A Massive Indoor Vietnamese Market Could Open in San Jose | Eater SF

"I read about Wah Jee Wah's chef-owner Rounak Dumra, who after recovering from a stroke at 35 is back in Hayward doing what he feels he must: cooking; the restaurant, which focused on open-flame cooking, reopened in July." - Paolo Bicchieri

The BBQ flavors weren’t bad, but the overall experience was disappointing. Our order came out wrong, and several items were overcooked. The “lamb kebab” was actually a seekh-style ground lamb kebab, not chunks as expected, and the lamb chops were tiny. Rice portions were small, and the bread was paper-thin and burnt on the underside. Service was slow, and the table they “cleaned” for us was still sticky. Seating is outdoors only, so it was uncomfortably hot during our visit. With better order accuracy, portion sizes, and basic cleanliness, this place could be solid—but as of now, I can’t recommend it.

Google
The food tastes very authentic, and the BBQ is exceptionally authentic. The owner is very welcoming and warm. When my friends and I were there, some people who looked like gangsters or thugs came to collect protection money. I hope everyone can speak out and work together to protect these businesses from bullying by local ruffians and gangsters.

Google
We had 2 chk skewers and chole bhature. The taste was good. The ambience is like of a Indian highway Dhaba. We did dine in and smelled liked charcoal after coming home. I should have realised the impact of open bbq kitchen . Overall it's okay.

Google
8 of us showed up half an hour before closing and they did a very good job catering large amounts of food. though they were out of their specialty quesadillas. the food was underwhelming though the curry needed some more cooking and smelled of raw ginger garlic. the skewers were tasty. will be back to get a better taste.

Google
This is a one of a kind place in Hayward. If you like barbecue food and Indian food, this is the place to visit. They have a small menu and very limited veg options. As an Indian, the paneer was marinated well but I would have liked it to be spicier. Definitely worth visiting.

Google
I’m not a fan of posting negative reviews but this place fell short of all the craze from Social Media. Traveling for work and saw this place on TikTok. My friend and I went and spent $40 for my meal. My chicken was undercooked, the naan was overcooked which cracked. The masala Mac did not taste good. We both had a few bites and left the food on the table.

Google
The food was delicious! We tried the Peanut Masala with Papad, Lamb Chops, Chicken Legs and Khati Calcutta. Everything was perfect. Lamb was brilliantly moist and spiced. Same goes for the Chicken. The Khati is actually their roll. It was good too. Even the simplest dish of all - Peanut Masala with Papad was a hit! Definitely coming back for more!

Google
We were a tad bit disappointed with the skewers! Our thought of an Indian tandoor/grill restaurant is one that has decent masala flavors in the marination. The paneer skewer had no flavor and wasn’t well cooked and hard to chew. The chicken was much better but as it’s open grill, the outside gets burnt and inside was dry. Overall lack of flavors that we were anticipating. Masala fries was no good, the peanut masala tasted good and is the North Indian style, not fried. Chola Bhatura probably was our pick among the options we tried. It was flavorful. Staff is great and we didn’t have any problems finding parking or a table outside.

Yelp
The food was pretty good, but the lamp chips definitely stole the show. We tried the lamp hops, the chicken tikka masala mac n cheese, and one the combo options which had CHIKEN, Kebob and rice. The food was fresh and tasted delicious, the rice was a little cold though. The service was good, they were going as fast as they could and were friendly. They also had limited seating as it was an outdoor area.

Yelp
Good spot for barbecue with Indian flavors. My friend and I came Friday night around 7 pm, and when placing our order, the guy told us that they were severely backed up and that it'd take an hour for us to get any food. We decided to wait it out as we weren't super hungry and didn't mind the wait. Also, they were already out of chicken tikka and lamb seek kabobs, which is unfortunate because I was planning to order both. We ordered: Chole bhature ($16) Grilled chicken legs ($8) Grilled lamb chops ($9) The way it works here is you order first and get a number, then you find a spot to sit. They have plenty of outdoor seating as well as some tables indoors as well. We were prepared to wait a while to get our food, but surprisingly, we got the chole bhature after 20 minutes and the grilled meats after another 5 minutes. The chole bhature wasn't that good tbh. The bhature was fried well, but the chole was a bit sweet which we found incredibly weird. I enjoyed both the chicken and the lamb, but the chicken was definitely my favorite as parts of the lamb were a bit overdone and dry. I also felt like prices were a bit high for the amount of meat you get. I thought this place was good but I like Keeku ka Dhaba in Fremont more for Indian grilled meats.

