W Mexico City

"Modern minimalist chic meets bygone Latin American charm at the 237-room W - which completed a full renovation in early 2016. All the chain’s stalwarts are present and accounted for: black-clad staff, poser-friendly bar, souped-up Ikea-esque furnishings. What sets the Mexico City property apart is its refreshing lack of attitude as aloofness takes a backseat to well-honed Latin hospitality that is both warm and incredibly efficient. Guest rooms are a stunning blend of big-city business hotel and beach resort: Cool tile floors mingle with warm woven mats, and black, white, and bloodred dominate the color scheme. The stone-clad bathrooms double as sunrooms where you can kick back in a hammock and enjoy the views of Chapultepec Park and the Zona Rosa. The hotel’s Away Spa has distinctly Mexican touches, such as a guarana and seaweed body wrap. Solea, a sumptuous seafood restaurant manned by chef Mauricio León, reflects the country’s rich culinary heritage in scallops, snapper, and steak."

I stayed at the W Mexico City back in April 2025 for two days, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the professional and friendly staff who made me feel welcome and attended to my every need. The room I stayed in offered a breathtaking view of the Mexico City skyline, which was a perfect backdrop for my stay. Waking up to such a stunning sight was truly a highlight of my trip. One of the standout features of the hotel is the restaurant located on the second floor. The food was absolutely outstanding, showcasing the rich flavors of Mexican cuisine. Each meal was a delightful experience that I looked forward to. Additionally, the hotel boasts a fantastic spa and workout gym that not only provides excellent facilities but also features a great view of the city. The oversized hot tub was a luxurious touch, allowing me to relax while enjoying the beautiful scenery. I also want to commend the valet service, which was incredibly helpful. They ensured I had directions to all the places I wanted to visit, making my exploration of the city seamless. It was a relief to know that all the staff I encountered spoke English, as my Spanish is not very strong. Overall, I highly recommend the W Mexico City Hotel for anyone looking for a luxurious stay with exceptional service and amenities. My experience was nothing short of impressive.

Google
Great check in experience, valet help getting luggage to room. Room was beautiful with tons of space and amenities. Room service extremely responsive as was guest services. Good internet. Friendly restaurant staff. Good breakfast buffet. Outdoor bar was a great meeting place. We like the hotel so much that we booked it upon our return to Mexico City a few nights later, even though our plan was to go elsewhere. We will definitely be staying with you again. I can’t remember a better hotel experience.

Google
Very much torn between four and five stars. The staff was great, super friendly, really on point. Housekeeping was exceptional. Housekeeping saw I was using the desk and had pulled over a different chair to try and sit at the desk, and they brought me a proper desk chair without me asking while I was out. The room was spotless every day. When I went to the restaurant, they were attentive and speedy. Check-in was slow, but the guy was moving as fast as he could and there were 5 ppl ahead of me and only one of him. I liked the location. I only give it four stars because of two reasons. 1) No executive lounge, and the grab and go bar is very sad. It’s mostly just junk food. Water. And a few apples. Super disappointing for a business traveler. 2) The room. (Room 912). I paid $400 a night for a room that functionally had no windows. There was a window in the bathroom that looked over some roof, and then a window on the other end that was maybe 6 inches wide on the other end of the room. So while a decent size it was like a little cave. As a lifetime titanium business traveler, I expect better rooms in general. However, as a woman, I know I often don’t get a good room unless I ask for it. Overall, I probably wouldn’t stay again because of the room / windows / price combination.

I've stayed numerous times at the W for business, but this recent trip was the first where my family tagged along. I didn't see many reviews about travelling with children/babies, so wanted to share my excellent experience. We, of course, did not realize all the things we were going to need when traveling with our 14 month old -- the wonderful staff at this hotel was incredible in offering up a full-size crib, bath bassinet, infant soap and play sponges upon seeing us check in with our baby. They quickly brought us up a small refrigerator, which allowed us to store our gallon of milk and all the dairy that we were going to need for the week. All of this made a HUGE difference in our experience. Plus, the staff at breakfast clearly had experience with babies -- the scrambled eggs were cooked so softly and with tiny cut-up pieces of ham that eliminated any choking hazard whatsoever. He gobbled them up, along with the daily glass of milk that we refilled his bottle with. Another plus - the heavy black out curtains made naptimes a breeze! Thank you for helping us with a smooth stay.

