"Offering a few cold deli sandwiches and smoothies in addition to hot sandwiches, burgers, and chicken, Wagner’s Drive In in Brooklyn Park is a great place to pull into from the northwestern suburbs. Call ahead or carhop service available." - Lauren Pahmeier

Fantastic nostalgia! A legitimate drive-in diner. We ordered from the pull-up menu, and were greeted by a friendly voice from the voice box. Our party of four ordered a California Burger, Mushroom and Swiss, a Wrangler Burger, and a BLT. For sides we ordered fries, onion rings, and cheese curds. Beverages were sodas and one chocolate malted shake, which was superb. The burgers were all seasoned well and topped with fresh ingredients. The fries were awesome and the onion rings followed suit. For the 4 of us we rang up a $76 tab, before tip, which averaged to about $20/person. We will definitely be back!

Absolutely amazing! The burgers were delicious even if it's just a plain cheeseburger, fries were delicious and perfectly crispy (picture is what was left before I started my review) and you have to try one of their shakes! The root beer shake is amazing! Will definitely be coming back in the summer!

This place is like Sonic's dive-in but better. This was my first time going here. I bought the Wrangler burger, Gourmet burger, Bacon Cheese burger, and the Walleye fish dinner. The burgers don't come with drinks or a side (just like Five Guys), so you have to add each on separately, which does add up(just like Five Guys). The fish dinner is sold by weight, and it's nuggets/fat fish fingers. So you might get 2 or 3. An extra piece is $2.90 before taxes, while the dish itself is $13.05 before taxes(yes I bought the extra piece since I didn't know how many pieces I was get to begin with). The dinner comes with fish pieces, french fries, coleslaw, white toast, and sauce. I also bought 3 drinks and french fries to go with the burgers. In total, I spent $80. That's a bit much now day, but I can't complain too much when everything is made to order. The 3 stars are because the burgers were very dry, and condiments don't come on the burger either. The fish batter is good, and the fish is good, but $13.05 for 2 or 3 nuggets/fat fish fingers is not it. Then, to charge $2.90 for an extra piece is wild. I was expecting a fish filllet with them saying they sell it by the weight. In total, I received 3 pieces of fish even after paying for the extra piece. All the drinks had too much ice in them to the point of all drinks being gone by the time we drove away from them and made it to the green street light by them(if you know the street then you know). I did buy 3 large drinks. They all shouldn't have been gone, but they were. at aThe french fries were the best out of everything. I would definitely go get more french fries.

Google
Owner was here pretty sweet guy food is really good I don’t normally like mushroom burgers but this one is beautiful with French fries beautifuly fried they look normal but are above the standard highly recommend will be back for California burger

Brian

Google
California burger was delicious, fries were a bit salty but still pretty good. Food is not cheap but you’re paying for the experience & nostalgia. Wish there were more places like this. FYI: If you don’t order a drink apparently they don’t bring out one of those trays to hook onto your car window…food was brought out in a paper bag (which was fine by me).

Google
First time here! I was a little timid but a nice couple in the car beside me reassured me that I truly do just press the button, wait, tell them what I want to order. They bring you your food and you hand them cash or your card. The food was HOT and so tasty. I got the California burger, fries, and a butterscotch shake. The burger was fresh and juicy, the fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (honestly some of the best fries I’ve ever had), and the medium shake tasted like butterscotch and was big. I ordered a medium and I wonder what a large looks like! Great servings. I’ve seen a few comments about pricing but we’ve gotta remember it’s not the 80s anymore. I feel they have good pricing in today’s age especially for real, classic food. The staff was very kind and prompt. I think this might be my new spot!

Denise Hochstedler

Google
We ordered inside because all the drive in ordering spots were full. Staff was friendly and efficient.

Google
I love to go here to get that nostalgic drive-in experience. The staff are very friendly and always smiling. We had a Reuben, order of fries and malts (with actual malt). Everything was super tasty! The large cut fries are a favorite...extra crunchy on the outside and soft in the center. You can't go wrong with anything you order.

Christopher S.

Yelp
Great good ole burger joint. Liked the drive in, speaker boxes. Patty melt was right on and I love the crinkle fries. Worth the drive in -2

Yelp
There's not a ton of Drive-in experiences in Mn as it's freezing cold half of the year. It's cool to catch one when you can. My mom likes the burgers here however I don't eat beef so my options were limited. I ended up getting chicken tenders & a strawberry shake. The chicken tenders weren't great. I feel like they make the bbq sauce in house? It was very watery and had a sweet apple flavor to it, I didn't really like it. The shake was really good though. The food came out fairly quick. We were able to get in & out. Not too much interaction with staff as they just take the order over intercom & deliver the food to your car.

