VUA BÁNH BAO - VUA BÁNH MÌ

Google
I'm impressed. I'm not here for the buns (banh bao), was craving for some bánh mì and saw the sign so decided to check it out. It early in the morning so not much of foot traffic and plenty of parking. Fantastic service & very helpful plus they asked if eating right away for later so they can put the veggies on aside. Easy and direct order. Pretty fast turnaround too. Yes the bread ahead and quick heated once it done prepped, and nothing wrong with that. It's normal and it's really good. I ate one right away (fish cake, which is so so good, tasty, juicy and perfectly well mixed it just perfect in my book. I reheated the others, and the breads came out perfectly great, wouldn't know that it reheated. The veggies are great, fresh and abit too much from my pov, which can be a great thing. Other breads are great also. I got bánh thįt can too, it's pretty good. The quantity vs quality vs the price are equally great. The bread is big and packed w/ meat or fish and veggies, plus beautifully packed for $8 or $8.50 - not bad at all. The place is clean, spacious and bright. They do have onesies seating area and looks pretty nice. All I can say is, I found my new to go place for bánh mì cá for sure. I'm craving for it now....yummm. They have special going on now, buy 2 and get 1 free. I did, all 3 for $18.

Google
Ordered two grill pork and ribeye sandwich. All were pretty good. Wasn't busy so got my sandwiches pretty fast. Plenty of parking available.

Google
Tried out the new spot in town due to their promotion B2G1 free on banh mi. The restaurant is very big for just 2 tables so it feels kinda empty. The banh mi tho came out quick and PERFECT! It’s like a fat french baguette super crunch, veggies r tasty, they gave lots of pork belly meat n it is crusty and juicy and full of flavours, the sauce is tasty and not too salty like other places, mayo inside is delish. 9.5/10 we love it here for the price, so much that we bought 3 more to go home! Will be back soon! Ty!

Google
Worst banh mi I have ever had in my life. We ordered a dac diet, ribeye, and crispy pork. All three were terrible. I dont know what they used but everything tasted like it was covered with sugar. I taste nothing but the overpowering sweet butter. Terrible terrible mixed of flavors. We will never go back there again

Google
I’ve had banh mi here several times and liked it at first, but the quality has really gone downhill. My latest order was the crispy pork banh mi, and it was disappointing. No crispy skin, extremely salty, and the meat tasted old, like it had been recooked and covered with salt to hide it.

Google
I bought the Ribeye Steak Banh Mi, unfortunately it was extremely dry and lacked any flavor. The worst part was finding hair inside the food 😅 Please invest in hairnets.

Google
We ordered two fish cake sandwiches through online. They advertise for buy two get one and we didn’t receive it because it only applies to other types of bánh mì which was not disclosed in their ad. Their bathroom is not clean and overall atmosphere was not great. Their bread is crispy, other than that nothing special. It will be our first and last.

Google
Their sign and online website says close @8 PM. I came at 7:10 and the worker hid behind the counter. I went back to my car to call and they ignored the phone. When the worker peaks her head out I caught their attention and they had nothing to say…. I asked them what time they’re closed at and he said 7:30. I told him you guys aren’t closed yet and why does your sign say 8 pm. Again nothing to say. Waste of time, don’t come here after 7 and this business needs to update their hours.

Yelp
Came for the buy 2 get one free and will be coming back! Thit nguoi/combination meat- 10/10 Classic option the sides were filled with pate and I love the ratio of meat and veggie Bo/ ribeye beef -10/10 the sauce that comes with it is so addicting and Vietnamese tasting and the tomato and chilis added to the veggies is perfect Pork belly/heo quay- 8/10 good but not as exciting at the other ones, kind of skimpy on the crispy pork but still is yummy Also packaging of it is so ideal. Veggies already separated and banh mi ready to be heated up if preferred (not needed for me). Durable plastic box that won't squish it if you're going somewhere. Save the box for other uses too if you want. This is perfect pickup for a later meal!

