Saddest Restaurant Closures to Know in San Diego, August 2025 | Eater San Diego

"Soft-launched in February inside Ajisen Ramen’s Convoy District space, this outpost shared the kitchen to serve wagyu beef in sizzling teppan dishes and build-your-own barbecue plates; while its San Diego presence was tied to Ajisen’s dining room, the brand’s Long Beach location at the LBX Long Beach Exchange remains open." - Helen I. Hwang

Google
Poor service, food quality suck, they charge a premium for the beef and yet they don’t know how to cook it. God forbid that you ask for not ice or easy ice for your drink cuz that’s how they give u the drink. Manager will say that it’s pre measured. Smh 🤦‍♂️ I can get better service and better food from the places next to it. The photos they have of their food is a misinterpretation of what they actually serve.not worth the price and not worth the food quality. You can get better from a mom and pops sushi or from the restaurant next to it. 7/21724

Google
The wagyu is tender and full of flavor! The rice is also flavorful (garlic pepper especially)! The vegetables are also a perfect addition. The service was fantastic and I'll definitely go back again.

Google
I ordered Premium Beef Tongue Bento (Garic Rice).I was very satisfied with both the quality and quantity. They have a variety of meat options, including curry and sandwiches, as well as bento. I highly recommend it because it's an easy way to eat wagyu beef. I'll come back soon.

Google
Came in during their happy hour, 20%off on bowls and salads. The teriyaki chicken salad was refreshing on a warm summer day.

Google
I ordered teppanyaki, but it seemed like it was pre-packaged and just reheated. It wasn’t fresh at all — the outside was even cold, and the food was really, really disappointing.

Google
Staff was rude, slow and no personality. But food was great.

Google
Wagyu Street is a fantastic addition to the LBX food hall! I've tried a few different dishes, and every single one has been consistently flavorful and delicious. My personal favorite is the bento box - it's beautifully presented and packed with goodness. You get your choice of meat (grilled to absolute perfection), short grain rice, pickled cucumbers, bean sprouts, dipping sauce, and a lemon wedge. Love that the portions are generous, making it perfect for one hearty meal or splitting into two smaller ones. The service is top-notch, always friendly and welcoming, and they even offer seasonal specials and happy hour deals on food and beer. Highly recommend checking it out!

Google
The beef tongue is a bit pricey, but overall good. Stars taken off primarily due to the lack of description. As someone with food allergies, I would not have paid more to upgrade for an item that I ended up not being able to eat at all.

Yelp
One of a kind meat! Ate some at San Anita race track speedy service! Clean presentation!

Yelp
The skewers are incredible. They are juicy, tender and super flavorful. The dodongo are sweet and chewy

Yelp
The Hangar has a pretty nice ambiance, but I never know what to get to eat here, but the smell of the grill from this spot really lured me in. Since, I've really enjoy their stripeloin steak or the harami BBQ over garlic rice! The garlic rice is flavorful and has the right amount of garlic I want, and the beef is flavorful, savory and cooked very well with nice grill marks. The folks have been helpful too in case you need a recommendation of what to try, but I've been set on my choices right now. Hope I can try the others options next time.

Yelp
My daughter is a very picky eater and loved it here. The meat was juicy and the rice was cooked to perfection. I got the Wagyu Sukiyaki Beef bowl. Service was great and friendly! We got our food very fast too!

Yelp
I always passed by this place in The Hangar, but I never got the chance to try it until now! I ordered the Build Your Own Bento Box with Smoke Chicken Teriyaki, Garlic Pepper Rice, Smoke Teriyaki Sauce, and Spicy Garlic Sauce, and a Matcha Moringa Soy Latte. The Bento Box looks amazing. There's sides of purple bean sprouts, cucumbers, and red pickled radish. There's also mixed greens under the chicken, along with a banana leaf. The food was great, the rice seemed popular among reviewers and it's popular for a reason, it's not too salty, and it's a good amount of garlicky. The chicken doesn't have enough teriyaki sauce on it, but they do give you a side of it which is great. The sides are all delicious and go along well with the rice and chicken. The spicy garlic sauce tastes like typical spicy sauce from Asian restaurants. They also give you a cute packet of Kewpie Mayonnaise. The Matcha Moringa Soy Latte is good if you're not expecting it to taste like a regular matcha latte. It's very sweet compared to regular matcha lattes, but you can still taste the matcha flavor. It's not too milky or creamy. The employees were very kind. He was very helpful when I asked how big the bento boxes were and what sauces he recommended. Wagyu Street is located in The Hangar which is a food hall so it's always pretty noisy and depending on the time and day, it can get difficult to find seating. I think I would come here again, there's a lot of interesting things on the menu that I'm curious about!

