Where To Have Your Birthday Dinner In Philly

"Who doesn’t love a good karaoke bar on their birthday? Neon lights are flashing, liquor is flowing, and for a brief moment, you get a glimpse of what your life would be like if it were a musical. The best place to do that is at Voix Karaoke Lounge in the Northeast. With an open lounge on the first floor and 10 private rooms (for up to 35 people), they have a karaoke experience with range. They also have an impressive menu of crispy chicken wings, dim sum-like steamed chicken dumplings, and an extensive sushi menu. So whether you’re just there to cheers with tequila (a bottle usually comes with your room deposit) or have your friends serenade you with Whitney Houston, they’ve got you covered." - candis mclean, alison kessler

The Best Late Night Restaurants In Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"If you’re serious about karaoke, then you’re legally obligated to visit Voix Karaoke Lounge in the Northeast, drink tequila, and watch a friend destroy your favorite Whitney Houston ballad. Not only does this karaoke bar have the best song list and private room set-up in the Philly area, but they’re open until 2am on the weekends and make surprisingly good chicken wings and dumplings. Neon lights flash. Liquor flows. And for a brief moment, you’ll get a glimpse of what your life would be like if you were the star of a musical. " - Candis Mclean

Great atmosphere, the food was so good! The only thing was that it wasn't a server assigned to the room. We had to go out of the room to order, which I think takes away from your room time. It was all worth it.

Google
Had an amazing time. Loved the private room. You get a lot for what you spend. Especially if you go with a group.

Google
An unbelievably poor experience. If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. We called ahead to confirm if private karaoke rooms were available. The staff on the phone said, “Yes, you can come now, we have small rooms available.” So we drove 30 minutes, only to be told upon arrival that the karaoke section was closed. The receptionist claimed the person on the phone thought we were just coming to place a deposit—something that was never mentioned during the call. At the front desk, three staff members were laughing and chatting showing no apology and concern, simply stating, “We’re not open yet.” We double-checked Google Maps, which showed they were “Open,” so we called again to point out the discrepancy. Their response? “You should check our website.” That’s not professional, and it clearly shows a lack of care for customer feedback. After some back and forth, they admitted the call wasn’t clear—but when we asked if there would be any compensation for the wasted time, they said no, just that they would “train the staff better.” FINE. Our one hour of time and transportation costs have now become your employee training budget. And all we got was a “Sorry.” Maybe this could be a new business strategy on Wall Street—lose the client’s money entirely? No problem, just say, “Sorry!”

**IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO PEANUTS JUST MAKE SURE 2 ASK OR TELL THEM TO NOT PUT ANY, got our food & it didn’t specify anything/ also i’ve never had peanuts in this type of meal, I think that should be in a description on the menu!!

Google
I really loved the decor, and the prices are SUPER REASONABLE‼️ We shared the jellyfish 🪼 appetizer. The sauce was really good and flavorful. But the texture was too tough for us. We're glad we at least gave it a try for the experience. We both ordered the BBQ Ele sushi rolls for our entrée. Which we both loved❣️I also got the miso soup, which was flavorful. And my husband ordered shrimp rolls(Which were big, and tasty) to go. Will definitely be back!☺️

Google
This place is great!!! If you love karaoke, this is the place to go! The food is great, the prices are decent and from what I gathered their drink packages are good too!!! I've been here 4 times already and I always have the best time!!!

Google
Everything here is good. It's one of the few places I prefer to go order my takeout in person instead of calling ahead cuz I can get a good drink at a good price while I wait. The music is pretty good and they play all the sports. I'm singing along and dancing in my seat while my bf is watching the game. Evening happy hour is from 7-9. Princess and Gabe hook the drinks up. I haven't been to the karaoke rooms, but they're very popular. The bathrooms are clean and the music is loud enough that you can have a convo without anyone overhearing, but you can still hear each other. Issa vibe.

