This place makes the best baklava I have ever had in my life. Although I am not Middle Eastern, I lived most of my life in the Chicago area amongst many Greeks! So I consider myself a baklava connoisseur. They do the most beautiful cakes, and are so accommodating and flexible with preparing orders on the spur of the moment.

Vrej Pastry is a gem in Pasadena, owned by a wonderful Lebanese couple who came to the U.S. to pursue the American dream. Vrej, who comes from a family of bakers, has brought his passion and expertise to create an array of delicious Armenian and Middle Eastern pastries. Come for their Dubai Chocolate cake that is one of the best cakes ever! Stuff your box with all their other wonderful delicious bakery items such as napoleons, eclairs, pastries, cakes, baklava, Armenian treats and lots of different cookies! Super friendly woman owned who will explain the so many different specialty middle eastern/amenian sweets and bakery items that they have! Coffee too! This is one of the best bakeries in the San gabriel valley and has been here for decades! Hidden gem!

Vrej Pastry is a Mediterranean bakery owned by a very lovely family. There are a variety of pastries, cakes, baklava, cookies, and they even have Ashti ice cream (IYKYK)!!! I tried the Cigar Roll, Tiramisu, and a Baklava. All were delicious!! The Baklava was flaky and layered perfectly, loaded with chopped pistachios drizzled w honey syrup. The Cigar Roll had rich dark chocolate with lucious cream inside. The tiramisu was delicious and creamy and had the perfect balance in texture and taste of cocoa powder & espresso. I didn't get a chance to get Ashti ice cream this time, but if you know about this ice cream, it's delicious!! Definitely coming back to try other pastries.

Baklavas are more expensive than others! And the fillings of pistachios or cashews are little compared to others, more dough than nuts.

I bought tiramisu cake from Vrej pastry on 10/19/25 it was from show case paid 50.00 $ was rotten and soggy , I was invited to a party i throw whole cake to trash been never recommend this place thieves. May be three four days old Not even one star

No stars . It's my second disappointment today Will never visit this location again . Last minute they didn't deliver my order as they promised .

I feel the current average of 3.5 (5/4/22) accurately describes my experience here. I discovered this place over 8 years ago and what really stood out was their honey cake. That had me going back often, though some days, they didn't even have it. Recently l was a block away and decided to drop in again. Vrej Pastry is like an ethnic dessert shop. The interior is clean and their display cases are full of pastries and cakes. Some items are familiar, like the Napoleon or baklava. Some, I had to ask what they were. After scoping out the display case, I got a few slices of honey cake and caramel cake. The honey cake looks and tastes very different from what I remembered it to be, which resembled corn bread with a noticeable honey flavor. Now, it has the appearance of a layered chocolate cake with a subtle honey flavor. The caramel cake was a bit better, but also heavy and creamy, like the honey cake, and both were too sweet and creamy for my palate. Vrej does offer a lot of varieties, and if you have a sweet tooth, this is definitely a place worth visiting. But for me, I can't eat much of something that's very sweet and full of cream, and I'll still be on the hunt for that old honey cake I miss so much.

