Wakasa Sushi

I highly recommend this restaurant. The first thing you gonna notice from the photos I attached is HOW BIG each sushi is...! maybe 3 times as big as that of conveyer belt sushi restaurants such as Sushiro and Kurazushi. Not to mention the quality authentic ingredients. The prices depend on which menu you choose around 1500-2500 yen per person. It is worth the price although the location is a bit far from Mitaka Station.

DON’T GO HERE! The giant, store bought fish is not worth it. (It’s true, it’s not fresh) We were greeted by a spider crawling over the plate before we even got our soup. Then bugs, flies, nonstop phone ringing and in attentiveness interrupted occasionally with attitude from the staff. No offer for drinks so I had to beg for a sake. If you don’t speak and read Japanese fluently, just turn around because you won’t be welcomed. If you are inspired to eat from a social media post, it’s all fluff. The restaurant actually doesn’t like that because it brings in foreigners and additionally guests who may find the portion sizes too big to finish all the bland wasabi-aroma rice. They will ridicule you if you don’t finish everything yet there is no menu nor will they explain what are the options. So, you’re left to choose from basically small, medium or large. If you’re hungry and can speak Japanese fluently, どうぞ. If you’re not, save your yen and find another option

surprisingly big portion with high quality authentic sushi shop, runned by two local Edo guys. You will fully enjoy wonderful sushi with cheap price if you do not care about perfect sanitary condition hahaha

The food was delicious and huge! We ordered 2 premium nigiri sets I almost couldn't finish. It's better to make a reservation but the owner was kind enough to let us walk in. No photography of the food allowed though, please be respectful of the owners wishes!

Old school homely sushi bar in the neighbourhood. Owner only speaks Japanese and must call to place order first! No photos were allowed too. Sushi was really big but not the freshest. It was a fun experience but wouldn’t go again.

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU DONT SPEAK JAPANESE. I took an hour long train ride to get here to try the sushi, and as soon as I walked in (restaurant was open with barely any people), I was immediately greeted with them saying I’m not welcome here “American”. I’m from Canada and have a Canadian flag on my Fanny pack. Disgusting behaviour and I hope the business fails. レストランの恥部

The food is probably amazing, but you need to make a reservation with a Japanese number and know quite a bit if Japanese to get serviced. Wish I had known that before taking the train all the way here. The hours are misleading. Idk if the owner doesn't like foreigners exactly but he probably won't go out of his way to accommodate. Again all assumptions on my end based off of the super limited experience. If you'd like to come here I recommend coming here with you Japanese friends.

This sushi restaurant has gain popularity these days due to SNS but I do not recommend foreign visitors to eat here. It's because the owner is really perverse and unkind to clients. You can't expect any hospitality and gentle service from him. It would ruin your trip to Japan so if you want to eat sushi, find other restaurants like Sushiro, Kurazushi, and Sushizanmai. If anything, please be careful for being tricked by SNS delusion!!