Yelp
The atmosphere of this store, in my opinion, is rather cold/uninviting. It's a decently sized space, but very few tables and is very bare bones. The staff also look like they don't want to be there, but they were nice and answered our questions. Honestly, you're better off taking your food to-go. They put rau muong (aka morning glory/ong choy/water spinach) in their banh mis and this is the first time I've had banh mi with it. While not exactly bad, it added another level of texture that, in my opinion, clashed with the rest of banh mi texture and fillings. This is just my personal preference, so do with that info what you will. As for the banh mis themselves, they come in a box and they were fine. If they bother to heat it up for you, then not bad. If they don't, then it can taste a bit stale. The fillings were okay; not terrible, nothing to hit home about either. Just so so. I did find it odd that for to-go orders, nothing except the food was included in the bag. No napkins at all, just the box and bread, which kind of defeats the purpose of taking a banh mi to go if you don't have any napkins. I don't know if they forgot or if they didn't care, and napkins aren't available for you to get either. You need (at least when we visited) to ask them for it. So overall, if you happen to be in the area, maybe give it a try. In my opinion, it isn't worth the time and effort to go out of your way for this place; it's more of a "oh, we happen to be in the area and want a quick (to-go) bite" type of place.

Yelp
The stories spacious but lacks seating area so it doesn't offer an inviting vibe. The people behind the counter looked unhappy and indifferent which turned us off a bit. I ordered a crispy pork bánh mi, fish cake bánh mi, and a grilled pork bánh mi. I also bought a box of steamed buns with quail egg. The steamed buns filling are good and but the dough ratio with the filling was off so steamed buns 8/10 Crispy pork bánh mi was good. 8/10 Chả cá bánh mì 7/10 grilled pork bánh mi 7/10. All in all it's a decent place for bánh mi and buns.

Yelp
Went back and got ribeye (good), crispy pork (so so, some part was solid hard), fish cake (yummy, but too much fish sauce for my taste). Plenty of parking, good service, clean & bright store. Had to waited abit over 10mins for them to fried the fish cake, but worth it. I think it's the best fish cake in OC or CA that I had tried it.

Yelp
Vua's Banh Mi's made such an impression the first time, we made our return to explore the menu further. We tried crispy pork belly and the fish cake today. I gotta say, it's pretty good and the filling was quite savory just as expected. The bread on the other hand, is completely underrated... airy soft and warm with a nice toasted flaky crunch exterior. Nice job Vua!! We may have to come back for a third visit

Yelp
I have never set foot into this store. My MIL brought back to the Bay a pork belly sandwich on a 6 hour+ Greyhound ride. The sandwich survived in one piece and it was bussin'. The ingredients is different than what im used to in viet sandwiches (at least in the Bay). They seem to use green onions instead of celery. Tbh i havent had one that was pork belly either. They use chili rather than green peppers and it's even spicier to me. & The sauce is impeccable. The mayo is more runny but it was flavorful and delicious. The pickles were especially good.

Yelp
Stopped by for their BOGO banh mi deal today--this was my second visit. Unfortunately, the food just didn't hit the mark again. The flavors were lacking, and overall it wasn't enjoyable. It makes me wonder if the regular BOGO promos are due to low foot traffic. Not sure I'll be back for a third try. The first time they did their bogo deal was a messy, everything was slow, and I waited for 40 min even when I was the 10th person in line. This time got improved by having more staff. The store it self doesn't have AC so when you walk it, you can feel the humidity inside.

Yelp
Vietnamese baguette sandwiches (banh mi) was tasty. They're currently running a promo, buy 2 get 1 free. The rib eye sandwich was good but beware that it has mayo (personally...yuck!).... Wish I knew that ahead of time to have it left out. For those that don't like the pickled daikon carrot mix, the beef sandwich comes with lettuce and tomato. The pork sandwich was really good and tasty. The banh bao (quail egg) tasted yummy!! But so tiny! Clean interior, strangely vast open space in front of the order counter. Not sure if they even have plans for this big open space.

