"In 1950, she became the first Black person to purchase land on Cape Cod; six-acres and a large Victorian home that soon became Wagon Wheel Bed & Breakfast. Over the next several decades, it was known as a safe place for Black travelers visiting The Upper Cape during the Jim Crow era."

Years ago this place was wonderful but not now. Strong smoke smell in the room, overlaid by a chemical smell. The king-sized bed had a big caved-in section on one side. The blanket was filthy and had burn holes in it. The bathroom knob wasn't working properly. And we were charged $150 each night for Thursday and Friday.

Needs a lot of TLC. My room had a smell of mold, and I think it was coming from the bathroom. I had been to Wagon Wheel 40 years ago when I was visiting Tanglewood and it was a pleasant and clean room on a not-busy highway on the Lee/Pittsfield border. In the today of 2024, it has deteriorated in quality and needs some serious cleaning and updating. It's location if fabulous if you want to be close to big box stores and groceries and Lenox and all that the geographical area offers. That's it's MAIN benefit. But do be prepared for some unsavory smells and alot of dust in the room. Not for the allergic person.

The rooms were very clean and quiet, which I enjoyed very much. It was a little cold at times, but that's my only complaint if you even want to call it that. It was peaceful and quiet and I actually got to relax. I would stay there again when I'm back in town.

We live in Worcester county but my husband had a two day job in western MA, so we decided to stay overnight to reduce travel time. We took a chance and found The Wagon Wheel Inn online for cheap. We weren't expecting much but were pleasantly surprised with our stay. The room was clean and warm (but did have a lingering cigarette smell, not a problem for us), and there was a great Chinese restaurant within walking distance (as well as a grocery store and Burger King)! We enjoyed our takeout in the room (with beer and wine we brought) and enjoyed the people watching from the window (everyone was very friendly). Bed was reasonably comfortable, the TV didn't work initially, but after checking the loose plugs with the help of the friendly staff, we enjoyed watching the office until we fell asleep. If you stay in room 7 be sure the TV connections are in-tact and jiggle the toilet handle if it runs, and you will have a very enjoyable stay! Safe parking lot with flood lights, friendly and helpful staff, great location. Will stay again. Only regret is not springing for the honeymoon suite with the heart-shaped Jacuzzi!

I don't think this place has been renovated since their grand opening, having said that, the room was clean, but they definitely need to update their towels, all were pretty worn-out, one had a hole on it, but for one night I guess it was ok

Room was disgusting, mold in the shower, smoke free room with a burn sheet, dirty sheets, I think that everyone can find a better place for the same amount of money!

Stay away from this place.Overpriced rooms WITH NO RUNNING WATER last night when I arrived after the Tanglewood concert at about 11 PM. Owner had been trying to get water restored all day. She should have let clients know because she told me she knew by noon it wouldn't be until the next day.A woman staying there showed up at the Office to say to me "if you stay here don't try to flush the toilets".. no shower etc. It was so bad I decided to drive back to Boston even though I would arrive after 1 AM. Better than taying in this awful place. Just a terrible experience.

We booked a room for one night expecting modest accommodations. However, we did not expect: the mini-refrigerator door to be detached and come off in our hands when opening it; a partially consumed cola left inside it; two pairs of dirty socks left in the nightstand drawer; multiple bathroom fixtures falling off their respective walls; mattresses that felt like they were packed with straw (literally) and sloping preventing a decent night’s sleep; broken curtains rods precluding their complete (and necessary) closing. In addition, management and staff, while pleasant on checkin, were MIA the following morning. If management would like to refund our money we will gladly accept.

Yelp
This place is a great Value!! The room was clean and well kept. Our only issue with it was that our nonsmoking room smelled like cigarette smoke. We went to CVS across the street and got a can of Lysol and fixed the problem! The people working there were nice and courteous!! We're definitely coming back!!

Yelp
It was a sweet little room with everything you need. My room also faces a pretty little back yard. I slept with the window opened all night. I felt safe and I slept well.