Yelp
i first tried their chicken tikka at a yelp event and immediately wanted to visit the main location. the first thing that hit was the smell of bbq-ed meats -- so enticing!! picnic tables are first-come first-serve, communal, and giving outdoor bbq vibes. service was friendly and ambiance was very chill. the goods: - chicken tikka kebab (10/10 ): perfectly grilled, juicy, flavorful, delicious. comes with some sort of green, herb sauce (similar to chimichurri) and picked onions. - lamb seek kebab (7/10): not bad but nothing spectacular either. the gamey flavor of lamb was well balanced with the slices, but overall just not as satisfying as a succulent piece of bbq chicken. - masala mac (6/10): interesting concept but could have had more masala flavor in the roux or just throughout. also it was a bit oily so as an appetizer, it felt a bit too heavy. noodles were cooked perfectly though and the cheese on top had great charred bits. it's ok but probably wouldn't get it again.

Yelp
So glad we tried this place! We saw the freshly grilled meat skewers outside and were immediately intrigued. They have a bunch of picnic tables outside to eat at and the space is shared with a pizza spot next door. They have complimentary chai tea, which was delicious. It already had some milk and sugar in it. Service was very welcoming and helpful. Here's what we ordered: 2 skewer combo plate with chicken: Chicken skewers were very tender and juicy! Loved the curry sauce to dip the chicken and naan in. Lamb chop: I'm not a lamb fan, but my husband said it was nicely cooked and made fresh. He'd want to try the lamb skewer next time! Garlic naan: Pretty good! Not the best I've had but pretty standard. Wish it was more light and fluffy. Masala fries: I appreciated how these were homemade and piping hot, but I wish they were crispy. The seasoning was also very light. Wouldn't get again. Mango lassi: Delicious!

Yelp
Sooooooo good!!!! Came here Saturday early evening and at first was confused about the ordering situation. This outdoor, window order location is right next to a pizza spot and had a 4 covered tables that can seat up to 6 or 8. I was worried I'd be cold but it's covered and not unbearable. Free water and chai, which was the perfect sweetness but they provide sugar for you to add if you want it. Now to the food ... the skewers ARE SO DANG GOOD! Grilled to order, we got the 2 skewer combo with chicken tikka and lamb seekh. Both were delicious, but the chicken was our favorite. SO juicy and tender. The WJW sauce was good, though nothing to rave about. The garlic naan was also good. We also ordered the Masala Mac, which, I was very excited to try and it is definitely something to get at least once. Though, if I'm being honest, I wouldn't order again unless I was in the mood for it. The aloo tikki chaat was also delicious and something I would order again. If you decide to eat there, be prepared to smell like BBQ! lol we sat at the second to last table and my hair and clothes ended up smelling like charcoal/smoke. That's on me though - I should've known! The skewers are the star - you won't be disappointed trying any of them! Definitely check this place out.

