On Saturday 6/7/2025 I ordered a Hawaiian pizza to go, the person taking the order was very short with me. when I arrived the young lady at the counter acted like I was bothering her. No greeting very curt. she had forgotten to put order in. no apology. While there was not greeted or spoken to by anyone. [THIS WAS WHEN FIRST OPEN SURE NOT SWAMPED]. In years pass I had ordered and eaten many pizza here. always great experience had not been here for 6 years. PIZZA was terrible, crust not done pineapple little chunks pizza looked liked it had been poured not made. VERY DISAPPOINTED

I grabbed a pizza for carryout. Nice size, good crust, and the toppings were fresh. The sauce was alright, as was the cheese. It was good, but I've had better.

Visited yesterday while staying in town for business. This is a gem of a local restaurant which I love. I ordered the pasta mostaccioli, meatballs and extra garlic bread. Food was amazingly great for the price and will take me two days to eat it all. Also comes with a fresh salad. Servers and staff super nice. $31.00 for all this food…Thank you for a great meal and see you next time!

Okay, first of all, the chicken alfredo tasted like vomit. Two of my other friends who ordered the same thing agreed. The salad was straight up lettuce with one slice of a cucumber and one tomato wedge. The younger waitress snarkily remarked that my chicken alfredo didn’t look like it had chicken in it when I asked. The chicken was at the bottom. The older lady was sweet and very good with refills. I did enjoy the loons on the chairs though. Also, the mens bathroom doesn't lock apparently

Lucked out at Lunch!!! During a recent trip to the area for business, I found myself in a quandary. Many of the Restaurants that my lunch crew and myself like to visit were closed on Mondays. We went all the way from New Carlyle to the airport looking for a place to eat. One of the people in my group suggested Volcano, an Italian-Style eatery close to the airport. Off we went and luckily it was open. When I arrived, I went back in time a few decades, as this place has that older feel to it. Simplistically decorated but fully functional. We were fortunate enough to catch the tail end of lunch and were able to get seated right away. Once I perused the menu, our server suggested the Italian Beef sandwich with fries. I also got a side of gravy. Since we didn't have a whole lot of time I was on point as the sandwich and the other items arrived fairly quickly. The Beef was tender and juicy, the bread fresh and all that gooey cheese made a very pleasant lunch. Give Volcano a shot, I will go back for dinner when I'm in the area again to try some other items, as it is known as a local favourite.

Had to come edit my original review. Since first trying them 3 years ago orders have always been made correctly. Friendly staff and good prices for the quality of food you are getting. Will definitely be ordering from here more often!

Google
Very friendly staff-patient for first timers, excellent food, warm, comfortable atmosphere, they have booths and tables, alcohol, lemonade, and Coke products. Generous toppings on the pizza and tastes amazing!! Definitely worth a little more and the drive!!

Loved it!! I was actually walking to get some Domino's Pizza while I'm stuck at the Airport Here in South Bend. I am glad I did. I ordered the Italian style Philly cheese steak. I Highly Highly recommend it. There's is by far the best I have had in the Nation.

Yelp
food and service is great. They are known for their pizza- for a good reason - it is incredible. I prefer spaghetti with marinara sauce- good old fashion Italian recipe for the sauce

Andrew H.

Yelp
Less than average cheese = less than average pizza. The people were polite. The tv was way too loud.

Yelp
A mom and pop Italian restaurant. Good food, good prices, good service. The inside is clean although a bit dated. Interesting memorabilia on the walls. Appears to be very popular with the older crowd of locals. Pizza is popular based on several tables around us ordering it. We ordered an Italian Beef sandwich and a Sausage sandwich. Food came out hot. First let me say, the rolls the sandwiches came on were amazing! Crispy crust and soft inside! I pulled pieces off and ate them with butter. Yummm! The sausage had caraway in it, which I love! Great flavor! The Italian Beef was good. The beef itself was okay. A little disappointing, but still enjoyed the sandwich overall. For sides we ordered fries and coleslaw. Fries were cooked crisp and perfect. Coleslaw was from a container, but still tasty. Service was quick. Server fixed a couple minor things quickly and checked on us several times. I think this is a great local place. You may have to go a few times to figure out your favorites, but there are some really good home made entrees here made with Italian love!

