A Complete Guide to Austin Restaurants Featured in Movies and TV | Eater Austin

"In response to the successful 2010 zombie series The Walking Dead, AMC developed a spin-off prequel series in 2015 called Fear the Walking Dead. In season four of the zombie apocalypse horror drama, a group temporarily settles in a waterpark. The park is actually a full-service entertainment spot called Volente Beach and is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Travis. It’s open for takeout, curbside, dockside, and on-site services." - Marisa Mirabal

We went to this place one summer weekend and enjoyed yourself. The pirate ship kid pool was the best part for my little kids. They had a blast on the water slides and the floating alligator. The food from the restaurant was very good! I got the turkey sandwich and was amazed at how refreshing and delicious it was!! Highly recommend getting the food. You can order on your phone and they bring it to you. They don’t have straws since they are on a lake. The beach was more rocky than sand, that was disappointing and the parking lot was very very rocky and not smooth at all. My 2yr old fell and cut both knees in the parking lot. The nice ladies at the ticket booth gave her bandaids and alcohol wipes. I appreciate that, thank you!

Google
After living here for 10 years and being to every other waterpark in the area, we finally came here last week and loved it. All of the perks of being at a Waterpark but without the lines or crowds. The drinks and food being delivered from our phone was great. Plenty of seating options. Would return! Only thing I would recommend is adding a sign to the parking lot for where to go after parking. Was confusing for the first time. If you are in a large group, drop them at the front then park.

We arrived for the Jaws 50th Anniversary movie on the lake, but it was canceled. We drove all the way from Richmond, Texas, so they refunded us our movie tickets and gave us free entrance to the water park. Nice little place to cool off in the water. Staff was friendly and professional.

Google
We visited on a Saturday, and lucked out as the park wasn't too full and wait times for slides were pretty short. The lake level rised a lot so we were able to lounge by the lake and order some food direct to our beach chairs. Only negative thing to mention was the bowl slide, we got a bit bruised going down it as there's a little drop going from the slide to the bowl

We had such a fun time at Volente Beach during Toddler Time! The pirate pool was perfect for our little ones—safe, exciting, and just the right size. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food surprised us in the best way—delicious and served quickly. It was the perfect mix of fun and relaxation for our family. We’ll definitely be back!

We took our 3 year old to the princess event and she had the best time ever! Not only was it affordable we all had a blast. The childrens area was a little packed but it did not take away from the fun we all had. Meeting Elsa and Rapunzel was another highlight of our little princesses day. A big shout out to the man who gave us a ride back and forth to our parking! We will definitely all be going again for the next event!

I can’t believe we just now discovered Volente Beach Resort & Water Park. This place is an absolute hidden gem on Lake Travis! My wife and I stumbled upon it, and now it’s going to be a regular stop every time we’re near the lake. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuinely friendly staff who made us feel like family. The tasteful, upbeat music playing in that perfectly complements the breathtaking lake views. It honestly feels like a little slice of paradise. Delicious, fresh, and surprisingly well-priced for a lake view restaurant. The water park itself is the perfect size. It’s great for families, couples, or anyone just looking to cool off and have a great time. Whether you’re boating on Lake Travis, looking for a unique date night, or just want to escape the city for the day, do NOT overlook this place.

Google
Parking is a bit expensive, and the lot is not wheelchair friendly, but there was a shuttle that made things go smoothly anyway. The park itself is very kid friendly. Staff was friendly and attentive. The rides and pools were great! The steep hilly terrain makes using a wheelchair difficult, but they did the best they could to make things accessible. We had a great time, and would love to bring our group back again someday!

