Snapshots: Two Years of COVID-19 in the San Francisco Bay Area Restaurant Industry - Eater SF

"Recently, we just got hit with a lawsuit. It’s an Americans with Disabilities Act lawsuit. One person goes around and sues hundreds of restaurants, just to get the penalty. It’s an $8,000 penalty. It’s an incentive for him to file lawsuits. It’s a gut punch. You’re stretched thin in terms of finances, and you get hit with that. It’s going to cost a minimum of $15,000 to get it to the endpoint." - Lauren Saria

We went there around 7PM on Sunday. The restaurant was kind of busy. We were seated right away but were waited a long time to order. The sweet and sour soup with catfish and lemongrass grill spare ribs were amazing, they can be eat together with rice. Sauté clams with basil was just so so even though the clams were kind of chubby. Tom Kho Tau is good but it definitely frozen shrimps so the freshness was reduced. I won’t spicy lemongrass chicken, it was slices chicken breast, so boring and taste weird.

Jan or host was the sweetest! All her suggestions were so perfect! She was so kind to explain the dishes and even customized some dishes so that we could try their best spread! Will definitely come back to try their elaborate spread of authentic Vietnamese dishes! Very friendly staff and great place to dine in with great food! Best of all, this is a family run business with family recipes on menu.

This is our go to spot for banh khot … shrimp cups! They are so good wrapped with lettuce and mint leaves. Spoon over some of the sauce … delicious! The banh khot comes out nice and hot and crispy. We always order two lol and lately we also ordered the shrimp on sugarcane with the rice wrapper to make our own shrimp rolls! Fast and friendly service. Also plays great music while eating!

This place never seems to be busy, even during dinner time. Food was good and came out really fast. Bahn khot (mini shrimp crepe) - highly recommend as an appetizer. The outside was fried to crispy perfection, yet the center stayed soft and moist. Bo Nuong Hanh Huong (grilled beef with onion wrapped inside) - too much undercooked onion so it was spicy and pungent. Ca Bong Lau Kho To (catfish claypot) - one of the most representative and popular Vietnamese dishes. The fish was tender with a flavorful sauce. But catfish is just too fishy for me so I'm not a fan. Ech Xao Lan (sauteed frog leg with dry curry spices) - I was expecting a curry sauce but it was just dry curry spices covering the frog legs. The frog legs were nothing special. You can order half serving of the dish to get more variety for your meal. They serve wine and beer, as well as many Vietnamese dessert (che).

This little gem is packed with authentic delicious Vietnamese dishes. I recommend the vermicelli noodle salads with grilled meats. Ingredients are fresh and flavors well balanced. If you need an authentic Vietnamese spot this is it! The restaurant is clean and servers friendly. Sometimes has outdoor seating. The prices are fair.

I had Thai tea, fresh coconut (whole coconut) which is too old, the coconut meat was hard to scoop out from the shell. Ordered larger BBH and shrimp cupcake. Shrimp cake was deep fried on the outside, it tasted crispy, the shrimp was fresh but overall it is oily and overpriced with 7 tiny shrimp cake for $12, it’s an appetizer but priced like an entree. BBH was normal not flavorful, I had better elsewhere such as iPho at warm spring Fremont or Hue at San Jose