[尋味LA II]中東店麵包夾起司 浸糖漿甜香且濃郁 那是在疫情嚴重的時候，加州所有的飯店衹允許外賣，於是我看到了一個長着满臉大鬍子的高胖男人，很開心地在停車場喫着一團用紙包着的東西，他實在喫得太開心了，一把年紀却綻放着灿爛的笑容，讓好奇的心很想問個究竟。 因為我是和他从同一家店出來的，我的車停在路邊，他的車在停車場，我就坐在路邊的駕駛座上看着停車廠裡的他倚在自己的皮卡上一口一口地喫着紙包裡的東西。問題是：那家店是個猶太蛋糕房，售賣象是拿破侖、提拉米蘇之類的小蛋糕和各種甜甜的果仁蜜餅（baklava），並沒有一樣是用紙包起的午飯啊！ 我慫恿小豆去問個清楚，小豆下車去問了那個人，我們得到了一個奇怪的詞----kanafeh----克那非，一個頗讓我有點感情的發音----我从小喝一種叫做「非那根」的咳嗽藥水。 幾天以後，是五月一日，為了象遠方的某個國家致敬，我與小豆決定喫一回那個「克那非」，反正那家店離家很近。於是，開車過去，對老闆娘說我們要兩個「克那非」，老闆娘問「糖漿是要『浸』的還『另裝』的？」，她也沒講明白，我也沒聽清，她就走了。 等是等了一會兒的，好在店中有各式漂亮糕點，又和小豆一起，等等就等等吧，大約十分鐘不到，老闆娘出來，遞給我兩個白色的紙包...... 很小的兩個紙包，就是那種方麵包三明治的大小，薄薄的，這個夠喫嗎？於是我又買了兩個大牛角，這家店的牛角也很好喫，都是有餡的，有巧克力的，也有起司或者火腿的。 回到家，與小豆各自打開紙包，空氣中洋溢着甜甜的香味。 「好香啊！」 「真的好香啊！是糖漿的香味！」 「真的好香啊！糖怎麼會這麼香的呢？」 「好軟啊，這是個麵包啊，好軟。」 「還夾着起司呢，裡面白色的是起司，聞上去沒有任何起司味道啊，衹有糖漿的香味。」 「這起司也很軟，這就是個起司三明治，起司好厚啊。」 「麵包上全是芝蔴，雖然聞上去聞不去出芝蔴香。」 「但咬上去還是有芝蔴的味道的，這個起司一點都不膩，真是好喫。」 「嗯，又香又甜又軟又好喫，熱得恰到好處，不燙嘴，但足夠熱，起司沒有融化，但却是軟的，好喫。」 「這麼小一個，我一口就咬下了一大塊呢！過會我們還能分一個牛角包。」 「好呀，很奇怪，這個糖漿很香，但却喫不出味道，除了甜之外。」 「是的，就是純純的香味，也說不出是什麼香型。从嗅覺到味覺，都很普通，可就是很香，也很好喫，甚至喫不出任何起司該有的味道。」 「我已經喫了半個了，你快點喫。」 ...... 「我喫不下了。」 「我也喫不下了。」 「我還剩四分之一。」 「我也差不多。」 「真是奇了怪了，這麼小一個東西，居然幹不過它，我再咬一口。」 「算了算了，我們不是對手，你想那個大鬍子，模子介大，也衹是喫這麼一個，我們幹不了的。」 「放棄吧。」 「我放棄了。」 很丢臉，那個小小的「三明治」，我和小豆都沒有喫完，雖然挺甜，但喫到最後也沒有覺得膩，純粹的就是「飽了」。 那是一個方形的軟麵包，最橫着剖開，可以看到內層被浸入或澆淋過淡棕色的糖漿，當中是一大塊雪白的起司，很簡單的食物，却相當好喫。 昨天，我們又喫了一回，去之前和小豆說好衹要一個，兩人分着喫。店裡佈置得聖誕，各種節日的裝飾。老闆娘顯然很忙，我對她說了「要一個克那非」後，她就去了裡間，再出來時拿着兩個紙包，我一見真是「魂飛魄散」嚇得「膽戰心驚」，又要一人幹一個？ 沒有那麼誇張啦，我與老闆娘確認了衹要一個後，也就買了一個，另外還買了蛋糕和白芝蔴餅乾，一共10.50美元。 一如既往的好喫，這回一人半個，剛剛好，恰到好處，並沒有新的信息可以提供給大家。 噢，還是有的，與這回的喫沒有關係，而是我做了一點功課。首先，這家店不是猶太人的，而是亞美尼亞人的，我是看到了聖誕裝飾後，才去網上研究的，終於被我挖出不是猶太店的。為什麼會認為是猶太店？因為他們有很漂亮的baklava，用一叠其薄如紙的麵皮做出的甜品，並非誇張，那個麵皮真是如紙般薄。 Baklava經常被譯作「果仁密餅」，就是一層麵皮，一層糖水，一層果仁，然後叠起來烤製。查了一下，這種麵皮叫做「yukfa」，最早是希臘的，後來土耳其、埃及、巴勒斯坦、以色列、黎巴嫩都有了baklava，甚至更多是穆斯林用來在齋月迅速補充能量的東西----是何等樣的偏見讓我會認為那是猶太人的專有？ 關於「克那非」，我也找到了一些資料，嚴格地說，我們喫的是「kaak kanafeh」，前一個詞是麵包或者烤餅的意思，後者則是「糖漿燉起司」「起司煎白糖」。話說傳統的kaak形狀很有趣，是一個「壺鈴」的樣子，一面厚一面薄，薄的一邊還有個洞，可以方便掛起來。「克那非」不是一定要夾在麵包中喫的，它更是一個傳統的甜品，用象上海生煎包那種大平底鍋，先塗牛油，再放上各種起司，大塊的，刨成絲的，最後煎成一大片焦黃的東西，再撒上開心菓碎，然後切成小塊淋上糖漿喫。 我去的那家店，叫Vrej Pastry，在Pasadena的Allen St.上，如果你有機會來，不妨喫一回試試。

Picked up a delicious fruit tart for a party, and everyone loved it! Crust wasn't soggy at all, the custard wasn't too sweet, and the fruit was ripe but fresh.

