"Wagyu katsu sando (beef cutlet sandwiches) have been around for a long time, but under the able hands of Hisato Hamada, the dish is hip and cool. The sleek, Instagram-friendly, stand-and-eat shop is in the trendy Nakameguro area along the Meguro River. Diners select a cut of marbled beef, ranging in price from 2,000 to 20,000 yen ($19–$190), which is then breaded, deep-fried, and served as a sandwich. Truffle fries and salads round out the menu. Drinks include an impressive selection of craft beers, wine, and champagne."

The 15 Best New Restaurants in Tokyo | Eater

"Wagyu Mafia started as a private, invitation-only supper club, then grabbed headlines when it spun off this gyu-katsu (breaded beef cutlet) outlet, featuring wagyu versions up to 20,000 yen ($200) for a chateaubriand steak sandwich. There are plenty of cheaper cuts too, down to the 1,000-yen menchi (minced beef) option. But for those splurging, it also offers Opus One by the glass." - Robbie Swinnerton

Google
Very nice place, good service and excellent food. Don’t trust ignorant reviews thinking they could get high quality local and fresh wagyu meat for 250 in local currency. We got the Ozaki Tenderloin, Ozaki Tenderloin and the Kobe Chateaubriand. They were a progression of flavor and texture, each one better than another. We also got the Wagyu Mafia fries with umami salt. They were fresh, crunchy and absolutely delicious. Also the Sancho Beer and the Sour Ale were very soft and nice companion for the sandos, to make sure the protagonist is the meat you are paying for. The place is thought to be welcoming and gives you a personalized 1:1 experience. We were served by TP, a very nice and warm host. Ask for him. He for sure will give you an unforgivable experience! If you expect big american-sized portions with low quality meat for a couple of dollars, dont even bother come here. Maybe you are looking for a McDonalds!

Google
A little shop with few indoor spots that serves quality local beef on sandwiches 🥪. We were the first customers that rocked up before they even opened the doors because after seeing many viral places with long queues in Tokyo I always ensured that I made a reservation well beforehand to secure the spots anywhere we dined in. 🥹 Both ozaki and kobe were so tender and mouthwatering. Rich and bold flavour of the marbling fat with a glamorous touch of gold flakes we paired up with truffle fries and yuzu IPA 🍺 However, the 2 kinds of beef 🥩 tasted pretty much the same though. I reckon this place is still lacking some sort of ambience and interactions with customers and probably they have priced out lots of diners while there are many other options around such as yakiniku, omakase and fine dining in this price range. $400 for a sando snack is not something that anyone is willing to pay for. Will I come back to this place in future? Hmm… there are still many other sando shops in Ginza at more reasonable price wise that people would be tempted to experience indeed 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️ Price 3/5 | Food 4/5 | Service 4/5 | Vibe 3/5

Google
Best sandwich i’ve ever had. Definitely will return. Thank you. It was a magical experience. The service, the energy. Not just the food but the experience as a whole was great. Will definitely come back everytime I visit tokyo. どうもありがとうございます

Google
Really good food. But I’ve come to realise that there are plenty of places serving the same dish for a much more affordable price. I still believe this is really good and that everyone should experience this. But there are many places where you could experience something similar while spending maybe 2/3 of the price.

Google
I was introduced to Wagyu Mafia Burger in Gaienmae and they served me the most delicious Wagyu cutlet sandwich in the world! The staff member Naoki is also a very funny and great performer! Now that I've discovered the world's best hamburger and the world's best Wagyu cutlet sandwich at the same time, I can't go back home lol

Google
The menu may not look extensive but the quality, presentation and welcome is outstanding. Had the ozaki sirloin and ozaki tenderloin. Staff were amazing. Give the place a try you won’t regret it!

Google
This place is a tourist trap. The menu is designed to confuse non-Japanese customers: the prices are written in a misleading way, without commas and in a format that makes the numbers look much lower than they really are. In their replies to Google Reviews, the restaurant says that prices are explained to customers. This was not true in our case. No one clearly told us how expensive the sandwich was before we ordered, and we were never informed that we were ordering something at that price level. The interior feels more like a fast-food shop than a high-end restaurant, so there is nothing that visually suggests such extreme prices. In Tokyo, you can eat a full wagyu set lunch at a five-star hotel for less than what this sandwich costs. Getting just a few small pieces of cutlet in a sandwich for that price is not reasonable. I do not recommend this place. You do not get value for the money you pay.

Google
Really friendly staff! We had the Zabuton fillet and the Gigolo minced patty. Both were excellent cooked well. We also tried the truffle fries, they were very tasty but were a small portion and a little cold.

Yelp
I'm glad I got to try this place. Seen it online before I came to Japan and decided to preorder. This is a small place , so reservations are required if you are eating in to try their delicious sandwiches. Service was excellent. It's a very small and cute interior with room for a table and bar seating. But it's the wagyu sandwiches that you come for. We ordered Ozaki tenderloin sandwiches for the kids and the Chateaubriand for us. The tenderloin sandwiches were tender and soft, a little fattier cut, but so good. Their chateaubriand was excellent! It was a thick cut of meat cooked to perfection. It was moist, tender and tasted really good. They even do a little gold dusting show for you. Really good sandwich, will come back again.

