Great Places in Spokane to Eat and Drink

"About 10 years ago, Spokane’s craft cocktail landscape suddenly grew crowded with a number of new restaurants and bars offering bitters-infused beverages in garnished glassware. Volstead quickly pushed to the front of the herd to become Spokane’s premier cocktail lounge, creating unusual  flavors with quality liquor. This is the sort of spot where off-shift employees hang out researching and workshopping new recipes for the rotating menu, and customers get to reap the boozy benefits of friendly competition between bartenders." - Kris Kilduff

Solid cocktails every time. The bartenders are great at creating seasonal cocktails. I highly recommend you check them out during their Miracle Christmas popup! The entire place is absolutely decked out in decorations!

Google
Noah, Roman, Chad, Audrey, and Tyler are all amazing bartenders! If you want next level drinks and a great experience please go here. This is more than a bar it's an adventure. 💓

Really good place and drinks are absolutely amazing. Try Long Island Iced Tea its just really good. Free popcorn (just ask them to make without salt 😉)

Google
Very inventive cocktails! All top shelf whiskey/vodka/tequila. Great flavor combinations, or just order your favorite spirit straight up! Loved the prohibition themes. The service was great and the drinks were presented well.

Google
I’m not sure if the bar is going under or having some kind of money issues but I watched them over serve multiple people, letting them leave with keys in hand not asking how people are getting home… As a bar frequenter personally staying in check with the demeanor of you patrons is extremely important for any establishment that serves alcohol. I only say this as I have watched it happen multiple times over the few months. They have great drinks and their prices aren’t bad especially for the economy but seriously take better care of your patrons.

Google
This place is such a hidden gem. I have had some of the best, most unique cocktails in this city. The staff is lovely and you can order food from next door. They have construction outside but are still open and ready to serve you! Come support this small buisness!!!!

Google
What a fun adventure at the Miracle Pop up event at the Volstead Act! Over the top kitchy decor and fun drinks. It was pretty busy, but we found a table and enjoyed the fun. If u get a chance, it is only happening until the end of December.

Yelp
Went to check out the Christmas menu and theming and I loved it! Drinks were great, service was spectacular given how crowded it was, and the decor was awesome! I had two drinks, the Yippee Ki Yay Mother F****r! and the Christmasaurus, and while both were delicious, the Yippee Ki Yay was my favorite.

Yelp
5 stars because finally a bar that is happening in downtown Spokane, and even happening on a Monday night. She, especially 5 stars, because everybody seemed to be having a good time. Bar tender clearly knows his craft and somehow kept up. They didn't have much in the way of beer and cider, and their signature cocktails were a bit too over the top for me. But, I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Fun bar little bar. Great drinks, the two drinks I remember getting were The Drunks who stare at goats, Arnies palm tree and possibly I'm not salty you are. The bad also had board games available to play.
google avatar

Kat M.

Yelp
The drinks were phenomenal! I especially recommend anything with the tamarind in it. And the drinks are strong. I loved all the unique drinks and the bar tender was so nice explaining what each ingredient was as he made my drink. The decor was cool and it was very very clean. This is going to be a new spot for my friends and I!

Yelp
It was a Fun atmosphere and delicious drinks to enjoy - felt like we were in Hawaii. The bartender was a nice guy and it was fun to catch some of the original Point Break on the TV
google avatar

Yelp
Great seasonal drinks. Love that they mix up the menu ! Would love a seasonal menu but also a staple menu of house cocktails you can get year round . Would love to see more selection and more vodka based drinks available! Cocktauls are always great fresh and craft!