A boutique hotel. No swimming pool sucks. Besides that, it is not bad to stay here for a fun night. I like the decor in the lobby. I just reviewed some pictures on google before I arrived here. The photos suck, and scared me if I would stay. But it turns out sometimes some people just don’t have ability of taking photos, and like to filter it all the time to reduce the raw, and true beauty of itself. I especially loved twin rooms because I went to our friend’s king room. It just did look better than our twin rooms. Restaurant offers lots of drinks, and food that I’ve already familiarized. Not big surprise, but I still liked the salmon tartare, dessert queso arroz con leche (I think so far the best version), and our drinks. About W hotel The W Mexico City, situated in the upscale Polanco neighborhood, offers a vibrant blend of contemporary design and luxury accommodations. Its prime location provides guests with easy access to cultural landmarks, high-end shopping, and renowned dining establishments. Design and Ambiance Embracing a chic and modern aesthetic, the hotel features interiors adorned with rich colors and innovative lighting. The lobby welcomes guests with a distinctive water-filled pool, setting a unique tone upon arrival. Guest rooms are thoughtfully designed, combining elements of a business hotel with resort-like touches. Features include cool tile floors, warm woven mats, and a color palette dominated by black, white, and red. Bathrooms are particularly noteworthy, equipped with stone-clad finishes and hammocks positioned to offer views of Chapultepec Park and the Zona Rosa. Amenities and Services The hotel boasts a range of amenities tailored to both relaxation and productivity. The Away Spa incorporates local Mexican elements, offering treatments like a guarana and seaweed body wrap. For fitness enthusiasts, a 24/7 gym is available, featuring cityscape views. Culinary experiences are highlighted by a restaurant led by acclaimed chef José Andrés, serving innovative dishes that reflect the rich flavors of Mexican cuisine. The Living Room Bar provides a lively atmosphere, perfect for evening gatherings. Location Polanco is known for its safety and walkability, with attractions such as Chapultepec Park just a short stroll away. The neighborhood is also home to numerous embassies, luxury boutiques, and some of the city’s finest restaurants, including the renowned Pujol. Conclusion The W Mexico City stands out as a dynamic destination for travelers seeking a blend of luxury, modern design, and cultural immersion. Its strategic location in Polanco makes it an excellent choice for both business and leisure visitors aiming to experience the best of Mexico City.

I am having my first trip to Mexico, just for 2 days in business. I choose the W Hotel in the Polonco area of Mexico City. The hotel is in a great location, is clean and meets all my requirements for a business trip. ||But more important is the quality of the staff. They have been great. Especially Rogalio, who welcomed me after I arrived following a 12 hour flight. Helped me settle into the hotel and organised things for me.||The waiters and waitresses in the restaurant were very helpful. And Layta (hopefully I have spelt her name correctly) were all brilliant.||I do not often write reviews. But the staff at this hotel do. Thank you for making my short stay memorable.

Place is extremely run down dirty and nasty. Staff was nice and location is great, otherwise I would give this a 1 star. For the price probably worst hotel I have ever booked

GR8 M8 4EVER

Google
Apologies for not aligning with the other comments, but to me, it felt like a complete rip-off: $500 USD per night is outrageous for this place. I usually love W Hotels—Barcelona is my favorite—but this one was a huge disappointment. The rooms were fine but far from exceptional. The towels were old, and basic amenities like water bottles for brushing teeth and soap bars weren’t replenished daily. Check-in was particularly unpleasant. While I did inform the hotel management, their response was polite yet generic. When I requested a new soap bar, I spent three minutes waiting on the phone, and it wasn’t delivered until hours later, long after I had left for dinner. This hotel may have been great at some point, but it certainly isn’t anymore.

