"This family-owned German restaurant has been around since 1999. As expected, the menu is hearty and exhaustive, with strudels, potato and veggie hashes, krauts, and a vast array of sausages. Nothing says warm and cozy better than the willkommen sign at the front door and the simple wooden indoor bar that gives off a bit of apres-ski vibes. The place itself, the hefty plating presentation and the tepid wine list do feel somewhat antiquated, but there’s no denying that a potato pancake slathered in applesauce and a stein of German beer is the most Alpine-hygge one can get in Charlotte. At the end of the night, try eating (and pronouncing) the schwarzwälderkirschtorte — a rich chocolate cake with a cherry filling." - Kayleigh Ruller

We made it a recent tradition to eat here for our anniversary whenever we are nearby. We drove an hour to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary Friday and had such a lovely evening. Our waiter, who was a young college student, was great and he brought us a candle, per our request, for us to celebrate our day. <3 ^.^ Thank you! As for the food. AMAZING. You can’t come here and NOT get the sausage platter along with their pretzel rolls. Since we had the sausage appetizer, I tried their vegetarian plate while my husband got another sausage plate haha. Both were delicious! The Black Forest cake is our favorite cake ever and their grapefruit beer is wonderful. I do not like beer and even I thought it was very nice and refreshing. (If you like very very sweet desserts, you will not like the black Forrest cake. We specifically LOVE it because it’s light, fluffy and just delicious without the extra sugar that most places have. They have other desserts that may be more appealing if it’s not your style^.^)I’m going to try to bake one myself, but I know it’ll never compare to this restaurant 🤣 wish me luck! I was introduced to this place during a trip with my HS class. Who would’ve thought I’d come here with my future husband too?! ☺️ LOVE IT

This was my family‘s third visit to this establishment and we have been pleased every time we have been here. We live in Florida, but have relatives that live up near this restaurant and I make it a point to go there every time. The restaurant is kept immaculately clean. The food is superb and the weight staff was top-notch. We set a reservation for 745 P.m. and this is one of the few restaurants that I have gone to that get you into your seats on or before your reservation time as we arrived a little bit early. My family and I ordered the giant pretzel, the sausage sampler potato pancakes, the stuffed schnitzel, the salmon, the Caesar salad, the gürmese pasta and the waldhorn sampler. The appetizers came out fast and were all delicious and fresh made. The main courses were exactly how I remembered them each time. I came back, very consistent on the flavors and cooking and reminded me of when I was in Germany. I guess if I had to nitpick there was 2 things 1 is I remember getting a basket of rolls/bread which was not offered this time (idea) if this option was removed due to expense add it as a $5 paid for basket as my family loves bread and 2nd is I wish that the waitstaff was dressed in more of an older style authentic German uniform versus just wearing whatever but i’m sure those types of clothing are getting harder to find.

Google
I absolutely love all of their entrees, but if you’re wishing for salmon this is my favorite spot so far in the Charlotte area.. seasoning is perfect and the Riesling sauce is mouth watering! Service has always been exceptional. If you haven’t already, definitely stop by, you will not be disappointed. Adding a photo, keep in mind when viewing that I prefer my salmon on the well done side.

Google
Waldhorn Restaurant ist wunderbar! For delious and authentic German food, go to this beautiful spot in Charlotte, NC. Owner/chefs Gitta and Thomas Maier oversee every detail of this delightful dining experience. You'll think you're in Deutschland when you taste the homemade schnitzel, spaetzle and apple strudel! If you try it, you'll love it. Sehr gut!

Google
Really had a great meal here. Always looking for a good German restaurant.

Google
Waldhorn is a fantastic option for true German cuisine. The pretzel rolls are always so fresh and the goat cheese, spinach and phyllo dough appetizer is my favorite. I can recommend the Weiner Schnitzel or the Schweizer Schnitzel, You honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Their homemade spatzlel and red cabbage side offerings are delicious!

Google
Das ist fantastisch Food, atmosphere, native German music, friendly staff. Best in area!

Google
we've driven past this place many times and decided to try it and boy was it a hidden gem. The food was great the atmosphere was pleasant in the service was outstanding. I never thought red cabbage would taste good, but they make it damn tasty

Yelp
Waldhorn has single handedly become a staple in our household. My husband and I are huge fans of this restaurant. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, while also being attentive and respectful to the patrons. We especially enjoy the entree specials that are in rotation (Beef Stroganoff is my favorite) and look forward to their posts on their instagram on the weekends. If you do get a chance to go, definitely try the Spaten Oktoberfest and potato pancakes or a giant pretzel

Yelp
Love the Waldron for a relaxing German meal with the family. We had not been here for about 4 years. No wait on a Friday evening at prime dinner time just off the beaten path in Pineville. Started with potato cakes with apple sauce as an appetizer. My youngest daughter got cheese spatzle, my oldest got penne pasta with chicken, my wife got pork schnitzel and I got Schweitzer schnitzel which was pork schnitzel stuffed with ham and Swiss with green bean and spatzel. Everyone enjoyed their meals and my daughters had left overs for lunch the next day.

