Wizard’s Beer Festival Coming to Boston - Eater Boston

"Wachusett Brewing Company will open a taproom at the Worcester Public Market, overlooking Kelley Square. It will span about 3,000 square feet, and will serve areas of the market’s food court, as well as outdoor plaza seating. The market as a whole could open early this fall." - Dana Hatic

Venue is nice. Beer is delicious. Staff is incredible. BBQ is just ok, but im from Texas so im bias. The make shift tent area has bad acoustics for music. Overall very nice experience and the staff is top notch. 4.5 stars if there were halves.

Google
Beer and atmosphere are fantastic but plan on waiting if you order food…… On average I’ve waited a half hour which is fine if I was notified ahead of time there would be a wait but nope. That’s really my only complaint the beer is fantastic as is the food. I really do like this place but I get Hangry so just give people the heads up on the wait times.

Google
We enjoyed our food, however we had to keep covering our food with napkins due to the amount of flies inside. I liked being able to order via app, but I do not feel like I should have to give a mandatory 20% tip that I wasn't aware of. We waited over 35 minutes for our food, and had to keep getting up to go get our own drinks, napkins etc. I am not sure what that large tip was for. We will not return.

Google
This place is huge with about a. hundred tables outside. The staff is friendly. We started in the store to check out their IPA's for sale. Then, we went in for a flight, and the server recommended 4 IPA's out of their 7. We prefer an IPA that is not too juicy. Before we left, we bought a six pack of their 8.5 IPA for home and a variety pack as a house gift. Each table has a QR code, so you can order from the kitchen and have it brought to your table. The entire menu is also online.

Google
I really like the place. My favorite is the blueberry ale. Have had my share of strawberry ale as well. We’ve been there for music bingo, and just a regular night with pretzels, chicken bbq pizza and drinks. It’s a fun place in the middle of nowhere. Make it a point to stop in. They also host outdoor events, trivia and live bands. Lots of fun in a place that’s been making it happen since 1994.

Google
Perfect stop to unwind when traveling to see a friend nearby. Plenty of parking and great indoor space with good atmosphere. Different rooms and areas to spread out so all patrons are comfortable. Family friendly and food menu to snack or indulge in as needed. Had to say really enjoyed on a cold December night the outside patio with large gas fireplace and live music in the large heated tent out back. Brews wise I thought all the beers were great. Especially enjoyed their porter and blueberry ale. Will stop back again when in the area. Cheers!!

Google
I hate to say this but I do not recommend getting food here. Got sick from the pulled pork sandwich this past weekend and called the location a couple days after it happened to let them know and they said they would have a supervisor reach out to me the next day and I did not receive a call back. Really unfortunate because I do like going to Wachusett 1-2 times a summer and making a day out of it after a good hike but after this experience I will not be getting any food here in the future. This being said this should not detour anyone from getting their delicious Blueberry Ale and other great drinks but I do not recommend getting food here.

Google
Huge space with indoor and outdoor seating area for every season. Perfect space for an event or just grabbing a beer on a beautiful Saturday. Delicious beer options for everyone. I enjoyed their berry sour and Oktoberfest ale.

Yelp
Food was amazing - great for kids as well (aka amazing chicken tenders)! Beers & Pizza were great!

Yelp
Do not order gift cards from the website. After several days of mystery concerning one I ordered through the website (after which the screen said my payment had been processed, but it never came and I never got a confirmation email), I've called and filled out the "contact us" forms several times. I just got the answer that they don't DO them anymore. They seem to have digital ones, and yet that's not an option on the website and they don't sell them in the retail store, so I can't imagine how people purchase them. They said will look into updating their website, but as of right now you will only cause yourself stress by purchasing one. The food, beer and other beverages at the Westminster location (and presumably the others) are great and it's our favorite brewery by far. However, I ended up ordering a gift card from another brewery which I don't particularly like as the birthday gift, since this one never came. The other brewery sent a confirmation email instantly and the recipient received it at exactly when it said he would. So, it pays to not have an antiquated website...!

