Come here frequently and the food is always superb and we always get the same waitress and she’s phenomenal!! Fiona is the best (top tier service) They have an amazing selection of food items and the crab fries are a MUST GET! Food can be a little pricy but all and all it’s worth it! Never had a bad meal here and we always get great derives everytime and plus there is an underground bar!

Not what it used to be or maybe it’s an off day. I ordered a poke bowl which looked great on top. It was a bowl of rice with a few toppings covering the rice. Very little substance. The Old Town Crunch roll was nothing like it used to be to be. The waitress forgot my drink and sushi until I reminded her but in all fairness she was super nice about it. We all have off days. Maybe the food was just having an off day. I used to come here a lot and the only complaint I’d ever had was it’s expensive, but very good.

Best date night in town. I have been thrilled to be here for lunch when it is a bright and fun atmosphere. I've had a great time when there was live music. I've enjoyed other times when it was pretty quiet at night and I just sat at the bar with my wife. The food is incredible, the staff is very friendly, they seem to be able to tell the difference between intimate moments and when we would like company and conversation. I cannot recommend it highly enough. 6 out of 5 stars!

I had an amazing dining experience at Wabi-Sabi in Petersburg. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and had a great vibe. The warm welcoming from the staff was great. I started with the lollipop lamb chops and tempura fried green beans as appetizers. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly—tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The green beans were crispy, light, and had just the right amount of seasoning. I also tried the Wabi Balls with shrimp, and they were absolutely delicious, with a perfect balance of texture and taste. For my main course, I went with the chicken katsu dinner, which did not disappoint. The chicken was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and paired beautifully with the sauce. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying. What really made the experience stand out was my server, Hannah. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, gave great recommendations, and provided top-tier service throughout my visit. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect. Wabi-Sabi is definitely a must-visit if you're in Petersburg. The food, atmosphere, and service were all outstanding, and I can’t wait to go back!

We used to LOVE coming to Wab Sabi when we first started dating about 10 years ago. The prices were steep then but the food was worth it. Over time, it started going down hill so we stopped coming and went elsewhere. For our anniversary we decided to give it a try since it had been awhile. I really wish we had saved our money. For the price, the quality is kust not there for the sushi rolls. One of mine was made incorrectly and my husband said his rice tasted like water. The service was also pretty bad. Our waitress was super sweet but it took forever to get anything. Beer, food, etc.

Google
I would not recommend this place! Service wasn’t great. The food was expensive and definitely not worth the cost. I got a sushi roll with fried shrimp in it, there was literally oil dripping off of it. (Picture attached) The oil tasted old and had a rancid taste. My roll was $18 on the menu and I was charged $20. Just don’t waste your time coming here.

Google
Do not get the lettuce wrap. They are not at all like the P.F. Chang’s or similar. They were too salty and mushy. The balls aren’t bad but for the extra amount on meat choice there barely was any salmon. The crab dip is a hit or miss on thickness but has great flavor! Bathrooms aren’t bad and tables seem fairly clean. No wait and pick your own table.

Google
I enjoyed myself here, I came in the day and order the softshell crab on that buttery bun omg it was my first time trying so it was a full experience. The crab itself was seasoned perfectly and it was so steamy it burnt my lip a little bit and I swear thats not a complaint. The fries were delish as well. I have to come here more often! Everyone speaks even the chefs and it made the experience feel extremely warm. My server was a sweet girl too. No crumbs Wabi...