Yelp
This was my 2nd time having their Banh Mi sandwich was excellent. I had the pork Banh mi and my friend had the special. Both enjoyed our sandwiches. The lady that took our order was wonderful! Friendly and patient with our order. The place stayed busy. We were told earlier in the day line went out the door with people waiting to order. We will both go back. Wishing them continued success on this new adventure.

Yelp
I really love the packaging from this shop They also have a buy 2 get 1 promotion, which is amazing because you can mix toppings and try different flavors. Definitely worth it!

Yelp
SCAMMER! They post the Bogo today 9/5 Fri but when we came they said it only available till 1pm? Which absolutely not on the poster, instead they said you have to buy 2 to get 1 free. It probably they change bc there are so many ppl came and they losing the profit. Its not ab the money but its not right to do this. I feel like we were fooled. Such a shame restaurant.

Yelp
Dropping by get pork bun, trying this place out because they had just open for a couple of months now. It's not really that busy cause I guess I came in early in the morning and grab to go, and it wasn't busy at all. It taste okay I think the dough is not that good but the pork inside is ok to me it's not all that great, my opinion.Service is great as well. Ambience it's a big place , played Vietnamese music kinda loud for me but everyone has its own opinion. Place looks clean and they have a couple of tables and chairs you can sit. Parking is the only thing is bad because going in and out can be little where you turn in to the small plaza and out difficult because the traffic here in bolsa. It's the biggest street and it's a busy street.
google avatar

Yelp
Dear Vua Banh Bao, Throw out the expired items, do not sell it to customers! This is a must! I already have to drive and wait in line for the food to be made and to know it is not fresh and expired. What a disappointment! Meat in the bao made my family sick. Spring roll veggies are expired and bad. When the food cannot stay fresh or be stored properly, make sure to only serve fresh items
google avatar

Yelp
Pros: The space is clean and roomy: there are about 6-7 tables for dining in. Service: fast and friendly. Cons: Food warrants no return: Fried fish cake sandwich contains one hot dog shaped slice cut in half: taste more of old oil than fish or dill. Sandwich itself is all hard flake shells: no actual breadiness nor softness. Banh bao xa xiu is decent. Banh bao special and salted egg shell is dry and sad: feels reheated and not fresh. When you walk-in you are greeting with a giant island of 100 frozen thawing baos. I asked for warmed ones, but heat wasn't the issue. New management can't save low quality. Parking is difficult.
google avatar

Johnathan H.

Yelp
The banh mi dac viet had a good amount of pate and good flavor. It looks like they make their own baguettes in house, since it comes out from the back in a giant wheeled bakery rack and someone slices every single piece open. My only problem is it's pretty slow, and you can see them making each banh mi since they do it in the front of house. They also were missing a bunch of ingredients for their drinks, including banana, most of which were recommended drinks according to the giant menu boards.
google avatar

Julia J.

Yelp
There no parking, waiting for 15 minutes but still no one leaves. We try to order by phone on this yelp then they will just come out to drop for if still no parking outside, but called & call no answer . What's the phone this business used for‍ So I left

Kevin M.

Yelp
The bread I got was cold and stale like it was from a batch 2 days ago. They didn't even bother to heat it up the bread. I'd much rather go to Daikon or Lee's which is kind of sad to say.
google avatar

Tram N.

Yelp
The caramelized pork bánh mì here is absolutely the best I've had. It tastes just like the classic bánh mì from my childhood rich, savory, and perfectly balanced. It brings back so many memories. Highly recommended if you're looking for that authentic, nostalgic flavor. Banh mi thit khia o day an ngon nhu luc hoi nho o Vietnam an... qua ngon ba con oiii

Khamphone K.

Yelp
Friendly staff upon entering the shop. Very spacious inside with a few dining tables and chairs. Menu had variety of drinks, sandwiches and steamed buns to choose from. I ordered one pork and quail egg steamed bun and a watermelon chamoy drink; I did not want the extra stuff and asked if they can do only watermelon. It was delicious! Fresh fruit and no sugar added, very refreshing on a hot day. The bao was very good and fresh ingredients. The con is that they're very small. I expected a regular palm size one other than that it was delicious and flavorful. Priced at $2.45 a piece. The only thing I regretted was buying one steamed bun lol. They have restrooms for customers and a private parking lot. Accepts cash or cards.