We love Vrej in our house. They are so nice, the food options are great and taste fantastic, reasonable prices. It's always a must when we are in town.

I came here after I asked on FB if any places in the SGV sold rum balls and was told about this place. The rum balls were perfect! Not too sweet. The problem was everything else was. Likely flavorless cream to the extreme and not exactly enjoyable. The lady finger had some kinda fruit in the middle but it had almost no flavor or it was getting lost due to the cream being so thick. Pistachio didnt have any other flavor but like a vanilla cream. The almond meringue was ok. Thin creme holding everything together but no real flavor. The black forest though was good but couldve used some more cherry or something. Also the woman who works there is rather harsh but since I'm there for a short time it was fine. All in all I wont get anything else from there except the rum balls.

Vrej Pastry in Pasadena is my go to for all celebratory cakes! They do a wonderful job creating the decorations from a photo I give them and I have never been disappointed. I highly recommend this place.

I have been a fan of Middle Eastern bakeries for quite some time, ever since I discovered the wonderful world of baklava and all the scrumptious calories that come along with this treat. My friend and I were disappointed by Katrina Bakery's reopening and had been searching for a replacement bakery for awhile - this bakery was recommended by a co-worker, so we had high hopes for the pastries. We came a little before closing time on a Saturday night - there were still a ton of pastries in the display cases, so we were able to have our pick of goodies. Prices are affordable - most cake slices were around $2 each. They also have fruit tarts and whole cakes, which were priced in the upper $20s and lower $30s. The only cake that I truly liked was something similar to the bird's milk cake from Karina's. I don't remember the name, but it had a good chocolate/toffee flavor, a good amount of sweetness, and was super chewy yet melted in the mouth after biting into it. Tiramisu cake was super dry and didn't have that creaminess or richness in flavor that you usually get. Their bird's nest roll cake was basically a roll of fudge - super sweet and hard to eat because of how sticky and hard it was. Opera cake was a little redeeming - not too sweet, had good flavor, and had good texture. I also decided to try some baklava - they go by how much weight you order; 2 small pieces ended up costing more than the slices of the cake. The baklava didn't seem fresh, but it was still crispy upon biting into it. Flavors didn't ring out as much as I would have preferred, but I liked the overall taste. But for that price, I will pass and get baklava elsewhere. tl;dr - This bakery was a miss for both my friend and me. The only thing I enjoyed was that chewy cake as well as the baklava. Everything else was just okay. Think I'll continue my search for good and affordable baklava.

I'm Huge baklava fan, and I only came here because a friend recommended it. Baklava wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't great or worthy to be recommended. The baklava fingers were actually dry in the inside, like the butter and syrup never made it through so it was just dry phyllo bread. Gross. If your looking for the best baklava go to Hayats Kitchen in North Hollywood

I hope this business will care about not disappointing their long time customers. I had a couple of "incidents " already, but their response was genuinely concerned. So I continued to be a loyal patron. As we are aware they raised prices greatly, OK? Then I noticed my favorite pastry (napoleon) got way smaller! Lol

Went and ordered a cake for my mother in law and asked for to be flamingos in their and decor . This is what I got 75 bucks for this small ass cake ever and I went back to show them the head fell off even and that it was to bland looking , she just fix the head and said that how much they charge for special cakes . What so special about this cake ... their way better is pastry locations out there . . Ralph's is even better than this place . A 3 year old would of done better job ! Never again what a rip off

I had to post this. I am so upset with Vrej Pastry. Today we had a birthday celebration so I went and bought a cake. The cake was rotten. Look at the picture. I specifically asked the worker at Vrej Pastry if the cake was fresh and I was told yes it was. How can a fresh cake be rotten? Afterwards I called Vrej Pastry and spoke to the worker that served and complained about. The sad part is how they handled my complaint. I am VERY disappointed. Will never buy from them again. Horrible experience.

Love their plain Croissants... not overly buttery so they don't ooze butter, but quite light and good for sandwiches or with jam or avocado toast style. Also good for Baklava and related middle eastern desserts. Service generally friendly.

