was one none the less.

Yelp
A private room for you and your friends to drink, sing badly, eat, and be merry? What else could you ask for! I did have my doubts. When I lived full time in Portland, I didn't make it frequently to the Alphabet district or to the NW area in general, unless it was to the main Powell's bookstore location, but this is perfect for entertaining small (I would say 6-12 people) groups of people. They have food and drinks to order. I think that it comes out about the same price as a night out with the same amount of people. They have several rooms of various sizes, and really go out of their way to accommodate everyone. They do have a large selection of songs to choose from that will meet the needs of everyone involved. I would suggest this as an event for groups, whether friends, family or coworkers as a great time for all. I did not take any pictures, nor will I force videos of my singing to anyone. You really don't want to hear it, and I really don't think I should quit my day job to become a musician any time soon. Just believe me when I say you will have fun and it is well worth the trip. There is one kaveat that I have only been to a karaoke place like this in Taiwan, where they are very popular, and I'm glad to see these in major US cities.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Came here with about 10 friends and had a great time. The servers were attentive, the snacks came out quickly and were delicious, and the beer menu helped us get the most out of our singing time. The cell phone song queuing system was much better than the awkward remote used at a lot of other places and I also appreciated being able to search for songs on my own instead of waiting for the song book to be passed around like at traditional karaoke places.
google avatar

Veronica W.

Yelp
I came here last weekend for a friends birthday and had a blast! I was not the one who made the reservation/checked in so I am not sure how that process went or really how much it was but wanted to leave a quick review anyway. It was my first time at this location and just like the other, the venue itself seems fairly small but once you get into your individual rooms, its like you and your friends are the only ones present! You can't hear anything from the other rooms when you are in yours. The technology is explained to you in the beginning and super easy to use. Ordering drinks/food is simple if you just go up to the bar. My only issue was they did not have any Katy Perry songs from what I could see. I am not sure what that is all about but a few of us were bummed when we wanted to sing Firework. Nonetheless, good times!

Yelp
Been coming here for years until the SE location opened up awhile ago.. both are our go-karaoke spots! Came back to this location the other night, only to realize how much smaller this location is, but that doesn't necessarily take away the quality of this place. Love that you can order food and drinks along with your karaoke entertainment. Though I am not thoroughly impressed by the song books - it just takes a long time to look up songs, some titles are very disorganized, we often have another song book of a different language and it's even harder to find songs we want. But the new (okay it's been new) method of using your phone to find songs, especially the newer ones not included in the song books, has been a HUGE plus, quick and easy! And we don't have to fight over the song books either. Prices are reasonable, what a great place to hang out with people you are not afraid to sing your heart out with!
google avatar

Minh T.

Yelp
Nice spot! Much smaller than the SE location but we still had fun nonetheless. It can get pretty expensive but when you're out, drinking and having a good time, that doesn't matter. Especially if you're with people who will go in on it with you. The servers here were nice as well. The SE location has more comfy seats but this location seemed more open. Give and take, or pick your preferences...you'll still have a good time at either location.

Yelp
Singing is not my thing Singing in front of people? Oh hell no. That is just scary. This is why: when I erupt into song, I am just positive that I sound like a young boy going through puberty; voice croaking and squeaking. But Voicebox Karaoke Lounge is a different animal. It provides cozy, private rooms where you and your friends can look like idiots, and sing your hearts out. Or, if you are me, you have friends that can actually sing brilliantly, and your brilliant friends are forgiving of the lone idiot (me). Yes, after a few cocktails (they serve cocktails) my Karaoke cherry was popped. I sang a duet with Orian's mom Janet and you know what? I wasn't as scared as I thought I would be. Joe M., it was a terrific idea to have your birthday party at Voicebox. The gal behind the bar took excellent care of us. They have a great range of songs to choose from and there was never a dull moment. I really can't wait to come back and pick up the microphone again.
google avatar

