The 6 Best Hot Spring Hotels in Taiwan - AFAR

"A Relais & Châteaux luxury property in Wulai that’s easy to reach from Taipei via metro plus a hotel shuttle, offering an adult-and-over-12 public bathhouse divided by gender alongside indoor cold and hot pools, saunas and steam rooms. The hotel sits on the Nanshi River with large windows framing river and tropical-forest views, and it also offers a handful of intimate private hot-spring rooms rentable for short sessions for guests who prefer privacy. Note that the hot springs close each Wednesday." - Clarissa Wei

Volando Urai Spring Spa & Resort (Taipei, Taiwan) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Taipei might be best known overseas as a modern metropolis, but you’ll find one of Taiwan’s most relaxing and private retreats just an hour outside the city limits. Surrounded by the forests of the Wulai Mountains, Volando Urai Spring Spa & Resort showcases the area’s invigorating hot springs. Rooms, ryokan-like, come with their own hot spring baths overlooking the river through floor-to-ceiling windows, and an impressive public bathhouse includes a steam room, sauna, outdoor hot spring pool, hot and cold spring pools, and hydrotherapy pool. Guests can also opt for a morning Tai Chi session with the in-house integration practitioner or a hike to one of the local waterfalls." - Tablet Hotels

Really thoughtful and complete resort experience. From the service to the food and the whole space design (like the interior, scent, and music), you can feel that everything is done with great taste and care. The stay includes afternoon tea, dinner, night meals, and breakfast. Even the snacks in the room were healthy and super tasty. Dinner especially was amazing—everything felt satisfying and nourishing, light on the body but full of flavor and joy. I also loved the public bath. Day and night have totally different vibes—both super calming in their own way. This time I also tried some sound healing sessions like the valley echo ritual, crystal bowls, and gongs. I visited the gallery inside the hotel too. I really liked how they naturally blend art and sound healing into the whole experience. All the staff were super friendly and warm. You can really feel they care about your experience. Totally recommend coming here with someone important and making special memories together.

We purchased vouchers from an online travel booking platform for spa and lunch at the resort. We decided not to stay at the resort because the price is ridiculously high.|Both indoor and outdoor spa ( with steam room, sauna, jacuzzi) are good and clean. |Lunch is like fine dining with unique food and presentation. Food is good although pricey.|Staff are friendly and can converse English.|We are happy to relax and spend time there.|You can go to the resort at Xindian station by their private van ( TWD50 pp) or by public bas (TWD15 pp)

The hot spring place is quite old. I like the rest area at the hot spring, it has a really nice view. I couldn't stop admiring it. When I first introduced to the hot spring, the old lady staff only told me about the slipper change and the locker. I wouldn't even know where exactly the shower place and what facility do they have. I don't even know it has rest area at the hot spring, I found out the next day when I come in the morning. It's my first time there, the staff should've introduce everything to us, not just teach us about changing slipper and the locker thingy 😅. It's quite dissapointing to me. The room is spacious and you have your own onzen bath in the room with the view. The staff is friendly and they prepare a tiny 🐻 doll for me which is sooo lovely gesture 🫶🏻. But the dinner is so so only. Maybe they could've consider to change all the dinner menu.

Excellent services , food, spa. Everything you can ask for in service was provided with a smile. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and spa with hot springs were comforting. Don’t let some parts of the exterior building make you feel discomforting. The high humidity coupled with rain ages building prematurely. This is an excellent choice if you want luxury, high quality food and a comfortable stay.

The negatives: - Food & beverage was definitely not Relais & Chateaux level. It was good, but not at the price point this hotel charges for room & board. I also got severe food poisoning from the restaurant (I am almost certain it was the food here as it was the only place I ate for 24 hours prior to getting violently ill and nearly having to cancel my flight home.) -Only one restaurant staff person spoke English. One night I was provided with a menu in English so I at least knew what I was eating, but the second night I had no menu, nobody to communicate with, and no idea what was on my plate for 7+ courses. -Hospitality/service was also not what I would have expected for this expensive of a property. I walked around confused half of the time not knowing how to access the spa or onsen areas, or why there was a random lady with a singing bowl outside of my room, etc. Some of that is language barrier (I don't speak any Chinese, so that's on me). I also asked about local activities and hikes and was provided with a basic map and that's all. If you plan to do any activities in the area, you need to research and figure that out fully before you come. The positives: -The view for the river facing rooms is really beautiful and peaceful. -The spa services I did (massage and facial) were really fantastic and the spa treatment rooms are lovely. And at least compared to the USA, treatments were very affordable. -The public onsen facilities were great and, at least on my weekday stay, never crowded. There was an outdoor pool, two cold plunge pools, steam sauna, dry sauna, and two indoor hot pools, including one with jets. -The female server in the breakfast restaurant (I am forgetting her name) is really friendly and helpful. And I appreciated the welcome from Kobe at the front desk. -Bed was very comfortable. -Getting here from Taipei city was really easy, and I appreciated having the shuttle bus option. I would not stay again but would consider a day visit just for the fantastic spa and hot springs.