Yelp
Order ALL your food at once, and carry some salt from home ... You wonder why? Read on ... We had loved this place for their food and courteous service the last few times we went, but last night was a different story. We went here with guests and had a disappointing experience. As we were placing our order, we were informed that the wait would at least be 45 min to an hour. Oh well .. good grilled kebabs take time, so we settled in for the wait. We ordered methi mutter malai, daal makhani, butter chicken, lamb kebabs, chicken leg kebab, paneer tikka kebab, rice, garlic naan and butter naan and a mango lassi. When our food came, they had swapped out the paneer tikka kebab for chicken leg kebab without informing us, and when we checked, we were informed that they had run out of paneer tikka. Okay, but at least inform us in advance! Next, we tasted the daal makhani, butter chicken and methi mutter malai and found that all three dishes needed salt for our palate. When we asked the person who was taking orders for salt, we were told that they use black salt - we were like fine, give us black salt. At which he proceeded to inform us that he legally couldn't give us salt since it was not packaged. Huh ?!? Where did this come from? Fortunately, the pizzeria next door was kind enough to give us some salt else we would have been unable to eat the dishes. Oh well. As we were eating, we realized we needed 1 more naan - when we went to order it, the same person informed us that the extra naan would take an hour because they had many online orders. This was the last straw! We gave up. Clearly, they didn't care to serve their dine-in patrons. Oh well! As for the food, the kebabs were stellar. The methi mutter malai was sourish and I wouldn't order it again. Given the lack of salt, I wouldn't recommend the daal makhani or the butter chicken which, even after adding salt were just about okay. Needless to say, we all left disappointed by the callous attitude. Sad to say that I will think twice before I revisit this place.

Yelp
This place was a bit disappointing on our third attempt. The masala Mac and cheese just tasted like regular Mac n cheese. If I didn't know it was supposed to taste like masala I wouldn't have known the difference. Wasn't creamy/saucy underneath the hardened dried cheese this time. The lamb kabob was dry too. Chicken was juicy though. The place is a little overpriced for what you get imo.

Yelp
Wah Jee Wah can be located on block next to Mexico Super, next to Rayo's Pizza. A grill area is next to a canopied dining area. Additional dining at lounge inside building, also @right alongside of building. Offerings (upscale Indian BBQ): appetizers, combo plates, main dishes, skewers, drinks, sides. Chef Rounak Dumra sometimes has a special menu available. Order near grill area. Food ready in 15ish minutes. Self serve masala chai. Bites: 2 skewer combo (26), garlic naan (+1) -comped masala chai perfecto. -jumbo shrimps, lamb chops previously marinated. Slowly grilled, probably twice. Smoky, tender, juicy. Not overcharred. WJW sauce tomato based with special ingredients & medium spicy kick so addicting! Mild green salsa too. -fluffy white basmatic rice flavor neutral to allow skewer meats to breathe flavas. -garlic naan very aromatic with fragrant garlicness. 5 stars!

Yelp
I found this place through a friend of a friend. My boyfriend enjoyed it so much we got it two days in a row. We over ordered for 4 people. 1/2 big boy platter comes with 6 skewers/ meat options. This is great for groups. The meat was yummy. The lamb chop was my favorite. My friend loves their chole masala. If you like chickpeas this is a good option for you. We also got the masala Mac. The flavor is subtle. The mango lassi was delicious. The second time we came, my boyfriend and I both ordered a 2 skewer combo as well as a chole masala. The leftovers made a delious dinner.

Yelp
First time at Wah Jee Wah. There was a wait to order, but that's a good sign. They have an open charcoal grill where they cook the meats. I ordered the 2 plate combo with chicken and lamb, the Golgappe, and chole bhature. The Chile Bhature was my favorite!!! The chicken was so soft and juicy. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Hayward. The restroom is shared with the pizza restaurant. Not much parking unfortunately. The staff is really nice! Seating is mostly outdoors.

Yelp
yumm!! This is a good option if you're eating with a group. Everything was so good and cooked perfectly. We got the big boy platter (12 skewers) and it can easily feed 6 people. Lamb 4.5/5 Chicken Tikka 4.3/5 Paneer 4.4/5

Yelp
The staff is really kind and courteous. We went on a day they were super occupied & hence did not have full stock everything we wanted. But they offered us alternatives & we enjoyed the chaat & paneer tikka bbq a lot. It has a nice outdoor patio seating facing hills.