Yelp
The swimming area here is the cleanest I've found yet in/near Austin. At $20pp though, it's a bit steep just to go swimming. For $5 more you can do the slides. We bought the pass but the mats are low quality and don't necessarily stay put, so it was a lot less fun than tube-d slides at Schlitterbahn. The parking area is a little far and very rocky/hilly, and it sucks that it's an extra $7. That's true for the landscape there in general. There is no sand in front of the swimming area. It's rocky af and not somewhere you want to be without (water) shoes on. The swimming area backs right up on to where people dock their boats and where rentable party barges take off, so you may get some free entertainment by way of the music/DJs they have on those. The bar area is pretty neat because it's outdoors, has a full bar, and has an actual resort feel. The swimming pool is usually packed with kiddos and the slides aren't that great, but the bar and lake swimming area get high marks from me. Still, I was so impressed with how clear the water was, we decided to buy the $50pp season pass, because it pays for itself in two visits. On the way out, though, I saw you could get a second visit for $12.99pp if you paid for it while exiting from your first visit, so if you think you'll only come twice, keep that in mind.

Yelp
We've been invited on barges that leave this water park several times and each time we have been greeted by friendly staff. Great at giving directions for parking and the new pay machine at the entrance is easy to use and makes paying for parking easier. We need to spend the day at the park and not just using it for the barge.

Yelp
Extremely unprofessional owner. Very dismissive of concerns and safety for customers.

Yelp
We had so much fun, the view was breathtaking. It's a nice summer vacation. Me and my friends had the best time.
google avatar

Madison S.

Yelp
Super fun place for my family! Only taking one star because the water in the pools was pretty dirty.

Serena L.

Yelp
This place is very underwhelming. The pool water is very dirty which is even more disappointing since the lake has been so low this summer. I would wish the pool was taken better care of when the beach isn't really an option.

Chelsey V.

Yelp
Idk why this place has only 3 stars?! This place is a blasty blast! Maybe the price is a little too high..

Yelp
Do not fall for the way they make this place sound online. It is a run down dirty place. We went for "Jaws on the water" movie and each paid $45. They said they will not be selling as many tickets this year because of Covid and we would be social distancing, but we were packed in the water like sardines. They mention several bars and restaurants, but there was a food truck with gross hamburgers, a tent that 2 ladies had set up with fajita tacos and the 2 bars with lines a dozen people long all afternoon and 1 bartender. They told us to purchase armbands so once in water, a waiter would come by and get our drink order, however, we did not see not one waiter and we held our neon light up most of the movie, thus we were each left with around $22 worth of armbands. Once movie was over, hundreds of people and their tubes are rushing to get out and it's pitch black. They had no lights to turn on so we could see where we were walking. They are all about the $$$.

Yelp
"A boutique waterpark" is what the lady at the admissions booth called it... PERFECT!! Lol. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this place after reading the Yelp reviews and listening to the word-of-mouth reviews, which almost all seemed to be pretty discouraging, but I'm so glad we decided to go anyway! My fiance and I decided to visit on the 4th of July. Parking was decent; plenty of space, accessible, and within reasonable walking distance from the park. Figuring out where the actual entrance to this place was, was kind of a challenge though. There were no obvious signs that instructed interested patrons to "PURCHASE TICKETS HERE." Because of this, we accidentally entered through the restaurant and took the scenic route all around the park, before backtracking to the front where we were finally able to sign waivers, pay and put on wristbands-- that was annoying. We changed (no mirrors in the restrooms, ladies!! Ugh!), rented lockers, and took to the waterslides. Now folks, because this is a "boutique waterpark," you're not going to find the plethora of slides that you would find at a Schlitterbahn, for instance. No folks, you get 4 slides. They were entertaining enough, and no massive crowds or lines on a major holiday, so that was plus for sure! The really fun areas were the pool (lake water with some chlorination) and the beach. The beach area is small with a limited amount of beach chairs, but large enough to enjoy a nice float or swim with your family and friends (inner tubes provided). For the babies, there is a separate kiddie pool. Overall, I'd say this place is fun for all ages and an all around good time, as long as you're not trying to compare it to an average waterpark, because that it is not... it's a "boutique waterpark", people... lol!! Love that. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back.

Yelp
I dont know what is up with all the poor reviews. My family and I love this water park. It's perfect for my kids and I love that beachside Billy's is close with their awesome food and drinks. We come here all the time and especially enjoyed the July 4th firework show. The only thing I dislike is when you're trying to call the park to figure out if it's open and no one answers the phone so you drive there only to find out it's closed. They should have automated system telling you hours of operation along with days it's open since they have random off days.