Yelp
The best thing about this place is the decor, the vibe is great. On a Tuesday night, it was quiet and cozy. We had a party of 7 and we all ordered different things from pasta to sandwiches and sushi. 1. The Cajun pasta was ordered and served without the chicken. We brought it to the waiters attention and he checked the kitchen and came back with the chicken and apologized saying they forgot to add it. 2. We ordered 2 martinis and they were mediocre. Can't say much about it except the espresso martini was not like others I've had in the past. 3. A total of 3 sushi rolls were ordered and 2 came out at the same time. The last roll was the last plate to arrive at our table about 10 mins after the very first plate arrived. As a family we usually don't eat unless everyone has their food first, this was a minor inconvenience for us. 4. I personally ate the kickin salmon and manhattan rolls. Something wasn't right as 15 mins after leaving the restaurant it all came back up. I mention those 2 rolls specifically because I'm the only one that ate those and the only one who got sick. 5. If you order any meal that has rice, be warned they use sushi rich for their regular dishes too. Two people ordered one chicken dish and one fish dish and both were served with sushi rice. 6. THEY DO NOT HAVE SUSHI SALMON. They use SMOKED salmon. As a salmon sushi lover that was the most disappointing part. Overall, not authentic sushi. Kitchen is hit or miss apparently. The only ones who enjoyed their meals were the people who got sandwiches. Waiter was attentive but did need to be called over a few times. He got his 18% automatically for the size of our party. Also bring cash, there is a percentage based fee for card transactions, about $6 for our $132 bill.

Yelp
Came here really looking forward to trying a specific sushi roll, but unfortunately, they didn't have it. They did have a nice wine selection, which I enjoyed. The menu had limited vegetarian options, which was a bit disappointing. The highlight of the visit was definitely the service, our waiter was super friendly and attentive. Overall, it was just okay. Not bad, but not in a rush to come back.

Yelp
Went here with a friend for the first time. There are two sides to sit on in this restaurant, and we sat on the side by the entrance. We were greeted promptly and drink orders taken. Our waitress was nice and pleasant. I ordered the Philly steak wrap with fries covered in crab dip. MDP ordered a Poké bowl with tuna. He said it was really good. The steak wrap was ok. However, it lacked cheese and any type of sauce. It seems the menu doesn't specify. It comes with cheese, but when you read Philly steak you just assume cheese as well and it was pretty dry. The fries were delicious. I couldn't taste any crab in the crab dip that was poured over the fries, but I loved the sauce that also accompanied the crab dip. I believe the waitress said it was a Thai chili sauce or something. She even gave me a little cup of it to take home. It was delicious. But the fries almost had too much crab dip on top of it, and the fries became too mushy to eat. It was like eating a little bit of fry with a lot of dip Overall, it was a nice experience. I think I would just get something else next time.

Yelp
First time visiting, we ordered calamari, wan-sabi burger, mushroom and Swiss burger, Philly roll sushi with lump crab, bagel roll with smoked salmon. The service was pretty good. The ambiance was of normal volume, considering we came around 5pm. Some beat the crowd.
google avatar

Yelp
Have been there a few times. Open mic nights are usually good. However the greatest band ever Sick Of Society Plays there from time to time. So make sure to catch them, I hear they amplify the taste of the food there. service is good too, and the food comes out nice and hot, just like Elijah Sick Of Society's drummer ;).

Yelp
We came to Wabi Sabi for lunch yesterday. Everything we order was great we order the loaded crab fries (soooo good) & several sushi rolls. The sushi was creative & delivious. The customer service was great everyone was very nice & the atmosphere was great. I love that the old buildings are being redone & used.

Yelp
I called to see when they closed ..they said 9:00 walked through the door after driving 275 miles at 8:46 and they wouldn't serve us...

Yelp
Food, service, MIXED DRINKS and ambience was very good. It does have a great energy and vibe. Their mixed drink menu is fantastic- unique and creative. I am not a big sushi eater, but I would try it there since the variety looked incredible. It all sounded like chef-created specialties- normally sushi seems to have the same old types, but the combinations on the menu looked creative. (If I recall correctly, and again- I don't normally eat sushi!!!) I could have sworn there were some sushi with fruit in it? I will check the menu and verify, lol). It was obvious that all the sushi was being prepared fresh and to order. We appreciated that when we walked in the sushi chef told us that the kitchen and sushi bar was running behind, she said the sushi bar was an hour and a half behind because they had run out of rice. She said the kitchen was slightly behind. I appreciated the transparency! Some places don't tell you what is going on and pretend everything is fine while you wait and wait. I appreciated the ability to make that choice for ourselves. We were fine with the kitchen said to be running behind, but by the time I decided to order, we didn't notice any delay- the dishes came up promptly. The food was very good- I had the lamb chops that seemed to have a citrus rice (and there was some kiwi puree somewhere in the rice or lamb chops. My significant other got the andouille sausage pasta tasted really, really rich and heavy, (it was too much for me( but the finely, thinly cut "lollipop style" lamb chops were nicely braised (?) in herbs with the citrus rice, and felt light and tasty. The lobster/crab fries were great, too.

