I have to admit, I had never been to a Waffle House, before 2 weeks ago. My husband took to the other location in Austin (off Parmer Ln) first. I had the day off on Friday then, so wait was not bad, but we sat at counter at that location, whih was smaller then this one. This one, had a wrap around counter and a few more booths. We got there around 8am on a Saturday, and the place was "hoping"! Nice gentleman in white dress shirt stood up from one of the chairs and pointed to back booth open. Now, I am a big person, so I am always leary about fitting into booths, but this was just enough for me, where I did not feel squashed! Now, what I learned, and husband told me ahead of time, it is a very small menu, and it is just basic breakfast items. So, if you are expecting the "fancy" stuff you get at like a Cracker Barrel, Dennys, or IHOP..i.e. many different ingredient omelets, fancy fruit toppings on waffes, rye toast, or gasp...pancakes (LOL)...go to one of those places!
This is your basic breakfast items place (and lunch too, but have not tried that, but menu look very similiar). This is your eggs (how you like them), hashbrowns (which you can smothered, jalepenos, cheese on top), toast (white only) and choice of meat (saw they even do pork or steak..besides just your ham, bacon or sausage) and grits.
Now, being just the "basic" types of food, I did not have high expectations. Boy, was I wrong! Now, goint to other location first, and citing at counter, I got to watch them HUSTLE and cook! They did at this location too. But, it was cook to watch that everything was made to order! There was one person shouting out the orders (just like you would see at higher end restaurants). They cracked the eggs right in the pan (eggs on wall in holder above stove, very cool), hashbrowns brought out to grill, and meat not brought out until ordered. Waffle makers were standing by ready to be used, when ordered. This time, I saw on "special" was "strawberry". But, again, not "fresh strawberries". The waffle (which is only thing I was little dissapointed in, as was thinner then expected), did have "red specs" in it, to represent this stawberry flavor. Will stick to regular one next time. My husband's scrambled eggs were not runny, and again, NOT "boil in bag", was made fresh! I had mine "over medium" and were cooked to perfection! As I like to mix mine with the sausage and OMG...the best grits I have had since moving here! Finally!...someone know how to make grits properly! Then, the toast, was toasted perfectly, use to pick up the yolk from my eggs! And, again, not expecting good coffee, but was actully better, then some of those mentioned above. Then, the jukebox is nice to have on,,playing cool music! But, best of all, and why I will be back...is the SERVICE! Both places had excellent customer service. They were always attentive, took dirty plates away, checked on often (which again, places above mentioned, forget this part), and always there to refill the coffee and cream as needed! WE WILL be back! Thanks!