Yelp
Voicebox is the premier place to go for private-room (Japanese style) karaoke in Portland. They have 2 locations, one in the SE and this one in the NW which are comparable in atmosphere and service. The song selection is the same. The major differences are that this one is down town, which is a nicer part of town, and parking is harder to find. The song selection is decent--not the most comprehensive, but good enough for most of your party needs. That goes for the English songs. Acoustics are okay; don't expect to sound like you'll be on Broadway with these microphones! I mostly sing Japanese songs, and overall the Japanese selection is lacking and random, and it's not easy to find Japanese songs using the phone app or the song books, which are ordered in an obscure way. I would not know about the song selection for other languages, but my friends who know Spanish were able to pick out some songs they wanted to sing. Price is decent, which is to say, not inexpensive. Sometimes you have to reserve rooms a few days in advance, especially for weekend gatherings. Food selection is also okay, with a good assortment of snacks to recover those calories you spend on belting at the screen. Water is free with refills, which is a plus. Really, what makes Voicebox stand out are the service, the phone app input, and little things in the karaoke rooms like the disco light feature which you can access on remote control. If you are looking for a fun time with karaoke in Portland, Voicebox is the place to go.

Yelp
Just when I thought Noraebang style Karaoke wouldn't exist in Portland, along comes VoiceBox. Scott Simon's inspiration from karaoke adventures in NY and other places have benefited Portland's night life scene in a big way. VoiceBox combines some of the best things private room karaoke can offer and I for one, am quite impressed. In New York, there are several different systems that dominate the karaoke scene, everything from Korea's Ziller (www.ziller.kr) to the popular Karaoke Champ (http://www.yelp.com/biz/karaoke-champ-new-york) to the Japas chain (http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Japas&find_loc=New+York%2C+NY&ns=1). Voicebox has managed to offer most of the aforementioned song selection, which has resulted in vast selection of current multilingual songs. Voicebox has managed to utilize a very customized system that allows for everything from background voice manipulation to operating a disco ball. The sound system has been solid for the most part, nothing crazy enough to blow ear drums out but a step below award winning acoustics from Bose. They now offer wireless mics, which is a welcome change since they opened three years ago. As far as I know, there isn't a public room for singing. This may come as heart breaking news for our gringo, public drunken karaoke friends, but VoiceBox is meant for private room singing aficionados only. Their largest rooms can accommodate more than 20 folks and the prices aren't back breaking with group rates of $40-70 and individual $4-7 per person, per hour. Tuesdays are their AYCS (all you can sing) happy hour special, which can be had for a palsy $10. Noraebang isn't noraebang without some soju, which unfortunately VoiceBox doesn't carry. It's a sake and beer house for the most part, which given their fun variety isn't such a bad thing. The food is a bit of a yawner, consisting of Asian snacks that may or may not have been sitting in a freezer from time to time. Thankfully, most people come for the songs, not the food. One thing Voicebox does that I've yet to see any karaoke joint in NYC do, is offer both a simultaneous individual / group rate for any given reservation. They're good about asking folks prior to starting the room and are very flexible (so as long as the bill gets paid) I've had friends who are "in and out" of karaoke parties, the staff has been very diligent about collecting whatever money they could to apply to the room charges. Overall, Voicebox is a testament for the awesomeness of private room (aka Asian style) karaoke and they've done an outstanding job of highlighting the best aspects of any respectable KTV.

Yelp
So fun! I love karaoke! Drinks are good and pretty strong! Assurance for some good, crazy, musical fun. My friends were huge fans of the Blossom. And the bartenders are super nice. My friend doesn't drink, but I wanted to get her something so she could cheers with us, so I bought her a bottled juice and the bartender poured it into a glass with ice and a lemon so it looked prettier. They have this cool system where you can add songs on your phone which is pretty cool and convenient. The only downside is that they don't play the music videos on the tv monitor. Its also kinda pricey, so I've only ever gone for HH or with a groupon.

Yelp
I haven't been to Voicebox because I had heard it was quite expensive. But I think the prices are not bad if you agree to split the check. We had nine people and paid $50 per hour for three hours so it worked out to be about $17 per person for three hours of fun. Also, we happened to be there at Happy Hour and happy hour drinks seemed normal - $4.00 for well drinks, $4.50 for whiskey sours. Non-Happy Hour Rainier was $3.50. They had a really good song selection, the place was really clean, the workers were wonderful and attentive without being overbearing. I would really like to go back sometime!

