The Best Hotels in Budapest

"W Budapest is an exploration of duality. Housed in the Drechsler Palace, a building designed by architects Ödön Lechner and Gyula Pártos and previously home to the headquarters of the Hungarian State Ballet Academy, this is a hotel that firmly modernize the W brand while drawing deep influence from Hungary's past. A chessboard theme runs through the interior design, a homage to the city's national pastime: black-and-white tiles decorate every bathroom and elevator, and the two most splendid suites—the all-black Extreme Wow suite and all-white Wow suite—call back to both sides of the board, as well as the dueling black and white swans from Swan Lake. The Extreme Wow suite also houses a sculptural chessboard designed by artist Ronan Mckenzie, so you can practice your game while exploring the shops of glamorous Andrássy Avenue. Downstairs, the Away Spa is a veritable hall of mirrors inspired by Houdini's great illusions, and even a contortionist's sore muscles would be soothed by the clever massages. In the evening, enjoy refined Asian dishes at Nightingale by Beefbar, and then head down to Society25 for a nightcap. A speakeasy-style basement bar accessed through a bathroom mirror, it serves up a selection of intriguing cocktails, each inspired by the city's history: the Brew Bop is a coffee martini inspired by Budapest's 19th-century café culture, and the fun, frothy Strawberry Plié harks back to the era when trainee dancers rather than travelers roamed these halls."

Budapest Travel Guide: This Central European City Boasts Michelin-Starred Restaurants, Contemporary Museums, and High-End Shopping

"W Budapest, which opened its doors in the summer of 2023 and was a finalist on this year's Travel + Leisure It List, is a prime example of the timeless sophistication of the city's historic buildings. Housed in the UNESCO-listed Drechsler Palace on Andrássy Avenue, the property's spectacular interiors reference the building's past — at one point, it served as the headquarters for the Ballet Institute, so all bathrooms are outfitted with dressing room-like mirrors and lighting fixtures inspired by delicate pearl earrings that ballerinas wear — with the brand's design-forward approach to hospitality. There are spacious accommodations with custom furnishings, a spa with an indoor heated pool, an impossibly chic hidden speakeasy, and a very Instagram-worthy courtyard covered by a wave-like glass ceiling." - Dobrina Zhekova Dobrina Zhekova Dobrina Zhekova is a freelance writer with over a decade of editorial experience in Europe and the U.S. She covers luxury travel, art, architecture, and design. I had an exceptional stay at W Budapest. From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond — always warm, attentive, and incredibly accommodating, making me feel truly welcome throughout my stay. The hotel itself is stunning, with a beautifully restored building that blends elegance and modern design perfectly. My room was spacious, comfortable, and impeccably maintained, offering both style and functionality. The central location is another major plus, making it easy to explore the city. The facilities are outstanding: the spa is a real haven of relaxation, with superb sports equipment, a great gym, and a beautiful pool. The restaurant is also remarkable — the quality of the food is excellent, with fresh products and creative dishes, and the cocktails are truly exceptional. The value for money here is outstanding for the level of service and quality provided. What truly makes the difference are all the little touches and thoughtful details that elevate the experience and make you feel special. This is not just a hotel stay — it’s a memorable journey. Although it is a relatively new hotel, it has already established itself as one of Budapest’s finest luxury properties. I will definitely be returning, and I can confidently say that W Budapest deserves its place among the city’s top palaces