If you're looking for amazing Middle Eastern desserts, you hit the jackpot. Vrej is a hidden gem and their karabeej halab is my (and my mother's) absolute favorite. Their sweets and pastries are carefully handcrafted in the building. You're getting the real deal. Now about my dearly beloved, karabeej halab. Karabeej is a semolina flour cookie filled with pistachios and served with natef, which is a type of root that has the consistency of marshmallow fluff. And together, you get heaven. I'm drooling just thinking about it. Do us all a favor and visit this small yet powerful pastry shop and treat yourself. I recommend the knafeh, baklava, napolean, and halawet el jibn. And if you like pistachio, I'm telling you, you're going to love karabeej halab. Put it on my grave.

If I can give this bakery a zero I would. I spoke to the owner from this bakery because we had ordered a Tres Leche cake (3 layer milk cake) from their Granada Hills location but come to find out after calling that the cake was made in this Pasadena location and transferred over to Granada hills which is where I picked it up. Once we got home in hopes to enjoy the cake for my sisters birthday we realized that instead this was nothing more than a whipped cream cake with coconut on top. It looked decent from the outside but once we cut into it, it was a huge disappointment. It barley had any vanilla cake and the little cake it did have was very mushy and soggy- this really had more whipped cream than anything else. I called and explained to the male owner my situation ( Pasadena location) and I have to say this man was extremely rude, not sympathetic at all and instead felt the need to lecture me in a rude tone on why I was even complaining- that every bakery makes cakes differently. He even started to mock me while I was explaining my situation. The worst service ever. I will never be going back. I will stick to the new Portos Bakery in Northridge from now on now that it's open! Portos in Glendale has the best of the best and amazing service but it was quite the drive so now that Northridge is open I will be going there. People beware***** you're in for a rude and unimaginable awakening if anything goes wrong with your order from this bakery. The owner has no class, NOT professional, and will be extremely hostile and rude to his customers.... ex-customer now.

The pastries were very dry. When asked about it. It was as if i was the one guilty of selling stale old pastries. You are in the business of selling food lady. Make sure it is consumable. Not buying from this place ever again.

Employees were very rude. I was so excited to try their cakes. I bought a few to sample and I tried to make conversation however she was just mean. I went out to try the cake and it was FROZEN and stale. I suspect they're freezing their cakes and selling them to avoid throwing it away. Don't go here.

Been coming here for years and the pastry is ok . I went yesterday to get a chocolate cake for a friend and when it was time to have it, we realized it was all moldy. Like how long has this cake been sitting in that pastry shops fridge for it to go that bad?? What a horrible experience. Never coming back here again .

The worst bakery I've ever went to in Pasadena . My husband and I went to the mom and pops next store to buy manak and decided to check this place out . Bad idea ( stick to the one on Washington ) . Their halawa jiben was OLD, DRY and had no flavor what so ever . The cakes where freezer burned and stale . A Waste of money and time

First of all, this shop's sweets are abnormally sugary and bland, coming from having good knowledge about middle-eastern and oriental sweets. Coming from experience, I can comfortably say that the taste and quality is not commendable and felt extremely commercialized. As a previous customer (from now on) who's generally knowledgable about this business, I wanted to give it another chance, and just visited it again to get some last-minute middle-eastern sweets for an occasion. In terms of service, there was a grumpy looking elderly man tending the shop when I visited, where I asked about some sweets and out of nowhere he starts having this extremely bad attitude towards me (I don't even know why) and shockingly towards other workers in the shop with a loud shouting-like voice. He had zero understanding about basic customer service. I couldn't listen to it further and courteously left the shop dissatisfied, where I had to visit another shop to get the last-minute errand done. It's such a pity for this once a good business to go this low. There are more quality shops out there. They need to do better.

Fresh baked croissants are an almost weekly thing for us. Knafe and mamoul are excellent. I am middle eastern myself have had these kinds of pastries both here and in the Middle East my whole life and I think this place up to par with the best of them

This is hands down one of best pastry shops I've been to. Their pastries and cakes are always fresh and delicious. The middle eastern pastries are the best. They also make the most beautiful custom cakes highly recommend going there. I had them make a custom Alice in wonderland cake and it was so beautiful and so yummy!!!

I had ordered a cake for my brother from here over the phone, that lady that took my order was so kind and patient with me and gave me ideas on how to customize the cake to how I want. I got white cake with almond which was designed with fondant, it was absolutely beautiful and omg the taste was so incredible. I will be ordering here from now on for any events. This is hands down one of best pastry shops I've been to. Their pastries and cakes are always fresh and delicious. The middle eastern pastries are the best. They also make the most beautiful custom cakes. I highly recommend going there.