Yelp
A+++ I have to say this was one of the best W experiences I've had. I typically stay in Ws and jump on the opportunity when my wife and I were doing a long weekend in Mex City. I am a Marriott Platinum and used my suite awards to get the most luxurious upgrade....bi-level king with two full bathrooms and a small outside patio. It seemed as though every staff member just wanted to make our stay better. Chatting and asking us if we needed anything. The concierge helped with dinner reservations and the staff at breakfast were so nice and pleasant. I would go up to grab more bread at breakfast and they would be waiting for me to push in my chair and hand me my napkin. We had a couple of issues with our blow dryer and they immediately came up with a new one - within minutes. Sometimes asking for amenities at hotels can take forever. Lastly, our room lock ran out of batteries and we couldn't get into our room. I think the problem was solved in less than 10 mins. I was super impressed. GYM is fantastic - but similar to other Ws. They have a nice jacuzzi and steam room to enjoy. Breakfast was amazing - the choices are plentiful. For our COVID test, we had a doctor come to our room the day before we were leaving and they scheduled that for us. I highly recommend this hotel in the beautiful area of Polanco

Yelp
The W Mexico City is ideally located in a bustling neighborhood, surrounded by excellent restaurants, bars, and attractions, making it a great base for exploring the vibrant culture of Mexico City. The ambiance of the hotel is modern and chic, and Jasmine at the welcome desk stood out for her friendly and helpful demeanor, ensuring that check-in was a pleasant experience. However, our stay was deeply disappointing due to several service failures that overshadowed the positive aspects. Key Issues During Our Stay: 1. Delayed Room Availability: Despite arriving at 4 PM, our second room wasn't ready until 7:30 PM. This delay caused us to miss a dinner reservation, an inconvenience that set the tone for the rest of our stay. 2. Room Condition: One of our rooms had a strong odor of fresh paint. We requested an air purifier, but it never arrived. We had to endure the smell for four nights, making the stay uncomfortable. 3. Inadequate Amenities: Both rooms were booked for two guests, yet amenities like slippers and bathrobes were provided for only one person. Even after multiple requests, no additional bathrobes were supplied. 4. Subpar Housekeeping: Housekeeping services were shockingly poor for a five-star property. A dirty towel was left on our clothes one day, and another day, we discovered a blood-stained bedsheet. There was no turn-down service or attention to detail, such as proper cable management or placing water bottles next to medications. 5. Poor Response to Complaints: After raising these issues, the hotel sent a cheese platter and a small bottle of sparkling wine--but only one glass, despite there being two guests per room. 6. Water Charges: It was frustrating that staff claimed water was chargeable, even though free water was available in abundance elsewhere in the hotel. While Chef Matias and Adrian Cedillo were polite and tried to assist, they seemed powerless to resolve the situation effectively. The offer of 6,000 Bonvoy points per room as compensation felt inadequate given the severity of the issues. As a Titanium Elite Bonvoy member, I expect consistent service standards regardless of my status. This stay fell well below expectations, with the blood-stained bedsheet and poor housekeeping leaving a lasting negative impression. We came to Mexico City for a relaxing vacation, but our experience at The W Mexico City marred our trip significantly. While the location is fantastic, the service and attention to detail need serious improvement to match the standards of a luxury property.

Yelp
Hands down one of the BEST breakfasts in a hotel ever! Spa was great, staff helpful and rooms were exactly as pictured. Wish they had a lunch option other than room service or pre-made sandwiches, only room for critique.

Yelp
Very cool artwork and we were in town right before Formula 1 so got to see decorated cars all over the city. Service and staff were all very friendly, but overall stay here was average. It's a great location but they focused on design rather than comfort / functionality. The tub setup was so awkward and would not be safe for elderly people to be climbing in and out of. I also had to take a number of work calls from the hotel room and during one of the days the electricity / lights kept flickering on and off. Luckily the wifi was stable.

Yelp
Nice place to stay. Been here two times and can't complaint about anything. Friday nights can chill by the bars, enjoy the live DJ play music and have drinks. Place is super clean and definitely will stay here again.

Yelp
The food options here are frankly... terrible. It's at the point where they are offering to order from a local restaurant to make up for it

Yelp
Truly one of the worst hotels I've stayed in. Especially at this price. The heat in the room doesn't work at all. Not even sure why they bother putting controls on the wall. The shower has a rain head. Welcome to the best thinking of 1992. Not to mention that the shower is a black enclosed closet. The design is truly some of the most juvenile design I've ever seen. It looks like the kids from a high school graphic design class design the entire hotel, again in 1992. In addition, my friend had to hold her shower knob up all the time to get her shower to work. $2,000 US for 3 nights. Marriott you should be ashamed to charge these prices for this hotel. This place is a dump.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning hotel. Staff, amenities and not to mention location is great. Close to Chapultepec, El zocato, plenty restaurant and museums. Ohhhh not to mention if you don't want to leave and just have a great meal they have the J by José Andrés restaurant in their second floor witch is a must try itself. Highly recommend staying!

