Highlights

Now open year round! Come by for a huge variety of homegrown and local food products ranging from veggies to meats to grocery. We now serve coffee and breakfast items from our bakery, delicious sandwiches from the deli, grab and go farm fresh dinner entrees and sides (all made from scratch daily in our kitchen), and hand scooped ice cream from Crescent Ridge dairy. Additionally we fill our beautiful glass greenhouse in the spring-summer-fall with a seemingly endless supply of annuals and perennials and we stock a huge selection of christmas trees come winter.

"This Needham farm boasts an extensive grow list — from bok choy to celery root to kohlrabi and beyond — and a deli serving soups, salads, and sandwiches. It also makes one of the best cider doughnuts in Greater Boston. And for those Bostonians who can’t make it too far outside of the city, Volante Farms cider doughnuts are available on weekends at Allandale Farm on the border of Brookline and Jamaica Plain." - Terrence Doyle, Adam H. The store itself is very welcoming and pretty. I heard rave reviews about the food but I was not impressed. The Boston cream cupcakes were a bit dry and had a negligible amount of cream inside for $17.oo (4) ! And the Italian sandwich had a very thin layer of meat, not satisfying.

Volante is one of my favorite places to shop for groceries or stop in for a sandwich!!! They literally have everything you're looking for, and the store is clean and well organized. I love their bakery and pastries, especially the cinnamon donuts 🤤🤤

I recently purchased pots and indoor plants and had the team plant everything for me—and I couldn't be happier with the experience. The selection is incredible, and the staff is outstanding. A special shoutout to Teri, Mike, Jacqui, and Beth—they are all wonderful. They took the time to really listen to what I was looking for, explained the different plant options, and made sure everything I chose was safe for my dog. Their patience, knowledge, and genuine love for what they do truly set them apart. I can’t thank them enough for their help. If you're looking for exceptional customer service and want to feel confident about your purchase, this is the place to go. And as a bonus, you're supporting a fantastic small business!

Volante Farms bursts with fresh, local food. The farmstand is getting in the first produce of the season now, and it is spectacular. You can see the fields from the shop. The fresh lettuce is amazing, pure color and flavor and crunch. For anyone who has had a vegetable garden you can tell that they are the masters, great choice of varieties and perfect production. Volante has lots of other goodies besides produce. The farmstand has a curated selection of local food, plus cheeses, fresh meat and entrees, frozen dishes and desserts, and a very fun bakery. The wine and beer selection has a focus on area and specialty producers, such as organic wines. There's a window for ice cream, and a deli with sandwiches made to order. Pleasant hospitality, too, with plenty of indoor seating, and outdoor seating under umbrellas. In the greenhouse here's a big selection of perennials, annuals, herbs, pots, mulch, planting soil, fertilizer and decorative plants. There is handicap accessible parking, and all areas are handicap accessible. There's a bathroom for patrons, too. Children are welcome. Vegetarians, vegans and gluten free shoppers will appreciate the carefully considered selection for them. Prices are in line with local merchants, and Volante is a great place to find treats like their vast selection of fresh apples from local growers. Short season and specialty produce, think fresh garlic, are priced for their scarcity, but sell out fast.

Most expensive Christmas trees for miles. They typically sell Balsam, Frasier, or Frasier-Balsam cross trees from a variety of out of state tree farms. Some years they have sourced trees from the Carolinas, others - like 2023 - from Canada. Trees this year range in price from $80 - $200. Most the 8-9 foot Frasier trees were about $130-$180. Netting a tree is an extra $2 and they have men who bring the tree to your vehicle and fasten it on with twine - so add in the $10+ tip for that as well. Their "barn" store has vegetables, baked goods, wine etc. The greenhouse has a variety of wreaths and pointsetta's. Also, the first weekend of December is the busiest with people nearly brawling for parking spaces. 5his isn't where you go for cute ambiance. There is t free drinks or food or fire pit or anything that rings "cute New England". Bottom line: expensive trees from a garden center if you live nearby and don't want to travel far and feel like Home Depot or other local places are too low-brow for you.