Yelp
Good food and service but as we left, I noticed a picture of former President Trump displayed in the vestibule. Seems inappropriate.

Yelp
We kept passing the Volcano restaurant on our way to Century Center for a MVPA military show convention. I said to my family I bet this is a good place to eat and was I right. The large supreme pizza was delicious and we had enough to really fill all three of us up. We also ordered the appetizer plate of fried zucchini, calamari, ravioli, and mozzarella sticks. The pizza was $26.00 and the appetizers were 11.95. The meal was a great deal for great meal and if we lived in this area we would be regular patrons!

Yelp
I live near this authentic Italian resturant. The food is always good and they have the best pizza around. The sandwiches and pasta is really good as well so cant go wrong. Must try...

Yelp
Fantastic, friendly, fun. Food was better than expected, prices were reasonable and amount of food sharable . Definitely returning when in town!

Kim Y.

Yelp
Was my favorite place for pizza but now the toppings are so skimpy! $30.00 for your pizza is not worth it! So disappointed!

Yelp
We stopped here on the way out of town as it's very close to the South Bend airport & it was recommended. This is a casual Italian restaurant that has decent food and generous portions. We ordered the cheese garlic bread which was ok, but definitely not necessary as our other food items came with bread. We also ordered the Volcano Portofino Salad, & the Italian Salad Supreme. They were both generously sized & very good. We also ordered their lasagna special, which was also a nice sized portion & was tasty. Finally, the service was fantastic. We had 2 waitresses, I assume one was on training, but they were a great team as we were served promptly & accurately. Even though we were slightly pressed for time, were in & out much more quickly than we expected. We will definitely visit again next time we're in town to check out more of their menu.

Yelp
A "Wait to be seared" restaurant, but you wouldn't know it from outside. I ordered the Chicago Beef sandwich with cheese. Endless, quick to top off Pepsi. The sandwich was a great portion of beef without any fat. The au jus was perfect. The fries were not so good and held back 5 stars.
google avatar

Lori R.

Yelp
Very disappointed! Order BAKED MOSTACCIOLI and it was not baked. It was undercooked pasta with bland sauce loaded with oregano, no cheese as it's supposed to be. Pizza was a little better than frozen grocery store brands and once again this was loaded with oregano. My fault for doing carry out, as you are stuck with sub par food, once you get home.

Yelp
This small family owned Italian restaurant is perfect for any occasion. The service is as great as you could ask for. The meatball sub was very good and everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. The pizza is fantastic but I haven't had that in about a year since I don't live here. The chefs salad was great and the ham/cheese special was enjoyed by a colleague as well. Overall, this is great for a quick lunch or dinner!
google avatar

Yelp
Don't take this lightly when I say this place has the best pizza in South Bend. I can't get over the thin crust and delicious pizza sauce. Volcano is so underrated. It has a great local atmosphere with friendly and attentive waitresses. The portion is huge, definitely enough for a second meal. The jalapeño poppers stuffed with cheese and paired with tomato sauce are worth checking out too. Will definitely be back to check out some of the many other entrees on the menu.

Yelp
My coworker jokingly said this looks like something from Kitchen Nightmares. Perhaps an unfair evaluation, but then again, perhaps. I tried their lasagna and it's hard to believe it is "Award winning" unless the award was for most mediocre. The noodles seemed underdone and the dish didn't pull together well, perhaps not enough meat sauce and ricotta cheese. The accompanying garlic bread was somewhat cool, not freshly cooked. The sample platter had 2-3 pieces of everything... a little lack luster. Some state troopers were there so probably an okay place, and we just got the raw end of inconsistent. Would not recommend though based on our experience. * The waitress was very friendly and was on top of keeping our drinks full... that kept this place at 3 stars... if service had been bad it would have been a 2 star experience.

Yelp
One size fits all pizza philosophy, we had a lot of oddly sliced tasty pizza to take home. Cheese is not oily, thin crust is not greasy, sauce has a smidgen of sweetness, pineapples, sausage and ham made for a good modification of a Hawaiian Pizza. Long time establishment in business since 1950.

Yelp
The food was good. The service was very nice. They are understaffed like every business these days. The reason for the low rating which 50 percent of people will agree with is they have FOX News turned up loud on TVs so you have no choice but to listen to the lies and craziness of Fox. I would not be happy having to watch tv while eating a nice meal regardless of the station. FOX is not acceptable to me and I would never return to this establishment for that reason alone. I think businesses should stay politically neutral to avoid alienating either side.