From the moment I arrived, quite late following a delayed flight, the welcome at W Budapest was calm, courteous, and friendly - exactly what I needed. The team handled my check-in efficiently, and I felt genuinely looked after from the start.||Throughout my stay, I was consistently impressed by the thoughtful attention to detail. The hotel is beautifully designed, with a modern elegance that still feels warm and relaxed. It’s the kind of place where every element — from the lighting to the scent in the air — has been carefully curated to create a serene, luxurious atmosphere.||The W Lounge offered a great balance between style and comfort. Breakfast was excellent, I just wish I hadn't crammed my agenda so full I only managed to get to it once on my trip! The bar service was just as smooth and polished — and the staff were always friendly, which is always welcome when you're travelling solo.||The true highlight of my stay, however, was the AWAY Spa. I had a massage and the bright eyes treatment with Asri, and it was, without question, the best massage I’ve ever experienced. Her professionalism, warmth, and exceptional technique set her apart — I left feeling renewed and genuinely cared for. I also want to recognise Mia at the spa, who was so kind and helpful and added an extra layer of calm to the experience, even when i added a last minute treatment it was all exceptionally handled with ease. The spa itself is serene, beautifully designed, and spotlessly clean — an oasis of peace in the heart of the city. Frankly, if I lived in the city, I'd be going every week!||Even small moments, from the bell staff helping with bags to how smoothly everything was arranged in my room, made me feel consistently well looked after. It’s rare to find a hotel where every single touchpoint, from check-in to check-out, reflects such a high standard.||If you're considering Budapest and want an experience that’s equal parts design, comfort, and genuine hospitality, I can’t recommend W Budapest highly enough. And if you're booking a treatment — do yourself a favour and request Asri at the spa!

Absolutely loved my stay at the W Hotel Budapest! The design is stunning modern with just the right touch of local flair. The service was exceptional from the moment I arrived, with every staff member being warm, professional, and attentive. My room was spacious, stylish, and incredibly comfortable, with beautiful views of the city. The location is perfect right in the heart of Budapest, making it easy to explore. Whether it was the rooftop bar, the breakfast, or just lounging in the lobby, every moment felt elevated. Can’t wait to come back!

Having just checked out after a 5 night stay the disappointment is still very present. The W portrays an image of cool, funky elegance. The tone of communications before arrival promise an exceptional experience, they wish to delight.||||The reality is snobbish, stuck up staff who portray a complete lacking of customer centric service. An always right attitude, lacking in understanding and sensitivity and failing to deliver at every point.||||1. Late check in with no communication||2. Failure to prepare even one of the requested check in pre arrival requests (why ask if you cant deliver).||3. Argumentative, rude and combative 'Talent' communicarion on chat.||4. Housekeeping walking into the room unannounced on several.occasions as no room bells and the dont knock loud enough.||5. No water replenished in the room even after requesting.||||A general feeling of snobbish, holier than thou, attitude with little care for the guest or guest experience.||||Failure to deliver on services or actually provide any real heartfelt service at all.||||Concierge was a shining light, they do a great job. ||||Breakfast is nice but again the attitude of some staff stinks. Heaven forbid you want a coffee before 7am and when sitting in the lounge area they refuse to serve you a coffee, point blank.||||In summary, there are many great reviews but our experience just went from bad to worse. I would never recommend this property, as nice as it is. It is over priced, underwhelming and oh so disappointing.

We stayed at the W for five days and had an amazing time. We took the opportunity to try several massages, including detox, relaxing, and couples sessions (50 and 80 minutes). During our visit, we discovered an exceptional massage therapist named Dian, who was truly outstanding. After chatting with her, we learned she competes in the Paris massage competition and has ranked highly, which clearly shone through in her incredible technique. I completely melted into the bed, and her skills were stellar. Highly recommend!

I stayed at W Budapest and had an amazing experience from start to finish. The hotel is stunning — a perfect blend of historic architecture and modern design. My room was sleek, comfortable. The staff made me feel welcome and safe traveling alone. Everyone was friendly. I also had dinner at Nightingale by Beefbar — absolutely fantastic food and cocktails in a vibrant atmosphere. Great for solo dining too. The location is ideal, with major sights just a short walk away. Whether you're traveling solo or not, W Budapest is a brilliant choice for style, comfort, and top-tier service. I'd definitely stay here again

From my (late) arrival to my departure (6 nights), the W hotel Budapest was so nice. My room was beautiful, the heated bathroom floors were so nice! ||When I met (local) friends during my visit, each of them noted the remodel of the hotel and how impressed they were. ||I visited the Away spa almost every day during my visit. Regina and Katalu were so kind and informative when selecting a treatment. Diana’s magic hands were so comforting during my “renew” treatment. |While I’m disappointed my holiday has come to an end, I feel refreshed and ready for the journey home. |Thank you, W hotel Budapest staff.