Yelp
Tried out WJW Sun 11/24/24 for the first time. It's next to Rayo's Pizza and Mexico Super Market, Hayward, across from Chapel of the Chimes. Stand next to the menu and lady helped us explaining the menu and took our order. We got: Chicken tikka kabob $9 Lamb seek kabob $9 Marsala Mac & cheese $10 Garlic naan $4 Dal makhani $14 Mango lassi $5 Chicken was 4 small piece very tasty, not dry. Lamb was just 1 long kabob we shared it. Tasty. Marsala Mac & cheese was meh too me, not enough flavor and just mushy. Garlic naan was 4 pieces - liked it fine. Mango lassi was yummy! Free Marsala chai and water if u want it, help yourself. Husband charged it. Bathrooms - inside Rayo's Pizza on the left, separate men & women's. Women just 1 toilet & sink. Loud DJ out by pizza place. All outdoor dining for WJW so I can be cold and loud from music and road noise from busy Mission Blvd. I would go back & do take-out instead. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DCxr8Divcau/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

Yelp
Ahhh I'm a fan! I'm a whore for grilled meats, I don't eat pork or beef. I feel like This spot was made for me! It is all halal, and lamb is the only red meat they serve (yes!) Everything was hot and fresh, the meats are marinated and grilled to perfection. The staff are so nice and accommodating. My toddler had not eaten very much, so the staff delighted him with his first mango Lassee, he loved it. If you enjoy tandoori, you will absolutely love WJW!
google avatar

Jesse F.

Yelp
Had these guys at a pop up since they closed their location. The food is still amazing and I can't believe I've never had halal BBQ until this year! They plan to open another location. But in the meantime check their instagram for their pop up locations!

Yelp
Oh my god, this place has been on my list for so long (years) and I finally got to try it! Very few places in the bay area has decent Indian tandoor stuff, this definitely lived up to the hype. The setting is casual, with tandoor setting in the outdoor, with some outdoor seatings and some indoor seating as well. Ordered half big boy platter (6 skewers of our choice) and went with: lamb chops, chicken tikka, chicken leg, paneer, shrimp. really liked the lamb chops and chicken tikka and leg, it was juicy and fresh (not rubber-y like many other places). I would probably skip the shrimp next time. Service was not too bad - the food was cooked right in front of us, and took probably 20 mins. Would come back here, for sure!

Yelp
Finally made it to Wah Jee Wah on a Friday evening. Really tasty food! My favorite was the chicken leg - wonderfully seasoned and very moist. We also tried the lamb seek and the chicken tikka kabob, which were also tasty but a little dry. A surprise delight was the masala Mac, which was nice and cheesy with masala seasoning. The WJW sauce went well with the garlic naan and rice, and the chutney was a nice complement to the lamb seek. The restaurant has a unique setup. The grilling is done outdoors on the left side of the building. There is a pizza joint in the center of the building, and then you order food at a counter in the right side of the building. There's a lot of outdoor seating, and limited indoor seating in the room with the counter. A server brings your order to you at your table. There's a private parking lot in front. It was a beautiful day in the East Bay, so the weather was perfect for outdoor dining, but it's annoying to have to keep swatting away the flies. The restaurant's beer tap was out of order, so the only drink options were soft drinks and complimentary water and chai. The restaurant accepted credit cards and Apple Pay. $26 for a combo plate seems a little pricey, but the servings are large and I suppose grilled meats are usually expensive. We had a wonderful meal (except for the flies!) and plan to be back.

Yelp
Wah Jee Wah on Thornton Ave. the original staple. We used to come here after school and grub after football practice. If you know you know, don't be getting no massages either. I've known Chef since HS, and he's been grinding ever since to pursue his passion. I've been away for several years, but I had to come by and try his spot out in Hayward. I could smell the bbq from Mission Blvd. when i got there, I was greeted by a nice host who took my order and showed me the menu. I got the two piece combo with chicken and lamb chop. SMACK!!! This was served with garlic naan, picked onion, green chutney and butter sauce. What great sides to pull all that together. The meats, to the naan had so much flavor and so tender. That's what won me over. My mom and I really enjoyed this and will be back next week. Thank you Wah Jee Wah and my homie Chef Ron! God bless.