Google
This spot is great for karaoke, food, and drinks! The atmosphere is lively, and the overall experience was enjoyable. I ordered the shrimp and broccoli with white rice, and while it was flavorful, I wasn't a fan of how the shrimp was prepared. The shrimp is fried in batter before being topped with the brown sauce, which made it VERY SOGGY and gave it a distasteful texture. While the dish is tasty, I think it would be much better if the shrimp were steamed instead of fried in batter. Overall, it’s a good dish with room for improvement.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday celebration and had never been here before. Upstairs is bar with open seating. Downstairs is and upstairs they have large spacious rooms available to rent for your karaoke party. You can choose a traditional karaoke tune or you can choose a song to sing along or even lip sync to. The sound quality is very good and is adjustable. Ordering food for the party was a little bit awkward you go the order window, pay and order and they bring in your food to the room. I guess that was ok but for a large party it was a little awkward with random orders coming in and out. The food wasn't great wasn't terrible.. the price point for food was also fair ! Pricing was very fair for the value we did order bottle service for the room at booking!

Yelp
I hate leaving poor reviews because I know it negatively affects a business, but I must explain how this place scams an extra 20% on every transaction. I was told $78 for an hour of karaoke, then I saw the next day that my card was charged $101.40. However, my receipt wasn't itemized, so I had no clue what I was charged for. When I texted them inquiring about the extra charge, they told me it was a 20% gratuity/service charge and I'd have to call to dispute it. Please keep in mind that no one even directed us to our room, let alone "served" us. When I called, I was placed on hold before being transferred to the "manager", who told me he couldn't look up my file despite me having a photo of the receipt, the credit card used, and all the information regarding the transaction. He proceeded to pretend like it was too loud to hear me (conveniently right as I told him I had all the necessary information for the refund) and insisted I come in during their hours to dispute it further. I live 2 hours away, which I told him and he still wouldn't budge. So they unfortunately charge this 20% to every bill, and I think it's important to know before getting scammed. The actual rooms of the place are really cool with great systems, flashy lights, and effective mics! Shame their service couldn't be worse.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday but she decided to rent out a karaoke room here pretty early so that my daughter could come. This place is a club but they open pretty early for anybody to come in. What impressed me the most about this place is that you could order food pretty much right next to your karaoke room. And a complementary bottle came with your room order. Maybe that was because of the early bird hour. We ordered the karaoke room, but either way it's pretty cool that they offer this. The room was massive and there were monitors all over the place. It was pretty well sound proofed and you could barely hear anything from the outside.. I honestly didn't think the food was going to be great because I mean it's a karaoke bar but the food was pretty awesome. Actually order there even if I wasn't coming to do karaoke. The only thing that was a bit subpar were the drinks but the whole experience made up for it. Anybody down for some UYE Yelp karaoke?

Yelp
This is my go to place normally , but for some reason they thought that it was ok to give me these burned up wings this time . So disappointed . The food is good and on point usually

Yelp
The Shrimp fried Rice & Spicy Tuna Rolls never disappoint! Whether taking out or dining in, the service is fast and always fresh. I also had a wonderful time sitting at the bar. The Bartender was friendly and provided us with great service throughout the evening. The Karaoke rooms are top tier compared to some I've partied in. Overall, beautiful vibe!

Yelp
Such a great time and vibe here at Voix, my cousin had a karaoke birthday party here. The ambiance was inviting and the lighting was amazing. The room we were in was huge and could easily hold 100 people. They had several rooms to choose from depending on the size of your party. I was pretty sure the women would out do the men, but the men held it down and sang their hearts out beating the women. The food and drinks were good. We had finger foods shrimp rolls and fried chicken wings. An drinks were plentiful. Street parking on Cottman Ave. Just be careful as the cars fly up and down this strip. Will definitely be back !!