Yelp
My Mother-In-Law chose Waldhorn for her 83 birthday meal. Our server Valeria did an OUTSTANDING job! She was very patient with our party of eight that arrived at three different times, and four of whom are hard of hearing. All the food was excellent! My Mother-In-Law can be a bit persnickety, but even she enjoyed her meal. Also, it's a great touch when the owners come around and check on you throughout your visit. Keep up the great work Waldhorn!

Yelp
We have been told that this is the best German restaurant in the Eastern United States. After eating there, it may be true. Three of us are there yesterday and it was impressive. The server was exemplary, as was the food. This is not the fanciest restaurant in the Charlotte area, but it is very good. The appetizer, our entrees of their sampler, beef stroganoff and a rib eye steak were excellent. We chose three different desserts and each was thoroughly enjoyed. It will take several visits to fully explore the menu.

Yelp
We went on a Thursday night and it was not very busy at all but I assume they were pretty understaffed in the kitchen because we waited an hour for our food with no explanation. She did bring out bread a few minutes before our food came out. The food was good but I feel like after that wait it was not extraordinary like I was expecting. The ambiance is welcoming and comfortable.

Yelp
Waldhorn is an authentic German restaurant that I highly recommend!! Food. Service. Atmosphere. All top notch!!!

Dennis R.

Yelp
We've been to Waldhorn 3X with our grandchildren- 2 & 4yr old toddlers and the staff have always been fabulous. They are superb at getting the kids meals out fast and it's a good selection for them. The atmosphere is always friendly and is a feel good spot. The German food is excellent and assortment of beer is outstanding. I highly recommend it!! W ppl like me lol MM

Kevin M.

Yelp
Always a good meal and German experience at the Waldhorn. Have to add characters to make this review acceptable.

Jenna L.

Yelp
I wish I had tried this place sooner. We will definitely be back. Recommend a reservation, although there didn't seem to be a wait Friday at 7pm and if so wasn't long. We ordered 2 apps, 2 meals and dessert. Tons of leftovers. The potato pancakes are a yes! The Jagerschnitzel was my favorite. Huge steins of beer that were refreshing. The Black Forest cake very light fruity and creamy. Service was amazing. Reminded me of my childhood visits to Frankenmuth. Join the beer club, worth it for a free beer, mug, and future discounts, plus support small businesses! Thank you for a great experience.

Yelp
This was THE BEST German food we've had since getting back from our trip there last summer! My sister took us when we were visiting them in Fort Mill, and promised we'd love it, and we were not disappointed! First off, get reservations, or arrive early! We arrived and were told it would be an hour+ wait (arrived around 5:15p on a Saturday), so glad we waited! We were seated within about 30mins and the service was fantastic--sorry I didn't catch the waitress' name. Since we'd been waiting we decided to order both appetizers and entrees when we gave her our drink orders, and she did a great job working with the kitchen to pace our apps and entrees, so we weren't rushed. Wine selection was great, and the food--OH MY GOSH!! I'm salivating just thinking of it! For an appetizer my husband and I split the Kartoffelpuffer, which is two potato pancakes w a side of apple sauce ($10.95). You can also request sour cream for additional $1. Then for our entree--since we wanted to try a little of everything--we went with the Waldhorn Sampler ($19.95) which includes pork Wienerschnitzel (breaded and fried pork), one Bratwurst, and Tafelspitz (beef brisket), served with spätzle (German egg noodle, boiled, sometimes fried), red cabbage, brown sauce and horseradish cream sauce. Honestly, I could have licked the plate; everything was ridiculously good! My husband who isn't a foodie, and eats without noticing flavors, etc., commented that the bratwurst was the best he's ever had (huge compliment considering he's from Chicagoland, not far from WI!) Wrapped up the meal w a slice of cheesecake, since I wasn't feeling the apple strudel or Black Forest cake, and it was perfect. We appreciated that at the end of the meal the manager (owner? missed his introduction) came around to make sure we were happy with our meals, and thanked us for coming to their restaurant--what GREAT SERVICE! I told my sister that we definitely want to go back next time we're in for a visit. Thanks for a fantastic dinner, Waldhorn!