Yelp
Only giving this place two stars because the ticket attendant and bartender were quite polite. It was a 45 minute drive for us and certainly not worth it. We just to came here for the beach, as this was going to be the first Beach my toddlers had been to. We just wanted to make Sandcastle's and play in the sand. We could not find the 'Beach' and upon asking we were told there is no beach this summer as the tide has not come in. *That SHOULD be stated on the website* The pirate ship was way to dangerous for my toddlers to play on so that only left us one option which was the other swimming pool. IMO It is not made for toddlers. It is super slippery around the pool area, very sharp and dangerous pool edges and the pool bottom was incredibly slimy. Also, there are so many inclines when walking anywhere and steep hillsides that just go straight down to a plummet with no fence or rope to (even somewhat) block it off.. so you have to 100% keep your small child with you at ALL times. I would ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend it here if you have small children.

A W.

Yelp
We had fun but there are only five rides. A lil kids play area and a crazy poool that was loud and full. It seems a bit outdated but ok for the price.

Yelp
What I love about Volente Beach is the lack of lines for slides and entry. You're not fighting over a spot on the beach or a picnic table. I also love the U shaped slide! Just thinking about it is thrilling! What I don't love about Volente is the lack of upkeep on the slides. One of my friends got a piece of the slide up his fingernail while riding it. They give you little yoga mats to prevent this but when you hold on to the mat, you're setting yourself up for some slide splinters. They didn't really offer any help with it either and just reminded him that he signed a waiver upon entry. I also don't love that the sand volleyball court has about 2-3 inches of sand over concrete with large and jagged rocks scattered throughout. Several of us walked away with bloody knees and elbows from learning about the lack of sand depth the hard way. It just seems that if someone put a little more care and attention into this place, it could be epic. Until then, it's kind of a death trap with bells and whistles.

Elena P.

Yelp
Dirty pool, not enough chairs to sit. The beach has rocks and full of sneaks: bring some sand. And they won't let use the mat for the pool. No towels.
google avatar

Lark L.

Yelp
This is a mellow family waterpark with a nice setting. 20/$ is high considering the size of park and the 7/$ parking rate seems silly.....especially on slow days or entry after 4pm. Check it out after 4pm for discounted entry...that's a more reasonable fee for what is offered. Staff is very friendly.
google avatar

Jennifer Q.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! I love that it's connected to the lake. It's perfect for a family day by the pool, grab a pizza at the restaurant and let the kids run around, riding the sides. Our new fav go to summer spots

Yelp
This place truly is fantastic. I am. It one to give many water parks a 5 Star. But this one was definitely worthy of that and more. Friendly staff, very clean and safety conscious. Weights for different slides truly didn't take longer than about four minutes and this is on a 95°F day in June when everyone in South Texas is trying to cool off. The restaurant is completely off the chain, and did I mention again how clean this place is? Last time I was at a waterpark and South Texas, there were more use diapers abandon on the water side then there were native plants decorating the banks. One will not find that at this location for certain.

Aj R.

Yelp
Oh brother this place is CHEEKS. Looks nothing like we saw online. From the bathwater they have in all 2 of the attractions to the subpar restaurant they have this place is 5 stars in terms of being underwhelming. Mediocre at best 1/10 would not recommend
google avatar

Kellie R.

Yelp
I was really disappointed that my family and I paid $75 for the 3 of us for a rocky "beach" a tiny pool and water slides. Plus they were allowing toooo many people in.
google avatar

Yelp
I spent the last weekend here with a group of friends and am still trying to wrap my head around how amazing it was. All staff members are cheerful, welcoming and accommodating, the restaurant is great, views are beautiful, park is fun and has something for everyone, and the convenience is unparalleled - everything is easily accessible. We rented out the lake house and I would highly recommend it. Very nice place, comfy beds, any kitchen gear you might need, large patio, TVs, etc. It is located just steps from the restaurant, convenience store (great prices), sand volleyball courts and the marina for boat rentals or chilling on the dock. Big shout out to Adam, who hung out with us quite a bit, Alex, Kara and all the other staff that made the weekend great. Keep up the good work.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere for the whole family ,staff was super friendly and owner came around to ensure everything was perfect for our day.