Yelp
Definitely a vibe!! I could see myself coming back here again. The pictures and the menu does not do the food any justice--trust me on this... They have a restaurant connected to the venue that serves traditional Chinese takeout items so that's pretty much what they have to offer--We had wings and shrimp rolls which were pretty good; can't go wrong with those for quick finger food items. The space was spacious and aesthetically pleasing to say the least. My only complaint would be the music choices as a lot of the song choices were outdated but I will be honest and say that they have more current options than other karaoke places I've been in Chinatown. The venue has a bar in it too! Overall, I enjoyed myself and would recommend checking out especially if you live nearby.

Yelp
My friend and I went to have a drink or two and a fight broke out in the basement. Come to find out there wasn't any security due to it "not being being a busy night"

Yelp
When I went back last month there was a lot of changes in their system. They have a new system that allows people to search songs on Spotify which is wonderful!

Yelp
Voix is nicer than most, if not all of the Karaoke bar's that I've been to in Center City Philadelphia with all of the convenience of location to Northeast Philadelphia. From what I can tell they took their time renovating the building and it really shows. One enters the venue with coat check to your left (for the colder months) and ample foyer space for a queue, if necessary, and ID check. Once inside, the bar opens up to your left with bar seating along the granite countertop, and well as high top seating to your right surrounding smaller tables. If you have a private karaoke room, those would be upstairs on the second floor, but the general lounge continues through double doors past the bar. My friends and I had visited specifically for the Lunar New Year Celebrations so we had a couple of drinks prior to the beginning of the festivities. The drinks were reasonably priced for both drafts and mixed drinks (I literally hate when places charge you an arm and a leg for a shot, it's ridiculous). They handed out Lucky Red Envelopes to all guests which had varying prizes of cash, free drinks, or goodie bags to be distributed at a later time. Super cool for a door prize! We ventured upstairs to check out the accommodations for the private rooms and we were very impressed! The hallway leading to the rooms has lasers and lights coming from the ceiling paired with fun lite up walkways as well. Very upscale and very instagram worthy. The room were spacious and vary in size-- the ones that we popped into looks to fit between 6-10 people, but I read on their website that they have larger rooms for parties of 15-25 as well, which sounds like an ultimate jam session. Later that evening when the party started to get going, we ventured into the main lounge to dance to the set of their DJ amidst their laser display. There are tables in the center of the room as well as lining the sides for rent. We ended up getting a table with bottle service and it was a BLAST. The bartenders came out with fireworks and a light up ice bowl to keep our bottle cold. It was wild, we had so much fun, such a great VIP experience. Overall I cannot wait until we return to Voix to do some karaoke in the future. We had such a great night and all of the bartenders, promoters, and staff were so lovely and made us feel like we were the only ones there when in reality they were entertaining a room full of people. It seems like they genuinely care about each of their client's experiences, which is amazing to see for this new business. Can't wait to see what the future holds of Voix!

Yelp
A place called jannies was down the street from here and they were the best, maybe only good one around. I was hesitant to try this place out because it looks like a lil bar from outside and all of those places that have something special w food, word travels but i guess others weren't sure either but i can tell u... U think sushiman or mr sushi is authentic? Its like a Chinese buffets sushi... U think maybe the Chinese can duplicate Japanese dishes but apparently they can't. Sushi is an art. Everything has to be cute and made in such a way, and i cant believe so many people think those others are where its at. It can be ok for maybe a California roll. But so is the local acme. Try This place

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place because it's close to my parent's house and so aesthetically pleasing and upscale looking, but god, the flavors and textures in the food are NOT good. I got the Spicy Beef in Szechuan Oil (which came with white rice) and it was SWIMMING in oil (see attached pics). I LOVE Szechuan sauce, and the spicy little peppercorns that come with it, but this was EXCESSIVE. my eyes were watering and I had to use a colander to drain it and rinse off the maybe 20 slices of hot chili peppers that were in it. I also got the lamb with cumin, which WAS tastey, but even that had way too many Chilis and was hard to dodge around them. Finally I got an eggplant skewer, which was the least offensive spice wise, but just way looking at the pic, you were essentially eating two tablespoons of oil per slice. Recommendations to the restaurant: PLEASE less oil, and maybe make an option for spiciness level on any site you use (Grubhub, online order, etc)