Yelp
It has been almost a year since my first visit to this charasmatic karaoke mecca! Everytime I make a visit, I always get a warm welcome from the staff. They are some of the nicest and friendliest folks in town. I arrived just before 7 PM to make sure I had a room secure for my group. The staff ensured me I would have my room ready when we decided to go in. When the group arrived, we marched right in and I explained how the system works. It did not take very long for the group to build up the song list. We had everything from "Centerfold", some Johnny Cash, a little Bee Gee's, down to even "The Love Boat" TV theme that the boss picked out to sing. I love the sake selection they have including the plum flavor made from Forest Grove. The staff came in periodically to check in and see if we wanted more drinks. When one of our friends took his turn to sing, we were simply amazed by his voice. We definitely clapped and cheered more than I could count that night. The best deal for long term singing is on Tuesday night from 7 to 11 PM for $10. They also offer a happy hour special daily from 4-7 PM that includes $4 per hour per person. They have some food options including a variety of dumplings. The cheeseburger dumpling is a nice surprise that the staff came up with. I will definitely order some for the group next time. Everyone that arrived thanked me for puttng the event together. It is definitely one of my favorite places to go and get that singing sensation fix!

Yelp
Ehh not a good place to karaoke. Drinks were not made well, music itself was terrible quality. It was like a knockoff version of the real song, and they had backup voices on the track that you had no option to get rid of. You can't control the echo or much about the mic at all. Also overpriced. The only thing I liked about it was the ease of adding songs from your phone.

Yelp
Probably the most fun we had on our Portland trip! As soon as you walk in the door you're treated like a celebrity. Very professional and personable service by the awesome staff! The song lists were so good, we had to add an extra hour and close the place down (sorry, guys!) I loved the private room, the smart phone controls, the drinks, everything! If this place wasn't 13 hrs away I'd probably live here! Just don't try and sing Part Of Your World, you'll never top my performance.

Yelp
I left with no voice. It was awesome. So my best friend from Florida was visiting, and we had a lady date here. It.was.awesome. We arrived early because we didn't time the train right, and there were super nice and got us checked into a room early. We had done our research and learned you can search their music library online and create a list of favorite songs before, so you can just show up and sing. Such a cool idea. No books to try and search through(they have those too, but I HIGHLY suggest taking the online route). We both made lists, and could connect through both our phones so we both could easily search and add songs to the list. It was effortless and saved us a lot of time. You get your own private room which is cool. Operating the songs was super easy with our phones and the remote. You could even set the lighting in the room- which we obviously selected the disco lights. Our host explained everything and set us up with cocktails before we started. We sang for our 2 hours, and then actually extended for another hour because we were having too much fun. And the best part, it is only $5 per person, per hour during non peak times( i.e friday and saturday nights). Super affordable and super fun. I only have two complaints, and they aren't even really complaints. So there is no backing voice track on the songs like most karaoke, it is just you. It is weird at first, but you get used to it really quick. It also got really hot in the room. Granted we were dancing pretty hard and jumping around, but I can't imagine how warm it gets with a larger party of people. We fixed that pretty easily with lots of cocktails, and the water they provided in the room. It was so fun, and we will definitely be back. It is a great option when you want to do something different with your friends.

Yelp
Awesome private karaoke rooms where you can jam out and be yourself. Service is always friendly and helpful here! I appreciate the unisex restrooms. My only suggestion would be to improve the cocktail selection to highlight more seasonal drinks and local spirits.

Yelp
We rented a karaoke suite for our whole family in celebration of our daughter's birthday. Everything, from the initial booking to the actual event, was seamless and wonderful, thanks to the incredibly professional, warm, friendly and kind staff! Our suite was spotless and perfect size - we even had enough space for dancing along to the songs! The food was great, service was excellent, and the simplicity of building our song list from our phones was great. We had such a fantastic time and will DEFINITELY be back!!

Yelp
This is the best karaoke spot I've been to. Hands down! Me and 8 friends were planning to go for 2 hours, but ended up staying until close (4 hours, I think). It was seriously fun. I don't think there was one song that we wanted that they didn't have. They had Chinese and Thai pop songs... which a couple friends loved singing and they said they were working on other country's local favorites. Seriously legendary! The service was very friendly. The whole place is decorated nicely and well-kept. The huge bottle of sake we drank throughout the night cost $50. Kind of a steal since it was shared by so many people. The technology in the rooms is perfect too (you can see the song list and add it it as you go). And the rooms are completely soundproof - an easy karaoke room requirement that is rarely fulfilled.

