We have just returned from a family holiday here and we were blown away by the experience. The Hupfer family run a magnificent chalet in a small village about fifteen minutes drive from Todtnau. There is a small ski slope in the village but we were there in the summer and the approach is stunning. The climb out of Todtnau and through the woods until you reach the meadows is just gorgeous.||||First impressions of the hotel are the peace and quiet and beauty of the countryside. We were welcomed at reception with beaming smiles and handshakes and shown to our rooms. The one we were in on the first floor had a balcony - very homely, quite large with a minibar, en suite shower and TV. Sitting on the balcony watching the world go by was really relaxing. The top floor had a more modern fitted room which din't have a balcony but was really well finished. There is construction of a new hotel just over the road but even the cranes are quiet here. ||||We went for half board which is amazingly good value and the food was terrific. No choice of soup and salad - but both were lovely, then a choice of two or three main courses which are locally sourced and delicious - we had choices including trout, schnitzel, pork etc with pasta, potatoes and sauerkraut. Then finished off with a small dessert. The dining room and service is warm and friendly. One evening there was a fantastic Black Forest Gateau on offer as an extra||||Breakfast was a buffet with occasionally boiled eggs but always good pastry and preserves, juice, muesli and tea or coffee.||||We swapped room for the last night and went into a fabulous room at the top of the hotel with a little seating area and great views.||||We wanted a quiet, very German, Black Forest experience and we really got it. The location in summer is perfect for relaxing, walking and mooching round local towns. I should mention that I embarrassingly don't speak any German and mainly the staff only speak German. Thankfully my daughter has a good vocabulary and helped us out. Be prepared and make good use of Google translate.