Yelp
This place was a train wreck. Fish quality was extremely poor. I had salmon and yellowtail sashimi and both were slimy, the roll was small and barely held together. The waitress first brought me smoked salmon sashimi, instead of fresh like I ordered. I asked for no onions on the roll, of course there was onions. The craziest part is that this place was very expensive! I am really praying I do not get sick. I had high hopes but was extremely disappointed. You couldn't pay me to come back here. Ive been to Japan 4 times and eat sushi on a more than weekly basis, this is the worst I have ever had. Wish 0 stars was an option.

Cindy L.

Yelp
Food is good but on our recent visit an employee was in the. ok area coughing, on his phone and took a puff on his ecig. Hopefully this will be addresseed. We were there in the evening.

Yelp
Came to this hole in the wall on a total whim and couldn't stop discussing over dinner how rare it is to like a restaurant that we choose randomly. Our server Peter was super friendly and knowledgeable. He let us know the restaurant was out of some things from the holiday weekend, which I took to be a good sign and it was! At his recommendation we got the Korean BBQ for our appetizer and loved it. It was literally so delicious-- we got a lot of smaller-sized but crisp-ily delicious bone-in wings (over 10) for $13. I got a shrimp tempura roll with cucumber and loved it, although they did fall apart easily. My guess is because I only got two items, so it was abnormally small. My boyfriend got the ss tuna roll deep fried and thought it was amazing. Also at Peter's suggestion we ordered the apple cheesecake and although we haven't eaten it yet, it looks amazing and smells even better .

Gregg S.

Yelp
My party of ten had a decent time at Wabi Sabi. The building is older and has a quaint aesthetic. There are multiple areas that have many options to dine in including a Martini Bar with live music, downstairs has a bar and quieter ambiance. The service was decent. The drinks came but took a while to get together. The food was served to us slowly and each diner had to wait several minutes in between drop-offs. Several hot dishes were served Luke warm to cold. We had to send the lamb chop Lollie's back because they were cold. The sushi is delicious but it was all delivered near the end of the meal. Overall drinks were great, food was decent but cold, and the service could have been more organized.

Yelp
Good food and drinks, great service. Welcomed with a smile and very attentive. The sushi was very fresh. I recommend Wabi Sabi
google avatar

Yelp
The most unique sushi rolls in the Petersburg area! My daughter and I were told to give this place a chance and it didn't disappoint! Narita (Chester) USED to be my fave, but Wabi Sabi has officially blown that out of the water! The variety and creativity in their rolls are top tier. Also. the spicy injection of Cajun fare is inspired! We purchased eight different rolls based in the recommendation of our server. Each one was fantastic! You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Absolutely the best hot lump crab dip!! You have to try it. Love their spicy tuna roll
google avatar

Yelp
Good sushi, good beer , good service. Live music (Thursday) @Skizii (OG) Bianca & Christine (split personality) we're Both a delight. Show up with tough skin & you'll love the place.

Yelp
Wabi Sabi is a quaint little restaurant in downtown Petersburg. They have a vast variety of sushi rolls and sandwiches. We were greeted by the hostess and bartender. Our server was very attentive. This is a great place to stop and get a drink and get your sushi fix. We ordered the She Crab Soup, edamame, seaweed salad, salt and pepper calamari and ahi tuna entrée.
google avatar

LadyE E.

Yelp
I always order the lollipop lambchops here and some sushi but I was shocked when they brought this out... never again as these where way smaller than they usually are and they where not nearly as thick.. when I say small I mean like thin porkchops... shame on them. Cost going up and quality going way down. First the shrinking crab dip portion size now the lambchops. Save yourself time and eat somewhere else.
google avatar

Meagan C.