Yelp
This was the first bar I went to in Spokane and this was the best one by far. It's a cozy bar tucked away in downtown Spokane with some bar top seating and some long communal tables. There are some board games for people to play as well. My first drink was the gin rummy ($14) which is very much like a last word if you've ever had that. You can taste the green chartreuse and the lime and green apple are very refreshing. My second drink was the where the watermelon grows ($12) which is so refreshing and bright. It's tart from the lemon juice but even more so from the watermelon basil shrub which they make in-house. My third drink was the aperol of my rye ($12) which is as its name suggests: very aperol and rye forward. The last drink I had was the oaxacan on the moon ($12) which was smoky from the mezcal and herbaceous from the green chartreuse. From the ingredients in the cocktails I can see that this place is every forward and innovative in the craft cocktail scene. Noah, one of the amazing bartenders, was creating new cocktails for people to try during my time there and even had me taste one of them. Note that a non-cash payment means a 3.5% convenience fee. This place was so good that I came back again in the night which had a totally different vibe from the early evening. It was packed and more busy but I preferred the more chill and quiet vibe so I would go back when it's less busy and more intimate. This is such an awesome place!

Joey J.

Yelp
Small, intimate atmosphere. Very creative cocktail menu with the ability to have bartenders make you a drink if you give them some preferences on liquor, etc.. About $13-15 a drink. They also serve Miller high life which seemed to be a crown favorite.
google avatar

Windy F.

Yelp
We choose this bar because it's in Ceasars Rewards Market Restaurants. Earing $1 per 1 point for Ceasars Rewards. Noah is a really great bartender & he has good pouring technique. He recommended the house cocktails. The drinks were refreshing & tasty. A gin & tonic was $6.50 & house cocktails are $13 & up. There is an amazing liquor selection of some great top shelf & unique brands. They also have complimentary popcorn with different seasoning salts. Good location too. Would definitely come back to Volstead.

Yelp
Great place and a great atmosphere, owners are down to earth and phenomenal people. Really wish we lived in the state and we would be regulars.

Yelp
Man, I love this place. Some class and sophistication in a slightly steampunk way, here in Spokane! These dudes and gals know their business, and take pride in resuscitating and recreating classic cocktails. Parking can be a challenge, but we'll worth it.

Gretta M.

Yelp
Cool looking spot, the drinks are okayyy, but the service is horrible. Staff isn't very personable.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Came here after dinner at Wild Sage for more imbibing and was not disappointed. Sat at the bar but there was a mix of high and low tops near the windows too. Funny, attentive, and expert mixologists. We asked for the 'snaquiri', which is dealer's choice, and were given a tomatillo-cilantro-celery take on a Bloody Mary, which was ::bloody:: excellent. They had what looked like free popcorn with all sorts of flavor choices but I was stuffed. Also, super into their TV show of choice, 'Firefly'
google avatar

Jessica Y.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! If you are looking for a delicious craft cocktail, this is the place to go. They use fresh ingredients and have a menu of signature cocktails created by the mixologists there. They'll do traditional cocktails as well except 100x's better. My boyfriend loves Moscow Mules and the one he had there was the best he's ever had, same with the margarita I ordered absolutely delicious, really fresh and vibrant.

Mark Lee G.

Yelp
It is a very small bar. Saturday 5pm only one waitress and a bartender. Packed. December 16th Front door opens below freezing wind blows in--depends where you're sitting. Small glass of margerita $8.00 They had run out of most of their beer, but tried to accomodate.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been in Spokane 24 hours and I love it here. If you love cocktails and bartenders who love their craft, this is the place. I would rate this as one on the best in the west.
google avatar

Trevor T.

Yelp
Drinks were good. Bartender unfriendly. She acted like I was inconveniencing her the entire visit. And this is not the first time this has happened. I get an attitude every time I've been there. I'm baffled why I continue to give this place repeated chances. I think I finally learned my lesson.

Nancy D.

Yelp
Excellent, I had a problem with my first drink they took the initiative to taste the ingredients and agreed. Made me another without any fuss. Thank you! Saw so many cool drinks coming from the bartender. Excellent spot!!

juliette s.