Yelp
AMAZING hotel located in Polanco. I can't rave enough about this hotel. From the clean and modern rooms to the most friendly and accommodating staff, I wouldn't stay at any other hotel in Mexico City. I must start off by saying how amazing the hotel staff was. They treated us with the most respect and were so hospitable - especially Oscar in concierge services. He recommended the best site seeing, restaurants, and shops and always answered all our questions with so much patience and friendliness. The other staff members also went out of their way to make us feel at home - and it truly felt like we were. Hotel is located in Polanco and is within walking distance to all the upscale and trendy restaurants and shops. The hotel breakfast is exceptional and is very fresh. Jose, the manager at the restaurant was SO friendly and truly welcomed us with a smile and positive attitude every day. The hotel also has a great spa and gym facility which is open for all hotel guests. Overall, I had the best experience in Mexico City thanks to the W Hotel. Thank you very much for making us feel at home. Until next time!

Yelp
I was looking for a Temezcal while in the city and I accidentally read an article in The NY Times that recommended a Temezcal at the W. I called the day before the actual service and they were able to accommodate me which I was so grateful for! The next day I took an Uber to my very first Temezcal. I was instantly greeted and taken to the floor the spa was located. The elevators were a bit small but super cool. Everything inside this hotel was so modern contemporary I loved it. I was greeted by the receptionist and quickly took me to the women's locker to prepare for the ritual. The entire experience was so magical and so happy that I took a leap of faith to make an appointment. I hope to return the next time I'm in town. Thank You!

Yelp
If you have stayed at a W Hotel you know the service and property is going to be first class. But there was something extra about it being the Mexico City one where the staff just goes above that and treats you like royalty or a rock star. Five star all the way and enjoyed the complementary upgrade to club level floor for being a Starwood member. Espero quedarme pronto otra vez!!

Yelp
Really liked this W. Loads of great modern, tongue in cheek ambiance, super clean room, super comfy beds and linens, great, friendly service, great restaurants and food and excellent location. What more could you ask for? We had room service and the food was outstanding. The fitness center and spa were awesome as well. Try the Sopa Tlapeno! one of the best versions ever. End to end, outstanding. This will be my new home on any future visit to CDMX.
google avatar

Myoshi E.

Yelp
In the heart of the finest and most affluent area in CDMX, I was extremely impressed by all service aspects at the property. Excellent SPG Platinum recognition with a suite upgrade, warm greetings by name every where you go and hyper prompt attention to needs which was impressive. Elizabeth R. at the front desk was AMAZING at every point from check in, when I lost my key, to small room issues which were fixed surprisingly quick. We also took in a day at the spa and had a magical spa service with Angela who brought me back to life after back to back business meetings. It's not the newest W and does miss on having a typical W pool which is something we were looking forward to but overall a great experience and I cannot recommend more highly based on the service experience. After stays @ 28+ W hotels worldwide, W MexicoCity delivers in a big way landing in the top 3 properties to date. 10 star rating for the team working and running this location!!!!

Yelp
Nice hotel This hotel is located next to the JW Marriott and in an area with several other hotels and lots of restaurants. The staff are friendly, generally speak English and absolutely aim to please. My wonderful room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The hotel has the bar/living room that serves food and one other restaurant. So even on a short trip you will likely want to eat somewhere else. There is free bottled water in the room and don't forget to use it to brush your teeth. The bed was comfortable and the room is comparable to Ws in the US. Oddly enough the shower is private and has a door unlike most see thru W showers in the US, which makes it totally appropriate to share a room at the W Mex City with non-significant others. Overall good stay.

Yelp
Conveniently located in the upscale Polanco neighborhood of CDMX. The hotel is an easy 10 dollar Uber ride from the airport. Easy to access the local parks, restaurants, castle, opera and museums. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are ultra modern and at first impression one would think you are in a space ship - clean, crisp lines, lots of white and funky art work. Highly recommended if you are in CDMX.