Yelp
The food doesn't taste good and is expensive. The rice was hard the cucumber was also hard to the point it was hard to chew. I got two rolls, on both rolls you could tell which pieces were the ends because those pieces were just rice and seaweed. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Yelp
Really enjoyed coming here for my first time eating sushi. I'm not really a fan of undercooked anything so I tried The Who Dat Roll with tilapia, crawfish, asparagus and spicy Mayo... SO GOOD! Will come back to try more. Will say, my friend tried the curry and was not a fan at all. Very bland. Ambience was great, our service was poor. The waitress came to our table of 3 maybe once and the place barely had people in it. We had to wave down one of the men to take our order after waiting forever.

Blair C.

Yelp
Sat down at restaurant and had water brought to the table, both glasses has black specs floating around in them. I am assuming it is from not cleaning their ice machine. We brought it to the waitresses attention and she didn't even apologize, we promptly left. Can't speak to her the quality or cleanliness of the food.

Kaitlyn W.

Yelp
If I could give a 0 I could . The waitress was rude and over charged me for items . The spicy sushi was so spicy my throat was on fire and then she refused to take it off my tab . She wasn't attentive and didn't give us our food that we had set aside to go . She then

Yelp
So disappointed in this place. I had a craving for sushi, and after choosing Wabi Sabi, I definitely should have gone somewhere else! It was one customer seated when we walked in, so there was no wait. It smelled like vinegar as soon as we hit the door. We sat and ordered our drinks. I had the shrimp tempura roll and the spicy crab roll along with the crab dip appetizer. The sushi was not good! It was bland and very chewy. The spicy crab wasn't spicy at all and the shrimp tempura ''twas kind of soggy. The crab dip was good (hence the one star). The waitress wasn't too friendly, and quite frankly a bit rude. My friend got 3 refills of her tea before I got a refill of my water, which I had to ask for! I probably won't ever go back and don't recommend this place.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
So the ratings are pretty fair for this place. It has a lot going for it. Nice ambiance, friendly staff, and good service. The food was just ok and unremarkable. On the downside, the value is very poor. For instance, I ordered hamachi rolls and for $7 they were so small there was hardly anything there to eat. Also, for the few items we ordered, it took forever for food to come out. They admitted they forgot to put our order in the computer. "Sorry!" was about all they could do. Not enough positives for a repeat trip.
google avatar

Mandy M.

Yelp
The service was great and the draft selection was great, the sushi was so so at beast, the ambiance is off, it's dark and weird seating. I got the spicy salmon roll and it was so over loaded with spicy Mayo you couldn't taste anything else. It's very important that Nigiri is super cold in my opinion and I was off put by the temperature of the salmon.

Dee D.

Yelp
First time at Wabi-Sabi, my new favorite place. The presentation of the food was excellent, compliments to the chef, Tempura, Sabi, Smoked Salmon and Ahi Tuna rolls were mind blowing good. We enjoyed the Fuji Apple and Peach Blossom Sake. We had two servers and they were both excellent, Christopher stood out more so, he was so accommodating we thought he was Management. And the price for everything was value added for how much we ordered.
google avatar

Sara P.

Yelp
So we just got out, and the place is really cute, like hole in the wall typeshit. When you search it up on google it says sushi but going inside that's not their specialty at all. We order it anyways and it is good sushi wise, but we waited for our food for like two HOURS. Our waiter I believe mentioned he said he was new but like no sushi should take two hours to prepare it wasn't THAT good. The place was empty, I think he mentioned saying he hadn't put in our order and I did try being as nice as possible but when I saw a table who came in way after us I got pissed off for real I'm not sure again it wasn't bad just wouldn't go again.
google avatar

Angela D.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that we went here post-COVID (June 20, 2020). Food was okay. Slow service considering that they weren't that crowded. Staff was nice and my salad and boyfriend's burger was good.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
Would put 0 stars if I could. Do NOT come here for food or water. Water has the weirdest after-taste and present-taste. Taste like they sprinkle raw ass flakes in the water prior to serving. The Bagel Roll we ordered was okay I guess, DO NOT ORDER THE EEL SAUCE. It tastes sour when, if you know what eel sauce tastes like, SHOULD NOT BE SOUR. Spicy Tuna Roll was not spicy and didnt have any flavor what so ever, even after they add seasoning on top of it! Im scared for my stomach post-consumption and Im warning yall stay away from this joint. They're live band was lit tho, but they look creepy as hell.
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
Really great sushi! Tempura spicy tuna and surf and turf rolls are to die for. A great spot to eat in or pick up takeout!
google avatar

Robert N.