Yelp
I spent a fabulous 4 nights here. It's super quiet and clean and the owners were so sweet. I felt safe staying there alone and even had a chair outside my door to relax and enjoy the view. I'll definitely stay here next time I visit Pittsfield!

Yelp
Wallet friendly, super clean room/bathroom, polite service. Would recommend to anyone and will be staying here again next time I'm in the area. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Great stay all around.

Yelp
Stopped here for the night on my way west. Saw the high marks and since motels can be dodgy I thought I'd give it a whirl. I'm very impressed. Small motel, very clean rooms, no funky smell, and only paid $50 for a king size bed room. Rooms have a mini-fridge, microwave, small coffee maker, cable TV. Great spot, great price. The only down side is the WiFi is weak where I was but I had to make a review since I usually don't.

Yelp
I don't want to trash this motel for it was a bit of a blast from the past for me. The Wagon Wheel features very small rooms with equally small (double) beds and reminded me of many of the motels my family and I had vacationed at in the early '70's. Rooms were very adequate; decor was motel standard but the price was ridiculous. My husband and I paid nearly $200 for a night's stay at the Wagon Wheel while James Taylor was in town. Talk about being price gouged. Ouch!!! For just another $75, we could have stayed at a very nice bed and breakfast that was within driving distance to Tanglewood but nothing was available. I understand the concept of supply and demand as do the owners of this motel. If the price had been more reasonable, I would have drifted off to sleep feeling just fine. Instead, I laid awake for most of the night bashing myself for paying a ridiculous amount of money for a room that smelled musty...even if that musty smell was somewhat comforting and reminiscent of my youth:)

Yelp
This is one of those "you get what you pay for" type of places. We paid $60. Everything about the room, from the tv to the bathroom, was tiny. If the room was any smaller they would've had to have given us bunkbeds. The walls were also paper thin so, for your sake, I hope you're a deep sleeper. The traffic buzzing by on the busy main street would be enough to keep a person up by itself, but if that weren't enough there's also the thumping from the karioke going on in the bar next door. This is a cheap place to get a little shuteye. It was perfect for two brothers heading out to the middle of nowhere who were just using the Berkshires as a place to ride our mountain bikes all day. But would I take my girlfriend there? Only if I decided that I didn't love her anymore and wanted to break up with her.

Yelp
We had a great experience at Wagon Wheel. Just needed a place for one night as we travelled through Berkshire County. The room was clean, no cigarette smell, the beds were very comfortable, the price was great, the owner was very accommodating.

Yelp
We had some car trouble and had to find someplace to stop that wouldn't break our wallet. This place popped up on Bookings for a good price and we snapped it up. The owner was very nice, even at 2am. The rooms were dated, but everything was very clean. You could tell that time was spent ensuring that the room was properly cleaned and ready for the next guest. There weren't bells and whistles and tons of free toiletries, but it was exactly what we needed for a price that works.

Yelp
This owner was extremely rude. I highly recommend skipping this place. I booked and then cancelled online. Apparently the cancellation didn't go through, which was an issue with Expedia, not my fault or intent. He was such a jerk on the phone. I was willingly to pay for the room -- that wasn't the issue. He was such a jerk that I was glad we opted to switch places. Avoid this place. They don't understand the basics of customer service. Yuck.

Yelp
I would not ever stay here again. The room smelled horrible. The oder was so bad we left after two hours. I had such a headache. The beds are very small and rooms are outdated. Not worth 106.00 dollars. In Lenox you can find so much better for that price. If I could give less than one star I would.

Yelp
Wow, a great cheap motel. Proprietors always visible and helpful, friendly without being overbearing. Dated, old but impeccably clean. Also, cheapest place in town at $55 (including tax). Sorry, everything gets more expensive when James taylor is involved to offset the unfortunate boomer "inn"flux There is wi-fi, I think, you just have to sort of position yourself right in the room.