Connie A.

Yelp
Been disappointed twice recently. The hamburger was dry and thin didn't taste like meat. Next time I tried the roast beef sandwich. Again dry and just a few slices of beef !

Crystal K.

Yelp
The building looks a little rough but don't let that scare you away, it's part of the charm. You can order and eat in your car or they have picnic tables too. Burgers were fresh and cooked well served on a soft but toasted bun. Good size serving of onion rings that weren't greasy. Thick, chocolaty malt. Prices similar to any other fast food but I don't feel gross after eating. Service was quick and friendly. The place was busy so service with a smile was noticed.

Amy F.

Yelp
Pregnancy cravings for fried food and didn't want typical fast food. I didn't get a picture of my burger but it was basic like other reviewers said. No seasoning to the meat. Onion rings was highlight. Husband said chili dog was subpar. Def one suffer for me. Good place if you like unseasoned fried food. I also felt cost was high

Yelp
I have lived not far from here for 7 years and only found it because of a Google search for restaurants nearby and open at the time that I was looking for something to eat. We chose Wagner's Drive-In and are taste buds are still happy for it. I got a Patty Melt. My friend got the Gourmet Burger. We also ordered fries and onion rings as our sides. I can tell you that this is THE BEST patty melt I've ever had in Minnesota! It was absolutely perfect in every way. The melt of the cheese, the softness of the onions, the 1,000 Island Dressing. It was perfectly toasted as well. My friend loved everything about the Gourmet Burger. He said that everything was perfectly cooked and was a symphony of flavors. The bun was soft and perfectly toasted. Both the fries and onion rings were winners. The fries are a head-to-head match for Culver's and their onion rings are a perfect rival for those found at Dave's Downtown. The service was friendly and quick, and we learned that you get a discount for paying in cash. I've been making up reasons to go back and know that the next visit will be very soon. Wagner's is a winner!

Alyssa Y.

Yelp
Finally made it to Wagners and so happy we did! This is a small, old school drive in where you push the button to order from your car and the deliver right to you. No car trays so plan on eating right from your dash or your laps. The food was great! We got two cheeseburgers, a mushroom Swiss, large fry, side if onion rings and a chili fry. Burgers were cooked well and the mushroom Swiss had a ton of mushrooms. Fries and onion rings perfectly crispy. The crisp fries helped keep the chili fries from getting too soggy as well. Traffic was consistent on a Saturday mid day but not packed and everyone could find a spot. Service was nice and food was delivered quickly. Only recommendation would be to order extra ketchup packets as we only got 4 with our order. A great choice for a fast and fun bite on the go!

Jon T.

Yelp
Business took three of us to CarMax at mid-day and we spotted Wagner's Drive-In. It looked like a good old-fashioned place for some iconic food. My brother and I are always on the lookout for a good chili dog and that is what we ordered. Unfortunately, these were not what we had hoped for. The art of making chili sauce for dogs has not been mastered by everyone. This was subpar. The dogs themselves were quite good and had the flavor to stand up to chili, but the chili was more like bowl chili and that does not belong on a dog. They are not the same thing. It had beans which is a definite no-no for chili and excessive cumin. I guess we were hoping for a great coney-style dog or one like we get in the Carolinas. In any case, we were disappointed. Two stars for the chili dogs.

Yelp
I was invited to this joint by a friend who works nearby and loves the food. I was first, surprised drive-ins still exist and second, surprised they fit any tables into that little space! I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, cheese fries and a small mellow yellow (coke products). The sandwich had a warm and crispy bun, the tomatoes weren't ripe so I just shoved then off. The chicken wasn't quite big enough for the bun, I was left with a bite or two of just bun. The cheese fries were very thick cut, but well done and salted perfectly with a nice cheese sauce that tasted like nacho cheese. The small soda was very small and heavy on ice so that wasn't exactly exciting. The cramped tables and old people hanging out inside kind of killed the vibes as there is no choice for any private conversation. This is strictly a food space. Do not bring your friends or family unless it is for the drive in feature. I do not wish to waste my car gas or battery sitting and it is not good for the environment to have so much fuel burning. My purse literally did not fit on the table with the tray of food for 2 people and the napkin stand. No hooks for purses either. I probably wouldn't come back even though I enjoyed the flavors of the food.

Josh D.

Yelp
Looking for something a little more fun or classic than your typical fast food drive through? Head to Wagners for a delicious burger/sandwich and order via the retro drive up. Service was super fast and friendly. Music was great too (oh wait - that was all me behind the car playlist).