Yelp
I must say this hotel is unique, so different that any hotels I stayed. The lady with mustache, artificial aquarium in your hotel room, bathroom and drink bar. All of it. Overall it was a good stay. They give you free bottled water at Lobby. The food at the bar was okay. Most importantly I didn't get stomachache. Just avoid ice and unknown source of liquid. I love the body cream.

Yelp
We stayed at the W Mexico City hotel for a long weekend and enjoyed our time there. The location right in the middle of Polanco couldn't be better as we had walking access to some of the best restaurants in Mexico City as well as the museum complex. The good: Customer service was exemplary. From the front desk, to the bellmen, to the doormen, to the restaurant staff, to housekeeping, and to the management - they were all exceptionally customer-focused. The staff went well out of their way to ensure our stay was exceptional. Breakfast in the restaurant is enjoyable and the food options are reasonable. And the views from the upper floors are amazing - you can see all over Mexico City, including the snow-capped volcanoes in the distance. In addition, the bar is trendy with a good selection of cocktails (although a bit dimly lit). The bad: The rooms are a bit dated and seem more like form than function. They reflect the hip design trends of over a decade ago. We were upgraded to a junior suite on the top floor which had a balcony with a great view of the city. What was strange was that the shower was in the middle of the the downstairs area with the sink off to the side away from the shower enclosure. And typical of W Hotels, the furniture was not very useful (in our case, the single couch was almost like a futon you could never fully sit on). Be prepared for a VERY firm mattress. And as we were on the top floor of the hotel with the sleeping area in a loft, it seemed like the heat was constantly on high. Ironically, the lobby area was very cold which explains why the front desk staff were wrapped in winter clothing. If I was allowed to award half points, I'd probably give the W Mexico City a 3.5 rating. The staff and location were exceptional but the facilities left something to be desired. The W is currently renovating rooms, so I'd imagine they will be updated to current hotel trends reasonably soon. Oh and one last warning: The elevator doors shut hard and fast, so make sure you're in or exit right away. I saw too many passengers (including myself) get creamed by heavy elevator doors slamming shut on them.

Yelp
Just wasted an hour waiting at the spa for my massage and didn't end up getting one. Made a reservation over 2 hours in advance. Nobody told me until 50 minutes (yes I am patient) of waiting that the masseuse is in traffic. No apology to me either. When I said I had to leave all that was said was "perfect". Unbelievable. You would expect better from a high end hotel.
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
I have never been treated so ungraciously at any hotel, ever. I have a friend staying here. He asked me to pick him up. I arrived at the hotel at the appointed time, walked to the so-called "Whatever" desk (that tells you something right there). I told the clerk why I was there. She called up and verified that I was expected. Then she demands my ID, and leaves to "make a photocopy" (do a background check?) She comes back five minutes later, refuses to give me back my id, then calls a security guard over to take me up. The security guard disappears for five minutes to again "make a photocopy," then takes me up to my friend's floor. I didn't quite understand the exchange between my friend and the guard because it was in rapid-fire Spanish, but for some reason the coast still wasn't clear for me to visit my friend in his room. We headed out immediately for lunch. People, I'm a 63-year old, bespectacled, nebbishe man. I realize the danger in profiling on either side of age/racial/gender divides but really? Really?

Yelp
Great hotel, great location. Stayed there for a weekend and it was a great experience. The workers are very helpful in every way possible. The place is super clean. The neighborhood is very safe, clean. Close to restaurants, National auditorium is across the street so you can find a good concert to attend and in-front of the National auditorium you can catch the On/off tour buses. They work from 9am to 9pm.

Yelp
Here on business trip for 2 nights so I did not choose this place. The decor is cool but not a fan of the bathroom. The bath and toilet area is closed off and painted black and dark blue so gives a really gloomy vibe when showering. Normally hotel bathrooms are all glass. The shower head is crusted with mineralization so they clearly do not clean in the right places. When I first arrived, I noticed there were beard trimmings from the previous client near the sink and on some towels. Never saw this before in a moderately nice hotel and was very put off. The towels are so stiff and the bedsheets are all pilled up. Also never experienced such low quality bedsheets from such an international hotel. The pillows and bed are comfortable. The floor is tiled so wear slippers. Overall would not recommend this place if you can help it, the Marriott next door is prob much better. This hotel is located in a very nice shopping and dining district though. Walkable distance to everything

Yelp
A swank hotel in the beautiful city of Polanco. The decor in the lobby is very orginal. The floors are diferntly a W, with black carpet. The rooms are very cleean and modern with a open shower. The bar on the second floors has great food and drinks. I used there pick up service to and from the airport and was impressed by the clean SUV, that was price correctly. I would differntly stay there again.