Google
Stopped by expecting a charming local experience, but it was a letdown. The cookies tasted burned & bland, like they had been sitting there forever. Deli was worse. My sandwich was slapped together carelessly with wilted lettuce & the kind of turkey that makes you question your life choices. Staff seemed annoyed we were even there, and the place wasn’t clean...sticky counters, bugs near the food. Definitely not worth the stop!!

Google
Incredibly fresh produce, warm just-baked breads, amazing lunch counter, homemade ice cream, and specialty foods. Fantastic greenhouse. Just... all a little pricey. Well worth the trip.

Google
Moderately useful garden store. ice-cream/market/deli. baby magnolias for $70/bushes and shrubs for $50/peonies $40/ most other plants $20

Yelp
This place has the best sandwiches in the world it's very nice and quiet witch is good great staff and I Wally's totally worth trying it

Ativ P.

Yelp
It's the best of the best in my opinion. Can't wait to go back for the egg Sando and fresh donuts. Gem in Wellesley

Aimee S.

Yelp
The man who is behind the deli counter everyday with the beard and he usually has painted fingernails is the rudest human being I've ever met. If you have any questions about anything he starts rolling his eyes and moving his hands in a "hurry up" motion. The workers here are usually great but this man gives the business a bad name. I've been here many times and every time the man behind the deli counter had an attitude about something and takes it out on the people ordering from him. Do better volante farms.

Jay M.

Yelp
Stopped in and tried a breakfast sandwich of bacon, cheese , egg on an everything bagel. Guy who took order looked like he was doing me a favor taking order? Low energy staff I see here ... all looked like motions to showing something? . New generation appears just checking boxes and assume just overseeing now. Sandwich with add on for bacon , cheese was 9 bucks and tax almost 10 bucks... holy Brandon inflation prices . I'll stick to the bagel shops as cheaper. 1 egg, 1 cheese slice, bacon awful and bacon had a burnt cooked yesterday taste ... not fresh as all and actually left a bad taste I burped up all day... bagel no flavor and as everything bagel ? I assume they just buy them from Bagel fresh shop in Needham heights . The new muffin pastry massive stand has many offerings but no prices listed so... how much each? The stand should display at angle for better marketing... no sneeze or plexiglass protection from flies, COVID sneezes... raised my hygiene germ sensitivity to alarmist levels.. I'll buy my breakfast items , pastries, doughnuts, etc at the French cafe in Needham center as displayed to market and protect hygiene... Panera bread has great breakfast sandwiches at lower price.

Yelp
First time here. All I had was a Italian sub/sandwich. Loaded with other meat, cheese, and a hard roll. With chipotle Mayo. Excellent. $~13. The coffee I had wasn't hot, but they brought out more

Grace L.

Yelp
Loved the decaf iced coffee! So smooth and bold! Butttt crazy expensive produce. Almost two dollars for a single lime! That's insane

Dan R.

Yelp
We didn't order one of their nine sandwiches or four salads. We didn't go to their farm stand store for produce, groceries, beer, wine, baked goods, meat, cheese, order catering, go to the deli. We didn't go to the Greenhouse for flowers or vegetable flats. We didn't go to the Garden Center for topsoil, garden tools or mulch. But we did go to their Ice Cream stand to sample a few of their over 30 flavors of Crescent Ridge Ice Cream. They have cones, dishes, Frappes, Banana Splits, and all of those familiar treats. I went for an unfamiliar flavor - Salted Caramel Pretzel, and it was a great choice. There is a lot to do and see and buy at Volante Farms. We saw a ton of families and kids there having a blast.

Isabella R.

Yelp
Adorable adorable place. Great cafe inside and awesome plant options. I could spend several paychecks here. Must visit in the summer to get an iced lemonade and walk around.

Alyson T.

Yelp
I absolutely love coming here to get fresh season produce, meat, fresh bread, donuts, flowers and so much more. The staff is always so helpful when trying to find something or even helping you pick out an item that you have a question on for a recipe.

Sujatha H.