Yelp
It was a great place to eat. Food & staff were great. My meal was amazing (Sour-gratin)! It was so tender and delicious

Sharon I.

Yelp
Service and food are excellent. Impressed with the warm welcome and delicious food. Would recommend this restaurant for special occasions and for a family outing.

Michael P.

Yelp
Traditional German food, and beer. Very good. On par with German restaurants I've been to in New York.

Mitch K.

Yelp
Learned that you CAN make reservations! Learned that as we sat on a busy Saturday night waiting for a table. It took quite a bit of time and we dreaded the arrival of the table of 6 reservations coming in. Great menu, schnitzels, all three varieties are excellent. You can opt for what comes with the meat, so if you, like me, do not go for red cabbage, ask for something else. Excellent beer selection and they have specials outside of their regular roster of brews. Service is excellent and prices reasonable.

Siran T.

Yelp
Great German food. The server was nice and helped with a lot recommendations. The portion of food was descent and generously flavored. Four of us ordered two appetizers, two entrees, and one dessert. Enough to share. The only disappointment was the dinner roll which was not as fluffy as I thought it would be. However others were tasty! The fried pork and dessert (ice cream with cream) were highly recommended. It was located in a beautiful courtyard which was nice for photos :-)

Kelly K.

Yelp
Exactly the old school German experience you expect. Service was great and traditional German favorites were amazing. Highly recommend

Roberto Y.

Yelp
Came with the kids and had a great dinner. We have been coming to this restaurant for the last 5 years. The service was excellent and no issues. The owner/manager came out to check on us and to find out if liked the food. The salad was very tasty and fresh. Great beer selection. The food was delicious. We had the sausage dish and sausage sandwich. The desserts We're good. Very satisfied with my visit.

S C.

Yelp
Food was delicious! From the schnitzel and german noodles to the after dinner digestive. I'll definitely return here

Jon L.

Yelp
At last I made it here. They were closed for a long stretch during COVID. Then when they reopened it was to drastically reduced hours. Now, they are back! I went on Saturday for lunch when they opened at 1130am. They were already running a wait. I have been looking for traditional Hungarian Goulash and they have it. I last had it in 2017 at a restaurant in Prague. As you might guess, it's hard to find, especially here in the South. You can get a cup or bowl so I got a bowl. I ate one there and then got one 'to go'. A bowl is about 16 ounces. Just enough to leave you wanting more! This is the place for traditional German food and they have all the beers. Even Hofbrahaus on tap! Plenty of free parking!

Alan D.

Yelp
We went on a whim and had to wait a bit, the place is very popular. The sampler was pretty good, and the german food was on point. I really enjoyed the selection of bottled beers. The atmosphere seemed a bit lacking compared to the outside and how busy it was. I expected something a little different

Crystal M.

Yelp
This is such a cute German restaurant. Went here on a Saturday night right at 4:30 which I'm really glad we got there early because they don't start serving food until 5:00 and the place was packed around 5:00. They have good beers in cute glasses. My boyfriend end up getting a beer club drink with the Stein. Got the Jägerschnitzel which was super good You can tell that everything is fresh and made in house. For dessert, I got the Heisse Liebe which was also amazing. The raspberry sauce was amazing with the ice cream.

Audra A.

Yelp
Good German food, great beer selection, gracious service, and generous portions. You know you're in the right place for German food when they ask if you'd like you beer in a liter or half-liter size. Wow. Dining area was very spacious and most of the booths are large enough for 6-8 people. There were several large parties in house while we were there. They also had high chairs and kids menu items, and lots of families having dinner. Upstairs seating area was also being used by the time we left, and the view of the dining room below from up there is pretty cool. Schnitzel was good, and had good flavor. Sampler was a great way to try several things - but the red cabbage and the horseradish cream sauce were honestly my favorite things. Spatzle was interesting, delicious and a new one for me. Service was excellent, even as the dining room filled up for dinner service.

Jimmy S.

Yelp
Decent. Not the best German food, but pretty darn good. And better than OMB for sure, especially since they have actual German beers on tap (i.e. Paulaner, Franziskaner, Hoffbrau, etc.) and I think one of the only places in CLT area w somewhat authentic German/European food and drink. It's worth the trip just for that. (Although, please advise if you recommend others) Prost, dudes.

Kirk S.

Yelp
Great food, great service, fun night with friends. Haven't been here in a while and it's my fault. We will be back soon for the delicious authentic German cuisine. Plenty to take home for leftovers.

Demond D.