Yelp
Took my 2 teens and 1 elem for a end of summer fun day today. It's a little weathered but my kids loved it. Spent all day on the water slides and there are plenty of shady places for just hanging out and enjoying the lake breeze. However, be aware that some of the young adults who work there are charging more for some things then they should be and possibly pocketing the change. Example: at first my daughter didn't want to use the slides so she just got a beach pass (12.99). Halfway through the day she decided to upgrade to a water slide pass (19.99). When she went to pay her 8.00, they said it was 10.00. When I went to ask about it, the girl working started to say they only had one upgrade button, but smartly realized I wasn't going to buy it and said "I can just give you your $2 back?" I said yes, and she easily opened the cash register and gave me my money. Scammers? IDK, but it was kinda fishy. No pun intended

Darius L.

Yelp
Best park ever and one of the only if not the only park Where u can swim eat and have drinks in one spot, great food and many pools to choose from as well as the actual beach, , We always come here with our large group and everyone is so happy they can everything in one spot specially the food, there is ALSO a limo company called West Campus Limos that we always use that can bring you here also for only $10 per person in a LIMO
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
This is not your BIG water park! This is a small park with natural shade, a few slides, and lots of room to relax! We have been to the big parks and have to say we had more fun at the little park by the lake! The adults in my group played water volley ball, the kids spent all day on the slides! Restaurant and bar on site! All around a very nice little water park!!
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
The staff was very nice. The drinks at the bar, super. The pools use water from the lake. I believe that the park HAS made upgrades it was not as run down as previous reviews stated. The young lifeguards were also attentive (unlike other reviews have stated) they must have hired more responsible employees. We went in July. Bus loads of tiny campers unloaded right before we were going to spend a nice relaxing day at the park. I did not see any little ones take restroom breaks. I am convinced the water turned more yellow as the day progressed. (Do they use chlorine?) My older teenager would not go in the water. You may want to call and ask if any camps or day care centers are scheduled to go there the day you go. Ps: My husband warned me that the port a potty was disgusting, right when the park opened in the morning?! I think real little kids would like this park. Food: The 3 meat eaters in my family got sick from Beachside Billy burgers. I recommend the bean and cheese nachos. We almost left the restaurant because the employees were having a meeting at a table, and did not acknowledge us for a long time. The Slides...I was too afraid to try the skateboard ramp looking water slide because most adults almost touched the very top of the slide. There is one slide that the kids call 'the toilet bowl' because you end up in a part of the slide that looks like you get flushed down a toilet. My younger teenager hit his head on it. I had to sit up and push myself down 1/2 to 3/4 of the 'slow water slide' and I am an average size adult. Last but not least sanitation. The cloth covered lawn chairs...eeew. Stained and dirty. Bandaids and litter. I wanted to enjoy myself, maybe if we went at a different time? The most enjoyable part for me was going to the private beach and standing on the steps while little fish tickled my feet. I hope you have a better experience if you decide to go. Much love.
google avatar

Giovanna C.

Yelp
Great place but the parking ?? I mean come on now if I can't even bring my own drinks spending my money to get a drink I'm sure y'all could invest in better parking structures this is ridiculous............... other than that great place to chill with the family
google avatar

Yelp
The Ultimate Bachelor Party destination. The staff was very welcoming to our group despite never dealing with a group quite like us. We were proud to help set new beer sale records, while still being rather respectable. The water volleyball court could undergo some enhancements as there are some spacing concerns but overall net durability was solid. Water also seemed a bit low in the pool, but not a major concern. Food was amazing although it seemed like they were a little short staffed and young. I did not partake in the slides, but I've never seen some of my friends smile like that before. Transportation to and from was a little difficult, might need to consider a partnership with Uber in order to grow. I know a guy. Overall, great experience, add this to the list of best bachelor/bachelorette destinations in Austin.
google avatar

Shelby L.