Sarah J.

Yelp
Go ahead and laugh. I am a plain, keep it simple hamburger lover. Every once in a while I'll add cheese or peppers, or mushrooms. But, my preference is lettuce tomato, onion and pickles. Wagner's drive in does just that. That backyard burger taste combined with the nostalgia of days gone by. This family owned drive-thru did not disappoint. It is now my top go to burger spot. Reasonable prices. Cooked to order. Friendly service.

Ashley B.

Yelp
Lots of drive up spots! Some under the roof and others not. Drive careful they're due for some new pavement! They have a few outdoor tables with umbrellas by the train tracks. Classic diner-drive-up-dive food! Hit my craving for the day after a nice mid-morning walk. We ordered a California Burger, Jalapeño Burger, Fries, and a large Chocolate Malt! Fun retro vibes! Sitting in the sun, dipping fries into the malt, enjoying the breeze! The burger patties reminded me of a standard fall-apart crumbly-but-delicious bar burger! The malt stayed thick and creamy until the very end! I think everything was reasonably priced! Higher than fast food but lower than a restaurant! It's cool to see places like these still operating! Definitely worth a try, could become a regular stop!

William B.

Yelp
Wagner's Drive In is a fun nostalgic road stop joint. The fries are spectacular and come in a giant serving size. Burgers are what you would expect from a vintage roadside burger joint. Shakes/Malts are phenomenal with several obscure flavors like blueberry and pineapple (yum). Took 25 mins to receive food on a busy Friday night, if they could speed up the service would definitely be a five star. Another cool thing is the vintage cars that show up and dine here on a regular basis, we will definitely be back.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Delicious food and the service was quick. There is no meal deals but order each item individually. They have tables outside if you don't wanna sit in your car or arrive by motorcycle.

Amanda G.

Yelp
Wagner's is a classic, and one of the last true drive/in restaurants in the Twin Cities. There is some left to be desired in terms of the atmosphere, ie. fixing the potholes, but I understand their focus is on the food. With that being said, it is also a drive-in restaurant, so you'd think the parking lot would be a priority. Staff are very friendly here and very warm. There has never been a mistake with my food. The grilled cheese sandwich is crispy and really the most perfect grilled cheese I've ever had. I think there had been a change to the crinkle cut fries over the last couple of years, but the rest of the food makes up for it.

Joyce C.

Yelp
I went to wagners today thinking I would get some food. I ordered and 5 mins later I was getting my food as they state made to order. I was hoping that didn't mean anything that I got it fast as I really wanted a fish fillet from McDonald's. After I got home I was so disappointed for the price I paid and gave a tip for the bad quality. the fries were definitely fried in old grease and they were cold. it was evident they were sitting around. the Philly cheese steak sandwich was saying where's the beef and the hamburger was cold. nest had been sitting around too. I called the manager and that guy talked over me and did not listen. i just hung up. better yet I will not be spending my hard earned money for this crappy food. never ever again and I'll tell as many as I can about it too!!!

Suzy B.

Yelp
I'm on my way home to Los Angeles. Am in Phoenix now and I want a California burger, lite lettuce, cut in half. What's a girl to do!!! I'm hangry. Hi Jim. Best burger I've had in MN hands, tounges, and teeth down.

Karen B.

Yelp
It's just OK. First visit. We ate in the car. Unfortunately for me, it didn't live up to all the good reviews.

Yum Yum Jesus J.

Yelp
Horrible food! I have no idea how anyone says any different. The burgers are made with very low quality beef patties that they don't season, it's just bad meat on a bun, disgusting, for real. Fries are standard frozen, also no seasoning. The "roast beef" is an abomination, it is seriously a couple thin slices of something watery on a bun, but WAY over salty. Cheese curds are again, standard from frozen. I hate that these local mom and pop places can't make good food, I would love to love it, but this places is a disgusting mess. Oh, people there were real nice.

Lee G.

Yelp
Went in today by recommendation from a friend. We drove 22 minutes from Blaine and it was worth the drive. Awesome everything.

Bruce C.

Yelp
Just a good old, basic drive in!! good food reasonably priced nice people and in the summer it's a great place to bring your family

Cindy O.

Yelp
Decided to give Wagner's a try...not a good idea. Their onion rings were good, but the burger was a hot mess. Under seasoned...like no flavor to the meat at all...messy and just plain yuck. Not giving them a second chance because it was $30 bucks of terrible burgers.

Lisa P.