Yelp
Amazing beef bowls. Totally underestimated them to be honest. The house bbq sauce is a perfect companion to the beef. Its basically a yoshinoya on steroids.. I wish there were more places like this. You can tell the quality of beef used as well

Yelp
1st time at LBX. I like Japanese food and this hit the spot with the ice cold beer I ordered from the bar. Kind of on the pricier end but I guess its wagyu and comes with sides. I come to expect pricier food from food halls anyway. The bento portion was enough for me. You order at the counter and get a pager and pick it up when its ready. It was ready pretty quickly, about 10 mins.
google avatar

Yelp
We just ordered the wagyu sukiyaki curry udon and I don't think you can get this restaurant quality flavor anywhere else.

Yelp
Was at the craft fair this Sunday at The Hangar and decided to try this place out for lunch. The place was packed, but the line to place my order wasn't bad at all as I was second in line. The staff member who took my order wasn't very friendly. I ordered the American wagyu sukiyaki sub and was given a buzzer to alert me when my order was ready. The beef was very flavorful and tender. It came with some sort of purple sauce ( not sure what it was, but had a sweet/ slight spicy taste). This gave the sub a very interesting taste. 4 stars because my order seemed like it took forever and the burnt part of bread. Be prepared to search for parking if you visit on a Sunday. Parking was pretty bad, we parked by the TJmaxx and walked which was ok with us since our dog got to walk a little :) Seating inside and outside , but all Were taken so we took our food home to eat. I do want to try this place again , the sukiyaki noodles looks yummy

Yelp
I got to try Wagyu street at the spirit of Japan street festival. The festival its self was cool but this was one of the stand outs. I got to try the American Wagyu Beef Yakisoba and it was really good. I do feel like it was missing a sauce. It came with mayo but I wasn't the biggest fan of. Would like to try other things off the menu.

Yelp
Such a tender beef tongue bowl. I had this with garlic rice and added a soft boiled egg. The server was not friendly and seemed bothered that I asked how long the beef bowl had been sitting out. Yeah it's under a heated lamp but I need to be careful what my child consumes. I should be able to ask without getting a sigh and eye roll.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Got the spicy udon. Trash. Photos shows slabs of beef but I got barely any ground beef. Never coming back
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
After some decision paralysis with a friend in the Hangar we settled on Wagyu Street as a probable safe option with just meat and rice. I'm glad we tried it because it was great! I got the Beef Curry Wagyu bowl and added a soft boiled egg on the side. The beef was tender as expected from Wagyu, in slices and strips almost like you would expect from Gyu-Don (beef bowl). The curry was rich, flavorful, and the right amount of saltiness to complement the beef. It is a bit heavy due to the fattiness of the beef, so just keep that in mind. I do wish the curry itself was served on top of the rice, but nothing that a spoon can't fix if you want to eat the two together. Rice was nice, fluffy, and just the right texture. The seasoned soft boiled egg was delicious and cooked with a nice jammy yolk! Definitely would recommend adding it to this dish if you get it. For the price, I thought it was a reasonable deal considering it was Wagyu (and the current price of eggs...). Would definitely consider coming back here next time at the Hangar!

Yelp
Ordered the wagyu strip loin steak bento and this was so overcooked and chewy I literally had to schedule a dentist appointment because it made my tooth hurt. Quality has gone completely downhill. Never again.

C A.

Yelp
The past two times I've ordered here, the meat has been incredibly overcooked. Why are you charging me $25 for beef jerky?? None of you guys are allowed to put that you know how to cook on your Hinge profiles.

Yelp
I was surprised to see a few menu items marked as vegan when I noticed this new restaurant in The Hangar. It intrigued me enough to order the Grilled Tofu "Cha-shu" Salad though my expectations were middle-ground considering it's just a salad. I was surprised to see that it was more than just tofu on a bed of salad greens. It also came with tomatoes, large chunks of cucumbers, edamame, pine nuts, radish sprouts, and rice noodles. I was very pleased with the amount of protein and flavor. https://bit.ly/3VHE1jY On my last visit, I ordered the Grilled Tofu "Cha-shu" Curry. The portion size is very generous! If you love carbs, this came with so much rice. The amount of tofu was not as generous but still enough to fill me up. On the plus side, it came with so much saucy-sauce that I kept for leftovers, and ate with a new package of tofu at home :) https://bit.ly/4fjluRZ Awesome spot that satisfies my Japanese curry cravings!

Yelp
Fantastic, delicious and freshly made dishes. You should not miss your opportunity to stop by when you're in the area.

Yelp
If you guys love 90% bread and 10% meat stop what you're doing and head over now. I got the Wagyu Striploin Steak Sub. I was expecting a juicy sandwich but the photo speaks for itself. I paid $22 get your sandwich somewhere else please.
google avatar

Yelp
The latest addition in LBX, Wagyu Street did not disappoint. This is one of my go to lunch place whenever I'm in the area. Even though it's on the pricier side, their wagyu plate is great. Lots of tender beef and the sides are pretty tasty. The staff members are also nice. I like that they have a stamp card too so you can collect freebies. It's located in the hangar so, there are plenty of parking here and walking distance to lots of other places. The only downsized is, if you happen to come here on a busy day, seating may be limited, but the place is lively.

