From the moment we saw a picture of Walden Retreats, we were in love with the place. Our first visit with Tim (who is no longer there, sadly) was incredible, and the entire process from booking to the big day was seamless. Tim made everything so easy, answering all of our questions with patience. After his departure, we had the pleasure of working with Amber, who was equally amazing. She kept everything on track and communicated with us every step of the way. The entire team, including the owners, was incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home from the very beginning. On our wedding day, the weather was perfect—chilly but sunny—and the views were absolutely stunning. It was the perfect backdrop for photos, and our guests couldn’t stop raving about the venue. We also had guests stay in the yurts, and they were beyond happy with their accommodations. The fact that Walden Retreats is dog-friendly was an added bonus—our dogs didn’t want to leave after such a wonderful weekend! We can’t wait to come back and celebrate our anniversary here. Highly recommend Walden Retreats for anyone looking for a beautiful, serene venue with exceptional service.

Beautiful and so relaxing. The bed was really comfortable and the temperature inside the cabin was very flexible and easy to set. The view from the outside deck was stunning. The trail albeit short and steep, was a nice a relaxing one with quiet areas around you. The river was also nice to look at. Wish I could have gotten in but timing did not allow. The firepit and lodge were also very nice to use. Definitely coming back! Thank you for the great service :)

THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING !!!!!!! Although our stay was just average, there were many, many negatives. At a rate of OVER $450.00 per night FOR ONE TENT, one would expect fresh towels each day. NOT. One might expect firewood to be included each day for the fire pit and wood stove. NOT. The shower is outside and not practical in the fall and winter months with low temperatures and cold blowing wind. The toilet is inside the tent but NO EXHAUST FAN which means a VERY STINKY SMELLY tent. There is no WI-FI in the tent which means a long hike to the lobby just to check emails. Lastly, they charge a RESORT FEE of $75.00 but wait……there are no “RESORT” amenities. Just a junk fee to raise the rate. Think twice before falling for all of Walden Retreats glamorous hype.

Could not have been more ideal for my brother’s wedding this past weekend! We stayed on the property the entire weekend and it was just incredible. The rooms were so comfortable and they really thought of every accommodation for people traveling. So many thoughtful touches. The event staff was just amazing, so professional and courteous, you could tell they were enjoying the experience almost as much as we were! Everything they prepared was done so well. Wished we didn’t live so far away so we could come more often!

If you're looking for a peaceful, immersive escape into nature without sacrificing comfort, this yurt is the perfect spot. Nestled in stunning surroundings, the views are nothing short of breathtaking—rolling hills, clear skies, and wildlife all around. It feels like you’re at the edge of the world, yet everything you need is right there. The yurt itself is a gem: impeccably clean and thoughtfully outfitted with everything you could want. From the cozy interior to the well-stocked kitchen, it’s clear that the hosts put a lot of care into making sure guests have a stress-free stay. Whether you’re lounging inside with a good book or grilling dinner on the deck, it’s easy to unwind and enjoy the tranquility. We spent our days canoeing, hiking, and jogging around the property, all of which were right at our doorstep. The sense of being truly “away from it all” is palpable, but with Fredericksburg only a short drive away, you can easily dive into some local culture and cuisine when the mood strikes. We also found Johnson City to be a charming, less touristy option that was a pleasant surprise. One of the highlights was watching the cows roam freely near the property, along with other wildlife sightings. It’s not something you get to experience every day, and it really added to the serene, back-to-nature feel of the trip. If you're someone who appreciates a slower pace of life and the beauty of rural Texas, this yurt is exactly where you need to be.

If you are looking for something fun and different to do and want a peaceful, quiet place to get away, look no further. This is where you need to be!