Yelp
Tried for the first time. Ordered online for takeout. Arrived on time, and greeted by friendly staff at pick up. Ended up just having the warm french fries for dinner. Burgers are not reflective of photos we had seen. Small unseasoned patties overcooked, burnt, and also cold. Disappointed, and ended up throwing away.

Hiram B.

Yelp
The food taste is good the price of the food is way over. For a small order of onion rings is almost $5. Definitely not worth the price

Brittany U.

Yelp
The food was surprisingly delicious!! I am all about the small drive ins and dives, this didn't disappoint. Friendly service through the intercom and quickly got my order out to us and it was correct and hot! Simple foods made well! Will be going back.

Peggy J.

Yelp
My Daughter went to Wagner's several weeks ago and got carry out. I'm disabled and live in a Long Term Care Facility so can't go out. We had such a great lunch. I had the Patty Melt and she had a Bacon Cheese Burger. They were delicious and what a treat. Now all I want is for her to go back here for another lunch! 5 STARS. *****

John R.

Yelp
Think A&W old school drive in. Sometimes there are a few old cars. The order system has been a problem but it's easy to go in to order. Where else can you sit a few feet from an active train track where the train engineer stops for food without being a bum?

Macy W.

Yelp
First and LAST time at wagners drive in today! Giving them a one star review solely based on management. Ordered two 3 piece chicken strip baskets and drove home to find out I had 3 and was charged for 3. It was only my sister and I and we weren't going to eat another whole basket. I called and spoke to a gal that said I could come back and get refunded due to the misunderstanding. Therefore I drove back to the drive in with the food that wasn't going to get eaten, went inside to get a refund only to get confronted by some dude who was not professional at all saying he wasn't going to refund me. After going back and forth with him I knew it was just a waste of time. The food wasn't bad but it's that older rude guys attitude and response to me after I was told by one of his employees that I would get refunded. Totally unprofessional and ridiculous. Wouldn't of wasted my time driving back if they would of just told me that over the phone.

Michael H.

Yelp
Just happened to be driving by at dinner time, so glad we stopped! How have I not been here before?!?!? Bacon and California burgers were so good! The fries too! Hot, tasty and delicious. The employees were really friendly, great, prompt service! What's not to love? Wagner' Drive-In is a 10!

Alexander P.

Yelp
Parking lot is really shitty, but the staff and food make up for it, and more. Great price. Quick staff. Overall expercience 5 stars. Coming here more often. And telling my frienda about this place so we could come more often during the summer after fishing.

Jon B.

Yelp
I found this place by change while staying in the area. I orders a bacon double cheeseburger and a jumbo onion ring. The vibe is really cool. There were classic cars parked all around. The burger was cooked perfectly and very tasty. I would have given this place a 5 star but the onion rings were over cooked. They tasted good though.

James E.

Yelp
The last of the TRUE Drive ins!! Burger /fries/Malts Best of all! As good as the Sun Drive-In ever was!! (reference to the now defunct Sun Drive-in; formally on Central Ave in Nordeast Mpls.) Famous for the SunBurger! "All other DriveIns are under the Sun" Their Moto. Wagners is equal to them.

Mo K.

Yelp
One of the most underrated burgers in Minneapolis and it's open all seasons. Maybe it's just nostalgia. I would recommend trying it for yourself.

Terrell T.

Yelp
I'm from St. Louis ... stopped here passin thru Minnesota... and one bite and I'm making this review lol... burgers great... great service... most def a ... highly recommended.!!!

Tiffany S.

Yelp
Delicious food and great customer service! I had never been to a drive-in diner before. The good is always fresh and worth the wait if they're busy.

Sheila T.

Yelp
Homemade burgers none like it just like in the Drive in days. But no delivery but work the drive

Lamark B.

Yelp
Back again at my favorite burger spot and I see they have a new menu they've added a chili cheese burger and a couple of new sandwiches to the menu( I'll try those at a later date) but the service was fast and polite as usual( this damn girl better bring me my card though) I got my usual two burger and fry order. And I was sadly disappointed when I got it my burgers were raw in the middle and now that I'm trying to take them back the girl gone act like she don't see me I've flipped the switch and no reply at all this is definitely my worse visit here...but this is the kind of treatment that black people receive there is another lady of color waiting with her switch flipped and no one is waiting on her either the service here today is terrible. So girl offered to remake my burger but not my fries when I got the order to go I swear I super pissed at Wagner's today..I've been coming here for three to four yrs and this is the worst I've ever been treated they lose a star because of today.

Amber G.