Yelp
Delicious wagyu striploin garlic rice! So glad we have this yummy Asian food option with high quality beef at the Hangar. I can't wait to try the Wagyu Sukiyaki Beef Bowl.

Yelp
You guys got to try it. Good stuff! A must try when looking for wagyu dont resist persist!

Yelp
Wagyu!!! Something I always wanted to try but never had the chance (or pocket deep enough) to get it from our local market. So I decided to try it when we stopped by the Hangar for lunch. Both overhead and on display menus were easy to understand and the friendly staff took my order right away. I ordered the Tri-tip with Garlic Pepper Rice Special. The rice was well seasoned with the hint of garlic and slightly peppery. Amazingly the corn blended well with rice and the seasoning. The complementary seaweed soup was mild and went well with rice and meat. Oh, the meat. The bento box came with 6 pieces and all were well flavored and very tender even though regular tri-tip can be tough when fully cooked. It was so good that for sure I could eat another 6 pieces in a snap. From visual standpoint, they could add some reddish vegies to bring up the color contrast in the bento. As of right now, it looks slightly bland. The price is on the high side but totally worthy for the quality of the meat and side dishes in the bento box. Nice meal!

Kasumi M.

Yelp
Had this at foodieland!! Ordered the harami skewer and it looks amazing So glad I can have this in Phoenix! Staff were super friendly and kind too.

Yelp
I had a great experience. The food was fresh and delicious, and the service was outstanding. They were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Nothing is better than Japanese Wagyu! Located in Long Beach's newest food hall that has so many great restaurants, Wagyu Street is one of my favorite places that have opened here! They are serving up some high quality Japanese bento boxes, that all features amazing cuts of wagyu. My favorite thing to get here are their LA Kalbi and Berf Tongue bentos, that each come with a side of rice and pickled veggies, and you can try one of their delicious sauces for only one dollar more! Each box is made to order and is grilled right in front of you. It's the perfect thing to get at this food hall, since you can grab a beer and head outside to enjoy all the nice weather this summer.

Aimee I.

Yelp
Friendly service the lady helping us was super sweet! I've been here before and their food is always so good!! I got the Udon this time, super yummy!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this new option at The Hangar, which opened in May of 2024. I decided to give it a try because the food display looked so appetizing. I'd say there's some degree of false advertisement, because the amount of meat in the sample bento was far greater than what you get when you order. I chose the Wagyu beef tongue, and there were just a few thin slices of tongue. The tongue was nicely marinated and tender, especially with the sauce that cost a dollar more, but I didn't think the amount of meat justified the cost. Beside the rice, you'll also get a little bit of seasoned bean sprouts and slightly pickled cucumber slices, plus a sprinkle of pickled ginger. The food was fresh and tasted good, but it left me wanting for more. You might find another place that offers more bang for your beef, but it's hard to beat the quality of the meat.

Yelp
Had them last year at the OC fair, can't wait to have them again Literally the best Waygu EVA!!
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
The service was friendly, the food was prepared fast and it tasted good. I ordered the Beef Wagyu Sukiyaki Rice Bowl. Quite honestly and this is not a negative comparison, but it tasted similar to Yoshinoya's Beef Bowl, but a smaller portion and larger price tag. So, I paid about $17, but you can actually get 2 large Beef Bowls with a 2 for 1 BOGO coupon (they always seem to distribute) for less. I do enjoy Yoshinoya and that's why this was reminiscent of that delicious taste. Parking is easy here.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. Fine dining in a take out box. The meat was delicious and the additions in the box were well paired. You can get extra sauce and the lemon wedge complete the flavors. Although personally I think white rice would have been better than the garlic rice. But still the whole meal was impressive. They give out samples too so you can try the meat before you buy.
google avatar

Andrew N.

Yelp
Food and customer service was great! I ordered the chicken teriyaki which had great flavor and was well cooked.

Amber V.

Yelp
Attentive staff and great service! I got a Harami BBQ bowl and the mochi ice cream! Yummy
google avatar

Yelp
If I wanted a mediocre $20 sandwich I would go to Togos. Poorly composed, horrible condiments, soggy bread. Hard pass....
google avatar

Ying L.

Yelp
Picked up $18 bento beef box. It came with 6 oz of beef, salad, rice and some small side dishes. I waited about 15 mins for my food. The beef was tender but portion was small. I think this is enough for lunch. They do offer many types of beef that goes up to $28 a box. I will recommend giving this place a try if you are in the area.
google avatar

Ramil B.