Yelp
5-star atmosphere, 5-star bar food, and 4-star beer to round out this awesome hangout spot in Westminster! I've heard great things about Wachusett brewery and have been sending friends here for ages, so it was about time I made the hour-long drive from Boston to check it out for myself. The brew yard here is massive with tons of picnic tables and beautiful trees scattered throughout. On a Saturday in late May it was busy, but still easy to find a table. There was great live music and tons of families with kids and dogs, you really couldn't ask for a better vibe. We brought our pup along and kids were stopping by constantly to pet her, so if your dog is reactive at all, just keep in mind that there's a lot going on here. There's lots of additional seating, bathrooms, games, a merch shop, and a really cool airstream bar indoors as well. I tried both the Wally Juice (which I loved, but the blood orange flavor was a little much for my husband's taste), and the Blueberry Ale (a summer favorite of mine - you're probably not a beer drinker in Mass if you haven't tried this one already). Overall, their draft list is pretty heavy on the fruit flavors and hard seltzers, which isn't our usual taste, but it plays well with the outdoor summer-time vibes. We decided to split the wings and nachos with pulled pork for lunch and were blown away by both. The Buffalo Lemon Pepper dry rub on the wings is an absolute must-try. Portion sizes are generous and we couldn't finish two apps between the two of us. My only complaint is that I wished I lived closer so I could visit more often! Will be back whenever I'm in the area :)
google avatar

Tom S.

Yelp
It's a pub menu. Don't come for an upscale menu. Chicken wings are awesome. Flatbreads & nacho platter are a must try. Sorry no pics - ate them too fast. lol The "Brew-yard" always has 10-12 beers on tap, all made here. Seasonal selections, winter, pumpkin etc all yummy. They also offer "beyond beer" seltzers in cans and on draft. My better half always gets a Moscow Mule Seltzer! Check out the Facebook page as there's another location down in Worcester. Great staff, great beer, food & entertainment schedule. A must visit place out in Westminster, Ma.

Yelp
I can imagine that it can get pretty busy here judging by some of these reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of food and beer options as well as the outdoor seating and live music. My wife dog and I hiked Mt. Wachusett and got there when they opened. We snagged a bench far away from everyone to enjoy some privacy before it got too busy. Both the burger and pulled pork sandwich were great and my wife got to get her first pumpkin beer of the Fall. The live music started right as we were leaving, and it was really easy to cash out and clean up. Can't wait to return after our next hike!

Yelp
Great spot to hang with friends, have a beer and listen to some great music! Friendly staff and plenty of places to sit. For a brewery they have an impressive food menu with something for everyone. Appreciate that they offer ciders and seltzers!

Yelp
Wonderful vibe, beer, service and food. Perched on the bar stools of the reinvented Airstream camper inside the brewery, we enjoyed fresh beers and a drink menu extended to include sangria, margaritas and more. The kitchen serves equally fresh food including smoked/bbq meats Fri-Sun. The servers are delightful at the bar and very friendly. We enjoyed a variety of beers on tap including their signature Country and Blueberry ales as well as a tasty jazzy IPA and the white sangria. The BBQ plate is a great deal. You smell the smoker inside and out. The ribs were meaty and juicy. The Jamaican smoked half chicken was juicy and well balanced with spice. The fire pit beans were amazing. Local sweet corn seemed cooked to order. Tasty cornbread topped it off. My wife had a Caesar salad. I got the better deal. We then went outside to listen to a talented solo guitarist and singer. Really nice experience.

Yelp
Stopped there for the 1st time , had my usual blueberry beer, so good . Loved the atmosphere, ordered a couple of things off the menu , everything came out great .

Regina V.

Yelp
I meet friends here at least once a montj, Always a good time. Great atmosphere and great menu.

David S.

Yelp
The burger was delicious and the bread was fluffy and fresh. The beer was fantastic and the beer flight made my wife happy. It's a win!
google avatar

Yelp
You think you're going for beer but if you don't get the BBQ with some sweet corn, you're missing out. The sweet corn was unbelievable, and certainly deserves to be the first side dish chosen. It complements the meat well and the taste pays homage to southern food. As for the meat, it was smoked to perfection leaving it juicy and delicious, no need for a knife. We enjoyed the pulled pork, brisket, and pork belly burnt ends. Complement your meal with your choice of brew. I recommend the Mango Sour IPA. Well balanced, it offers the fullness of an IPA with just enough of a fruity sourness to be tasty without making your mouth contort. Add the backdrop of live music and you have yourself a great, and affordable, night out. P.S. the bar staff is wonderful and very attentive.

