This was THE BEST German food we've had since getting back from our trip there last summer! My sister took us when we were visiting them in Fort Mill, and promised we'd love it, and we were not disappointed!
First off, get reservations, or arrive early! We arrived and were told it would be an hour+ wait (arrived around 5:15p on a Saturday), so glad we waited! We were seated within about 30mins and the service was fantastic--sorry I didn't catch the waitress' name. Since we'd been waiting we decided to order both appetizers and entrees when we gave her our drink orders, and she did a great job working with the kitchen to pace our apps and entrees, so we weren't rushed. Wine selection was great, and the food--OH MY GOSH!! I'm salivating just thinking of it!
For an appetizer my husband and I split the Kartoffelpuffer, which is two potato pancakes w a side of apple sauce ($10.95). You can also request sour cream for additional $1. Then for our entree--since we wanted to try a little of everything--we went with the Waldhorn Sampler ($19.95) which includes pork Wienerschnitzel (breaded and fried pork), one Bratwurst, and Tafelspitz (beef brisket), served with spätzle (German egg noodle, boiled, sometimes fried), red cabbage, brown sauce and horseradish cream sauce. Honestly, I could have licked the plate; everything was ridiculously good! My husband who isn't a foodie, and eats without noticing flavors, etc., commented that the bratwurst was the best he's ever had (huge compliment considering he's from Chicagoland, not far from WI!)
Wrapped up the meal w a slice of cheesecake, since I wasn't feeling the apple strudel or Black Forest cake, and it was perfect.
We appreciated that at the end of the meal the manager (owner? missed his introduction) came around to make sure we were happy with our meals, and thanked us for coming to their restaurant--what GREAT SERVICE!
I told my sister that we definitely want to go back next time we're in for a visit.
Thanks for a fantastic dinner, Waldhorn!