Yelp
The hotel is pretty but the beds are uncomfortable and I a bit loud at night, the food at the restaurant was good but they failed on the paella, nothing to be impressed about! The customer service was bad and DO NOT TAKE HOTEL TAXIS!!!!!! They quadruple their prices compared to Uber.
google avatar

Joann C.

Yelp
Great room and even better customer service. It is quite interesting with the hammock in the bathroom and a sink in the bedroom. But the overall feeling was quite modern and luxurious. I liked the restaurant for breakfast. The food was very fresh and tasty. They had fresh fruit and pressed juices as well as a good balance between local and international breakfast food fare. The neighborhood was very safe albeit a little boring. It was quiet and very accommodating if you want to go for a quick run or a bit of exploration. But if you want night life you do have to walk about 10 blocks away.

Yelp
Mexico is an amazing and vast place. It far exceeded my expectations in every way possible. The food, culture, architecture, religion, history, dance, politics, art, and geography were above and beyond. It was love at first site. See my full post and photos here: http://aliroundtheworld.com/

Yelp
I would like to give Armando and the other massage staff a shout out for the excellent attention and expertise with their service at Away Spa. The combination of deep tissue massage and Thai technique rid all aches and pain and created energy and balance, miraculously, in one 80 minute session! it was perfect and we've had massages all over the world ...iLA , NY and many major cities in Europe as we. do this for preventative care, with health costs so high, feeling that proper massage like this, rids blockage and creates flow to battle all kinds of illness. The massage, combined with a steam room with eucalyptus beforehand , which created an interior cleanse, was the perfect antidote to being in this crazy ( but wonderful) city. Muchas gracias !,

Yelp
Customer service here was outstanding. From the moment of our arrival everyone was helpful and kind. Within the hotel is a restaurant that opened in late 2015, which was designed by the Spanish Chef Jose Andres and, again, the customer service was great. We enjoyed 2 meals there - because the restaurant staff was so nice and motivated to see to our satisfaction.

Yelp
This hotel is amazing. It is much like other W Hotels, in that it possesses a modern decor but has its own unique flair. It is located in the Polanco area, so many bars and restaurants are within walking distance. The hotel staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they do their best to accommodate your needs and desires. They connected us with one of their known drivers (Manuel), who took us around on two different days. He is very familiar with DF and knew the local places to stop. If you are looking for someone to take you to the sites, he is your man! The Living Room Bar has impeccable (and affordable) drinks, and the staff is willing to make you whatever you like (try the margarita or the michealda). We stayed in a corner suite, which was nicely decorated and roomy. The restaurant is fantastic and the breakfast table buffet is worth eating! Will definitely be staying here again!

Yelp
I arrived on Monday and stood here for three days. The service was great, Marika A Simon was so unbelievably helpful as was the rest of the staff. I would definitely recommend the W. The view from my window 8 floor was awesome, the decor of the rooms and the lobby was nice. My only problem was the smell of the lobby, it smelled like someone broke a bottle of cologne in the lobby. Other than that, it was a great experience. Gracias.

Mo M.

Yelp
A bit noisy at times but good service and attentive staff, I like the whatever whenever approach!

Yelp
I stayed here on a business trip for one week and have to say that I generally don't like hotels with bad window situations. The bedroom is separated with a thin, transparent curtain from the bathroom where the one and only window is, which you unfortunately can't even open. The lighting is not very home-feeling, rather bright and practical. Room Service Dining is quiet average, the food was nothing special but also not terrible. - There are other minor things that I didn't like, for example my room didn't get a cleaning on some days - or every time you open the door, the 'do not disturb' sign falls to the ground ... It's just things that should be thought of and improved in this kind of hotel. The bathroom products are from Bliss, which is nothing special either in my opinion. Everything together I would rate this hotel as an average place to stay for short times, but maybe not the best choice for a longer (business) trip.