Yelp
Reeves, who helped us with the Christmas tree, did such a great job. He was so helpful and patient and made the process a breeze. Picking a tree was so fun with the selection and the decoration options to purchase were so cute and unique!! Makes us want to do a squirrel, owl, or cardinal theme next year!! Great store, great farm, great workers

Benjamin H.

Yelp
Amazing store with high quality produce and free made food. Always friendly! Their homemade english muffins are my favorite.

Taya A.

Yelp
I took my 2 year old niece to Volante Farms on sunday for her first ice cream cone! The ice cream was so creamy. I had the coffee heath bar yogurt and she had vanilla. After we finished, we walked around the market which had such an amazing selection of locally grown produce, local meat, dairy, and many more unique grocery essentials. I bought some kombucha and fruit to bring home, as long as an absolutely delicious olive bread, and some baked goods for my boyfriend. Great visit!

Melanie G.

Yelp
Always something interesting to bring home from Volante! Beautiful flowers for the garden, delicious baked goods fresh produce, friendly staff... such a great place!

Winter B.

Yelp
Volante farms is a great local spot. It's a deli, cafe, and grocery store all in one. The deli is reliable and certain sandwiches are really good. They grow all their produce themselves so it is fresh and super high quality. Their ice cream stand is also very popular in the summer. They use crescent ridge. The prepared foods and bakery options are extensive. Although volante is pretty overpriced it is a fun place to get some high quality homemade food or fresh produce.

Rich P.

Yelp
Nice selection of unique plants that I've not seen af the larger garden shops. Cute store also with gourmet items.

Will L.

Yelp
Most overrated place in Needham. Paid $16 for three very small tacos with almost no meat in them. After spending over $50, between my wife and I, we are still hungry. Thankfully we were able to pickup garbage bags while we were here. The only plus of volante farms.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Stopped by for ice cream when the rest of the market was closed, so I can't speak to the rest of the market or greenhouse but the ice cream was spectacular! They had a wide variety of flavors and cones, so many toppings (sprinkles are free!), and even ice cream cookie sandwiches. This will definitely be our go-to ice cream spot from now on!

Crystal G.

Yelp
Amazing store, friendly employees, clean and quality foods! Pricier than a typical grocery store but that is to be expected and worth it.

Lauren M.

Yelp
My husband and I were extremely excited to try the freshly made sandwiches at the deli here, since our friends highly recommended them! But when we got up to the counter to order, the woman working there taking orders encouraged us to just get one of the premade sandwiches out of the cooler. We said we wanted to order there and didn't mind waiting, but she insisted, so we just took some out of the cooler - we didn't dislike our sandwiches, but we were really looking forward to having the ones from the deli! There was no one else in line at the time, and everyone else in the outdoor dining area had sandwiches that were freshly made from the deli. It was just a little odd! The store itself is very cute and has tons of options though, and we did purchase some delicious pesto, tomatoes, and mozzarella!

John A.

Yelp
Sandwiches are great. Baked goods are always delicious. Produce is the freshest in town

Laura S.

Yelp
I'm sorry but this is ridiculous, 8 dollars for a few (3 slices of turkey) what a major disappointment. Place is over rated. Take your money else where and get a bigger sandwich for 8 bucks!

Sam M.

Yelp
This place is actually a joke. I filled my cart with a bunch of nice produce and some wine and beer. I was asked to provide ID, so I handed over my drivers license. The checkout person then scrutinized it, bent it, checked the date and the back, held it up to the light, and scanned it. It scanned and all the information came up on the screen, she then turned to me and said with a straight face: "I'm sorry but I can't sell you this alcohol because you are under 30 years old and your ID is from California. It's a Volante family rule!" I asked if I should come back with my girlfriend's mother who is 60 and has a Mass ID and she informed me that "If anyone in the party is under 30 with an outside state ID, we won't sell the alcohol" I'm 27 years old and this is the first time I've been denied service because I live in a certain state. Nor have I ever heard of this insane rule bending to not sell alcohol. Not sure if this is legal, but definitely enough to make me question ever shopping here again.