Yelp
Exceptional Italian food with excellent service. As soon as you enter the aroma from the kitchen tells you that you have stumbled onto a pod meal.

Kara B.

Yelp
Great pizza with lots of toppings. 2 fed a crew of 10. Both the mushroom onion and sausage, and the pepperoni were devoured. Only issue is the cutting of pieces and bit inconsistent and not all the way through which was tough without a knife.

David M.

Yelp
Had the Italian Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. My Spouse had the Grilled Chicken Salad and both were great! Service & atmosphere were great too... Recommend you give this restaurant a try... Well worth it!

David W.

Yelp
This is a great little Italian restaurant on the west side of SB within reach of US31. The service and food are VERY good. I had the lisagna and it was best I've had ..... baked cheeses and meat sause. Good vibe.

Yelp
the food is pretty good, but i can do without fox news being on all the time!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in for lunch and had the open face beef sandwich. The gravy tasted like it was out of a jar or can. The beef was pretty good but was most likely microwaved because it was slight cold in some areas. The place was full for lunch and I think I was the only person under the age 50 in there. I will say that the pizza smelled really good so I would suggest getting that if you come here.
google avatar

Yelp
Saw the sign "a pizza legend" on a business trip and had to try it. Decor is odd (duck hunting lodge meets Italian eatery), and it was clearly hurting for business. But the pizza was actually really good. Probably not the best I've had, but homemade, great crust, good sauce, really fresh toppings and the server was really nice. I'd go back again if I'm ever in the town. Very pleased.

Yelp
Volcano is one of those places you tend to forget about unless you happen to be driving out by the airport. It's probably been a good 7-8 years since I have been there, but a co-worker suggested it for lunch today. The place was full, but we were greeted warmly and seated right away. Our server immediately took our drink order while we looked over the menu. There is a large selection of Italian subs, salads and pastas. The menu says that their bakery bread is delivered fresh each day. I was originally thinking a salad - the Greek and Italian salads sounded great, but opted for the meatball sub. The sub was huge with three very tender, homemade meatballs. The sauce was fresh and tasted great. It was covered in melted mozarrella on a huge sub roll...definitely needed a fork and knife! It was also served with a side of fries, which made for a huge meal for just $7.50. My co-worked opted for the canneloni florentine special which came with a side salad for $7.98 (usually $12.75 according to the menu). I didn't try it, but it looked great and she enjoyed it. Service was great - attentive and friendly. I will definitely make plans to go back and try one of the salads next time.

Yelp
Salads were just okay. What disturbed our meal was an employee, possibly the owner, sitting two tables over and dropping f-bombs and curses.

Mary Ellen W.

Yelp
I got take out for a group this evening. We love the pizza. Service was great. They brought all eight pizza boxes out to my car. The zas were straight out of the oven. They were smoking. My car interior steamed up completely.
google avatar

S T.

Yelp
Love Volcano for just about anything on the menu. My favorite has to be the spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce is delicious, served with a nice salad and garlic toast. The pizza is the best around. Nick and Jerrod are so accommodating and so friendly.

Yelp
Wow! What a gem. I was staying at a hotel near the airport and all I saw was fast food. This place had a good rating on Yelp so I gave it a try. Special was lasagna which was delicious . While I was eating, many locals came in for take out pizza, so it must be a local favorite. If I am back in the area , I will eat there again.

Ricardo M.

Yelp
Wanted to go here for my birthday. Had heard good things and had never been there. Although I have lived here for nearly 50 years in town. Call ahead to make sure they were having in person dining. The girl told me they were closing kitchen in five minutes. It was 735 when I called. So not sure what their hours are during the week, But, closing the kitchen at 7:40 on a Thursday night seems strange, even during Covid restrictions. So I ended up going to a different Italian restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Sausage on there pizza is the best I have ever had! Pure quality. If you are looking for a sandwich they have the best Italian beef as well in my opinion. I haven't been disappointed with anything on the menu. Owners seem nice and good service every time I have been there.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
The food was okay I take it the waiter was not too fond of black people. Wasn't friendly to us at all as she was of other customers. We asked for more napkins she was very sarcastic and brought back 1 napkin for 2 people. She gave the vibe she didn't care for blacks. Will never give them my business again.

