Came to Voulas at the recommendation of my cousin who is from Seattle. Knowing nothing about it (haven't seen the episode of Fieri's Triple D yet), it was a pleasant surprise.
Tucked away in a very nondescript grey area (then again, most of Seattle is this hue) the U district, under the freeway, I don't think anyone would just "run into" this place. Supposedly a local favorite from a long time back, and now I can imagine lots of tourists (thanks to Guy Fieri), it was surprisingly not crowded when we arrived, during brunch hour.
Seated right away, the first thing I noticed was the old school dIner feel. I like traditional grease joints like this- it usually means they've been doing something good for a very long time, and haven't needed or wanted to change anything.
Menu was a nice breakfast selection, with the standards- as well as specialties. I ordered from "Guy Fieri's choices", not because I care what he ate, but it looked to be the most interested and appealing of the options.
I love Greek food, and I don't get it where I live- and I've never had a breakfast with a Greek twist- so the Greek Hobo it was for me. Basically its hash browns and eggs, mixed with onions, mushrooms, Greek sausage and feta cheese. LOTS of it. It was a hefty sized plate, and sadly I was so full from it, I didn't get to try any of their pie, which they are supposedly known for.
The Greek Hobo was good, I enjoyed everything about it, and albeit a bit pricey for breakfast ($14.50), it was huge, and could easily be shared amongst two people.
The others I was with has biscuits and gravy (delicious. Is there such thing as bad biscuits and gravy?), and the Smokey the salmon (not that great).
Service was busy, but good. Coffee was refilled when need be, and everyone was friendly.
I would definitely come back again, and next time, I'll save room for pie.