Yelp
I want to love this place, but I can't. We have been twice. The good things are there are plenty of seating options for inside and out. The outdoor area is fun with its own bar and several picnic tables. They have a nice selection of beer and the bartenders are always friendly. I personally love how they had a variety of fruit beers, which are my favorite. Everything is self serve, walk up bar, QR Code for menu and order and pay on your phone. There is little to no staff walking around checking on people. The food is average nothing exciting. Our last visit we ordered wings, which were flavorful, but a little dry. A pretzel which was average and a salad which was fresh, but nothing excited. We had to wait almost an hour for our food. I'm not sure if it was on them or me messing up our order by doing it through my phone. If you are going with friends to hang out and enjoy a beer it's a good spot, but I would not return for their food.

Yelp
As long time fans of Wachusett Blueberry, we have always wanted to stop by. This fall, we finally did! We had a great time and enjoyed trying some of the different flavors that they offer in the tap room. They have plenty of space, outdoor games and tables, and lots of delicious snacks to choose from too! Don't sleep on their homemade potato chips - OMG YUM. This is a great spot to stop if you are in the area for a hike or skiing. Make sure to grab some cans to go because you will be craving it when you get home - trust me!

Yelp
This brewery was the best ending to our 3 hour hike at a nearby mountain. We came in hungry and this place satisfied all of our cravings plus drinking needs. The sizes are great for sharing and came out fast. It was still a warmer fall evening so it was nice to sit outdoor by there warm fire pit. Additionally there is a lot of indoor seating plus a tent coverage. It was sweet to be outdoors as there were other dogs there to keep us company.

Yelp
The best selection of beers of all the breweries we've visited (this was #9). We arrived early afternoon and it was still fairly quiet. There was a parking attendant instructing everyone where to park and when we went inside we were greeted and they entered our credit card into the system. We were also given an order card that was to order any food from on our phone (unfortunately, I had crappy cell service there and couldn't open the menu to even look. We did see some nice pizzas being ordered though. We went up to the inside trailer and my partner was happy there was quite a few selections that weren't IPA's and I was happy to have hard seltzer's to order. We ordered our first round and drank them inside. For our second round (we settled up our check at this time) we took our drinks out on the patio and sat near the fire pit (it was a little chilly out). We loved this place and would definitely come back again...if it was closer we'd come frequently!

Yelp
This was a really fun place and great for a Sunday afternoon. The beer flights were $10 and I really enjoyed their pumpkin beer. The classic wachusett blueberry was also very good and is one of my favorites. The food was also pretty good, I had gotten chicken wings and my friends had a sandwich. It was just very cold inside because they have a tent and a lot of outdoor seating, which is great for the summer, but not so much for the transition into fall in New England.

Yelp
Great place to enjoy great music, food and great beers. Service always top notch! Great place to gather with friends.

Jim G.

Yelp
I used to be a loyal customer before the renovations when you just went there for the beer. I still have two of the 4oz glasses that were supposed to get you free samples any time you went in there, but that stopped after the renovations. They literally laughed in my face and called people over to look at these old relics from five years ago. That's not how you treat a loyal customer. When you make a promise, you should honor it, especially to people who supported you in the beginning. That fact that they don't shows a complete lack of integrity. I was also disappointed with their focus on fruity beers over some of the IPAs they used to have that were pretty good. Fruity beers are not my thing. I got the strawberry beer for guests one time and it was the worst beer I ever had in my life. I ended up dumping it down the drain.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved going here apres-ski! The nachos were incredible and the beers were so creative. I especially loved the hazelnut stout. Service was friendly and the ambiance is fun because of its unique decor (beer served out of an Airstream and keg sinks). The cover band adding live music to the scene was also a nice touch :). We'll definitely be back to hang here post skiing!
google avatar

Vinny E.