John B.

Yelp
First visit, happy with haircut. Clean shop and parking nearby. I'll be back for my next haircut.

Al N.

Yelp
Having lived in Wellesley for a while and never gone here, I always said we should try to stop by if we were ever back in the area. Yesterday, we were driving by and also needed to grab food someplace, so we stopped in. A tattooed young lady behind the deli counter seemed to go out of her way to be rude and unwelcoming because we didn't know the ordering procedure. It was inappropriate and unkind. My daughter enjoyed the ice cream and our subs were average. There's no reason to go here with so many other options close by. It's a no for me.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Fresh veggies - whomever buys for the market knows what they are doing - in every category (pasta, spices, eggs, fish) the best brands.

John R.

Yelp
Great deli sandwiches. Selections for cold deli salads and drinks as well. Stopped here many a time when I was working on Needham area. Need a trip back soon!

Angel X.

Yelp
Superb Sandwiches Love the fact that you can drop into the same place you get your annual christmas tree or seasonal pumpkin and grab a quick sandwich with a friend or family member My favorite sandwiches are the prosciutto on baguette and the bbq chicken sandwich. While all of their sandwiches honestly hit the spot, I love these two because of how well packaged the flavors are on american classics. No matter the choice, bread selections here are on point and makes for an all around great experience. Dont forget to do some quality grocery shopping to support your local farm!

Alyssa W.

Yelp
I always appreciate a place that grows some of its ingredients. Volante's apple cider donuts are bomb - but you can't eat too many because SUGAR. Their other baked goods are decent as well. At the deli bar, they have breakfast and sandwiches. As much as I want to say that this place is amazing because it has avocados, prosciutto and unique packaged goodies, the food is really just okay. The breakfast sandwich with egg and avocado is tasty, but the bread is mediocre. AND it costs almost $10. I LOVE prosciutto and I finally got to try the prosciutto sandwich today. The prosciutto and mozzarella were good, but the baguette was hard and there was a spread of balsamic vinegar on the top and the bottom of the sandwich. I don't think that was listed in the menu, and I don't think I like it. The balsamic vinegar contradicts with the prosciutto and I can't fully enjoy the prosciutto. Also, the sandwich was $10.71... EXPENSIVE for what you get - 5 minutes away at the Linden Store, you can get the prosciutto sandwich for cheaper, tastier and more satisfactory.

Yelp
Volante Farms, and more importantly, SUSAN has made my family my business' life a Lil' but sunnier in these last days of summer. Coming back from the quarantine, my dragon plant (which, truth be told, was probably a bad fit from the beginning), was pretty much on its last legs. My Barbershop (www.BarberWalters.com) was in dire need of some new greenery. After a short search of BEST IN THE AREA, I was referred to Volante Farms by a friend on Nextdoor. After calling first, I was impressed by Susan's knowledgeable, yet humble, approach. Susan not only recommended me the best option for my lighting/temperature situation but she also opined which plant fit's the vibe my beautiful wife and I envisioned at the shop. Like I always say, hats off to good customer service and GREAT people!

Brandon K.

Yelp
Needham has an interesting and unique layout of grocery stores throughout the busy town (basically two Roche Bros', Trader Joe's, and here) . This place is the most different of all, way out on Central Avenue and most similar to Whole Foods. One thing that I do give kudos to is the garden center. Huge variety there, and with the lack of hardware stores in the area it could be very useful and convenient. Plenty of plants and a great variety at that. Honestly, I was not a huge fan. Everything seems overpriced, selection is minimal, and stock isn't huge. Was very organized and clean, but the store is entirely not my speed. Would be two stars, but the garden center is fabulous, bumping it up to three. This place could be perfect for the right person, so if you like quick stops with locally made products but a chance you may not be able to get everything, give it a try. 3 stars.... okay.

Maria M.