Ordered a 2 tier fondant cake for my mother in law's 80th birthday. Alice was so helpful and patient with the details. She even helped Me carry the cake out to my car. Cake was beautiful and delicious. Thank you Alice.

So they just lost a customer who was a huge fan of their goodies. If you are not bothered by bad customer service, then this review doesn't interest you. Stopped for some pistachio "maamoul"s for my dad who loves them, and wanted to get a small tray. I saw one with the walnut ones, and when I asked if I can have the pistachio ones in the same small container, the lady showed me a big tray of two kinds and said they have that. I told her that I only need a small container and only pistachio. She said they had already taken the pistachio ones from another big tray for another customer and she doesn't want to do that for me again. Then she said, "buy some karabeej instead"... No, I will buy what I want, in the amount that I want. Oh, and I am Armenian and I will not tolerate ANY bad service, specially from Armenians. Multiple other places to buy that same exact maamoul.

I absolutely love this place for special occasion cakes. Beautifully decorated, delicious flavors and the price is amazing for what you get. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Pro tip...get some butter cookies for the car ride home.

Since Vrej Pastry opened their doors in Pasadena, I got so much hooked to their delicious pastry, u never go wrong buying or ordering from them!!! With my previous orders experiences, I was so extremely satisfied with the flavors, services & their punctuality!!! A few days ago, my niece's daughter Akira was Baptized, the cake not only gorgeous the tase was excellent! Plus the cookies that my niece wanted, they exceeded our expectations!!! OH...MY...GOD!!! DELICIOUS cakes, cookies and pastries! Kitchen classics and Armenian specialties that the San Gabriel Valley is famous for. If you like baked desserts, this is the place to go. I walked in on Father's Day, five days after going to a dinner party that served a Vrej Pastry cake. The person who brought the cake highly recommended this bakery and it is clear why. Everything is made to perfection, stored in a refrigerated case while waiting for a lucky customer. Things were moving off of the shelves at a rapid pace so nothing gets a chance to go stale. They take custom orders, both for flavors and decorating. Drop by...the smells are free and have zero calories. The desserts have a few calories, but you will jump for joy so much that you won't gain an ounce - I PROMISE

Started ok customer service, this is the day before thanksgiving. Well Before I paid I asked the worker if I can get a pictachios with my sweets . I told her that will be for my wife, she said okay we will not charge you becuse you alredy spending over $95.00. The pictachios was a very tiny how to tell you, very small the other pastry places they will give them away for free. Well the owner rang me up so I mentioned to her about the worker that was helping me that she will give me the pictachios for free. At the end the owner said with a Big NO !! I was ver mad after spending $95. They will not loose nothing or go broke the business . I DON'T RECOMMED NO ONE TO USE OR GO THER TO VREJ PASTRY VER BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE !! AND OVER PRICING ALL THERE SWEETS

DISASTER Customer Service. I purchased a cake and was told it was a chocolate and vanilla cake. it ended up being soaked in alcohol. I took it to a engagement celebration and ended up completely embarrassed. I tried speaking to the ladies to see if I could get a refund; they were completely unhelpful. My day was ruined. I don't need people at a pastry shop telling me I'm lying about alcohol in the cake. ABSOLUTELY WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Ladies kept wanting to try the cake--- now you tell me how I can go to the home of the people and take back the cake I brought. SO EMBARASSING! Workers have no idea what is in their own cake. Also, all the other Lebanese pastries have been tasting worse and worse. Must be a new chef or something --- this shop is going downhill.

A couple nights ago, I was going to visit some friends and decided to take some pastries with me. Unfortunately, it was late in the evening, and I had pulled up moments after they had closed down for the day. As I was turning back, I recognized the owner who was walking away from the store. I stopped to say hello and after explaining my situation she offered to open back up for me. It was so sweet! I took a bunch of goodies like baklava and cookies. My friends were so happy when I showed up with their favorites. This is my go-to bakery for family events as well. They have the best cake designs and so reasonably priced. We always order here whenever we have an event. MY FAVORITE!

I gave it two stars because employees are nice and welcoming otherwise everything doesn't taste good I ordered a knafeh and it was dry and tasted awful it seemed they had it from last night. I will not go back.

Stay away from this pastry place, most of pastry that they sell is old and dry, specially kounafa Jbne, cheese is old and you can get sick. Just stay away From it, Because even if you complain they don't care.