Yelp
First time at this food hall with many options. We tried wagyu street as the pics looked great. We ordered the garlic fried rice with the stripsteak and a chicken rice bowl. The service which is mainly taking orders and they were not friendly or helpful. I get it it's busy on a weekend but it would have been better ordered on a tablet instead of talking to someone who obviously didn't want to take my order...lol. the food was just ok. Worth the try but didn't look like the pics and flavor was pretty bland. You get the smoke taste with chicken but the steak on the fried rice was a little overcooked but flavored decently. Worth a try but don't know if I would come try it again.

Aaron W.

Yelp
Great food and prices for happy hour ! Fast service and the building itself in is amazing as always

Danielle S.

Yelp
Really tasty! I loved the bowl I ordered, really tender and delicious meat would go again
google avatar

Yelp
They gave me MESSED UP SERVICE food is not good I rather pick YOSHINOYA 6 people working inside you guys still messed up my food trying something new here AT LBX guys don't try this waste of your money and time CLOSE IT DOWN

Jim

Yelp
Got the steak bites very flavorful and juicy came with rice it was very good loved the flavor washed it down with their Okinawa lemonade very refreshing

J K.

Yelp
Food is great and cooked well. The wagyu udon tasted very authentic and the ambiance feels like your in Japan
google avatar

James O.

Yelp
Was strolling by and decided to give this new place a try. So glad I did! I ordered the bento box with their Angus Harami steak and it was delicious. The house BBQ sauce was perfect as well and reminded me so much of the meals I had in Japan!
google avatar

Nis J.

Yelp
If you're feeling meaty, this is heaven. I love their selections but my favorite was their wagyu cuts. Everything was delicious and it's definitely a crowd please. Service was pretty good and it's located in LBX so you have all the comforts or a dine in location. Great service and interiors and I'll be back!
google avatar

Jorge F.

Yelp
$25 Bento box, was a great disappointment! It looks good but the garlic rice was room temperature cold. The "Wagyu" wasn't soft and tender as you expect. The temperature was also luke warm at best. I just ordered, picked it up and walked to the nearest open table and everything was cold. I would skip it if I were you as there are better options at the hanger.
google avatar

Sharon T.

Yelp
Holy holy. This place is a hidden gem! We ordered the beef tongue and the beef curry. The beef tongue plate was my favorite of the two! The meat was cooked just right--medium rare so that it wasn't chewy or tough. It came with rice and a pickled vegetable which balanced well with the meat. The beef curry dish was also great, as my very picky son actually asked for more! The curry was nice and thick in consistency, but was super flavorful. I would have preferred it to be a little bit spicier, but as long as my son was eating it, I was happy. Service was good--we got our order quickly and without much issue! It's located in a food hall, so expect the usual chaos associated with trying to find seating. It is worth it, and we will definitely be back for more!
google avatar

S G.

Yelp
Too bad this place is going downhill within just few months after opening in LBX hangar. I tried their bento plates, first time with Wagyu sticks and later with Kalbi. The wagyu did seem tender in the beginning but became chewy at the end - not sure what kind of "wagyu" it was. Yesterday I had the kalbi plate and was served 5 small cuts of half warm half cold kalbis on a bed of lettuce. This was accompanied by some rice and really small amounts of condiments. This meagre portion for $20 does not justify their existence at LBX where every other food joint are setting their bars so high.
google avatar

Jeff P.

Yelp
hello! tons of street parking, however, it can get packed as there are a lot of traffic that flows through here. near LGB airport about 3 mins away, good to grab a quick snack or meal. wagyu street meal was good, had a combo box, and there was a variety of items. when ordered you get a tracker and when your food is ready for pick up, the tracker would light up red and vibrate. overall, the steak was good, soft, and not overcooked. its a food court so its loud.

Christopher S.

Yelp
The food was prepared pretty quickly and it tasted amazing. The Wagyu Garlic Rice bowl is pricy but worth every cent. I highly recommend treating yourself here!

Kevin L.

Yelp
I don't usually leave 1-star reviews, but this experience was absolutely infuriating. I've never had yakisoba with such a pathetic amount of protein, barely 0.2 ounces of beef! Are you kidding me?! That's not a portion, that's a garnish! This is a complete rip-off. Diners, beware: there are plenty of other food options at LBX's Hangar dining hall. Do yourself a favor and eat literally anywhere else. And just to make it worse. I paid full price! Not some weekday lunch special. I expected a proper meal, not a noodle dish playing hide-and-seek with the meat. Absolutely unacceptable.

Ariana K.

Yelp
Just recently they added udon, there's a sukiyaki and tantan udon. I've tried both and they're really good. The portions for the meat in both udons are reasonably portioned out and fulfilling if you want a quick bite. Highly would recommend grabbing something here especially the udons !