Yelp
Asked for a great warm drink and bartender delivered! Thanks for a nice warm drink in a cold and dreary day!
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
What a cool low-key bar. I came here while visiting from out of town and had such a fun relaxing night grabbing drinks and playing card games. I was uber impressed by the bartender working named Noah. He was the only one working on a crammed night, and come to find out it was only his third day! Noah was composed, quick, and made each drink with care- they looked gorgeous! Great vibes and good drinks for a place to meet with friends :) Would maybe consider hiring a second person for how busy it got on a Thursday night
google avatar

Kendra G.

Yelp
Great little place for craft cocktails, and a game of Scrabble. Will be back on our next visit to Spokane.
google avatar

Angela T.

Yelp
If you love cocktails, you must come here! The atmosphere is perfect - small with cool decor and a fully decked out bar. Every drink we tried was top notch, and the bartenders were very nice. They also have free popcorn with flavorings, which was perfect for a snack. The location is also great - right in the heart of downtown and an easy 15 min walk from Kendall Yards. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Dennis F.

Yelp
Noah is a true artist not just a hell of craft bartender. I've been in the service industry for over 15 years and I understand the creativity, dedication, and knowledge it takes to make the cocktails that he creates. Keep it up man! Definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
The staff and cocktails at this bar are amazing! I'm always on the look for great bars that offer great service and innovating cocktail. Since I moved, this has been one of my go to bars, plus the whiskey selection is great!
google avatar

Catherine C.

Yelp
The first bar I went to after moving to Spokane and still my first choice a year later. I think the seasonal drink menu is such a unique thing Volstead does, offering patrons a twist on some classic drinks. Their cocktail menu also reflects the skill and creativity of their bar tenders/mixologists. The space is small but welcoming and filled with personality. The only down side about volstead for me is that the drinks are a little pricey but well worth it if you want a truly one of a kind experience.
google avatar

Ricky C.

Yelp
Came here on a suggestion from another bartender, he said it was the local hang out for the industry folk. This bar did not disappoint. The old fashions were delicious. The bar manager was great, me and my buddy chatted with him all night about different whiskeys and tequilas. He gave a few tastings on the house. If you're in town make this one of your stops.
google avatar

Chanele R.

Yelp
This is such a cool little bar tucked away downtown. They have a nice menu of variety cocktails. I went with a classic (off menu) and had a fabulous Manhattan. They pour well, and as a law nerd, I love the nod to the act that gave us Prohibition!
google avatar

Steven R.

Yelp
Showed up at 10:01, never was acknowledged and at 10:31 I left. Six other people left during this time. Service during this time was awful. Live blocks from this place and will never return and will make it a point to ensure no one else does. The management of this place must be terrible if they cannot fix this Came back. Gave it another chance. Even WORSE. I asked for another drink at 9:52. At 10:12 I asked a third time for a drink. The bartender sucks. This place is the shittiest service in all of Spokane. The bartender sucks at Durkins on weekends and worse here during the week. Stay away from here as it sucks. Give up on this on place as you'll be disappointed.

Kathy T.

Yelp
The bartender Noah is so passionate and knowledgeable of all types of alcohol and brands. Exceptional service from him. He created Danger is my middle name which is so yummy. Great for any drinker! Popcorn was a plus!!!
google avatar

Tia M.

Yelp
Omg this place is a gem! First off We had JAKE as a bartender and he was above and beyond. The other bartender spent most of the night on his phone so our drinks did take some time Ttell make! We totally went with Jakes creations which I still don't even know but every single one was so good and every drop was consumed lol!!! Tell him what you like and he won't disappoint. First time ever drinking an egg white in a drink but heY it was so good! We've been telling all of our out of town friends about this spot! It's definitely a place we will be returning to very often! Jake don't ever leave lol your drinks are spot on!
google avatar

Cody M.