Yelp
I came here for a birthday party and was pleasantly surprised by this place. I assumed it was going to be the typical run down karaoke place but this place is far from run down. The private room was extremely spacious with enough room for plenty of people to sit, stand and mingle and dance. The bathroom were clean and well stocked. I'm not a drinker so I can't comment on the drinks. The food is average food that you would get at a bar, not bad. I would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
First time here. They have a restaurant and a bar/karaoke area near the back. They do chinese/japanese food. But more of Sichuan style. We ordered the beef tendon in hot oil, seafood delight and a speciality Whole fish in chinese sour veggies. Overall the food was good and pretty traditional. The whole fish turns out to be a soup too and came with tons of sour cabbage and peppercorn. I felt like there were too much peppercorn. It was hard drinking the soup with a bunch of peppercorn in my mouth. With that said it was still very good. This is good for a cold cold day. The seafood delight was good too but the lobster felt a littlw overcooked. Overall a very good experience. I would come back for the fish soup.

Yelp
Really, really dig this place. Good mix of Chinese (traditional and western-ized), Japanese and even some Thai cuisine. Have always ordered delivery from here and it has always arrived fresh, hot and accurate. Sushi is great as are any of the traditional Chinese dishes. Highly recommend the Dan Dan noodles. While most of the Chinese food places in my area taste the same this place is a definite stand out.

Shan C.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Me and my friend are visiting this area and decide to stop here for a late lunch, the inside was super cute and our waitress was really nice,we ordered 2 rolls each and they were delicious! Everything tasted fresh and the presentation was beautiful too! We also see some traditional Chinese food options (Szechuan style),definitely recommend this place and will come back for more food!

Yelp
my god what awful service, our attendant i believe jessica was her name has zero knowledge of what she is doing. Normally we dont like to nit pick but clearly this girl has never worked in the food industry before. She served all our drinks where her hands were practically touching the rim of the cup where you drink from. food she served you can see her fingers have touched the food. This is covid and there is zero professionalism in how to keep your customers safe. Not to mention she was absent pretty much 95% of the time. I dont believe we came off rude to her at anytime during our stay, but she just gave us the cold shoulder and neglected us. Probably because we were Mexicans. Place is nice though, maybe well just ask to be seated with someone else next time.
google avatar

Mai H.

Yelp
I had take out from this place 2 times with my colleagues. They love spicy food, so we got the skewers to try, but I am not a fan of them because they were marinated pretty spicy. The skewers have the Szechuan spicy flavor, so beware if you can't eat spicy food. The beef tendon was decent, but it did not stand out. It can be a bias though since I hate bell peppers, and they put lots of bell peppers in it. The other chicken dish was salty. The stir fried chicken with lemon grass is my favorite so far from all the dishes I have tried here. I will try the sushi later since it seems pretty popular option here.

Yelp
We dined in the restaurant tonight. Our server Jimmy was very nice and helped with a dinner choice. Tea was served just after we were seated. We started with a dragon roll and fried pork dumplings! The presentation was beautiful. Sorry, missed taking a few photos. Both apps were excellently prepared in a timely manner. We shared the Lamb with Cumin. Just amazing. The correct amount of heat as we were not looking for a spicy meal tonight. Very extensive menu, Asian Fusion, classic Chinese and sushi.

Yelp
Would definitely recommend the walnut shrimp and salt pepper chicken wings!Staff are nice, restaurant is brand new and clean!

Justin L.

Yelp
I would give this place 0 stars if I could. The website is completely false advertisement. The website stated that the minimum spending rate includes food and drinks but when we arrived, we were told the minimum spending rate is ONLY for drinks. (They want you to crawl out of the building with alcohol poisoning) It is absurd to say the least. The management is appalling and the prices for the drinks & food were awfully overpriced. Will not recommend.

Eleni T.