Yelp
I've only been here for fireworks, but I thought this was a fun little beach park. It's small, quaint, and fun. It had just what we needed. The beer wasn't overpriced and everyone was super nice and helpful.
google avatar

Kimberly V.

Yelp
Such a great time! The only complaint was the bathroom was out of soap and toilet paper 1st thing upon arrival at opening. Other than that, park was clean, staff was courteous, and food was Fabulous! Low cost with high fun, will definitely be back...

Rachel K.

Yelp
Love the food, great experience, beautiful views!!!! Definitely will come back Chip trio was amazing !!
google avatar

Cassandra J.

Yelp
This place has amazing views , however the water park is very limited. If you get the pass that begins at 4pm , it is worth it. You only pay 12.99 and the little ones have a great time. Food at Billy's is decent and fairly priced. A lady lit up a cigarette and was asked to step out , but was not kicked out because we saw her later in the front of Billy's. This is a huge hazard as my daughter has asthma. Luckily we had her inhaler on hand. I asked them to open the door to air the place out for a minute and they complied , but never even apologized. Enjoy the water park later in the day , but don't eat there as they were also over serving people.
google avatar

Stacey S.

Yelp
Sorry to say this years firework event was a nightmare. Biggest problem is lack of signs. I spent 30 mins in line to get a soda only to find out they only sell it as a combo with bbq. Firework show seemed shorter then last year then to top it all off their parking tenants sent us down a dead end road after waiting so long to get out of the parking lot. Again could have been a sign set up to direct us back to main road. Last year was awesome but after this year I think the tradition stops here.
google avatar

Josh J.

Yelp
With the horrible reviews this place has, I felt like I needed to write a good one. The place is definitely not that bad. I think expectations just need to be changed. This isn't schliltterbahn. This isn't sea world. It's a small, local water park located on beautiful Lake Travis. You get some fun rides and slides, plus relaxing picnic areas, sand volleyball, and access to the lake. If you want a relaxing day by the lake, this is a great place to go. I've been going here since I was a kid and it's definitely with coming out every now and again!

Lisa D.

Yelp
This park really need to take all the old pictures off the website because it is so run down ... not to how clean it felt so slimy I was scared to stay in water so long .. Management was horrible !! We came along way to find out that it don't open because school started ??? Who's school ??? Anyway I do not recommend them until the do a full overall sterilization and do some major updating.
google avatar

Trisha A.

Yelp
We took the kids today and they LOVED it! It was very clean, easy for families and enjoyable with 4 kids. The restaurant made it very easy to enjoy lunch poolside while the kids played. The older kids loved the water slides and the pirate ship was perfect for the younger kids. We met the new owner and they've been working really hard to improve the property. It looks great and we'll definitely be back!!
google avatar

Gisele U.

Yelp
Nice little park. Went to one of the night concerts and had a lot of fun. Drinks a little high but not too bad. Everyone should experience this place at lest once in your life. The place only has like 4 rides or so it is not Schlitterbahn, it's more of a chill at the pool and beach place. I first went here on a groupon and has been a few time since then.
google avatar

Cole E.

Yelp
First off if you're expecting a huge water park like Schlitterbahn then do your research on the places then make your decision. I hate it when people give horrible reviews because their expectations were high and they didn't do their research. We obtained cheaper tickets off of Groupon so it made it worth or while. This small water park is great for what it is and the staff was real friendly. It's laid back with pools, slides and a lake beach. Cool part is the water for the park is from the lake itself so no chlorine. More geared towards smaller kids but still a chill place for an adult.
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
I've lived in the Austin area for about 6 years and I'd never heard of this place until I came across a Groupon. Of course I read the Yelp reviews and they were pretty horrible and I almost didn't get the Groupon but THEN I got a Groupon promo code for 50% off any Groupon so I couldn't pass that up. I had pretty low expectations for this place of the horrible reviews but I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised! I went with my 3 kids (ages 7-11) and they had an absolute blast! There's 4 slides, and two pool areas, a sandy beach area, and a dock with access to Lake Travis. Everything seemed well maintained and up to par (from my understanding they're under new ownership so the new owners must've turned the place around). Yes the water is murky but that's because it's lake water - just don't go in expecting crystal clear pool water. I personally, am not a fan of lake water in general however this water didn't bother me - it wasn't so murky that you couldn't see the bottom so it was fine by my standards. I loved that this place was very laid back and not super crowded. It allowed me to relax and actually enjoy myself because I was able to keep track of my kids better vs. constantly having to try and locate them in a sea of other kids like in some of the other jam packed water parks. Now - as mentioned earlier, I got discounted tickets so I would up only paying $42+$7 parking for my family of four and I think that I got my money's worth and that was a fair price. Now at their regular price I would've paid $69+$7 parking for my family of 4 and that would be a bit too much for me to pay to come here frequently so I do feel that they could make admission a bit more affordable.