Yelp
I ordered 3 bánh mì heo quay (crispy pork). The order took much longer than expected to make. We were running late and had to rush out of the store as soon as our order was ready. We had to eat in the car on our way to an event. My husband, who is not Vietnamese and didn't know what I ordered, heard me asking my daughter if she likes the crispy pork. He got confused and asked how come there's no crispy pork in his sandwich. Turned out, they gave us 2 crispy pork sandwiches and 1 cold cut sandwich. I called the store as soon as I realized they gave us the wrong order. They pulled my receipt. Verified that I ordered 3 crispy pork sandwiches. Apologized for the wrong sandwich and STOPPED THERE. That's wrong. They must replace the wrong order but that was never offered.

Pauline H.

Yelp
Went in today to try out their breads since they had buy 2 get 1 free. Store is big and clean. Food takes 5-10 minutes. Got the grill pork and the thịt khìa. Surprisingly the thịt khìa was pretty tasty, meat portion was great. The grilled pork was just mediocre. They had pickled water crest stems in place of the carrots and daikon and added to the grilled pork bánh mì. The pickled water crest stems doesn't go well with the bánh mì, and why would you put minced red chili to every single bread without asking customers if they can take the heat? We also tried the roasted pork bánh mì, even though it's not part of the buy 2 get 1 deal, and that taste pretty good.
google avatar

Tracie P.

Yelp
Buy 2 box get 1 free = good deal I enjoy their bao than Yummy Banh Bao. Also they have various of Vietnamese snacks. I greeted by friendly staff. The place is spacious and tables for you to enjoy the bao.

Nguyen L.

Yelp
Amazing bánh mi and they have the promotion going on but 2 get 1 free even better very nice customer service
google avatar

Tan L.

Yelp
We came in and ordered Paté Ham and caramelized pork sandwiches. Both of them are pretty good: savory pork, chunky in-house paté and flavorful sauces. They have another beverage brand compounded in the same store, and we tried their avocado drink. Absolutely phenomenal, blew all other Viet avocado drink out of the water. Thick avocado blend, right amount of sweetness.
google avatar

Nikki N.

Yelp
I passed by this place last weekend when they had their Buy 1 Get 1 promotion and the line was out the door! I was curious so I made the effort to come back to try their bánh mì. I ordered the special, fish cake and roasted pork bánh mì, pandan & ube waffle and Vietnamese coffee! Overall, the foods were not bad! The bánh mì were crunchy outside and soft inside. Even leaving them overnight, they didn't get hard like a rock like some other places. They packed the bánh mì well and gave us sufficient veggies on the side. The service was good, nice & friendly staffs but they might want to speed things up a bit in order to be competitive with other places.

Andy T.

Yelp
Service is super slow and the food just like the left over 2 weeks ago. Everything is just so bad, I don't you people should come here for anything.

Kathleen N.

Yelp
Found out about this place because of their BOGO deal. Got their Bo Ribeye banh mi. Portion size was average but they give a decent amount of meat. Meat was tender and juicy. Bread was crispy.

Thuc H.

Yelp
They advertised Bánh Mì Thịt BOGO all over social media for their grand opening, and again this Friday (6/20/25). They did the exact same thing at their previous grand opening--they ran out of food by 10:30 AM, even though people had been waiting in line for hours. If it only happened once, we could understand. But this is the second time they've done the exact same thing. That means it's no accident -- they're intentionally wasting customers' time by getting people to wait in line for 30 minutes to an hour, only to be told they're out of the Bánh Mì Thịt they heavily promoted. It feels like a dishonest and shady tactic just to pull more people into the store. It's misleading and unfair. Let's all leave reviews on Google and Yelp so they learn to respect their customers and don't keep doing this. How do you run out of what you promoted by 10 AM?? FAFO.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
We love the pork & quail egg baos! The bun breading was soft, fluffy, and just a little chewy - perfect for our preference actually. Comparing to other spots, it's less sticky than TP banh bao, & softer than THH & bao n baguette. Vua is our favorite so far between the shops that we've tried! The meat to bun ratio was decent, and flavoring was good as well - a little peppery in some bites, but we really enjoyed it. I ordered a box via Doordash & I think the price was the same (slight discount on box quantity ~$2.45 each and $16 for a box), and I was super grateful that it arrived hot & fresh! Iced Vietnamese Coffee was delicious too, strong and creamy, just how I like it. :)

