"Comprising a neoclassical building completed in 1910 and a modern 24-story tower, with a courtyard and promenade in between, this property has an enviable position right on the Bund. The heritage building formerly housed the exclusive Shanghai Club. European-style interiors include a grand lobby with dark-veined white marble and Palladian columns, sculpted rooftop cornices, and crystal chandeliers. Original fixtures include the city’s large triangular manual elevators. Peacock Alley, the promenade that connects the two buildings and looks onto the courtyard, houses restaurants and lounges. Rooms in the tower come with spellbinding Bund, Huangpu River, and Pudong views, while the 20 suites in the heritage building have painted timber panelling, hardwood floors, and polished mahogany furnishings."

The Bund Review - Forest Hills - New York - The Infatuation

"Queens natives and childhood friends David Kong and Jim Nguyen opened the first location of The Bund in Forest Hills in 2016 to give the neighborhood a destination for quality Shanghainese food. In 2019, they opened a second location in Astoria. And at both spots, you can choose from three options for Shanghainese wontons, or just do the smart thing and try them all. The Shanghai jumbo wontons are filled with pork and leeks, with a delicate and lightly-salted broth. The mini pork wontons have a paste-like filling and come with an herbal chicken broth. And the third option with chicken and zucchini instead of pork is less traditional, but perfect for anyone who’d like a slight crunch with each soupy bite. Food Rundown Peking Duck Bao While this is a Northern-style dish rather than a Shanghainese one, The Bund’s version still has the fluffy bao and juicy, thin-skinned duck that makes it so satisfying. There are two buns per order, and we recommend dousing the duck and scallions with the hoisin-based sauce. Pancake with Beef Brisket This is a giant rolled up pancake that’s as flaky as phyllo, stuffed with tender beef brisket. It’s meant to be shared, but the portion is big enough to be a full meal for one. Crab Pork Soup Dumplings Soup dumplings are almost a requisite order at any good Shanghainese restaurant. The dough is slightly thick on these ones, but they still hit the spot. We have a slight preference for the crab and pork version over the plain pork xiao long bao, but both are worth trying. Shanghainese Jumbo Wonton with Soup Skip the Sichuan wontons (not nearly spicy enough) and try these Shanghainese wontons instead. A house signature, these extra-large wontons are filled with pork and leeks, with a delicate and lightly-salted broth with egg strips and seaweed. Deep Fried Matcha Sesame Balls On the outside they look like traditional dim sum sesame balls, but on the inside these have an ample amount of matcha mixed into the bean paste. They’re deep-fried but not too oily and just sweet enough to balance out the matcha bitterness. Order these if you need an extra caffeine kick with your dessert." - Diana Kuan

Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund (Shanghai, China) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It seems they do still make 'em like they used to. The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is pure classic luxury, vintage 2011. It was a contender for the city’s best hotel from the moment it opened its doors, for there was a lot behind those doors: a soaring main hall awash in white marble, a staff that’s the epitome of discreet and attentive service, a set of restaurants that have quickly come to be regarded as top Shanghai dining destinations, and 260 elegant, oversize rooms that pull off the seemingly impossible feat of combining old-world opulence with a light, modern touch. And where better than the Bund, with its endless parade of historic architecture, for a hotel that’s something of a throwback to a past golden age of hospitality." - Tablet Hotels

Our three-night stay at the Junior Suite was great, the room is super comfy and nice. The airport pickup service was a great. It was not only prompt, but they also provided a car seat for our toddler. Car seat option is quite rare for airport pick ups in China, so I really appreciated this. Upon arrival, we were met with a warm welcome; hotel staff were lined up at the door, ready to assist as I was carrying our child – a truly sweet and helpful gesture. The in-room check-in was another convenient touch, making our arrival smooth and stress-free. Our room was already prepared when we arrived. The requested cot and bottle sterilizer were already in place, and they also provided baby soap and a baby bathtub for our little one. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, offering ample room for our toddler to play freely. The hotel breakfast buffet offered a good selection, and while not extensive, the quality was high. What truly elevated our dining experience was the attentive and helpful staff. We want to extend a special thank you to Sang, whose consistent attentiveness during our meals there was remarkable. Sang was always polite, friendly, eager to serve, and ensured our needs were always met. Great experience at Waldorf!