I brought my company to Walden Retreats for two days for our holiday party and retreat. We wanted to send the biggest thank you as my team was blown away by every single element of Walden during our stay for the Silhouette Group holiday party and retreat. The setting was absolutely spectacular and the GM Amber and her team were amazing every step of the way. It was so special to share a place that holds such a special place in my heart with my team. Thank you from the bottom of each and every one of our hearts. It was a weekend filled with so much magic - the kind that only Walden can provide!! And please send our deepest thanks to everyone that was on site. I know they all work so hard to keep it going on a daily basis. My husband and I will be back soon and we cannot wait!!

We loved it here and are planning to come back in a few weeks. It was nice and peaceful and being in Johnson City and near Fredericksburg is a plus. We didn't see any spider webs anywhere which is very hard to do in a outside setting anywhere in Texas. The grounds were very clean. If you like camping and the outdoors, but want a luxury experience every once in a while this is the place for you. If you are not used to total darkness, animal sights and sounds, seeing animal scat, etc... you are better off staying in the city. Please don't bring giant spot lights or loud music and ruin the peace and quiet.

Yelp
Oh my goodness.. where to begin! We stayed here for a couple nights to celebrate my partner's birthday and could not have asked for a better getaway. Immediately upon arriving to the grounds we were met by the incredibly friendly staff and immediately escorted to our tent. Walden is the kind of place where the staff will give you as much space as you want, but will be there with a helping hand as soon as you ask. The grounds are gorgeous and well taken care of with beautiful views of the hill country. Of course, the star of the show is the tent! The tent was well appointed with anything and everything you could have wanted for a glamping experience. We spent our time at Walden just unwinding and relaxing. Rotating between the fire pit, the claw foot tub, the cozy reading nook, the deck overlooking the hill country, and of course the very comfortable bed. Given you are in the "wilderness" I was really impressed by how clean the tents were! Also, I was a little apprehensive about how well the A/C would work as we are pretty hot natured, but we were comfortable the entire stay! Overall I am so glad we chose to spend a couple of days at Walden and we are counting down the days to our return!

Yelp
We spent a few nights here in April 2024. We usually take 10 days and go to Europe in April but this year we had to stay close to home. I found this last minute and it was a nice time. Staff is very friendly. We were the only people on the resort one night but even the nights when there were other people it was peaceful. We got one of the tents with the outdoor tub. It was great sitting in it and looking at the stars. The clawfoot tub was luxury. My husband loved cooking with their cast iron. We walked down to the river. We brought all of our food with us and never left once we got there. It was exactly what we needed. No, it wasn't a fancy vacation, but it was calm, lowkey and relaxing. We would not hesitate coming back in the spring or winter. I am not sure I would want to be there in the heat of Texas summer even with the mini splits. Thank you, Walden owners and staff, for a respite from our daily lives.

Yelp
I took my wife here for a surprise trip over her winter break from being a school nurse. The tents were great, clean, comfortable, and inviting. Amber, the GM, was attentive to my texts, and I love that one can go into the "store" and get things and let the staff know about it later, if it is late at night, which we did, getting firewood and stuff for s'mores. It was a great trip and plan on going again in the future. It was cool being able to take a steaming hot shower in the brisk Texas Hill Country weather under the stars (covered in all four sides of course) while my wife enjoyed the clawfoot tub inside the tent. Yes you read that right, a clawfoot tub in the tent. We made breakfast on the grill and had a great time. Next time, we will bring some stakes to cook on the fire. The heater kept the room warm without any issues.

Yelp
Walden is a stunning place with true attention to detail. The safari tents are as nice as a luxury hotel with the benefit of waking up to the sounds of nature and relaxing on the front porch with beautiful views. The Walden Team truly knows how to execute a tranquil and eye catching space - from the quality of the tents to the gorgeous textiles. If you want a place to unplug, connect with the outdoors, and truly relax, this is the place for you.

Yelp
Walden exceeded ALL of our expectations. Glamping at it's finest!! Beautiful TX Hill Country, luxury safari tent accommodations with every detail thought thru, including waking up to the amazing view overlooking the Pedernales River. Not to mention you are a few miles from some of the best Texas Wineries which made for a fun afternoon outing. We had the best time and cant wait to go back. Well done, Walden Team!