Yelp
My dad and I decided to check out this bánh bao spot in OC while visiting. We usually frequent other places for banh bao, but we were pleasantly surprised with this place! The service was really kind and friendly, I'm surprised it's not busier here. We got a bunch of boxes of various baos to take home. In store we tried the quail egg and pork one, which is a must have classic. I really enjoyed this one and it tastes great when fresh and piping hot. We also tried the beef one in store, which I thought was just okay. A little bit too sweet for my liking for a savory bao. The durian one was really good though! Perfectly sweet and creamy, with fresh tasting durian. The avocado snow drink I was skeptical about at first but ended up being really good! It wasn't too sweet and very creamy. Would stop by again if I'm in the area

Jamie N.

Yelp
I rarely leave reviews, but this was the best banh mi sandwich I've ever had!! Everything was fresh, the bread was light and crispy and perfect ratio of fillings to bread. Good price too... highly recommend.
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
The Banh Bao was delicious. I had gotten the pork + quail egg. The sizes of the banh bao made it so easy to eat which I enjoyed. The filling was bouncy and I loved the texture - it's definitely more savory. I also really like how the buns were steaming when they came out. The restaurant was clean and the menu was easy to read. The service itself was terrible. There was a person in front of me and it took about 10-15 minutes for our order then it took another 15-20 minutes for 4 pieces of pork + quail egg banh bao. I can't imagine if it was busy!
google avatar

Julie N.

Yelp
The banh baos here do not taste good The meat stuffing just taste off - they are very skimpy with the lap xuong/ its sliced so thin you cant even taste it. The bao bread texture just isnt as good as other bao places Parking is very difficult here

Don N.

Yelp
Their banh mì heo quay is no good. Too much sweet sauces and the heo quay quality is inedible
google avatar

Judy D.

Yelp
I feel bad for giving this place a 3 stars cause I was hoping their banh bao would be really good given the name and the lady helping us was extremely nice. We were there on a Saturday noon and it was empty we were the only customers so I felt weird for getting just one bao. So I got a box of number 1 pork and quail eggs, and a few other things. I asked to eat one out of the box so she heated it up for me cause I was excited to try it and make it my new go to baos. Unfortunately the filling wasn't up to expectations, it was somewhat bland felt like regular ground pork. The skin was fluffy so it saves it but I like a flavorful pork filling and the bao didn't have that wow factor. It was edible but wouldn't get the bao again...not sure what else to come here for. Sad cause I really liked that lady
google avatar

Sandra L.

Yelp
I so wanted to like Vua Banh Bao, but it just doesn't make the cut for me. This place is big and clean-looking. Sadly, there is so much space, but nothing to show for. I came to try their banh baos, baked breads, and pate chaud. I was super disappointed that they had nothing but banh baos and pre-packaged snacks here and there. Ordering was frustrating because of the language barrier. I didn't like how they opened the pre-packed banh baos and shove them in another box for you when ordering one of each flavor. It was unsanitary seeing multiple workers opening and closing the same boxes with and without gloves. The banh baos I got were $2.50 each. Yes, you get a little discount if you order a box of nine, but this place is still more expensive compared to other places that sells banh baos in the area. The baos were inconsistent in shape and size. Two of the four baos I ordered were flat and deflated. So no, it was not fluffy like it should. The fillings were tasty, but I can't justify coming here for the higher prices because other places (i.e. TP and Yummy Banh Bao) makes them just as tasty. I'm not coming back.