Yelp
The food is pretty good, but a bit pricey considering that it's drive in. I had the onion rings, wrangler burger and a chocolate shake. Everything was fresh and hot. I didn't care for my shake, the chocolate tasted weird. The burger was pretty tasty and you could tell it was freshly made. The wait wasn't long. The staff was friendly and personable. As a tourist,it was nice to try a local favorite.

Mary A.

Yelp
Fun to stop at an old school drive in. Service was fantastic, burgers were fresh and hot, fries were hot and crispy. Very good! Parking lot and outside area could use a lil love, but if you come at night you don't notice! Try them out!!

Dana E.

Yelp
The food was good, the customer service was excellent. The only thing I would say is the onion rings didn't really come across as homemade more out of a bag going into the greese. The soda pop is not true to size I got a really small cup of Coca-Cola and pay too much for it otherwise the burger was excellent.

Clyde R.

Yelp
Lunch for one cost $15.00, and i had to wait over 15 minutes. Reuben + coleslaw + milkshake. I've always wanted to try Wagner's. I've driven by it thousands of times but never had time to eat there because it's always so crowded. Today at 11am, finally got my chance. I was able to park my big rig down the street and run there. I was in a huge hurry and was sorely mistaken it was a fast food place. The Reuben was a slimy, oily, mess on stale toast. Eating it while driving was a huge mistake, because it fell apart. The shot glass sized coldslaw was still frozen. Couldn't even bite into it. At least i had the milkshake to look forward to right? False. They ironically put a straw in it, but all that was in the cup was soft serve phony ice cream instead of a drinkable shake. Very tough to enjoy while shifting gears. I'm so disappointed! I work 14.5 hour days, and only get a half hour of mealtime each day.

Jake V.

Yelp
Great food and vibe. After ordering, it took awhile for the food but that's because it is made to order and it is fantastic. Cannot recommend this business enough.

Shonda B.

Yelp
I really enjoy eating at Wagner's. Old school drive-in with good service, good burgers and very well seasoned fries. One of my favorite places to stop when I visit Minnesota.

Nia R.

Yelp
Been going to Wagner's for as long as I can remember. My papa took me here growing up, and now it's a great memory to have when I walk in the door. The crew has become family over my life, and very rarely doesn't recognize me from when I was a little kid. Their food is always amazing, and I never doubt it's fresh. Thank you, Wagner's for being one of my favorite places for not only the food, but the memories as well.

Cassidi C.

Yelp
Finally stopped by here yesterday for the first time! My boyfriend got the single California burger with cheese, which he still couldn't finish it was so filling! He also got fries and a shake, he was pretty stoked. I myself got the Gourmet Burger(cheese, bacon, mushrooms, onions) this was by far one of the best burgers I have had! Very filling:) I also got an order of onion rings and a root beer. It was also nice to feel a slight bit of normalcy. I am a server and bartender and am temporarily out of work due to Covid. Felt awesome to be able to tip a server in person:) Also, thanks Jordan! You are working hard and I appreciate you! All and all thank you for the wonderful experience, we will be back!

C M.

Yelp
For drive in burgers and sandwiches, this place is awesome. The service is also fantastic, even during cold weather. The parking lot seems like it has been shelled though, and an army jeep may be necessary to get through it. If they repaired this and promoted their food and history more aggressively, they would do an even better business. The place has character, but needs a little shining up. BBQ beef is where it's at.

Denny K.

Yelp
Open during the quarantine!!! Dang good burgers! Good crinkle cut fries. Maybe a little too long in the fryer but good and salty. If you're looking to social distance in your car but have some good food, come to Wagner's!

Dani H.

Yelp
Love all their food, crinkle cut fries, onion rings, burgers, chicken and and great sandwiches! Not sure what bakery they get their breads, buns, rolls from but they are all excellent and really makes them stand out from the crowd. Problem is they are never open consistent times. As I write they should be open but were not for the second time in a week. Hint, if you call and no answer, they are closed or are closing as you get there. For years and years it has been like this, we start going for awhile but then to be once again let down with the "open whenever hours", not a new thing and always disappointing.

Chandler C.

Yelp
We had driven past this drive in many many times and always saw it was super busy, and were really interested in trying it out. We were doing a whole lot of driving today and decided to stop and split something. We ended up ordering two root beer floats and a chili cheese burger which came up to only $13 and some change. The whole old school drive in style joints are so cool, and they have the traditional "press the botton for help" menu that you parked next to. The staff was really nice and seemed to enjoy working there. The food came out relatively fast as well. I highly suggest checking it out, they can also fit quite a few parking spots!