Yelp
What an impressive facility. Great outdoor beer garden, fun inside Airstream bar, nice outdoor fire pit, and great service.
google avatar

Candice C.

Yelp
This place is a hidden jewel! The beer is awesome! The grounds and staff are welcoming and makes you feel like you are at a family picnic. Now the bbq.. omg it is the best bbq around! The burnt ends are amazing and little bites of heaven. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Given the size of the building, both indoor and outdoor space, and the ample parking (I think they have a spillover lot?), this is clearly a spot to bring a group of any size for food and drink. The relatively large bar inside handles a line fairly quickly. From a beer perspective as a dark beer lover, I was disappointed in their limited selection here. They had something called a coconut blonde stout - three words which I do not believe go well together - but I was quite happy with their porter. Fans of sours, IPAs, wheat beers, etc., will be very happy here. Flights are very reasonably priced. And during peak foliage season, you get a nice view outside.
google avatar

Nicole D.

Yelp
Super cool place. Lots of room for activities. They have outside available for the warmer months. Lots of different beer options. We sat at the airstream bar and the service was great. Would definitely try again for some more food and drinks

Yelp
Long drive from close in to Boston, first time there. This might be a 3.5 star review if I could do it. Parking was full up but there are several different spaces including a large outdoor area with lots of happy people and dogs. Tried a flight of 4 beers, and I'd say all were fine but fairly average and like too many beer brands they have WAY too many IPAs. They have an outdoor bar but you have to all the way inside to get a flight. Ordering system interesting but had issues; started a tab indoors and give my CC and was told I could use that tab outdoors but I had to re-enter all of my info. Also kitchen was out of a lot of bbq items and it still let me order one of those. I'd say the food was way too expensive and quality again just ok - $9 for one cob of Mexican street corn is ridiculous. Do better on the food quality and prices and brew some better options and this would probably get a better rating from me.

David S.

Yelp
The food is done by a local restaurant owner who has a great reputation at his other two places. The fish tacos are excellent and the pulled pork is fresh and tasty.

Alexandra V.

Yelp
The prices keep going up and it's a shame because the atmosphere is great in any season. Staff is always friendly and they always have tons of activities going on. I would just be ready to spend $$$$

Erin R.

Yelp
awesome food! awesome people! awesome atmosphere!!! Any negative reviews need to be deleted because we have been coming here forever and have never ever had a bad experience! Love Westminster and worcester!!! great nachos and chicken fingers -

Yelp
What a find! We would have never found it if we had not been hungry (jet lagged , going on 16 hours no food!) and it was mentioned on the "Food Next Exit" sign along the road. So glad they paid for that advertisement! A short back road drive and we arrived. I grew up in the 413 and 617. So, I chatted up the bartender inside. He was delightful and found my history of the Pioneer Valley charming. A rarity for us cold New Englanders. :) Hard to believe it started here in 1994 when we were still going to the packie thinking Sam Adams was decent. They encourage you to sit outside and all food stations are out there. You can also order merch and beer outside, but they have a larger beer selection inside. The lines were not long and they give you a puck so they can ping you when your food is ready. We had the big pretzel and a pastrami sandwich. We sat at a picnic table. They were soooo good! I had the brown ale and DH had the milk stout. Both were delicious. Truly, what a find! There are outdoor games, no cost. There is live music from time to time. It's crowded with families - yeah, let's not get me started b/c I have a wicked sailor mouth when I drink. There is plenty of parking and a parking attendant to help ease the flow when it gets crowded. Call ahead or check website for current hours. Mark this on your next weekend outing bucket list. You can tip the servers as a thank you to me for encouraging your visit. You will not regret it!
google avatar

Matthew A.