Yelp
One of the best Indian places in east bay! This place is a hidden Indian gem. The food is as authentic as can be in USA. We ordered the chole batura, skewers and chicken leg, peanuts, mango lassi and lime soda. The chole batura includes two batura, a mildly spiced chole, pickled onions and chutney. The batura s are very crunchy and big in portion. The combo plate includes rice, four chicken skewers, chicken leg, garlic naan, and gravy. The chicken skewers are moist and very well cooked. They really know how to barbeque. It's very hard to find Indian places in general who knows how to bbq. Th mango lassi tastes very smooth, although not a big fan of lime soda. The peanuts come with papad and Indian spices, again not something to come again for. Overall, a must visit and will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Finally had the chance to try Wah Jee Wah at the Bhangra and Beats night market in SF. Of course at pop ups the food can be pricey and portions small- however the masala Mac and cheese and the grill items were fire. I will have to give the original location a shot! Would recommend trying this place out if you see them at a pop up

Yelp
Wah Jee Wah has the vibe of an outdoor barbecue with picnic tables and an outdoor grill. Indeed this is the only place I've ever encountered that grills Indian-style skewers over an open flame! The half Big Boy Platter came with a choice of six kebabs, allowing us to sample nearly all of their proteins: paneer tikka, chicken tikka, lamb seek, chicken leg, lamb chops, and shrimp. Each of these had a delicious marinade and smoky flavor, and were cooked just right to juicy, caramelized perfection! The grilled proteins were accompanied by red onions, cilantro/mint chutney, rice, thin/crispy naan, and a creamy, spiced Wah Jee Wah sauce. We also got several entrees including Butter Chicken (made of chopped chicken tikka mixed with the Wah Jee Wah sauce) and Chole Masala (chickpeas in a dark brown onion gravy), both of which came in generous portions and were incredibly flavorful and delicious. Everything also came at a great value and with quick, friendly service, and there was free, self-serve chai and water too!
google avatar

Gina H.

Yelp
I've never had Indian food served like this. It's some what like a bbq style over flame and charcoal. The food was pretty good, & they have outdoor seating. Be mindful that you might end up smelling like bbq like we did. The price point here is pretty affordable which is a huge plus. They also offer free chai tea! The service was an A+, the young lady was super attentive and asked if we needed recommendations. Overall, we had a really great experience.
google avatar

Samir K.

Yelp
Great BBQ! Ambiance is definitely a little rustic, as it's mostly park benches and outdoors. Service is also nice, and there is free chai while you wait. Just fyi it isn't super kid friendly (ie no high chairs etc), but the food is great! The kulcha has a lot of coriander seeds in it, and the shahi paneer is a little mild, but overall the meat is the star and that is delicious. I really haven't had chicken this good. It's a bit far from the freeway so it might take a while to get there, but it's probably worth a stop!
google avatar

Gargi A.

Yelp
Good food though a few things were out of stock when we went. I think the lamb chops were the best thing on the menu. Chicken curry was ok - not what I expected from an authentic Indian place , basically less rich but also not very home style. Service is basic. It was very hot that day so not the most comfortable to sit outdoors.
google avatar

Amit T.

Yelp
So we got the chicken roll, the masala, papa, Dalal, the onion Kulcha, the butter Nan , chicken tikka, paneer Tikka It was all OK. Net net if you're commuting less than 15 minutes come check it out. Try a couple of times and see what works for you. But if you're commuting for more than 15-20 minutes, then I would reconsider.

Yelp
Let me tell yall GAAAASSSSSS. Food is immaculate. The vibes are vibing. Protein, straaaaaaaaaight fire.

Sahil G.

Yelp
This place is crazy good! Walking up you see all the skewers being barbecued on a large grill out front. The owner was cooking and welcoming everyone coming in. There is a couple of table and benches to eat there, but it is all outside seating. We ordered the 2 skewer combo with paneer and chicken tikka, masala mac, butter chicken, lamb seekh kabob and an onion kulcha. Everything came out really well, everything tasted really fresh down to the chutney. Super flavorful. Our favorite items were the butter chicken, chicken tikka and garlic naan. The price is on the higher side compared to other spots, but well worth it. The customer service here is one of the best I've seen in a while, the owner himself was walking around checking on all the guests personally making sure everything was to their satisfaction. They also provided free HOT masala chai while you wait.
google avatar

Poonam M.

