"Set to reopen Friday, February 16 after temporarily shuttering last fall, the rebooted Don Chido is now called Volcano Rabbit. Named after a real animal — the world’s second-smallest rabbit which is native to Mexico — the restaurant from RMD Group (Rustic Root, Side Bar, Salvucci’s) has an all-new menu and bar program that positions it at as a fresh addition to the Gaslamp nightlife scene. Reimagined by local firm Ocio Design Group to resemble a traditional Mexican hacienda with both playful and elegant touches, the Fifth Avenue restaurant’s menu revolves around tacos from executive chef Andre Alto that range from chili-rubbed octopus to seared ahi, sticky beef short rib and blackened-lime shrimp. And each month, Volcano Rabbit will rotate in a deluxe special taco; priced at $20, the over-the-top options will include baked lobster with katafi, poached quail egg, citrus aioli and sturgeon caviar; sea scallop with arancini cake, lemon coulis, crispy yam and bacon pop rock; and beef cheek with brioche toast, foie gras, marrow butter and mascarpone sauce. There are larger entrees too, such as a shareable meat board piled with carne asada, carnitas, a duck leg and more. Bringing the party is menu of agave spirits menu that offers more than 175 selections from around the globe. Beyond craft cocktails, margarita variations and large-format drinks, the bar also has a bottle service program that includes a “mix-and-match” mini-bottle option which gives guests the choice of three mini spirits bottles from more than 30 options. And serious tequila collectors can even have their own tequila locker on-site, with memberships including discounted bottle pricing, Volcano Rabbit will also host DJs every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; a weekly Saturday party brunch will feature build-your-own ceviche stations and brunch bottle service." - Candice Woo

Walking through the gaslamp district ran into this restaurant, it looked like a nice place so we decided to go in. Service was good, friendly staff. Ordered a couple of drinks and some food. To us it seemed a little over priced. (4 tacos, 2 margaritas, 1 sangria, and chips = $100 w/ tip) I get the fact that real estate in downtown is pricy which reflects on the menu prices but food wasn’t up to par for our taste. I ordered short rib tacos which came with rice and beans. Tacos were ok (except for the part where I bit into a piece of dried/hard beef, to me it seemed like they reheated yesterdays leftover meat. The beans tasted straight out of a can. My wife’s ordered octopus tacos which they didn’t cook the tortilla on her tacos all the way through, tacos were breaking apart. Maybe we just had bad luck that day, try for yourself...

Do not park along 5th Ave on the weekend. They will tow your car. The salsa flight and the shrimp taquitos appetizers were yummy. Their burger was good but their fajitas were just okay. Cool place to people watch and super nice service. Turns into a club/lounge after 9pm.

Best guacamole I've had in a restaurant, and very generous serving size. Happy Hour prices are unbeatable, especially with all the expensive places on the street. Staff was friendly, atmosphere was colorful, awesome place to go in that area. The only thing that kind of stunk was you're not aloud to sit outside if you're doing happy hour, but I understand the rule. Inside decor was cool to look at, so it wasn't bad.

Why not go to Volcano Rabbit? Great question. The food and drinks are amazing! Started with a house margarita and chips and guacamole. Ended with 4 tacos on taco Tuesday. Amazing experience and the friends I brought will be back for more!

Chill place with good music and great food. Had the opportunity to check this place out after a long flight and it was great. The service was solid, the flight of margaritas were delicious, and the Carne Asada burrito was massive. Definitely worth a visit.

Went for a light dinner. The salsa trio was a bit funky, but both the carnitas and tuna tacos were awesome and the overall atmosphere was pleasant and unhurried. Special mention for the wait staff who were not only competent and willing to share advice, but were personable and even showed us some pet photos after we mentioned we were animal people. A wonderful experience!

Great food and pretty stellar prices for downtown! Half price apps during happy hour If you look at the picture of the nachos I uploaded, that for five bucks is awesome Best fajitas I've had in downtown and just an overall great time!