Yelp
Mid-summer afternoon stop on a clearing skies weekend was just the ticket to enjoy a few cold ones. Kicked back in the picnic area and chilled out to the excellent tunes of Maddi Ryan Band. The "Woo-ster" was a great thirst quenching IPA at 7% - not bitter and tasted great in the summer warmth. The "Wally" follow-up was equally good - orangey/grapefruit flavors packaged nicely in another pleasant 7% IPA chased the humidity away. There's a small food menu with bar type apps as well as pizza. Decent snacking material if you don't want to bring your own cooler of food. You won't be disappointed in a summer afternoon spent here amongst the trees and picnic tables.
google avatar

Yelp
i love this place!! their food is so great, and it's honestly really well priced! they have live entertainment most nights, and the waitstaff is amazing

Yelp
Up visiting from Louisiana and we went to Wachusett Brewing - fantastic atmosphere and great brew selection. 5 stars easy
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of seating and nice outdoor area. Enjoyed the beer flights to find which we preferred. And decent menu and really enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. A little bit of a drive for us but a great place to visit and meet with friends.

Yelp
So we have been coming here for a few years and LOVE the place. Great beer, great setting, great food. However they changed the food menu recently and it bums me out. Their loaded fries were pulled pork with coleslaw, cheese, and BBQ sauce and we hardcore CRAVED these things all the time. For some reason they were pulled from the menu, then pulled the successor (poutine fries). PLEASE for the love of all that is holy bring back the loaded fries. We need them.
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
Great local spot. I think I'm going to have to throw a party this summer at Wachusett Brew Yard for my local co-worlers and Yelp followers. There is ni hard liquor here so be prepared for that. This place is dog friendly as well when the outdoor seating is open. Pulled chicken nachis are suoer yummy!
google avatar

Suzanne M.

Yelp
My first trip to The Brew Yard was for the Worcester's Bravest Release party. And while I didn't care for the actual beer they released (not a wheat beer fan), I was impressed by the collaboration with Wormtown to raise money for such a good cause. I'm an IPA fan there are many great ones to choose from. I did not eat here, so cannot comment on the food. Now, for the brewery itself... it was so much bigger than I expected, and it was packed. Lots of places to sit, stand, or play... and I can imagine how enjoyable the outside space is when the weather gets warmer. Who doesn't enjoy beer by the firepit? Wachusett Brewing company is a little out of the way for me, but well worth a return trip. I'll be back!

Patrick J.

Yelp
Great food and great beer. Their Blueberry Ale while very popular still lives up to the hype for me. We went on a beautiful Saturday afternoon after hiking Wachusett mountain and it was pretty crowded. Their outside dining area had a bunch of picnic tables, TVs, and a live performance. While there were many people hanging out at the tables, the line to get seated for the outside area went fairly quickly from what I saw. We were pretty hungry so decided to forgo the line and got seated in the patio area directly outside of the inside dining area. This will all make much more sense when you go. Food was way better than expected. Chips and salsa are nothing special, but my burger was juicy and delicious. Fries were also crunchy and seemed freshly made. You can't go wrong with this option. The ordering process was pretty cool. You can scan for the menu on QR code's they hand out to you. Once you decide what you want on the menu you can text your order in. The system they have in place seemed pretty effective. We got everything we wanted with no hiccups. My only problem with this entire thing was that our order of food took over an hour to get to the table. They do give you a time estimate when you order so you know what to expect, but still seemed a little long to me. Despite that, the food was still amazing! A must have if you're in the area.
google avatar

Lydie D.