Yelp
This is a solid 3 star review! I have only been here a handful of times to try their ready made sandwiches, pies, and ready made dips (chicken buffalo dip). They were all very good. Their banh mi is good (not authentic by any means), but filling. I tried their caprese sandwich and it was really dry, and I wish there was pesto or some sort of dressing on it. The smokey buffalo chicken dip though is amazing, and I'd highly recommend. I think most other items, however, are grossly overpriced. I haven't tried the coffee, ice cream, or other pastries, and will update as we try more things!

Kate M.

Yelp
Used to go here for gluten free sandwiches and to shop. They made awesome GF grilled cheese and BLTs. Then they stopped all GF. No explanation. Just flat out refusal. They don't carry GF bread. Nor will they use yours. So now I avoid. Lola's in Natick is my new go to for GF. Amazing! The Linden Store too has great GF.

Gordon M.

Yelp
Volante Farms is a mix of deli, bakery, grocery store, liquor store, and garden store. I recommend them all. I love the roast turkey with chutney sandwich. The baked goods are awesome especially the doughnuts. And the plant selection is awesome. Stop in and be prepared to be impressed!

Marilyn C.

Yelp
Stupendously perfect apple cider donuts! What a treat with a great cup of coffee. Kudos to Volante Farms. A beautiful market with much to offer.

Andrew G.

Yelp
This place is absolutely horrible I went to get lunch and I sat there for 25 minutes waiting for my food not to mention I ordered a hit BBQ chick and bacon sandwich and they gave me ham and bacon COLD. Absolute garbage lady working the register was nice though

Roger B.

Yelp
This is really a farm! I ordered the Monkfish tacos which were amazing! I also picked up some fresh apple cider donuts to go. Three hours later the donuts still were perfectly coated and tasty. They have freshly made ice cream here and, of course, an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables. This is worth a visit!

Jeremy K.

Yelp
My office being just a stone's throw away from Volante Farm is a blessing, one that I take advantage of frequently. I go there for lunch and for random errands all of the time and always have a good experience. Volante is divided into two joint businesses. On one side is their deli which provides sandwiches, salads and baked goods to the masses and on the other is their farmstand which has all kinds of veggies, fruits, dairy products and various other items. I've been a fan of their produce and sandwiches however this place being in Needham, the prices are a tad higher than I would like. The quality is there however. There's never more than a 5-10 minute wait for the food and there's a few tables available both outside and in. There's also plenty of parking in their private lot although it does fill up during the lunch hour. This place has been in business for a hundred years and it's not due to luck. Their commitment to quality shows throughout and it makes it a worthwhile place to check out for lunch, groceries or a quick bite if in the area.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Beware the expensive apples. An incredible variety, but they are $3.99 a pound for Macouns. Really? $16 for 8 apples and not even organic for that price. I feel embarrassed that I paid that. Go out to Bolton or even to Whole Foods for cheaper local apples.

Dylon S.

Yelp
Great deli with delicious made to order sandwiches. While you wait, take a walk through the grocery store and find everything you need to make a delicious dinner later that night. There is even a little section stocked with great wine and local craft beer!

Olga K.

Yelp
They are racists! Do not buy from this farm! We had been buying food from this farm for many years, and liked this place until today. During today's visit we meet some new worker (did not see her before), and we have faced racism. Unbelievable!!! In modern USA!!! In democratic Boston!!! Be aware!!! My friend was not allowed to go to the farm to buy food for her family!!! The reason was "you are the party", we "allow only one person from the party to go to the store". But we were seeing couples and families in the store! We are the US citizens, both are hardworking national minorities' families; both have different families, live in different places, and buy different food. If my friend and I were speaking native language between each other, that does not mean we should be denied the store entrance... We are fluent in English (Master Degree from our home country + US college degree), tried to explain that we both could wait, could go one by one, or whatever resolution would work for us, that our end goal is that we both need to buy food for our families... unreasonably denied our request. My friend was driving for 40 minutes, while I was driving for 30 minutes to the farm and my friend left without buying food. Shocked and disappointed... That will be our last visit to this place. We are spreading word in our communities, do not by food from this place. Unbelievable! Hard to find words to express our feeling...

Michelle S.