Yelp
Choose them for my wife's birthday cake and wasn't disappointed, she loved it.(Black Forest Cake) Staff made it easy to order, and was friendly when I arrived to pick it up.

Brittany D.

Yelp
It had been some time since I've been to Waldhorn and it didn't disappoint. We brought someone who was adamant that they didn't enjoy "German-style food". Well after this visit, she thanked me for pushing her to try it! There wasn't any dish we got that she didn't enjoy! This place doesn't overcomplicate traditional delicious German food! If you want authenticity, go here!

Denise B.

Yelp
Big Birthday Party we had and they took care of our Large crowd of 16! Haven't been in a couple years. They should be able to change up the tables and chairs by the looks of how crowded it was ! They do a great business! Food is Plain Good Old Country German Food. The Schnitzel is just outstanding. Potato Pancakes almost prevented me from eating my whole dinner. They are terrific ! We had a new waitress who wasn't sure of a lot of things, very nice and tried to find out every answer , I just felt bad with her having such a big party. Beers are huge ! Certainly go and try if you want authentic Old Country German !

Roberto B.

Yelp
The food and service were outstanding The Beef, Spatzle, & Red cabbage were awesome We had a large group and were there on business. They treated us like family

Mary P.

Yelp
We have been to this wonderful authentic German restaurant before as we pass through Charlotte. The last time we were here the accordionist actually had the teenagers in our group singing along! This time we didn't have any live entertainment, but the food was as delicious as we expected and the waitstaff was great! We shall return!!!

Walter H.

Yelp
I have been meaning to try this place for the longest time. I recently tried it and was very pleased with the outcome. If you have a interest in trying new foods then I recommend you trying this place out. My dad told me about it since he was originally from Germany and the food tastes just it back home as he told me.

Kevin C.

Yelp
Charming ambiance. Excellent staff and management. Stunning food. The German Chocolate Cake martini was perfectly strong and like drinking a mounds bar. We began with the Wurst appetizer. I had the Sauerbraten and absolutely fell in love with this amazing dish. The Two Princes Riesling was a fantastic wine (not too sweet). You have to come here and see what all the fuss is about!

Katharine B.

Yelp
A great authentic German restaurant near Charlotte! We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and they serve lunch until 13:30 and then restart dinner at 17:00. The building looks German and they have wooden tables , beer decor and pictures on the wall from various German cities. I grew up in Germany so it really reminded me of my childhood. We had the Jäger Schnitzel and Wiener schnitzel. Both are served with Spätzle (noodles) and red cabbage. They have a good beer list and great service. Thank you for the taste from the Heimat!

Jack C.

Yelp
Ok, so pretty legit brats... I wish it had a little bit more bite and I wish it was grilled a bit more but overall I didn't leave starving. The potatoes and onions and kraut were also on par and worth the visit. I just wish I nabbed a potato pancake while I was there. The server was great and next time I'm I. Town I hope to stop by and try another dish out!

Kaitlyn B.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic German food, this is it! Waldhorn has excellent service and a welcoming environment. Our waitress constantly stopped at the table to bring refills and check on our status. The owner even stopped by the table to check in after we received our food. The personal touch is exceptional! The best meal we've had here would be the jaeger schnitzel with spatzel and red cabbage. Don't turn down the pretzel roll! Add the butter and indulge in every single carb; it's worth it! If you love beer, be sure to try the Dunkel on tap. It pairs perfectly with every German meal.

Cassandra S.

Yelp
Our server was extremely helpful and attentive. The restaurant has a Bavarian appeal from the moment you drive up until you're seated, with exposed beams and German decor right down to the music that is playing. The menu is authentic with German options throughout, including schnitzel and German chocolate cake. Such a refreshing option for authentic German food in the greater Charlotte area. Don't sleep on this option! We spent $80 on 1 soup, 2 entrees, 1 kids meal, and dessert.

Jeff B.

Yelp
Fantastic!! We had such a great meal here today with Friends! We got a variety of food and it was all great! Service was excellent and cool authentic vibe! Must try!

Dominik L.

Yelp
Outstanding restaurant highly recommended!!! Great selection of beers and delicious Wienerschnitzel!!!

Colin S.

Yelp
Wow, bloody wow... My wife and I had business in Rock Hill, SC and found a German restaurant to celebrate our most recent expansion. Wow, does this place deliver. We tried the Goulash Suppe and the Kartoffelnpuffer (potato pancakes with apple sauce) as appetizers. Main Course we had the Wurst Plate (sausage sampler with sauerkraut and German style potatoes) and their half duck with Klöße (dumplings) and Rotkohl (red Kabbage). Incredible. What a treat. Really reminded me of home. The customer service is outstanding too. Wesley the manager and our server Brittany really made us feel at home. For dessert we had 2, I mean 4 Schladerer Himbeer Geist Schnapps shots as digestives Highly recommend this place if you are traveling between Rock Hill, SC and Charlotte, NC. It's an experience.

