The Walaker Hotel was a beautiful oasis away from the crowds on the other side of the fjord. We stayed for 2 nights in a Historic Double Room in the main building. The room and bathroom were small, but nicely furnished and very comfortable with nice amenities. It was unseasonably warm during our stay, no air conditioning and a small window so our room got pretty warm, even with the fan provided. Breakfast was incredible with a great selection of cold items (FANTASTIC pastries!) and hot items made to order. Dinner was excellent and definitely gourmet. The gardens were beautiful and it was so nice to sit there in the afternoon with a refreshing drink. Staying at the Walaker was one of the best parts of our Norwegian experience.

We had an amazing stay at Walaker Hotell in May 2024. The bed was comfy, the shower was great, and the views of the fjord were just stunning. Breakfast and dinner were delicious, made with fresh, local stuff. It was so relaxing, and we even got to meet the owner and learn about the hotel’s history. Walaker Hotell, dating back to 1640, is the oldest family-run hotel in Norway, owned by the Nitter family since 1690. It's in the charming village of Solvorn by the Lusterfjord. They have an art gallery too, showing off Norwegian artists' work every summer. If you want a mix of history, comfort, and natural beauty, Walaker Hotell is the place to be!

This is an absolute jewel box of a hotel— it is almost 400 years old under the operation of the same family, and every detail is lovely, from the decorations in the welcoming sitting room, to the sunny dining rooms and the beautiful gardens facing the third. The restaurant is also very good. The rooms in the annex where we stayed are a generous size and very comfortable.

Beautiful, elegant historic hotel in tiny Solvorn. We splurged on the Walaker (after considering staying in nearby Hafslo) in order to have a very quiet night’s sleep, fjord views and a culinary experience at their restaurant. It delivered on all counts! We stayed in a superior room in the new building (flat-roofed addition with mid-century modern exterior look) that had a patio and chairs overlooking a fountain and garden with a view of the fjord. Spacious and clean room and bathroom with shower that had walls, wonderfully comfortable bed, patio door that opened for fresh air and curtains to allow airflow. Also room darkening curtains to keep out daylight at nighttime. Lovely grounds and tables and chairs to sit and enjoy a drink or conversation, very pleasant and helpful staff. The 4 or 5 course fixed menu was outstanding - every dish. It cost more than our other meals on this trip but in line with similar dining in the US.

Pro: Great place. Both the area - a beautiful weather-secluded part of the Sognefjord with great views and activities. ..and the hotel area - great park - nice to hang around at the historical buildings and patio. Also has a gallery. Very friendly staff. Good (if somewhat expensive) food. Con: our room (in the old building beside the hotel was very impractical. Cramped. Very dark (a handful very weak lamps, almost by design). Impractical bathroom. Views from outside-inn. Almost impossible to find stuff in the luggage (had to get a headlamp ). Extremely expensive. Maybe worth the value for a one night experience and an introduction to the area, but way to expensive to consider going again. Will vist the area, but get other accomodation.

The two nights we spent here were exceptional. The location is perfect for enjoying this gorgeous part of the country. I highly recommend the four course dinner with wine pairings. Such an incredible selection!|I was traveling with my adult daughter, who happens to be Vegan. I had made this known to the staff when booking our stay and we were blown away by the phenomenal dinner that was created just for her. The chef and staff went out of their way to design a Michelin-worthy, vegan experience for her. I look forward to returning!