Yelp
Such a cute local farm in a quiet suburban town! Was driving to Babson college when I saw this spot and decided to stop by. Their deli sandwiches are awesome! I loved their Volante and Italian sandwiches in baguette bread. They also a variety of homemade iced teas!

Needham G.

Yelp
Volante Farms is a great specialty market that also serves delicious sandwiches but the only thing holding them back from getting my fifth star is the poor chip selection. While they do have like 7 different types of Cape Cod chips, they lack other attractive options. Wish they would expand the selection a bit more to go with the great sandwiches.

Ryan P.

Yelp
Love the cafe, the grocery store and ice cream stand. Hidden gem for breakfast sandwiches.

pamela p.

Yelp
Did curbside pickup for cider and donuts. No signage once I arrived. Not good. Just got home and everyone was excited about the donuts. STONE COLD. In plastic bags. So never were warm. Frozen? Really? So disappointed.

Buddy A.

Yelp
Got the meatloaf prepared food tonight. Had rock stuff no chew stuff in it. $8.50 in the trash. One star is to much..but not more options. Used to go get the Itialian sandwich before they started to pack meat in plastic to throw into a roll. I like fresh for there prices.

Scott S.

Yelp
Needed help loading 6 bags of mulch and a hibiscus plant. The worker I asked for help went out of his way to be unpleasant and indifferent. The employee just threw the bags on the cart with many dangling off the side causing me more issues when trying to leave after paying. The cashier and other workers just stared. One of the workers even cringed as she watched how careless the guy loading the mulch was, but ended up not saying or doing anything. I had to redo his work anyway in the middle of the parking lot as the bags started to fall off. I wish I would have said something; I guess I was a bit surprised at how bold the workers were to be indifferent and callous towards helping a customer. Volante - I'll skip your farm from now on. I'd rather go local, but I will not give money to a business that does not want to treat every customer with courtesy.

Gus T.

Yelp
I buy the Speck from South Tyrol to save me a trip to Wegmann's, even though Volante's price is at the high end of what I have experienced. The cheese selection is mixed and not always fresh. The biggest disappointment is the beer - do yourself a favor and check the date. Do not buy if it does not have a date, or if the beer is older than a couple of weeks. Most craft brews do not age well, but I have seen beers as old as 6 months and more on Volante's shelves. I recently bought a NBPT IPA that was about 4 weeks old and was only borderline drinkable, certainly not great. I also dislike the practice of scanning your id into their system if you buy alcohol ("store policy"). Big-time privacy concerns. I recommend not allowing the clerk to handle your id and protesting this practice.

Phil C.

Yelp
Although it's smaller than Russo or Wilson Farms, Volante has a pretty set-up. I do like their nursery and garden selection. It's great to stroll around during the spring and summer. Their produce looks good, but as a heads up, they're rather pricey. I don't really eat donuts (my downfall will come from a different source), but Volante's cider donuts are very nice. They're crispy on the outside, while soft on the inside (warm if you catch it at the right time). Service hasn't exactly been thrilling, though I've only dealt with younger folk. Slam dunking change onto my hand and not providing any verbal pleasantries isn't going to motivate me to visit here.

Zak G.

Yelp
Worst Sandwich I have ever received at a Deli style place. Cold cuts were pre-prepared and prepped to go into bread. Meats and cheeses were glued together like one piece of meat. Very difficult to bite and chew, Nothing on an Italian but lettuce and tomatoes. No oil, onions, pickles. Every sub shop in Needham puts out a better sandwich than Volante Farms.Otherwise, a great store for many other items.

John S.

Yelp
I've been going there for ice cream until the COVID made it hard to wait in line etc. I went yesterday and asked for a large ice cream in a waffle cone. Had this from them many times .......... but not yesterday. The server said it must go in a cup with the cone on top. I was driving so a cup doesn't work. I asked why and was told it had something to do with COVID. Hmmmm ?? Really? Makes no sense. I've never seen anything like this before but, some of their store policies appear to good for them without regard to what's good for the customer. I left without the ice cream and won't bother them again. They need to put themselves in the customer's position before making dumb policies.