Jeff P.

Yelp
I really liked the pizza here. I agree with some of the other reviews that mentioned the interior was a bit dated but who cares when you can eat some delicious pizza. My only negative was that they only have 16" pizzas & I was visiting from out of town so there was no way I could eat the entire pizza or keep the leftovers overnight. Smaller sized pizzas would have enabled me to give it 5 stars.
google avatar

Dragon S.

Yelp
Great Italian food, sauce is homemade and can order family style. Also support the local police
google avatar

Andy W.

Yelp
OMG the homemade manicotti is amazing! Great service, good prices. Each dish is made-to-order, so takes a few minutes. But well with the wait!

Dale D.

Yelp
In my opinion, still the best pizza in town. i've been a customer for 20 years and never a complaint. You won't be sorry for sure.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
I love their different subs they have here. Pizza is good as well, but the subs are my favorite. They are a little pricier.
google avatar

Aijaz H.

Yelp
I stopped by this restaurant on a recent business trip to South Bend. This two star rating is not for the food (which was fine), it is for unfriendly service that I received. May be since they sensed I was from out of town they were not welcoming. I felt an uncomfortable vibe that I don't usually feel when visiting a Retaurant. An older waitress never checked back after the initial order. All in all if you are not a local guest I guess don't experience great service.
google avatar

Albert D.

Yelp
I went there for the first time last night around 6pm. Ordered a large pepperoni and sausage. It was delicious! On my way to our table I passed some people being served this big plate of lasagna covered in cheese. I need to try that now! Service was fast and friendly and the dining room was clean and well kept. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
google avatar

Shari T.

Yelp
Stopped on our way up from Florida, hidden gem! Worth the stop! Spaghetti and meatballs delicious! Sauce was so good and that is coming from an Italian. Just the right amount of spice, perfecto! Service was great, 15 minutes served a salad and dinner. Don't miss out, ya gotta go! My husband said don't forget how good the meatballs were.....ate 3!!! So good!
google avatar

Frank N.

Yelp
Maybe one of the best crusts I've had, super Service, good prices and fresh ingredients, I recommend it!
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
Don't order a salad with your dinner if you only want lettuce and a couple of chunks of tomato, very tasteless and boring. I had the chicken Alfredo, it was OK if you like your Alfredo sauce not homemade, it taste like it came from a can. My husband ordered their Wednesday special, spaghetti and meatball and it was very delicious. We may try again and order the pizza.
google avatar

Mairin W.

Yelp
I don't know how this place is so highly rated. It's a dive and it's dirty. The table we sat at was next to the window and the blinds were caked with dust and tiny dead gnats were around the window ledge. I can't imagine what the kitchen is like if they don't even clean the blinds. I had a grilled chicken salad and the lettuce looked like it was more than a week old. We also split the cheesy garlic bread. It was pretty typical- lots of cheese melted onto garlic bread with a tasteless marinara sauce. Maybe I should have gotten a pizza instead since that is what they're known for, but they should be able to serve decent food other than pizza if it's going to be on the menu. The dirtiness really put me off and I won't be going there again.
google avatar

Abbie J.

Yelp
Love this place! Everything is great!! I love the pizza! They have great prices, even on the drinks! It's small and cozy on the inside and has a great family atmosphere!

Jim S.

Yelp
The best sandwich in South Bend is the Italian Philly at Volcano. Excellent. The meatball is very good too. You don't have to drive to Chicago for a great Italian Beef anymore. Great sandwiches, pizza, pasta, service. Friendly waitresses. Nice atmosphere. Affordable abundant meals. Go there. Its great.

Cam D.

Yelp
Food was okay. Service was slow. Charged an extra $10 on the bill from what I wrote down. Since I was traveling I didn't see the charge until it was far too late.

Philip D.

Yelp
Above average Italian food. On the plus side, the pizza is excellent, heavy, but delicious. Lasagna is also solid. On the negative, it is pricey for standard Italian fare.
google avatar

Shalonda M.

Yelp
Great place with good food. Love the Chicken Parmesan and house salads They have great wine. Nice family atmosphere, kid friendly
