Waffle House in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Closed Ahead of Hurricane Florence | Eater

"The 24-hour restaurant on Myrtle Beach’s Frontage Road has been shuttered until after Hurricane Florence, an unusual move for a chain that rarely closes and is therefore being read as a stark signal of the storm’s severity. Local reports describe the location as “eerily empty” ahead of landfall. Federal emergency officials informally use the chain’s operating status as a quick disaster-recovery barometer — a green/yellow/red rubric that denotes full service, limited service (often on generator power), and complete closure — so a closed outlet is treated as an indicator of particularly dangerous conditions and a trigger for evacuation-level concern. Although the chain typically deploys “jump teams” from other regions to keep restaurants open during disasters, this site’s closure underscores warnings that Florence could be catastrophic, with major flooding expected across the Carolinas and Virginia." - Whitney Filloon

Our first time ever visiting a Waffle House and we were not disappointed! From the moment we walked in we were welcomed by the friendly staff. We loved the atmosphere, had such a nice time chatting with our waitress. The food was awesome! Never had a waffle that good! Everything came out very quick and was great quality! Was a wonderful experience! Thank you to the lovely staff!!

Was on my way to Costco when traffic had other plans—like it knew we needed a Waffle House moment. Kids were hangry, and the wife had that look like, 'What’s the deal with this Waffle House we always see in movies?' So, we made a pit stop. Ordered the All-Star Special for the kids. The waffle? Apparently amazing. How do I know? I didn’t even get a crumb—kids inhaled it faster than I could ask for a bite. The Bacon Cheesesteak™ Melt Plate? Oh, that was mine. Perfectly grilled, cheesy, with hashbrowns so crispy yet soft they should come with a warning label. The Bacon Chicken Cheese Deluxe Plate? It was "juicy perfection" Service? Super friendly and impressively fast. Bonus points for easy parking. Traffic might’ve been a pain, but this detour was worth it.

Food came rather quick once you finally got someone to take your order. Waitress seemed to busy trying to go eat her own food in-between sweating instead of taking break or letting someone else just take the table!

Walked in at 10P with a small group… we were treated and quickly taken care of! Food was ordered and prepared quickly. Drinks were served and we had a great time! The expected experience, from long-time Waffle House patron!

Pretty good experience at this Waffle House. Our waitress was a sweet ole motherly type. Bought my cousin for his 1st Waffle House experience. "What the hell is a grit?" was his 1st question when we told him what the "White Stuff" was. He loved his waffle and wants to go back tomorrow to get another. I got my normal scattered, smothered, covered and chunked and a grill cheese with tomato. Again I got a piece of tomato with the core and it was cold, so not with cooked within the grilled cheese. We'll try again tomorrow.

It's a Waffle House, you know what you're getting. Wait staff is almost always friendly. It's one of those places that scratches your itch if you're craving it. Great spot to go for "dinner and a show" (people watching) after going out. I love their food in moderation. Long live WH!

Great people and wonderful food. Lexi was amazing. Your boss should give you a raise...and if he doesn't I will steal her and offer her more money! Thanks for a heart-warming and stomach-warming experience.