Yelp
This is an outside bbq place some heaters and some seating inside. They bbq in front of the parking area, so feels like a street side stall in india , we tried the lamb sheek, lamb chops both we tender, comes with green chutney. For vegetarians we got chole and paneer curry Paneer was very soft and our favorite for the night. Also ordered plain naan, garlic naan and onion kulcha . Definitely go with the onion kulcha
google avatar

Ajay K.

Yelp
The service is quick. Aloo Tikki chaat was 10/10. The chicken tikka and chicken leg were juicy. Dal Makhani was perfect consistency . All in all we enjoyed the food here. The owner was welcoming and sweet.

Yelp
Drove 30 min on a Saturday to try this spot. According to google and yelp, they open at 12. Got there at 12:15 hungry and excited. Was then rudely told they don't open until 1. I said that their hours online said 12, and she said "yeah we need to update that but we definitely don't open at 12." So don't trust their hours :(

Yelp
A Flavorful Fusion of Indian and American Cuisine at Wah Jee Wah Hidden away in a random complex in Hayward is the culinary gem known as Wah Jee Wah. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but step into the patio and you're transported into a vibrant space brimming with tantalizing aromas and a unique melding of Indian and American flavors. The masala mac and cheese immediately caught my eye on the menu - an ingenious fusion dish combining the gooey, cheesy comfort of mac and cheese with the warm, earthy spices of Indian masala. The first bite was an explosion of rich creaminess contrasted with the complex, slightly smoky notes of the masala spice blend. Each forkful seemed to reveal a new layer of flavor I hadn't detected before. Not wanting to fill up too much on just one dish, I also ordered the skewer plate - a carnivore's delight. Generous chunks of tender lamb seekh kebab arrived sizzling from the outdoor tandoori grill alongside two decent lamb chops, their charred exterior giving way to soft, slightly overcooked meat inside. The accompanying garlic naan was think but soft with just the right amount of chew, perfect for sopping up the velvety tikka masala gravy. On the side, the chicken tikka kebab was subtly smoky and incredibly moist. The chicken tikka was my favorite as it was so perfectly cooked and tender. The only misstep of the evening was the masala soda, which had an oddly savory taste reminiscent of the pani puri water. It didn't quite work as a sweet beverage accompaniment. Despite the soda miss, the overall experience was one of surprising and satisfying flavors. Wah Jee Wah has found a winning formula by blending beloved American comfort foods with the vibrant spices and preparations of Indian cuisine. At around $30 per person including drinks, it's an affordable way to take your taste buds on a culinary voyage of flavor fusion. Just be sure to save room for the masala mac and cheese!

Yelp
I've been here twice and love love love the butter chicken. It goes so well with rice and garlic naan. I also love the mango lassi as it's sweet and not tart unlike other spots I've tried. The chicken tikka is cooked perfectly, juicy and not dry. The masala mac has a different take and although not my favorite, still really good. This place is a 10/10 on service and food. I will be back again!!

Yelp
I would give this place a 6/5 if I could! :) Tried this on a Sunday lunch with friends. We ordered 1/2 big boy platter, garlic nan and mango lassi. Between 4 people it was a good amount of food. Furthermore the grilled food was solid. If you go, I highly recommend the chicken as it was the best of the skewer options, 2nd to that was the lamb chops. The naan was fresh and felt like but flavorful! What made the naan even better was eating it with the curry and sauces that came with our big boy platter. The mango lassi is solid and the free chai was also a nice edition. Not only was the food good but the service was amazing. You can tell the owners really care about the food and went around to speak to all the customers. The servers kept coming around to checkin and see if we needed anything else. I will definitely be a regular and I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Super high quality food! The chicken tikka was very juicy and flavorful. Unfortunately I felt like the price was exorbitant for the amount of food (4 pieces of chicken + bread cost $16)

Yelp
Came around 7pm and it was pretty busy. Parking lot was full so had to park residential. They have outdoor seating, seating on the side and inside their restaurant. But there's a pizza place in between their indoor space and where you order. I got the 2 skewer combo plate with chicken tikka kabob and lamb seek kabob for around $24. This meal comes with rice, 1 naan, and two sauces. The curry sauce was too spicy for me but the mint chutney was perfect. It's good for two people. They also have unlimited chai. Service was great and the owner (at least I think it was) came around asking how everything was. Overall, I'd come back and try more of their skewers and maybe their fish curry!