Heyward McKinney

Yelp
We happened upon this place while on a trip to Charlotte. So glad we did. Food was delicious and service was extremely friendly but not overbearing. The atmosphere was casual and laidback. All in all it was a great experience.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Love this place! The atmosphere is very authentic and comfortable and the service is always excellent. Ordered the special of brisket with noodles and cabbage, the Reuben without bread and the brats platter. All were a big portion for lunch and all were very tasty! Beer selection is very good, I can always find something great. Prices are great for what you get!

Sydney Y.

Yelp
Service was great, all 3 meals we ordered were amazing. Goat cheese appetizer was beautiful and yummy! I got the sampler and subbed the noodles for mashed potatoes and everything was seriously delicious. German cake I would pass on, but the bee sting dessert was good and different. Will be back soon, it's been too long!

Mike P.

Yelp
Waldhorn is a terrific German restaurant. In addition to all the German mainstays (spatzle, schnitzel, and sausages galore), they have a varied and delicious menu. I had the sausage platter, complimentary pretzel rolls, and soup to start. Everything was great. For dinner, I had the schnitzel stuffed with ham and cheese...others got bratwurst, regular schnitzel, and an Alfredo pasta. Not a bad dish in the house. For desert, try literally anything...all great. Loved the beer and wine selections as well, including a killer $30 bottle of Dornfelder. You can't miss here!

Manny C.

Yelp
We live down the road from here and finally had the perfect moment to try it. We came on St Patrick's day hoping they would have some Irish specials and we were not disappointed!! To start they delivered pretzel bread. So soft and warm it reminded me of why I choose carbs over violence. Next we tried the soup of the day which happened to be split pea soup. I should have ordered two because I didn't let my wife have any. For entrees we had special for St Patricks Day-roast beef and cabbage and potato pancakes. It was quite and amazing dish. This establishment caught us by surprise! It's privately owned. The staff is super nice and the food taste amazing. I Highly recommend this place!

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Ended up in Pineville for lunch and it did not disappoint! The refreshing grapefruit beer hit the spot on a Saturday afternoon. The potato cakes were a hit wth Elizabeth especially when dunked in the apple sauce. Perfectly fried and crispy. The wurst platter was devine! The sauerkraut was such a perfect pairing with the different wrusts. The pork schnitzel was thin but not dry. The red cabbage was cooked tender and had a sweetness to it. The spetzel was cheesy but not overly saucy. We look forward to Oktoberfest! Definitely worth the drive for some authentic German food!

Alexander M.

Yelp
Genuinely authentic German food for being in USA - salads, main dishes and desserts! The facility is well decorated, clean and there is ample parking. Facility appears to have adequate overflow seating accommodations with an upstairs. Hostess and wait staff were very friendly and some spoke with a European / English accent (presumably German). Some dressed in their Sunday church attire while others (like us) wore shorts/tshirt and soccer garb. Looking forward to another trip.

Christina B.

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic German food, this is it! The place is huge so they can accommodate a party or big group! The menu has all your German favorites so if there is something you are craving, they'll have it. It is very family friendly! We went during a dinner rush on a Saturday and there was a little bit of a wait so be prepared. I ordered the Rahmragout vom Schwein which is sautéed pork tips and mushrooms in a light cream sauce served over spratzle (German side of noodles) with a side of veggies.

Stef L.

Yelp
We just love the Waldhorn Restaurant. It's the most authentic German restaurant I have visited in the United States. It is family owned and you can taste it in the food. I worked there for years and never got tired of all the delicious food. There are so many favorites on the menu so it's always hard to pick when I visit the place. This time I went with the Wiener Schnitzel and French fries...can't get more authentic German than this. My husband always picks the Schweitzer Schnitzel which is a breaded pork cutlet filled with Black Forest ham and Swiss cheese. I always get the Waldhorn salad to start, it's a combination of orzo pasta, carrot, potato and cucumber salads. Don't forget to order dessert. The Apple strudel is served warm with a side of vanilla Ice cream. Please go visit this amazing place and support a small business owner! You won't regret it :)

Misty M.

Yelp
Delicious German food. Be sure to make a reservation if you are planning to have dinner on the weekend.

Brenda S.

Yelp
Always great food. Very consistent. Always fantastic beer and service. 1 of our top dining locations in Charlotte. Highly recommend it!