This is a legendary brand but the staff at the Waldorf Shanghai is clueless and the team lack basic communication Negatives - check in was supposed to be at 3pm but at 3pm, the new staff simply play it down and told us we need to wait another hour ++ or so because it wasn’t “ready” - the cafe / restaurant on site advertise as a place to chill and drink for hotel guest on their website and pamphlet but when I was there, the staff told us we MUST order their high tea , which contradicts what they’re promoting - the staff is like playing roulette and at times you will get friendly staff and at times you get attitude from them - the deposit was also another ridiculous issue. The cost of the hotel was about $3.5k USD ++. But then we staff insist that our “deposit” for the stay is around 15k RMB which is ridiculous for a 5-6 night stay in a normal room Much is left to be desired. Positives - the duty manager in-charge, Steven Diep was fantastic and special mentioned has to be given to him for handling the issue Takeaway - your stay will pretty much depend on the experience of the staff which is something not expected of a legendary 5-star brand

We enjoyed our stay as a family. Booked a room with 2 double beds, it is comfortable for a family of 2 adults and 2 children with great view of the bund. Hotel staff was friendly with good service, the front deck helped to retrieve items I left in the room. The concierge helped to check river cruise availability by calling up a few companies to ensure we will not make a wasted trip. Buffet breakfast has wide spread. Location is superb as the bund is just across one road. Walking distance to Nanjing Road as well. Many things to see along the way.

An unforgettable accommodation experience was had at this hotel during a memorable night. The room was very spacious and beautifully decorated, making me feel extremely comfortable. The bed was very soft and comfortable, allowing me to have a good sleep. The service here was also very excellent, with the concierge Jack Tom, a rookie, being warm-hearted and highly professional, making me feel very warm. Besides, the facilities of this hotel were also very complete, including high-speed Wi-Fi, gymnasium, etc., allowing me to fully enjoy myself during my stay. Moreover, the location here was also very ideal, with convenient transportation. Overall, it was an unforgettable accommodation experience, and I will highly recommend this hotel to my friends.

This hotel is absolutely massive and impressive from the moment you arrive. The scale of the building alone makes it stand out, but what truly makes the stay memorable is the breathtaking view it offers—whether you're overlooking the city skyline, ocean, or mountains, it's a view you won’t forget. The room was exceptionally comfortable, spacious, and spotless. The bed was cozy, the amenities were thoughtful, and everything felt very well-maintained. It’s clear that attention to detail is a priority here.

New wing have direct view on the bund while historical wing have limited view. Two different style and atmosphere. Great place for memorable photos. Staff at check in was very helpful despite my early arrival. Nice property overall

The staff were exceptionally attentive throughout my stay. I was particularly impressed by Tracy from the breakfast buffet restaurant. Her professionalism and keen attention to detail stood out. After I gave feedback on a poorly prepared dish on the first day, she not only remembered it but followed up the next morning to ask if it had improved. To my surprise, she even offered a personalized version tailored to my preferences. Her initiative and dedication truly elevated the experience to a 5-star level.

Is discrimination now a standard at Waldorf Astoria Shanghai? Can a hotel manager “educate” guests on what to wear? Does the front desk manager have the right to arbitrarily throw out paying customers? My friend visited Waldorf Astoria Shanghai and was discriminated against simply for wearing a Lolita-style dress—which was perfectly decent, non-revealing, and entirely appropriate. Initially, the staff raised concerns and there was a civil discussion. But then a male front desk manager arrived and things took a shocking turn. He verbally attacked my friend, who has video evidence of the incident. He said things like: • “Yes, I’m discriminating against you.” • “Do you really think you look good like that?” • “You, get out.” He even spoke in a condescending, authoritarian tone, demanding, “Who exactly is talking here?” Is this how Waldorf Astoria trains its employees? To let arrogant, disrespectful, and misogynistic men freely insult women based on their clothing? This man acted as if he owned the hotel—constantly asserting “This is my place.” Is he the owner? Waldorf Astoria needs to retrain its staff on basic respect and hospitality—and seriously consider removing those unfit to serve the public. There is no place for this kind of behavior in a brand that claims to offer luxury and professionalism. Shameful and deeply disappointing.