Yelp
This place is off the hook! It combines the best of communal and private karaoke bars. They have rooms of all sizes. We booked the biggest room for our group of 22 (it has a capacity of ~30) and it was perfect. It was also a steal at only $80/hour weekday rate (it's more expensive on weekend evenings.) The bar in the middle was great. They had a reasonably good selection of beer and cocktails, and you could also get food in case you were hungry. Since it was Wednesday, they had happy hour all night! While at the bar, you could see (and to a degree, hear) people having fun in the rooms. But once you got into your room, the noise was well-insulated from the other rooms. What really made this place awesome was the song catalog & the ease of selection! In addition to books, you could look up songs on their website, and enter a code to choose a song online. They had a lot of "2nd and 3rd" singles from new wave artists, whereas many karaoke bars only have the biggest hits. Also, a number of people in our group were from China, and they had an amazing Chinese and international song selection! We were having such a good time that we extended our reservation all the way until closing time!

Yelp
So I love voicebox normally. But recently they started adding a 27.00 gratuity for the room automatically and add automatic gratuity to checks. You either pay 120-180 for a room or 60-90 with a Groupon. And you have the gratuity and then MORE automatic gratuity on each individual check. I have no problem with tipping and often tip 30%. Everyone else tips too. I just can't afford to keep up with how much I have to pay just to get in the door. I love this place but if gratuity keeps being added I will not be able to afford to go here.

Yelp
The concept of your own private karaoke suite is awesome. It was a fun time and our two hours went by pretty quick! You can change the temp and lighting in your room as well. The only downside was the food and drink menu... way overpriced and the quality was not there at all. Also not a very big selection. I suggest filling up before you go. What kind of bar doesn't carry Fireball, yo?

Yelp
Had our daughter's birthday party here and this was our last visit for 2 reasons: 1.) Why do they need to see I.D. of adults who are not drinking? They most certainly don't ask to see nor do they need to see the I.D. of minors that were with us. I brought $60 for food and non-alcoholic beverages and ended up spending $0 due to the power trip policy of demanding to see the I.D. of an adult that is not drinking when there is most certainly no reason that they NEED to see it. Learn to respect people's privacy (i.e. their weight, address, gender etc.). 2.) When we made the reservation over the phone they did not disclose the mandatory service charge. Although it's probably buried in tiny print somewhere on their website, this is a shady practice. Why not just charge the true price of the entire experience? There is no valid excuse for this practice except other than deception. It's unfortunate that an experience can be positive for customers, just to have that experience ruined by power tripping policies and deception. Their loss. Our Karaoke machine at home along with Ewe Toob will do just fine from now on.

Yelp
We rented a private karaoke room at the Voice Box for my birthday. We submitted our request online and someone promptly called us back. Although nothing was available for our requested day initially, they put us on a wait list and we eventually got confirmed in a day or two. Pretty smooth booking process. We were a group of 5 and had a blast. We had booked our room for 2 hours. But they kept giving us an option to extend it and we kept taking it and ended up spending 5 hours instead (I understand that the option to extend will only be available if they can accommodate you). Great collection of music. You can even link your smartphone and queue songs through your phone... that makes it very easy! You can even check their website ahead of time to see if your preferred songs are on their collection. We ordered some drinks and food too while we were there. I guess it was all good but honestly, we were too busy with the music. Courteous staff. Fun place. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Voicebox was the first karaoke bar I've been to in Oregon. When I came inside, the venue looked clean and modern. We were greeted by a very friendly male server, he was very sweet and all of my friends enjoyed his service. Room: The room had different lighting options. We could either have it dark and intimate, lit, or there were also party lights that moved around the room. The room had 2 microphones, outlets for us to charge our cell phones, water and cups, and lots of seating. Super room for or party of 5. Song selection/music: There was so much new music! I loved how many options I had for songs and how there was a place for us to suggest new songs for future dates on the counter as well. I've never been to a karaoke bar with such an updated list of songs. I also enjoyed how I was able to create a playlist before I came in to save time. I also enjoy how we were able to change the pitch of the songs as well. Food: I ordered their loaded tater tots and they were so good! My friends and I ate them all pretty quickly. I was disappointed that we didn't have a bigger but the general point of the place is to sing and drink so I'm not going to dock off a star for that. Service: Our server was great. He answered all of the questions, provided prompt service, made us laugh and made us feel very comfortable and happy to be there. When we accidentally dropped a glass they cleaned it up, brought us another tea and didn't act annoyed at all because we did so. All in all, I had a wonderful experience. I can't wait to be back!