Yelp
I have ordered 3 times from Voix. The lamb with cumin and the shrimp shumai. The first time both items were superb! Second time the lamb was beef!!!. I figured someone made a mistake. The third time was today. Again the shumai was very good but the lamb was replaced by beef submerged in chili oil again!!!! Enough chili oil to kill a small horse. I called the restaurant and told them I grew up eating lamb a couple of times a week. I know the difference. No matter how it is disguised. They wouldn't have it. So I spent 37 dollars for 2 items and again I ended up eating the few pieces of shumai. I can not in good conscience order again. I am sorry.

Yelp
This place is really great. We had our staff party twice there. The karaoke rooms are really clean and deck out. We book two different rooms when we had our party and love that they have private restroom in the karaoke room, so you don't have to leave the room or even go out and share the public common area. The food was decent for bar food. Love the grilled squid on the stick. Nice options of food to eat and alcohol

Yelp
They are super nice!!! Music is good, the rooms are good. Got a free upgrade and discount!!! MUST GO!

Yelp
Food was pretty bad. I ended paying $30 for the 4 dumplings and the chicken lettuce wrap. There wasn't enough lettuce for the chicken and the menu is very non descriptive. You don't expect weird vegetables and nuts( I think) in the chopped/ground chicken mash. The dumplings are more like buns. And if you know what soup dumplings are it was more like that. The filling was way too engrossed with soy sauce that's the whole taste u got from it. I kept trying to give away the food because it was so bad. The owner brings friends and other people to fill in seats because the place was so empty. It's a smart thing to do but definitely doesn't solve the problem. The place is decorated nicely but it's not going to make it far unfortunately. The karaoke itself has the wrong lyrics for some songs. Had a Decent selection. The bartender was really entertaining even sang with us. You'll get a lot of ghetto people coming in because it's right in Mayfair/ McDonald's is right at the corner. When I left there were 5 cop cars right outside if not more. Parking was street parking and free.

Yelp
I believe this is the sushi place i have been ordering from. I love their food. I have been ordering here very often because i love their tempura as well as their crab maki.

Yelp
I ate here the other day with a friend of mine from town and the service was pretty trash. It wasn't very busy but the waitress we had Jessica took forever with our order, came back with cold food. Had to ask another waiter for refills on our drinks. Needs better service.

melissa h.

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER THE SUSHI FROM HERE!! I ordered 3 different sushi rolls from this place last night and I didn't even eat half of them and got extremely ill with diarrhea, vomiting and very bad dizziness all night.
google avatar

I. S.

Yelp
I ordered delivery through Uber Eats and the food was delicious. I really enjoyed the hot and sour soup, dumplings, plus the sushi. They called to let me know one of the dishes I ordered was not available and I substituted it for another. They also gave me a free California roll for my inconvenience which was really nice of them. I would definitely recommend this place as the food is good and the customer service is excellent.

Yelp
Great place! Can't wait to come back with an official table! Good people & decor! It could use a hookah though... :)
google avatar

Yinglin J.

Yelp
How nice it is! It is a good place having fun with friends or family. I just came here last week for my birthday, they service were so excellent! Whatever acoustics, lamplights, singing systems, food are wonderful! For the price, it is economical. You could spend your time in a pleasure, luxury, and idleness room with your favorite food here. And the food is free if your your room price is more than the food. That sounds great right. To be honest, it is a good place we can not miss! I already had a magazining and unforgettable night there.
google avatar

David V.

Yelp
I was at Voix for the soft opening and this place fails to disappoint. Exceeding expectations as I have been waiting for it to open for a while now. The main bar area is very spacious and that alone can set this apart from many of the bars in the area. The real draw is the karaoke room and bottle service area, which is huge! Definitely a place to go out in an open room. If you'd rather have a private room, the upstairs has plenty of karaoke rooms at affordable prices. I recommend Voix as a great alternative to the Chinatown karaoke options.
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
What a great hidden spot in NE Philly! the service was outstanding and it is a great deal, especially when going with a group. They were always sure to check in and make sure we had everything we needed, and were extremely kind during the entire process. Definitely would come back in the future!