Melanie F.

Yelp
We took our teenagers on a Saturday and had the BEST time!! It was a perfect sized water park! the food was excellent!!
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
My whole family loved this place we have 2 2 year olds. Great fun, food, music, and drinks. All the staff was awesome from my bartenders, to the life guards, and the gentleman that carted us from the parking lot to the spot. I never wrote reviews but everyone told us this place sucked and it was far from it.
google avatar

Kipp H.

Yelp
What a turnaround! The new owners have gone above and beyond in restoring Volente Beach Waterpark to a first rate, 5 star, family friendly destination. I would highly recommend a trip out to see the new and improved Volente Beach Waterpark. You won't regret it. Bravo.
google avatar

Maria K.

Yelp
If I could give a 0 star rating I would..I read the bad reviews yet thought I'd still see what it was all about. First thing is first $78 for 2 adults and 2 kids is ridiculous just flat out. Secondly I know they use lake water but it's completely dirty, you walk in the pool and your feet touch mud, sticks and who knows what else. Lastly the place is SO old and in such awful shape. The wooden stairs are on their very last leg, rusty nails poke out in spots which is completely unsafe since everyone I saw was barefoot. The waters slides are ROUGH, all of us have beat up bruised backs from these sub par water slides. We saw 2 other people who actually cut their elbow on the toilet bowl slide. All in all the other reviews were in fact correct this place is rough and not at all worth the price.
google avatar

Tim D.

Yelp
Way too expensive. It is a very small place with a couple of cool attractions. Park is not set up well but they have no choice since it is in a very bad location. I have been twice but wont go back. I can spend money other places and have a better time. Not a real waterpark. Poser.

Erin G.

Yelp
This place is great! Great food and drinks, I would recommend the chip trio, our favorite in the trio was the queso! It's also in a beautiful area in Austin, right next to the lake and a marina! Definitely would come back again!

Laura G.

Yelp
Wasn't impressed, especially not for $20. Feel like they should charge $12.99 everyday all day. And 5.99 for children. Wasn't worth my drive from South Austin, unfortunately I won't return.

Christopher L.

Yelp
I had a great time there today. The staff is very friendly and the facilities are extremely clean for a Waterpark. I would recommend this place to any friend I have.

Pam B.

Yelp
We expected it to be bigger and more beach, can not believe how much it cost and what you get. Will not return, it was a HUGE disappointment. Would not recommend, go to a real beach or water park.
google avatar

Lacey L.

Yelp
My daughters and I had so much fun there! It's nice to have a family waterpark so close by. Fair price for a lot of fun and memories!

Yelp
Just got back from our trip, and we really enjoyed it. We rented the pineapple bungalow. It was cute and chic and clean. It was perfect. The water park is just a very short walk across the street and made it really convenient for me and my six kids. We were able to come and go freely without any hassle. The park is small, but perfect. There's plenty of water rentals in the area to take advantage of, and the view is gorgeous. We will definitely be back next year! Plan ahead in the summer if you want to book a bungalow because they go fast.

Yelp
I was highly disappointed. Would not receive a star, but staff was friendly. It looked as if you were swimming in a construction zone with water. Stay away. Could be so much more.
