Waldhotel Sonnora

The restaurant is obviously Germany’s best but the hotel is lovely as well. We came here when it was cold and grey outside, and the place felt like a cozy sanctuary against the rain and fog. Staff is very nice and helpful and the rooms very comfortable. Full marks all around.

We came here for a birthday celebration and had a magnificent evening. From start to finish, the food, service, and atmosphere was sublime. We ordered their signature course and wine pairing. Their overall menu has entrée items as well which can be swapped with similar items on their course menu which allowed us to try a variety of their dishes. The five Amuse Bouche dishes were great. Each one gave your taste buds a tease as what was to come for the evening. The flavors and meats used were each unique in their own way with well balanced. The foie gras was superb. The texture reminded us of silky peanut butter and the pastry was the perfect combination with the taste and texture of the foie gras. The sauces added another level to the flavors you could have which made for a wonderful starter in the course menu. Next was the Langoustine's which had a great texture. The zucchini and tomatoes really brought out the flavor of the Langoustine and it was another great dish. The next dishes were lobsters prepared differently. The first was a refreshing lobster dish that left my mouth feeling fresh. The flavors combined wonderfully and was a treat. The other dish my SO recieved was the stew lobster which had a great savory flavor all around. It was a total opposite effect between the two dishes during this stage of the course, and both were equally good. The Turbot with caviar was next and following the lobster, continues to impress. You could really taste the individual flavors with them combining into a wonderland of flavor in your mouth. The next course item has us diverge with my SO receiving the lamb and I with the Venison. Both meat dishes were very good and had the savoryness a meat dish should have. Both were incredibly tender and had no hint of gaminess. Each was great and offered a unique meat dish that would make just about anyone salivate. The refresher dessert was the Iced kiwi and coconut. A very light treat for your mouth that left you feeling refreshed before dessert. The last course item was the Braised apple and the Baba au Rhum. For those whiskey lovers, the Baba au Rhum was an amazing dessert that wasn't overly sweet nor overboard with the alcohol flavor. The braised apple was great and a tasty way to end the course. The end treats were great. The wine pairings were spot on with wines from around Europe (to include a couple that are minutes away from the restaurant) being used in the pairings. Each wine enhanced the flavors of the dish and wine and a great treat all around. Overall, we truly enjoyed our evening here and feel it was worth the cost.

A culinary journey through this restaurants time. Unprecedentedly good flavors that are difficult to put into words. Everything is highly flavored and of an unfailingly high standard. Many dishes and sauces gave an explosion of flavor in the mouth. We have eaten in many 2-star restaurants and some even with 3, but this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. The brigade does its job to perfection. The service was fantastic. But also very relaxed and always with a smile. As does the sommelier, who understands his profession very well and is pleasant to work with. And this actually applies to every employee. Hospitality at its best. But the winner was the kitchen that seems to come from another culinary planet. Fascinatingly good. Next morning the Eggs Benedict were astonishingly good.

We were staying at Sonnora some months ago and didn't write a review then. However in the meanwhile we visited another classic place, a temple of French gastronomy, and were comparing a lot with our experience at Sonnora. Sonnora was so much better. Absolutely charming personal service, three star dinner in the evening, top class, excellent wine service as well. Every single course was perfect, delicious , prepared with a keen eye for detail. Staff was genuinely friendly, not just playing the game. Dinner experience was wonderful, perhaps even a bit overwhelming (4h at the table), copious, but faultless as one would expect at this level (but not always gets unfortunately). Highly recommended! Nice rooms as well ... Sonnora creates a luxurious oasis at edge of forest in a somewhat unremarkable Eiffel village.

We had a wonderful stay and diner at Sonnora. Very kind staff, great winelist and tasteful dishes with deep flavours. A big plus also goes out to the sommelier. Highly recommended.

Whoever wants to dine at 3*** restaurant Sonnora is well advised to book a room at the hotel, so as to be able to enjoy the vast wine list. The hotel was fully renovated during the pandemic in 2020-21, and very successfully so. The rooms are spacious, tastefully equipped, and bathrooms are large. Breakfast is great (not quite as beautiful as at Da Vittorio) and service friendly and prompt.

Of course the restaurant is the number one reason for staying at this really rather charming hotel. The decor may be old fashioned, but everything has been maintained and refreshed to a high standard so that it still feels fresh. The welcome was warm and we were shown to our room. The room itself was immaculately clean and a small selection of complimentary drinks were offered in the minibar which is a nice touch. The breakfast that is provided in the morning is high quality and the omelette was made perfectly! ||||All in all a lovely place to stay and of course the dinner is never going to be anything less than exceptional.

Waldhotel Sonnora sits snugly at the edge of the forest in Dreis/Wittlich. The hotel garden has stunning views of the village below.. Our accommodation was gorgeous, airy and spacious and tastefully furnished. After a long walk in the forest, just listening to bird song, and completely unwinding, one can relax and prepare oneself, for a culinary delight, in the three star Michelin restaurant. The chairs in the restaurant are really comfortable, as is the atmosphere. The service was perfect, just right. We selected the menu so as to be able to try a variety of dishes. The cake of beef fillet-tartar topped with caviar, sitting on a crispy potato rosti, ( my mouth waters just thinking about it) or the grilled langoustines, or turbot with avocado and orange. The dressings that accompany the dishes are not overly rich ,so one doesn't feel overly full and uncomfortable. The sauces are so fresh and light, the desserts too. All in all, so very well thought out, and stunningly presented, works of art. The wine menu is extensive and for a three Star restaurant, not overly inflated in price. An amazing selection of artisan breads and a very extensive cheese board! All in all, 5 Stars, I could not find fault with anything! This is the best 3 star restaurant that I have dined in, now my most favourite. So looking forward to our second visit. .