Yelp
I've been following Hamada-san on IG for quite some time now and finally had the opportunity to visit their cutlet sandwich store in Meguro during our last trip. Love how they engage their customers during the meal which makes it unique and fun. Their other locations require a membership in order to dine with them which makes it a semi private experience. The cutlet outlet doesn't require advance reservations or a membership so this gives the general public a preview of what the full blown wagyu meal is like at their Butcher shop. Knowing we had a dinner reservation at Sézanne later that night, we ended up sharing 2 sandwiches and fries. The truffle fries were fried to a perfect golden brown and were well seasoned. As my wife and friend aren't big wagyu eaters, we opted for the leaner sirloin and menchi katsu sando. Simply put, the cutlet sandwiches were awesome and loved their house hot sauces. Was a fun experience and think I'd try to get a membership if my wife was a bigger meat eater. We were also lucky enough to get samples of their ultra highball and ultra garlic potato chips. The chips were so good that I ended up bringing home 12 bags!! Look for them at Family Marts throughout Japan!!

Yelp
Bamboozled. That's the first word I thought of after my first bite. You're paying very western pries for a meager amount of what I believe is high quality wagyu but with the way it was cooked... I honestly couldn't tell. The staff were energetic and friendly but it was just a tad bit awkward when I tried to hide my disappointment with the sandwich. We walked across the river to Iroha sushi and had a full meal after. $4-5/Uni nigiri made our stomachs happier/

Yelp
I'm disappointed to say that the châteaubriant completely lacked flavour. Ambience was underwhelming. Gimmicky and unfortunately seems like a marketing scam. Not worth the visit

Yelp
I came here on a tuesday afternoon. It was rainy and I managed to find it. Located behind a building, I entered and ordered the knuckle. It was $30 USD. They have even more expensive sandwiches that go up to $200 USD for the Kobe beef. I waited about 15 minutes for my sandwich to come to my table. I took a bite. Although it was good, I didn't think it was worth $30 USD. I even bit into some connective tissue. The beef was good and it was soft to the bite. But it's definitely overpriced. I wouldn't come again.

Yelp
Saw this place on YouTube and I had to check it out. My thought is if you sale a Katsu Sando with wagyu beef that costs $321 (35,000 yen), it has got to be good. I opted to go with the Kobe Sirloin this time which cost $165 (18,000 yen) because I was told it had great marbling and it did not disappoint. Each bite of this katsu sando was incredibly juicy and well worth the money spent. Oh and don't forget the add some Wagyusco if you go. Even though it looked small it was definitely filling. But thinking I'll buy 2 next time. Lol. I am definitely looking forward to going back next spring.

Yelp
This was one of our stops while vacationing in Japan. After hearing so much about wagyu sandwich we had to try it. We had the Kobe beef tenderloin and the wagyu tenderloin. Both was great, I prefer the Wagyu Tenderloin while my friend preferred the other. Also, they have their own hot sauce which is really good too!

Yelp
What sandwich costs 4000-20000 yen (roughly 40-200 us $!)? A pure Wagyu beef sandwich. On the lower end you have the Japanese Zabuton cut (pillow). On the high end you could get an A5 Chateaubriand. That's some serious scratch. Luckily for us we ran into the owners one night post drinking and bonded over ramen, and then got invited to try some of said samples of beef. Very tasty but since it was late night not during retail operations, this is a somewhat biased and one off viewpoint. Soft fatty beef melts in your mouth and simply seasoned. Compared to say the multi sliced, tomato spread one youd get at say Shima in Nihonbashi, it's just yet another awesome food genre that seems to exist only in Japan. Or does it? They also told us theyre opening none other than in San Francisco where I live. fuck Yeah. Super nice people, tasty food and great hospitality. Now when i go home I can look forward to getting the beef again. Just probably not under the same circumstances.

Yelp
Wow. They have 6 different grades of meat for sandwiches. We had 3 different selections. Wagyu Zabuton, Wagyu Sirloin and Kobe Sirloin. All spectacular. Truffle fries were also very good. Very special treat. Nice staff. Limited seating.

Yelp
came here in search of "THE WAGYU SANDWICH" thats hitting social media like crazy. yup, got emails about them and how its making their way to the US. since im in japan, i need to try the OG. came here for lunch and the owner was a one man show. he warmed up after a little bit we began talking. he was nice and thanks his customers on IG all the time, which is nice. got the Wagyu sando, which was bomb. the meat was nice and tender and in between 2 slices of super soft and fluffy toasted white bread with their yuzu tabasco sauce and truffle salt was amazing. the price surprised me when i looked at my credit card bill, but whatever, i was on vacation and it was a great experience and taste to my mouth and belly.it coast about $95 for that sando, but man, i dream about it all the time. they have all sorts of cuts and less expensive sandos too.