Nhu

Yelp
the banh mi heo quay here hitsssss it tastes just like Vietnams and the sauce is perfect and not too fatty. Bbq pork banh mi comes with pickled water spinach and it is very good. The place is huge inside but not a lot of tables. They often have buy 2 get 1 free deal
google avatar

Mimi N.

Yelp
Thường mình ăn yummy bánh bao nhưng thấy chỗ này mới nên ăn thử. so disappointed !!! Bánh bao quá dở !!! Nhân toàn củ sắn chẳng có thịt. Going back to yummy Bánh bao
google avatar

Hans S.

Yelp
Banh bao $2.50, buy 2 get 1 free, so $5 for 3 banh bao, but they are very small, not normal sizes. Other items in the menu are also 25 to 30% more expensive than other shops in the area. This shop has very few clients. They need to adjust their prices, quality and quality to be competitive. Look at Banh Mi Cali. There are good reasons they always have long lines of people waiting for their food.
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
The two little boys who were working as the cashiers were absolutely adorable, a woman came out to assist and she was a gem. We were looking for something in particular and since they didn't carry it she referred me to another store nearby that she thought was the best, and I must agree. Honesty is the best policy. We ended up getting a few snacks and a brown sugar milk tea here which I have to say, east coast to west coast, this one was the best one we have ever had! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Sanny C.

Yelp
The pepper baos were bomb. I was pretty full so didn't get to try all the flavors. However, the pepper one was very flavorful. The skin was fluffy, soft and fresh. The other one that I tried was the egg yolk one. That one wasn't that great. It looked more like custard and the egg yolk taste was a bit off. I can't wait to try the other flavors. Will be back. There were other items as well like yogurt, sandwiches, coffee, penny worth drinks and etc. Friendly service and parking avail A few tables avail If you get a whole box of baos, you get either a free egg roll, a bao or pate so.
google avatar

Nicki T.

Yelp
Expensive and really small banh bao. I got two sandwiches: bánh mì chả trứng and bánh mì braised pork. They gave 3 little pieces of pork for almost $7 sandwich. Not worth it for the price.

Yelp
Sad amount of protein despite the price $6.5-$7 for combination banh mi No promotions for soft opening? At least they open at 6am for those with work early! ===== I know it's soft opening, but this is where they should identify any issues and better them for later usage. Almost $7 for a banh mi with a miniscule amount of meat when you compare to pickle and daikon, which actually gives you ample amount of meat..I would appreciate another layer of protein lol maybe they make everything in house, idk. It did smell very good when you come in though. They currently have no promotions going on (as of 10/2), and there's no other pastries available. The banh mi tasted pretty standard, but there wasn't much of it to really enjoy, if you're sharing with someone. This place would be two stars, but they get an extra star for having a unique bread where when you ask them to remove the fluffy (white part) of the bread, what is a left is a thin crust that is still able to sandwich the contents together. Low carb ftw ahah Service was friendly, though the food needs more of it lol

Yelp
Decent Vietnamese sandwiches with interesting banh bao/steamed bun flavors like mozzarella and taro as well as regular flavors like bbq pork and salted egg. Their cream puffs were okay, wouldn't recommend for the price point, $7 for a small container. Ordered the combination that had decent meat quantity but no pickled carrots. They probably ran out and the sandwiches were room temperature. Also got the ribeye which also had a fair meat ratio and it had tomato slices! Also no pickled carrots. They're good sandwiches and obviously better than the Lee's Sandwich across the street, but I wouldn't pay the price point when there are plenty of other Viet sandwiches for cheaper nearby. The inside was very aesthetic and open. Probably good for studying but the parking is very limited, a lot of 30 minute only parking. They had other treats for sale like flan and juice too. Lots of empty counters that will probably have more products for sale so it might be half a bakery! They're still in the middle of soft opening so I'm interested to see what else they sell.

Yelp
Tried their banh bao for the first time the other day and I prefer Yummy or TP over this place. The filling could use more seasoning, there was too much filler: mushroom, jicama. While the bun was soft and fluffy, it definitely has more bun than filling. Sadly, I won't be back.
