Wagamama Had a Christmas to Forget | Eater London

"An outlet of a national Japanese-restaurant chain in North Finchley provoked outrage after a manager reportedly threatened disciplinary action for staff calling in sick; the incident was shared on 23 December by MSP Ross Greer (after an earlier Unite Facebook post), triggering boycott threats and calls for the manager to be fired. The company issued a swift apology but has not clarified its sick-leave practices, and observers noted a resigned lack of surprise given wider hospitality-sector pressures; many argue the manager’s “highly unusual approach” reflects systemic staffing and cultural problems, including a cited fear of “team member shortages.” The episode is especially striking given the chain’s prominent environmental credentials—under CEO Jane Holbrook the group highlights anaerobic food composting and a claimed zero-emission rating—leading critics to urge that sustainability efforts must include better internal labour practices." - James Hansen

Fresh food, relaxed vibe, and great service Visited Wagamama North Finchley and had a really good experience. The restaurant was clean with a calm, relaxed atmosphere — perfect for a casual meal, even when it’s busy. The food came out fresh, flavourful, and nicely presented. The Katsu Curry is always a winner, and the ramen was full of flavour without being too heavy. Sides like the Bang Bang Cauliflower and Chicken Gyoza were spot on — definitely worth adding. Staff were friendly and attentive without hovering, and service was quick for a popular dinner spot. Only minor downside is that some dishes can feel a little pricey for the portion sizes, but the quality of the food makes up for it. Overall, great place for a tasty, reliable meal with something for everyone. 🍜🥟✨

Very good service. We were seated at a corner without much interruption. Food is full of fusions indeed. The starters were quite nice. For the mains, salmon & chicken were cooked thoroughly to avoid food poisoning, which is understandable. Personally would prefer adequate amount of seasoning and just-right cooking time. Overall, it’s an option to go for before your movie next door.

Disappointed that as a couple our food came 15-20 minutes apart This is literally with only 5-6 tables in the whole restaurant… When we mentioned that to the staff we were told that : that is not how Wagamama works… Basically couples eat 15 minutes apart! Wow! Absolute nonsense and poor customer service There is no common sense and waiters are just mannerless kids dressed like going to the gym or casually hanging out, not serving paying customers… There is no effort to make things right So I am not making any effort myself to score anything more than 2 stars and I am being generous

The service standards may require improvement, all coffee and juice we ordered spills out in front of us. But they are still served directly without even clean the outside of the cups. I guess the food is ok, but my experience and expectations for this lunch has already reduced.

Came for my daughters birthday dinner this evening, we were looked after by Htoo who was attentive and made my daughters birthday extra special with cake and all the waiting staff singing her happy birthday, it made her birthday very memorable. The food was excellent as usual. Thank you Wagamama Finchley!

Been visiting this branch since the branch opened many years ago. Never had any issues - it offers fast, friendly service, menu options updated regularly with good selection of vegetables and vegan options. Free and easy parking and a bus stop nearby makes it accessible to all. Bowling, cinema and swimming at the Leisure park too, making it an idea place to visit for a local day out. It will be missed by the local community when it's closed down to make way for the new planned development.

Ordered multiple times from here. Just lacks quality. Most recently ordered their family meal on deliveroo and portions were incredibly small including a tiny little pot of katsu for two people! Not worth ordering. Find somewhere else