It was one of the best experience I had here while visiting Taiwan. I was not sure which Hotspring should I go for as there are multiple to choose from. Urai came into my list top, and it did not disappoint. Special appreciation to both Angel & Kuan Yu for making the whole experience here memorable one. The room is neat, clean & cozy. I would highly recommend the Grandview Bathhouse as it’s a private room with a scenic view. To get here is quite simple, just take the green line all the way to Xindian (last stop), and there’s a shuttle bus from the station to get here. Will be back again for sure !

A Truly One-of-a-Kind Experience Volando in Wulai is, without a doubt, one of the most thoughtfully designed and carefully curated resorts I’ve ever visited. The entire experience felt immersive and deeply enriching. The interior decor resembles an art gallery, featuring works by artists from across Taiwan—each piece a tribute to Wulai’s traditional, aboriginal, and evolving cultures. There is an exceptional attention to detail throughout the space, yet it never feels overwhelming. Instead, it maintains a sense of serenity and harmony with its surroundings. Among the many highlights are the installations by Master Wu, whose world-renowned brass gongs and sculptures are thoughtfully placed throughout the resort. During my stay, I had the privilege of witnessing a performance featuring traditional drumming and Tibetan singing bowls, held beside the river. The setting was magical—surrounded by zen-inspired architecture, the gentle presence of a nearby waterfall, and the sight of Master Wu’s house and workshop just across the water. The resonance of sound, space, and spirit created a feeling of profound balance and connection. The staff were exceptional—friendly, professional, and genuinely eager to share the story and spirit of Wulai. If you show even a hint of interest, they’ll gladly guide you on a tour that deepens your understanding of the culture and the land. Volando isn’t just a chic and upscale spa resort—it’s a cultural retreat, a sensory journey, and a heartfelt invitation into the soul of Taiwan.

We came for public hot spring bath on the weekday. We took the hotel shuttle bus at XiNDIAN MRT at 9:30am. 50 NT one way per person. They collect the shuttle fare at the hotel entrance. We bought the combo of public hot spring bath and lunch. It is 1850NT per person. They take credit card payment. You need to watch the time for the return shuttle bus. We did not take the 2:15pm shuttle so need to wait for the next one which was 4:15pm. Overall experience is good and we will come back next time.

Yelp
We had an amazing stay at the Volando for one night. We were excited to get some rest and relaxation after a busy few days in Taipei. There's a complimentary shuttle that picks you up from the closest MRT station to get to the hotel which makes the journey super simple. We booked a Grandview room which has a view of the river and it was gorgeous! All the rooms have a private hot springs tub in the bathroom but our room was perfect with a view of the water as well as the bridge. It felt truly magical. There's also a special soundtrack that plays for ultimate relaxation and you get a copy of the CD to bring home. We booked the package which includes afternoon tea, dinner, and breakfast. We loved the afternoon tea which we got to enjoy after our early check-in before heading to Wulai Old Street to explore. Dinner was good as well but leaning very western. They have a late night snack option of beef noodle soup or mushroom soup which is a nice touch as our hostess said using the hot springs works up an appetite. We used the public spa as well which has warm, hot and cold pools (with a warm pool outside), sauna, and steam room. It's Japanese style (nude and separated by gender) and super relaxing. Definitely recommend checking out the public area as well and they have day passes if you don't want to stay overnight. Overall an exceptional stay! The staff was so warm and accommodating and we'll definitely be back the next time we're in Taipei.

Yelp
Beautiful view of Wulai Falls. A respite from the sun. Handcrafted drinks and an owner who cares about his product . Perfect spot!

Yelp
Amazing experience. Love the view and atmosphere. There is an indoor and outdoor hot spring. The place is new and clean. Highly recommend. Easy place to find via public transportation.

Yelp
Having read great things about Volando Urai, I booked a guesthouse room for the spa a few weeks before coming to Taiwan. Somehow, I wrote the wrong date on my reservation form, but the staff were good about helping me get a new reservation booked over the phone. As soon as I stepped into the resort yesterday, I was immediately at peace. The light essential oil floating around the air, combined with flowing water and a beautiful view, make it a great place to get away from the noise of the street (not that the street in front of the resort is noisy, aside from the construction they were doing up the street from it yesterday). I booked a Suite room, which came with separate hot and cold tubs, a bed, and small bathroom. The hot tub was soooo relaxing. It was good to have the cold one, though, to ensure that I maintained a reasonable body temperature. There are also a few complimentary bottles of water in the room. The room itself is in need of some attention, which is why I cut one star. The walls were strangely dirty--there was a spot up from the wall where it looked like someone had taken a single swipe with a Mr. Clean and then given up. The bed was fine for a short nap. It would have also been nice if they cleaned the windows because the cloudiness interferes with your view. Upon leaving Wulai, I took the comfortable return shuttle, which is a steal at only NWT$50 (USD$1.50). That was soooo much better than taking the public bus (#849) up to Wulai, where I was jam packed between about 50 octogenarian local people. All in all, this was a great escape. Not quite a five-star experience, but definitely enjoyable.

