Affordable rooftop bar with an incredible view of the Empire State Building. It's the top level of the La Quinta in Korea Town, and you can get there by going into the hotel lobby and taking the elevator to the top floor. They serve a small selection of beer, wine, and liquor. On weekdays, there's often enough space for a large group, so it's a nice place to take a group of 5 or 6 friends.
It's not pretentious at all, and that's what really gives this place an edge over other rooftop bars in the area. I've never had to pay a cover, and I've never been harassed. It's a good place to start the night going, and it has easy access to yummy Korean food downstairs.
Downsides are that it isn't very large, and you have to sort of crane your neck up to see the building because it is so close to you (that might be a good thing!). The indoor space is small, and the outdoor space is about 4 times as big. The elevator is very slow, so beware. On busy nights a line will start to form in the hotel lobby.