Yelp
As far as private karaoke rooms go, Voicebox has everyone beat. I've tried private karaoke boxes in Beaverton and Portland. You can dim the lights in the rooms, turn on the disco balls......they even have tambourines for you to play if you wanted to. The staff was very friendly and taught us how to work the karaoke and lights. You can order food and drinks in the rooms as well. Definitely more fun with the more people you include!

Yelp
Soooo... the service was great and the overall atmosphere and experience was great. The bartender was attentive and was able to thin a crowd of thirsty guests in meer minutes and the music selection and pricing was definitely reasonable. I have no complaints about the service or any of the employees in the least. However an establishment can't just be judged on service alone. I understand that this is a karaoke bar. Meaning you come drink, and sing songs with friends (loads of fun). But when you drink and laugh you also want to eat... and as a bar in Oregon you are required to serve some sort of warm food. And that is exactly what you will find here.... (to my, and probably others dismay.) I understand that it isn't the cook's fault but whoever created this hot pocket microwave menu.... I can clearly see a full kitchen, with potential not even utilized in the slightest... the drink menu is all about sake and trying to showcase Japanese influenced drinks which makes sense because karaoke is japanese. But the food menu is all (sub divebar) pizza (if you can call it a pizza) tots, quesadilla, hummus, etc.... wtf?! The only thing japanese on the menu is edamame....?!?!?!? And there is banh mi which isn't japanese... but it is Asian food. None the less, I am upset as well as others I talked with about the food MENU (note that I am not complaining about the cooking, I've eaten the food...multiple items just to try and prove myself wrong) Whoever made this menu needs to get slapped in the face because business and profit for this awesome company is being lost. People who are here in a room for 5 hrs are going to get hungry and will want to be more than satisfied with well developed dishes to chose from.. also slow days and slow hrs of the day won't be slow if there is more incentive to come here because the food kicked ass. Just think about it. Really. The menu here is a joke and you all know it.. better food should be coming out of here...by now... (because Voicebox is awesome!!) it would really increase the rating and satisfaction of your customers, even if you think your doing just fine right now (you always could be doing better). Thank you for listening to my rant. Hope you don't think I'm just hating on you because I'm not. Just some criticism. :))

Yelp
This place is awesome. I give them excellent stars!! I recently booked the big 30+ room for a surprise birthday party and everything went smoothly. Who knew a place like this existed in Portland! The 30+ room was your own bar and lounge complete with coat racks. The servers are really great, they are on top of things, and even dance along to your song choices. The server comes in and out to take orders and brings them right to you. Along with the many tables, you also get a separate table by the door for water pitchers and if you have a cake. I did have a bit of a scheduling problem in the beginning and lost my booking mid-way. I pleaded my case and they were very apologetic. At the end of the night, I was too drunk and accidentally over-tipped our server. So word of advice to you all, have someone with you before you cop out the cash. I gave her over 30 bucks in tip!!!

Yelp
always check Groupon before booking a room here it's great though to be able to sing with your own party the food is good, prices were good, drinks are strong they ID you before you come in and put your card on file so you can have your own tab. they have happy hour during the week where you can take your children easy to add songs via your mobile phone and Q them up I love this place overall!

Yelp
I'm giving this 1 star solely on their unfair business practice of charging 2 people for the price of 6 people during 'prime hours' which happens to be ALL DAY on Saturday. I did my due diligence to try and book an evening well enough in advance to ensure I get a room. What I got instead is an attempt to hustle money out of me because I am a party of two. They should take a lesson from Seattle's Rockbox, which doesn't have any crazy policy like that. I've been able to get a room for two on many occasions without even a bat of the eye. Bad practice Voicebox. Bad practice!

Yelp
I participated in a virtual karaoke hosted by voicebox. It was so fun and really easy to use. I was just on as a fan but my husband sang and it worked great! Thanks for finding ways to have fun during quarantine Voicebox! You're the best!