Yelp
So mad I had to give 3 stars but let me explain. We came on a Saturday evening right after opening so it was not too busy. I ordered about $50 worth of food and was super excited to try. Food is all made to order so it was understandable that the wait would be longer than normal. In fact the lady taking the orders was really good at communicating when food was going to be ready and since it was such a hot day she also offered a Lassi while we waited. As I waited I was able to see that the workers were trying to confirm all the orders verbally and making sure they were fulfilling orders accordingly. I did grow a little.worried because they we just yelling out the orders and did not seem to be going off a screen or paper, I could have easily missed it tho. When my order was called, I couldn't run fast enough. Heard great things about this food and the smell in the air made it that much more desirable. I opted to talk my food home to be comfortable at home in A/C lol. It took me a bit to leave because I had to situated my little.one before take off. Luckily I did because right as I was getting ready to jump in the driver seat a worker approached me with our missing butter chicken order. I think at this point I should have checked my order but I figured since he came to bring me a missing item, they could not have forgotten more......I was wrong. Got home and found out my favorite item was missing garlic Naan. I was so sad. Luckily I did get the butter chicken before I left but had I not they would have almost missed half my order. I think the order checking should get some fine tuning or maybe they just had an off day. To say the least, the food was still hot, flavorful and worth the wait. I do wanna comeback as they did not have shrimp on my visit but just hope they don't forget anything next time.

Yelp
Such a fun place for some amazing Indian barbecue. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. A cool setup of tables with heaters and lights with a person grilling right by it, this is a great one. The vegetarian menu is vast, but there are only 2 grilled items; paneer tikka and mushroom. We got their combo with one skewer each of these. It came with a bowl of rice, a naan, another bowl full of their signature sauce and some onions and chili. Overall, this itself was enough for the two of us. We really wanted to try their masala Mac and cheese so would go back for that. Besides, they have some traditional curries with naan and rice on the menu. And they offer free chai, which was pretty delicious. They do have far more options for non vegetarian grilling. This place offers skewers by itself, in combination with rice and naan. Their signature sauce in the combo is super amazing. And the naan is perfect too. Overall, a fun place for a meal. Definitely going back for more!

Yelp
I love the masala mac, aloo tikki chaat, chole, and masala lime here!!! I love that there is a good selection of healthy protein options and indian comfort food classics. I had the famous masala mac today and it did not disappoint! I have never tried anything similar to it its like mac and cheese in a rich creamy buttery tomatoey goodness sauce. Eating the Hot hot gulab jamuns felt like my heart received a warm hug.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food here! First thing you notice when you arrive is the grill out front with all the meats cooking and smelling delicious. Food came out quick and service was very attentive. We ordered the combo skewer plate with chicken tikka and lamb chop. Chicken was super tender and juicy and the lamb chop had great flavor. Also ordered a side of the paneer skewer which was also really good. Not pictured, but we went and ordered some more food and got the lamb seek kabob and masala mac n cheese. Lamb kabob was packed with flavor and mac n cheese was so different and works so well! Had a great balance of cheese and masala flavor and was some of the best mac n cheese I've had. Overall, this is a great place to have a nice and chill dinner with some of the best indian food around. The staff was always coming out to check up on us which I always appreciate in a restaurant. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
These folks are terrific. I assume they do more catering and other engagements as sadly they aren't open a lot. At most 4 hours a day, and the times vary widely. Sunday 12-4, M-Tue closed, Wed-Thu 6-9, Fri-Sat 6-10. They quality of grilled items are amazing. We love the 1/2 Big Boy with the skewers of chicken tikka, lamb kabob, lamb chop and the great sides. The masala Mac and cheese is really something to try. It is mostly take away as the seating is all outdoor. And the ambiance is very informal, with the orders going through a window with delivery on the side. Seating Ali's all self service. We love it, even though it is pretty expensive...but you get quality, so is worth it when we can.