Yelp
This is a very clean and luxurious place to come relax and get a mineral spa bath in Wulai district. I came here with my wife by car and it was about an hour drive from where I was staying in Taipei. This spring water spa resort is very peaceful and quiet, as soon as you enter the lobby you can smell soothing scented candles and a relaxing music. We came here for a day trip and decided to do a 1 hr spring spa private room which costed ~$40 USD It's a good price for getting a soothing experience. They offer more packages and deals but it is on the spendy side if you wanted to spend the night with 7 course meal ~$450. I did not encounter any long lines or rush since I came during off peak season and did not even need to make an appointment. But I can see why this place is popular and convenient. You can actually take a bus to be dropped off below the mountain and the resort had a shuttle to pick u up. I would give this place a 4.5 star just because the room I was in needed some improvement in cleaning the ceiling and the windows were dingy from the outside and I wouldn't mind the music being played in the room to be a bit . Overall a great place to come and soak in spring water, I would recommend coming to wulai and walk around the local shops and area to visit and then soak before heading back.

Yelp
Very high end hotel/spa. They really put in the effort to design and decorate the place. Very zen feeling~ The hotel is right on the river. The view is so gorgeous!! When you come in the hotel, totally in the vacation mood! The Service: WONDERFUL!! All the staffs are very professional and friendly. They take their time to introduce their hotel and their services. Great customer service!! The Spa: There is personal locker, lounge area, dressing room, steam room, sauna room, hot tub, cold tub, indoor tub & outdoor tub. You can have your own private room or public spa area. They offer different spa packages. The Restaurant: After the spa, we also try out their afternoon tea session. They have live entertainment. The food is very delicate, beautiful presentation. Maybe the portion is small & a little bit pricey but the experience is priceless. Have a cup of good tea right on the river. Life is good!!

Yelp
Great place to relax and unwind. Perfect weekend getaway. Highly recommended and here's why: 1.) Beautiful spa like hotel with view of the turquoise river right from the bedroom. 2.) Hot springs water running right into the big private tub in the bathroom. You can see the minerals and everything. That way, couples won't have to separate and go to the public bath places (not co-ed). 3.) Attentive staff. 4.) Most importantly, amazing food! Staying here includes 4 meals a day: breakfast (western or Chinese option), afternoon tea, dinner (multi-course French cuisine), and late night snack (congee or noodle soup). Everything was tasty. My favorite was the breakfast, which is Chinese-Japanese fusion. The late night congee was also high quality... abalone congee! 5.) Lots of things to do (for a couple days only). The old town (烏來老街) was a fun place to meander around while snacking during the day. They had the best mountain black pork sausage I've ever had in my life. Besides food, there's waterfalls, hikes, and lots of water attractions as well.

Yelp
Can I give Volando six stars, please? My husband and I went for just one night and that's the last time we make that mistake. We will most certainly stay longer next time to check out the town and enjoy the spa. This time, we just had the one night for our room and our fancy 7 course meal. The lobby and staff: wow, fabulous, perfect! Entering the lobby, you are greeted immediately with a beautiful mountain/river view and the aroma is amazing! The whole place smells like essential oils -- perfectly balanced. The staff check you in and ask you your dinner time and show you to your beautiful room. Our room was gorgeous! New scents greeted us! A canopy draped bed in a spacious, well-lit room.... a private hot tub spa and luxurious shower! We didn't want to leave our room! However, the reservation included dinner which was a 7-course meal exquisitely presented and deliciously prepared. When we returned to our room two hours later, our bed had been made for sleeping, lavender was on our pillows, candles were lit in our spa. Wow! What a relaxing stay and we didn't even use the spa! Next time we'll plan better and experience even more.

Yelp
Quite possibly one of the most memorable and well-rounded properties that I've ever been to! Just an hour outside of Taiwan, you feel far from any form of industrial civilization and such a dramatic landscape on an aqua colored river. The staff are incredibly well trained in professional, even in relation to three of the other Hot Springs properties that I visited through Eastern Taiwan like silks place, RSL, and Westin. Yes, this is approximately double the money, but you get what you pay for! Food was also terrific, I would recommend getting a room with the included a la carte overlooking the river. Lastly, don't miss their 'performances,' such a highlight, and won't ever forget seeing a unique show by the local aboriginal people. Epic property and a must visit!

Yelp
Got a package for a private hot spring room/2 afternoon tea...for only $1700 NT at lion travel..it is definitely worth it...the private hot spring room is nice b/c it has a great view of the mountain and it is really relaxing...the afternoon food is good but not filling for sure..but it is great snacks after 1 hour of hot spring.... you can reserve its shuttle from metro station to its resort for $50 NT one way..but we caught the bus which is right outside of the metro station for cheaper price..