Yelp
I stayed in a small room with two double-beds. The bathroom was good beds comfortable, had a big TV. It was clean, it had a microwave and refrigerator and was right across the street from a supermarket and a few stores and Friendly's restaurant. Convenient location, super helpful owner with good hours. Provided coffee and muffins in the morning. Wasn't super cheap but that's because we went during tourist season. I was happy to find a non-smoking room. If you want luxury with a fitness center and huge restaurant, this is not the place, but I needed an affordable place to stay last minute. I liked it. I'd go back.

Yelp
Yes, outdated, thin towels, inexpensive toiletries, but for the less than 12 hours we spent in the room changing and sleeping, it was perfect. Clean bathroom and comfortable bed.

Julianne C.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 night stay at the Wagon Wheel Motel! Quiet, spotless, new towels, nice bathroom, modern. Tastefully decorated, you can open windows to get nice mountain air, and of course, heat and AC. Daily housekeeping, plenty of clean fresh towels. Some motels don't clean until you leave, and expect you to reuse towels. Yuck. The owners are friendly and accommodating. The rooms and bathrooms are small, but I found it cozy. Very good for 1 or 2 people. I wish I could have stayed longer!

Yelp
Good, dependable low cost but clean and neat motel. Stayed there two nights in early October, and was just as good and friendly as when we stayed back in the fall on 2011. It has free WiFi, but I didn't try it. Nice to have clean fresh towels on our 2nd day there. It's across the street from Friendly's! Definitely would stay there again.

Yelp
I stayed here recently, and was pretty happy with it. It was small but clean, had a fridge and microwave. Bed was comfortable, sometimes has road noise but not too bad. I took a star off for the internet, which was weak and often went down. Other than that, it was fine.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised, since I booked this accommodation at a steep discount and on a holiday weekend. I wasn't expecting much! Clean sheets, a hot shower, and some peace and quiet are really all I'm anticipating for the price I paid. But I got that and much more. The room was extremely clean. Spotless. The staff seemed cheerful and helpful. I also liked the fact that the room had powerful air conditioning and two windows for some nice cross-breeze. It wasn't hot outside, but motel rooms tend to get stuffy, and this one wasn't. When I first entered the room, I noticed that it was already being aired out with the windows open. Nice. The room was also equipped with a cold mini-fridge, a microwave oven, and a coffeemaker that were all in fine working order. There's a Price Chopper right across the road for groceries. The bed was on the firm side but quite comfy, not a squishy and overused mattress. The shower had decent water pressure with plenty of hot water. My only complaint would be the loud voices of neighbors who held a 10-minute conversation right outside my window in the morning. That wasn't the fault of the motel, though. If you like it quiet, request a room in the back of the property. It makes a huge difference. You won't hear the traffic noise from the front.

Yelp
I've driven by this hotel a few times over the years and the fiber glass horse in the parking lot has always grabbed my imagination. When I was planning a 2 day stay in Lenox, they had a inexpensive rate via a third party site, and I made my reservation. Arrival... Initially, I was very disappointed by what I would describe as the VERY rustic look and feel of the room. I felt better when I saw the bathroom was very clean and tidy. That night, when I pulled the covers down, I noticed that the sheets were pristine and exceptionally crisp with the top folded over just so. I have stayed at more than my fair share of hotels, and this has got to be one of the neatest bed sheet presentation I have ever seen. The management appear to be a married couple. They are very nice. By the end of day one, I had developed a curious affection for the place that totally transcended my initial impression. What appeared to be horrible, tacky and cheap, somehow became perfectly fine, and maybe almost charming. I mentioned to an acquaintance that I had stayed at that hotel, she told me that she had some unusual experience there, 20 years ago or so, and has ever since held the hotel in fond regard. The only warning I would add is that the police came both mornings I was there. I mentioned this to the manager, and he said that because of the hotel's low rates, the police have made it part of their daily routine to run the cars in the parking lot for warrants and registration issues. So if you haven't answered that jay walking ticket from 1994, you don't want to stay at this hotel.