Yelp
Service was slow, never refilled water and sushi was meh... Lots of rice, not much fish. Not recommended unless you're dying for some sushi and you have no other options.
google avatar

Bill C.

Yelp
After reading through some of the reviews and being in the area I thought I would stop by to check out this place. I chose a time when I thought that it would not be busy and so my service was quick. Wait staff was somewhat pleasant though they could've been a little bit more happy. Sushi was on par with what I get at Kroger, but for 3x the cost. The exception to this was the tuna which itself would have been a 4/5 stars, and the only reason this review is a three instead of a two star review. Looks like on weekends it might be a fun hipster bar but I'll probably check out another sushi place if I'm in the area again. Note that if you get water with your meal, it tastes as if they went out back and got it from the river, but with ice.

Lee C.

Yelp
Tried the restaurant for the first time and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Live entertainment is available on the weekend. Service was good and the drinks and food were reasonably priced.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
I definitely do not recommend this spot for sushi unless you are super super desperate because there doesn't seem to be any good sushi in Petersburg. This place is in dire need of a renovation. Also there is not much fish in the sushi and the miso soup was super salty. There is too much rice on the sushi roll and way too much vinegar. Drive a little further to Chester and find a good sushi spot over there .. this was not worth it.
google avatar

Miguel G.

Yelp
Worst sushi I ever had in my life. The rice for the rolls tasted stale. The chicken Alfredo was a joke. For $18 you got enough chicken for a kid to eat. I do not recommend at all.
google avatar

LaCora H.

Yelp
I like Olde Town. People. Arts. Food. Looking for some light items to share at the table we ordered three rolls, wings, and calamari. While the sushi was good - it had more warmth to it then the calamari did. (?) The wings had a really good sauce but I wish they had come to the table hotter. The band started at 9 which was too late for us dining at 7. I wish they'd started playing earlier.
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
Great sushi. They used to have live music. Was my first sushi experience. I enjoyed the large rolls , some were warm.

Amber S.

Yelp
Our sandwiches were wrong. They fixed the issue, but then the fries were cold when they brought our plates back. My kid ordered just a side of fries, and they came out about 20 minutes after everyone else's food. Servers were not around much and took a really long time to bring anything we asked for. It wasn't a great first experience.
google avatar

Erica D.

Yelp
While the quality of the food is usually good quality, i have now had three experiences where the customer service was poor. I spend (or should I say used to spend as this was my final time giving it a try) at least 60$ a week here and i always tip well. Service is a very important paet of the customer experience and the last few weeks the delivery of good customer service has been lacking. I attempted to reaxh out to the owners privately with the first realy bad experiemce and received no response. Today, i repeatedly communicated ovee the phone that no massago shoiuld be added to my order due to pregnancy. The server insisted there was no masago on this roll although I get it kike twice a week right now and know that ir originally comes with masago. The server finally afkmoledged that i said no masago but then i get my order home ans there is masago! As i stated previously, customer service is extremely important. I will not be going back to ANY of the eatabliahments owned by these owners as they clearly do not value the importance of taking care of the customer.

Harry T.

Yelp
Food was way overpriced for what you get. Service was very good at the beginning, but after we were served or sever seemed to disappear. We had to ask for refills on drinks several times. Nothing special here. Probably won't go back.
google avatar

Jenn K.