Yelp
Awesome place with lovely service. Yummy food. Got the fat boy grill combo which ones with 6 skewers (you pick those six) and one bug bowl of rice, gravy, 8 or so naan pieces and some pickles onions. We picked all 4 meat choices: chicken leg was just awesome: very flavorful, juicy (albeit not filling), lamb chops are in the same boat: grilled to perfextion. The chicken kabob and lamb sheesh were good and help you fill. Either it's so yummy or we were just hungry, the bug boy platter was not sufficient meat for 5 of us (which includes 2 kids) While one big bowl of (jeera) rice is not sufficient, one can get more for $4 each. Mind you: they are on the slower side as they tend to cater a lot or have lots of to go orders.

Yelp
So highly rated and saw an Instagram video so thought we would try this place. Popped by on a Friday night after ordering online and it was SO HARD to find parking. It was def busy. Then I stood in the long line only for the lady to tell me I can just go to where they are cooking and give them my name. Now noted for next time. At least you know it's fresh? Waiting in line for 20 minutes I def left with my hair and clothes smelling like bbq smoke. The paratha at $3 each is ok, doesn't taste much different than the ones you find in the freezer section at the asian markets. We also got the masala fries which had GREAT flavor, but there was something off about the texture. Yes they were soggy, but it was almost like they were undercooked or boiled. The texture was mushy but hard in the middle. We also got the 2 skewer combo which ones with one paratha, rice, and sauces. We got the lamb chop and the lamb kebab, the only dish we thought was worth it. For $24 there were 2 lambchops and they were decent in size, and one kebab. The lambchops were flavorful and what garnered all these stars from me. It wasn't too gamey and the seasonings was great. We also had an order of buttered chicken (which doesn't come with anything) so we ordered extra paratha and more rice at home. The butter chicken was decent flavor but for the price ($14) I can get the same elsewhere and with a side of rice. This one also seemed to have more skin and "meat pieces/cartilage" vs just thigh or breast meat. It seemed like they tossed in fillers and we found random macaroni pieces, probably from the masala mac and cheese except we didn't order any of that.

Yelp
Real experience of indian flavors bbq. Got the big boy platter and family loved it. All the meats were very well marinated, and you could tell they were prepared ahead of time. Cooking over a real wood/ charcoal also makes a huge difference. Last but not least, great sauces on the side. Highly recommended, especially the lamb seekh kebeb

Yelp
Got word of this place from a bay area Tik Toker and we were persuaded to come out to Hayward to try it. Easy to find and we took the third exit I believe coming off of the 92 San Mateo bridge. Pulling up, they have a small parking lot, but there is more parking on both sides of the street. There is a pizza joint on the opposite side of the building. There were benches in the front, side, back, and indoors. Seems like a popular place, there were a lot of people already there waiting. They cook your food once your order is placed. We took a look at the menu and decided on ordering: - Half of the big boy platter (6 skewers of your choice) and it comes with rice, pickled onions & mint chutney, naan bread, and tikka masala sauce. They recommended that we choose the lamb chops and chicken quarter. We also ordered the chicken kabobs and the lamb kabobs. That lamb chop was seasoned well, tasty, hot off the grill, it was my favorite thing to eat. It was a small chop, I wished it was bigger cause I love lamb. The chicken was also tender and juicy. Hubby and I made tacos with the naan bread adding the masala sauce & pickled onions mmmmm so good!! The naan bread was fresh and warm, like a blanket for my tongue. Constant dips in the masala sauce. I tried the mint chutney, but it was a little salty for me. - The masala mac N cheese First time trying this. My hubby and I couldn't get over how *SMACK*tastic it was. Masala flavored spiced sauce with cheesy goodness on the top. Must try! We ordered a tray to go, yes we did . - The appetizer (I don't remember the name) was a unique bite. It was like this small, thin, crisp dough egg shaped with an opening that was filled with this cold Indian spiced sauce and potatoes. It has a little kick . I liked it, it was packed with a big punch of flavor. I had two and stopped to wait for the rest of the food hehe. We were able to get a bench close to the counter. Nice little sitting area. I saw people come and go with children & dogs. Give them a try

Yelp
All I have to say after enjoying this meal is "WAH JEE WAH!" . (lol I don't speak any languages native to India) .
