While Wabisabi has a mission statement we can all get behind, I was terribly disappointed with their poor sense of service and honor today.
I've made a tradition of visiting Wabisabi every time I'm in Moab. Today they had a large whiteboard in the center of the store, advertising "buy one, get one FREE, lawn and garden items".
We got excited about the sale, picked our two items and went up to the counter. As we stood waiting for the cashier, she didn't acknowledge us, and helped the person who was behind us. Okay, this happens, so we were patient.
When it was our turn, we were disappointed when she told us she didn't know about that sale. She checked with a co-worker who said that was yesterday's sale. We explained that we had seen the sign and they sent someone back who confirmed it was there, then wiped the board and told us they were sorry that the items would both be regular price.
We asked "will you really NOT honor your advertised price?" They just said "sorry" and we decided not to buy either item, and NOT TO SHOP THERE ANYMORE.
I get that the posted sale was an oversite, and we were not trying to take advantage of anyone, but let's look at the facts.
1. This is a thrift store where inventory has been DONATED. The business would not lose money by honoring their sale.
2. They are inventory rich and space poor. It couldn't hurt to get two more items off the floor.
3. Over a simple $10, Wabisabi has lost a customer. This hurts future sales.
Outside of this, it's just a dirty old thrift shop that helps a lot of people, just maybe not so much their direct customers.