Yelp
The beers aren't my most favorite but they have a good selection-especially the ipas. The outdoor space is GREAT for kids and dogs, and the food is tasty and well set up for outdoor seating
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
I turned 21 3 months ago and became a fast regular at Wachusett Brew Yard. They have some of the best food and beer in the area. Today however was a whole different level of amazing. Today marked 17 years cancer free for me, and as such I decided to celebrate. I was greeted by the always friendly staff and I placed an order and was enjoying myself as usual. The manager came over to say hello and I told him of the reason I was there on a Thursday at 2. The staff went above and beyond for me and I cannot thank them enough. If you get a chance to go and make some memories here, I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Really good beer and it feels like an event going there. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, after a hike. Wanted a burger and a beer and we were in the neighborhood. I'll give the bar an "A" for ease of ordering, and of course, the local brew is pretty nice... The eating area is a tent-style building with picnic tables. Ordering involves scanning a QR code and putting in the order. It appears that one server, a very nice but definitely overworked young woman, was bringing trays of food to the tables. No complaints about the process of ordering or the wait. Our food came, as ordered in an amount of time that seemed reasonable. The delivery; 2 juicy burgers, fries, a salad, and coleslaw, was made in one move with a few packets of ketchup and two characteristic utensil-salt-pepper-napkin packages. By the time you can size up your delivery and realize; Hey I'm gonna need some real napkins for these burgers. Hey the salad is kinda dry, we're gonna need more dressing. Not enough ketchup etc... The server is gone. You have to intercept her during one of her other deliveries and she will accomodate... The burgers were nice. (You wouldn't want a brewery not to get burgers right...) So were the fries, and the coleslaw wasn't bad either. I'll give the Caesar Salad a B-, once we had enough dressing.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our time here! They have a huge outdoor space that's great in the summer time and worth the drive if you aren't local. They have a lot of great beers to choose from

Charles J.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by my visit to Wachusett. I've had their beer for years but have not visited before. To be honest, I never thought too highly of their beers but a visit to the brewery was impressive. They had a large selection, quality merchandise and good service. The brewery itself was nice and had a comfortable atmosphere despite its very large size. I went in a weekday and it was not crowded. I imagine that weekends can pack a crowd. Overall it was a great visit.

Teresa B.

Yelp
Went there with my son and granddaughter today. Can honestly say that it was the worst chicken caesar salad wrap l have ever had. The chicken was WAY overcooked to the point of being burnt. There was hardly any dressing on it so l could only choke down half and brought the rest of the chicken home for my dog. My son ordered the same thing and his was as bad as mine. The fried pickles were good; large sourdough pretzel was a bit overcooked but otherwise ok. There were flies inside the restaurant as well and they were bothersome. l will never go back.

Rob L.

Yelp
Went to Wachusett to eat and drink only to find out they wouldn't honor their gift card because they "changed their system and didn't keep track of the gift card amounts". The gift card is less than 2 yrs old. I highly recommend you don't buy gift cards from Wachusett!

Yelp
kenzie was so nice got me all the beer. i tried on some shirts and she told me i look fabulous. told me all the fun facts about the brewery. PLACE IS DOPE.

Yelp
This place is solid. I've been here twice recently and here are the good things: -The pretzels with that beer cheese are fucking amazing; the buffalo cauliflower is also really good -They are the cleanest port-o-potties I've ever been to -It's super family friendly; I was here with a 6 year old and there were plenty of games to play while drinking a beer The bad: -One particularly busy Saturday night, it took 45 minutes of standing in line to place a food order and another 45 for it to come out. Some folks were requesting refunds because they had been waiting 1.5 hours (allegedly). I had some questions about how a such a small food truck/kitchen can accommodate that volume and that answer is: it can't! If you're able to plan ahead for it, though, and it's honestly not that big of a deal.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. The beer is good, the outside environment is fun. But we have been waiting 3hours for or food & still waiting. People are canceling their food orders left & right. We won't be back.
google avatar

Morgan L.

Yelp
Great ambiance + great service. Tons of dogs, perfect spot if you want to go for a hike with your dog first then swing by here for a bite to eat afterwards. Brought my own pooch, she enjoyed her post-hike snooze under the picnic table. Beer: 10/10 It's a brewing company, the beer is top notch. Margaritas: 6/10 Not terrible but probably won't get another. Flavor was meh and couldn't taste the tequila, not sure if there was any in it? Food: 6/10 Standard pub fare. If you're starving after a long hike this will do the trick. Nothing wowed anyone though. Chicken fingers were okay-ish. Boyfriend said it was probably the worst Mac n' cheese he's ever had. Pretzels were fine.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
Definitely one of my go to brewing companies if I'm looking for outside seating or looking to drive up Mt Wachusett. The fall here is my favorite time to come, it literally just feels so festive.

Yelp
Had an event with 13 people for lunch. Beer was very good and the food was too. You can sit outside or inside and there are plenty of tables so for our group it was perfect - people could stand and talk or sit and eat as the wished. Portions were very generous as well.
