Incredible from start to finish! The atmosphere, the service and most importantly the food was amazing! Riichi and Naoki were wonderful as were the rest of the servers. It was amazing to see the dishes prepared right in front of you. We will definitely come back next time we’re in Kyoto. Mao Usegi was also great! Can’t recommend enough.

We had high expectations for this restaurant that unfortunately were not met. Of the 12 courses, only 2 had beef that would be considered Wagyu quality. The meat in the other courses had no flavour and an odd mushy texture. The presentation was sloppy and the servers kept asking if we wanted to upgrade our menu choices. It was very tiresome and felt like a timeshare hard sell. The meal was close to $700. We had a Michelin meal 2 nights before for about the same price (with wine) and this restaurant was in no way close to the Michelin restaurant. While we weren’t expecting Michelin quality or service, for this price there is a certain minimum standard 4$/6 in this case simply wasn’t met. I would not recommend this place.

The best yakiniku 10 course meal I’ve experienced! I was impressed by the presentation of each dish, I mean just look at the photos! What a beaut. Was not disappointed by the taste too, tender cooked beef in all its glorious cuts and flavours - scorched, grilled, fried, raw. Dishes were spaced out well, whole dining experience took about 2 hours. We were seated at counter seat and got to watch a team of chefs preparing our dish. Everyone worked together but I was told our chef was Yugo Kazuma (middle guy in video). Kudos to everyone for making it a memorable event! Place can get hot, recommend to wear layers that can be easily removed.

Booked this restaurant off of other reviews online, but was disappointed. I will say it’s hard to do a multi course omakase off of beef alone, but I felt like too much was done with each dish. The opening plate was a mix of vegetables and cheeses, but as an opening plate it felt like so much was going on with the dish having 7+ different veggies and 3 cheeses, I was full after even that! And the second plate had two different wagyu cuts, and a Wagyu sushi, and a radish with salmon roe…just one cut of Wagyu with a plain radish to highlight the beef would have been perfect. The other stuff felt unnecessary. We also kept getting asked to upgrade our meal and pay more, and almost shamed and questioned as to why we weren’t. This left a weird, uncomfortable feeling at some portions of the meal. For meat quality, it was good but I wasn’t blown away, the sukiyaki was the highlight of the meal for me. I normally don’t write reviews but I was super upset spending almost $500 USD on this meal and wished I had saw a review like this before booking.

Ren, and the entire team, were so welcoming and clear. There were so many wonderful memories made at Wagyu Ryotei Bungo! Beautiful setting and such a gorgeous restaurant. Shoes off but comfy, drop feet seats. 1-2-1 service with yummy food and great chat! Thank you Ren and team for your time, effort and presentation skills. It’s all in the detail and Bungo Gion has plenty!!

My husband and I ate here while in Kyoto and this truly may have been the best meal of our life, everything was SO good. Each dish was interactive, prepared beautifully and tasted even better. We sat at the main counter and the vibe was so nice. We loved being able to watch the chefs cook and prepare the food . The staff were really so sweet and so kind and helpful. We had Richi and Tatsuki and both were incredible. I would absolutely recommend this place for a wonderful dinner just make sure to book your reservation in advance.

My husband and I opted to make a reservation with the restaurant instead of doing a Wagyu dinner through our hotel. We went for the full 12 course premium meal on November 7th, and I can’t say right how much it was worth it. The food was amazing. I’m so glad we opted for the splurge of the premium set. Taon and Kazuto were friendly, explained everything, the courses were just the right size (although it was very full at the end). They also chatted with us throughout the experience which added to the the positive atmosphere. Overall it was a once in a lifetime experience. If you’re going to Kyoto, make sure you go here for your Wagyu course, it’s well worth it.

English friendly omakase. Service was incredible, the Wagyu was so tender- melt in your mouth, and great ambiance. Our server, Riichi, explained every dish and was very accommodating. Recommend for a nice dinner in Kyoto. It was 51,500 yen ($330 USD) for 2 people, 10 course Wagyu. Decent price compared to what you would have to pay for this quality of meat in the United States.