Yelp
Edit: a few weeks after making my original post the owner had changed the floors behind the bar which was causing the smell. Impressed by the speed this got handled and my wife and I can fully enjoy the environment without feeling like being back in Afghanistan. The service was amazing. CJ was an excellent bartender and made some amazing cocktails. The patronage, music, and decor gave it a good home feeling. My only complaint is the smell of the location. It was like a sewage/bathroom smell that reminded me of being on a deployment again. If they could fix this it would quickly become my wife and myself's new go-to place.
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
Jake and Rachel were the VERY BEST! We were visiting from San Diego and everyone we met told us to visit Volstead and I'm so glad I did. Best customer service and the drinks were off the charts! If your in Spokane you MUST GO!
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
We had unique cocktails and great service when visiting Volstead Act. We sat outside on a lovely summer evening but the inside is dark and pays homage to the prohibition era with fun decor. We had a fun time and would recommend for pre-dinner drinks while in Spokane!
google avatar

Jordan M.

Yelp
Amazing environment, great drinks. Had several of their cocktails, Well balanced drinks, strong but not overpowering. Had a great whiskey sour, made with egg like it should. And I can't remember the other, great selections of liquor, and a great environment.

Nicole L.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing bar and ask for Noah! We are well traveled and he is one of THE best mixologists we've had the pleasure of coming across! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
I cozied up at this place with one of Spokane's best Yelp Elite Squad Members. Her taste is superb, cause this place was amazing. Clever name there: The National Prohibition Act was known informally as the Volstead Act. They've got San Diego ties within the staff too - so that's a win for me. The drinks are truly elevated and although NOT elevated, the popcorn machine onsite makes it a must. They've got a whole stock of those cheesy powders too! Don't judge me. I don't know what the atmosphere is like after 7pm but for my happy hour meet up during the week it was quiet, charming and I was served promptly by a fellow redhead. I don't give all gingers 5-stars.... oh wait. I do. There seemed to be games sitting around to play with your pals and in general, a very welcoming vibe. Bravo Spokane. My mind's been changed about this city on my last few visits - mostly from fellow Yelpers showing off how awesome things have gotten, but also from legit businesses like this doing it up right.

Yelp
Couple pages of cocktails, a few wines and beers, so there's something for everyone. The focus is obviously cocktails, and I was impressed by the list. So many to try! I would say my AP24 wasn't as complex as I thought it might have been, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. My friend really liked her 24 karats too. The staff is chill and the bar was cute. We were there for happy hour so there were only a few other patrons and there wasn't much of an atmosphere, but I'd definitely go back!
google avatar

Mackenzie O.

Yelp
Came with a few friends after dinner and was extremely pleased! Kendra, the bartender, was phenomenal. She offered up samples, gave great suggestions and made one of the best Moscow mules I've ever had! Worth the $!
google avatar

Stephen H.

Yelp
Supercool trendy craft cocktail spot in downtown Spokane. The vibe is chill and the drinks are interesting. The bartenders are welcoming and happy to discuss a cocktail with you and find a drink that meets your tastes. I settled on the Al Capone and wasn't disappointed by its citrusy blend with rye whiskey. Kat choose the Lilac City which was a mix of rum with pineapple and a few other flavors. She was a bit disappointed and the drink seemed to be a bit boring with the rum overpowered by all the other ingredients, with nothing standing out. Still, given the atmosphere and the selection of drinks, I'm sure we'll be back to give the section another shot.
google avatar

Leslie J.

Yelp
This place rocks!! Great drinks and happy hour is crazy good!! Awesome decor and the bartenders make the best drinks!

Yelp
Cocktails are worthy of 5 stars and I feel bad for docking a star but this place is SERIOUSLY wayyy too nice to have stupid frat wanna be grandpas hanging around being loud obnoxious drunks. Seriously, place is classy but comfy and the drinks are on point, but the whole night there was this older dude there, piss drunk and being super loud, cussing and talking trash. I was there with my husband for our 3rd anniversary, first day in 2 years without our kids, were in our late 20s and ready to spend some SERIOUS money on some good drinks and a nice time, but this guy made it impossible. At one point, his friends all went to the bathroom and left him alone and he was eavesdropping on our convo, I had asked my husband if he wanted to go home and sleep after we were done or go somewhere else (he looked pretty beat), and this jerk has the nerve to butt in and yell "He'll no, he wants to go home and F**k!" Then smashed hubby for a highfive and my husband was so embarrassed and uncomfortable and the guy is like "c'mon! Coommmeeee ooonnn!" Super awkward and ruined our nice evening. The bartenders didn't do a thing to ask him to leave other patrons alone, or keep his voice down to a dull roar. Super frustrating but still think the business itself deserves a good rating.