Yelp
Came to this small little joint. Was not impressed with bland decor and seating, but decided to give it a try. Appetizers were amazing! Food was delicious! Sushi was really good. Would have given higher stars....but was super grossed out by sushi preparer (after eating the sushi) and watching him constantly scratch his head and fool around with his hair/dreads. Don't know if he needed a wash, or was just obsessed with his hair. It was THAT bad!! After being totally shocked how much his hands were in his hair in kitchen/prep area in front of other staff and customers, I then witnessed him start messing with food and things in prep area after having his hands in his hair for 15 mins, without washing his hands or putting on gloves. I was completely disgusted and will probably never order sushi if I go back.
google avatar

Penelope H.

Yelp
With only 3 1/2 stars, our party didn't except much from Wabi Sabi, but having spent over an hour looking for a place to eat that had non-meat options on Memorial Day, we decided to try it out. While I likely won't be back (I'm located in the Northeast), if I had an opportunity I would definitely go again. We ordered: chicken gyro with fries (requested paprika and lemon on top), sweet potato roll, Manhattan roll (California roll with smoked salmon though I requested it to be cooked fully), Volcano roll, and Caterpillar roll. We ordered a side of white rice. For dessert we ordered fried banana which was like a banana funnel cake with chocolate syrup, blueberries, strawberries and vanilla ice cream. Everything was fresh and presented beautifully. The decor was gorgeous. My only problem was that the service was slow, but it was understandable as she was both the waitress and hostess for the entire restaurant.
google avatar

Christopher G.

Yelp
Most Satisfactory. The tempura green beans were fantastic as were the spring rolls. My wife had one of the burgers which left her licking her fingers. I had the Thai Basil Beef, which left me wishing I had a loaf of bread to soak up every bit of the broth. On a previous visit I had the sushi and nigiri which were solid. I especially liked the eel. They have a huge range of "Modern Martinis". I'm old school, so I had a dirty martini which was quite satisfactory. Tons of parking across the street, and it's good for class dinner/lunch if you are doing something at Ft Lee, just call ahead.

Yelp
Introducing some friends to all the great restaurants in Petersburg Old Town... I gave them a few to choose from and they picked Wabi -Sabi . Great choice !!! There is 2 areas of dining on the first floor and seating area downstairs . We chose the upstairs area where the bar is and the music. Great atmosphere and the service rolled at a good pace through our dining experience . My friends ordered the calamari appetizer and it was cooked perfectly . Crisp and light not chewy . Then we made our selection of Sushi . We were very pleased with the way they rolled . Our sushi was fresh and delicious . It made Miso happy ... My friends we impressed with Wabi-Sabi.

Amy M.

Yelp
Not worth the trip off the highway. It's what you might expect from a landlocked sushi place.
google avatar

Everett W.

Yelp
Came in with a party of 8. Sat downstairs and immediately impressed with the service and the decor. Server was attentive and handled us with ease. Ordered the crab lobster burger and it was great. All real meat with none of that filler mess. We also ordered the TNT rolls and those were great and plentiful as well. Overall no one in our party had a issue. Everyone kept saying this would not be our last visit. I was so impressed i went back a few days later and ordered The Who day rolls and listened to the mama Juana band. This is definitely I happening place in old town Petersburg.

Yelp
New to town. Was looking for a sushi spot and just found this place! Extremely friendly people! Server and food was amazing! I'll be back next weekend

Yelp
We had a party of 12 that chose this place to discuss arrangements for our grandfather who had passed the night before. We called ahead around lunch time for a 7pm arrival and the person on the phone said they would let "them" know. We did not arrive all at once but those who got there first were told they couldn't sit us all together "because of staffing" and were visibly annoyed that we were even there. So we left and walked down the street to Longstreets Deli which had one cook on that night, only one server, and two bartenders. We got great food, great service and great drinks. Wabi sabi lost over $1000 in sales and over $400 in tips for the server because of their crappy attitude. None of us will be back.

Rosie A.

Yelp
My husband an I had a great experience at Wabi Sabi! We came in on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy. Carrie was a phenomenal hostess and waitress! She was incredibly attentive and made sure our glasses were never empty. We didn't wait long for our drinks & food. We ordered 3 rolls (surf & turf, seaside delight, and rainbow)- all three were delicious & fresh!! We had a sundae for dessert- incredible! Definitely recommend Wabi Sabi!