Megan L.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars, I most definitely would! The management here sucks. They literally force you to drink to be able to stay in the room. How can someone possibly drink that much just to stay in their room! I had booked a room for 3hrs, to find out later when I get there that I need to drink $414 worth of alcohol to stay in the room since it doesn't include food. I would be spending basically $500+ just to stay in there to sing for 3hrs with food and drinks. That's just crazy! There is clear false advertisement and when I addressed it with the management team, they just said that was a old policy although it's still on their website. Eventually, they just told us to leave but they wanted to ensure me that they would have the website changed. Well, shucks, I should be flattered that I'm the hero to them by notifying them about their inaccurate website. If you looking for a good place for karaoke, this isn't the place for you unless you wanna spend all your money on drinks, to not even be able to stand up and sing or better yet, not remember a thing.

Yelp
Wonderful place to grab a drink after work. Center city style bar in NE philly and the staff are AMAZING.
google avatar

Yelp
The decor in this place is amazing! Everything turned out so nice and was well worth the wait. It's the perfect place for a celebration like a birthday for karaoke. All members of the staff are pleasant and welcoming. Super chill and friendly vibe. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
This place is very official, staff is super friendly and courteous. This place is still new, but I see a lot of potential.

Suzy T.

Yelp
For those who's coming to karaoke lounge, please be aware! They will add 20% gratuity to your bill without any notice, you might double tip them if you are not aware of that. Their service is okay but looks like there's only one people working there, we only got served after waiting for 20 minutes. Price is a little pricey too.

Estephany L.

Yelp
Way too expensive I was in the private room it's about 185/hr, this is about at least 3 times more than most of the karaoke place . I mean I been to so many karaoke places from ny to philly, this is the highest will never go back again!

Sandra D.

Yelp
Low class and way too expensive, not to mention $8 a bottle for generic water!! Bottle menu $150-$6000 per bottle! On Cottman ave? You've got to be kiddin!. Cramped karaoke room with very limited music selection.. Service sucks and not customer friendly. First and last time there!!!! I'm being generous in giving the 1star!!!!

Yelp
I visited today to get a bite to eat because the nail shop I go to is right across the street. I sat at the bar and asked for a Pinot Grigio, but the bartender didn't seem to know what that was. I then asked if he has any white wine and he mentions a bottle of wine I've never heard of and states it's not sold by the glass. Other than the bottle he offered me to buy he said they didn't have any. He pulled out a bottle of moscato that was tucked in the back which I accepted to drink. Secondly I wanted to put in an order for food but I had to go to the other side where the dine in is located. The hostess wasn't friendly at all and told me to wait a minute in a stern voice as she was assisting another customer. Sorry for the long review but I feel like the hospitality could be better and also the drink menu should be expanded. Some of us adults like to drink wine at Happy hour. Also the bartender stated to another customer he's also the manager so maybe they should actually hire a professional. All I wanted was nice ambiance with a glass of wine. (Side note ) He didn't charge me for the wine. I guess he felt bad.

Yelp
This place was terrible I got about five different things I wanted to try from here. Not a single thing I got tasted remotely good. There was no flavor at all it was all bland. Everything tasted fake or prepackaged. The only thing I could bring myself to finish was the sesame chicken and that was barely. the only reason I ate the whole thing is because I spent $40 and wanted to feel somewhat full.

Yelp
This place has amazing sushi! It's definitely the best in the area. So fresh and very delicious every time. Don't want to get sushi anywhere else now. Love it ! Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Didn't actually sing. There was enough of that going on around us. Still had a great night, thanks to Mariah keeping us hydrated at the bar. Great way to end the day after watching Navy beat Army. Nice folks, and a great place for people watching. Only downside was having to smoke outside, but only because it was cold and wet, and we don't have to do that in Tx.