Brian C.

Yelp
Great cocktails. Stopped in here while we waited for our dining reservations down the street.

Yelp
If you enjoy your craft cocktails with a side of truffle popcorn and friendly bartender banter, put Volstead on your list. The cocktail menu is long and luscious, but even more fun is telling the bartender your palate preferences and letting them whip something up for you. Not many bars have the patience for this back & forth, but Volstead Act seems to pride itself on the virtue. While staying at Hotel Lusso across the street, I wandered over here for a nightcap, and had the place all to myself (it was midnight on a Tuesday, but they were open til 2am as promised!) Bartender Avont, who seems to have a local following among Spokane cocktail lovers, became my best friend, chatting with me about drink recipes, sharing his favorite Spokane spots, and offering to make me a fresh batch of that truffle popcorn. I told him one of my favorite cocktails is The Last Word, so he made me his version of it (Her Last Word), served of course in a dainty coupe with lime peel garnish. Deeeelightful. While most places in Spokane boast friendly service, I felt especially and instantly like a local here. Not to mention, they know their way around a cocktail shaker. Will be back every chance I get!
google avatar

Bobb D.

Yelp
The Volstead Act is a small, intimate craft cocktail bar with seating for a few dozen. I have enjoyed a handful of visits here with friends and have also enjoyed a cocktail or two here when out on my own. This is the kind of place where you don't feel out of place when you are by yourself, which is quite a nice attribute. I have really enjoyed their pisco sours, which had been until the opening of the Volstead Act, only a treat that I could imbibe when in the company of my Chilean Entourage. The Ambidextrous and other highlights on their specialty menu are all worth trying. Peanuts and freshly popped popcorn also abound in this place which is great for the late night cravings... The lounge area features two large high top tables that could easily accommodate 8-12 guests a piece. There are a handful of smaller tables and around a half dozen stools at the bar for smaller groups. This is the type of place that you need to support in order to help continue to build a vibrant cultured downtown ambiance...
google avatar

Ivan R.

Yelp
I'm here tonight. It literally smells like here. Someone needs to take sanitary action around here.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
I have been waiting to update my review for a while now, having been in several times in the last month... I really want to like this place but sadly I won't be back again as I am tired of giving the place a chance. The drinks are good don't get me wrong, but the service is terrible for the price you are paying. 8-15$ a cocktail it better be smooth ordering, minimal wait. It never is, they are SLOW and it takes sometimes 15 minutes to even order one. Don't you dare ask for something different. They once were a pioneer in the cocktail scene downtown, however those days are gone! We now have PLENTY of other new places that specialize in craft cocktails now to even bother coming here. By the way, what type of establishment has ONE bartender on duty new years eve?? It's the biggest night of the year!!!!
google avatar

Theresa M.

Yelp
Listen up scoflaws! Here is a tip on the side brought to you by a real bearcat about a speakeasy that is just the berries! blouse your house, bust out your muzuma and ankle on down to the volstead act for your Jorum of skee, gigglewater,or panther piss ;). Inside a Dapper gent stands behind the stick, prepared to mix. Drink up! and now your on the trolley! Seriously though, this is probably my new favorite cocktail bar and definitely worth checking out. The staff is creative and stupendously knowledgeable about cocktails. And as you can tell I am really digging the throwback style.
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
Drinks were delicious! You don't realize how much you're drinking because the drinks are awesome. A bit of a hipster place but the service was on point. Poor bartender was all alone and it was packed. Awesome drink selection.
