I am a spa newbie! Okay I go to Korean spas all the time, but it was my first time at a traditional spa and it was just okay for me
Pros:
- Those robes were out of the world luxurious, if they were sold at the small shop, I would have considered buying one depending on the price
- The soaking pool was comfortable. I liked that they had those metal chairs, but it was difficult to lay down and get really comfortable. I almost wish the metal chairs weren't there, and just a ledge in the pool
- The specialized showers were so fun to try after sweating it out in the sauna or after heating up in the soaking pool
- Lots of ammenities: feminine products, razors, toothbrushes, etc
- Staff was super friendly and helpful
- Really relaxing atmosphere, from the moment you get to the spa lobby until you leave
- Plenty of fridges with cold water, plenty of towels you could get
Cons:
- The showers had really horrible water pressure, and I was not fond of the scent of the soap/shampoo/lotion offered. Very masculine. When I got back to my hotel, I actually had to shower again to get the musky smell off me
- Expensive! $90 manicure was the cheapest spa service to get
- The lounge room (with the water and beds) did not have any lighting, so once it got dark it was difficult to lounge about and read your book, I wish some of them had reading lights
- I got a pedicure, which was $90. While the experience was very soothing and relaxing, I was really upset to find out a few days later that my manicurist filed my nails all over, leaving small edges all over my nails! I have tried to buff them out, but it seems like my nails will be stuck with those filings until my nail basically grows out. I understand the rationale for why she filed my nails (typically they use a nail block to lightly rough up the nail bed), it's to ulimately help the polish stick to the nail. But oh my god, just thinking about it makes me upset. I am a nurse, so I only wear nail polish for special occasions. With the small scapes all over my nails, it's impossible to go without polish until my nails grow out and all the scrapes grow out basically. If I had seen the manicurist do this to a nail, I would have stopped her immediately, but I was too relaxed with an eye mask over my eyes to watch what she was doing. I didn't even notice until a few days after the manicure, when I was taking off the polish to go to work did I find all the small scrapes. For all the damage to my nails I had to knock off stars
- While everyone on the spa floor was super friendly, kind, helpful, I have to make a major complaint about the lobby of this hotel. When we walked in, there was no one at the check in counter. There were no signs saying how to get to the spa from the lobby. While I did see one employee in the lobby area, she was too busy chatting the ear off another hotel guest, it was impossible to interject to ask for directions. We ended up having to go outside and asking of the bellmen/valet guys if they knew where we were supposed to go. Is this the typical welcome one should expect from such an esteemed hotel? After some vague directions, we ended up on the right floor, but again, no signs pointing that you had to go to another set of elevators to make it to the spa floor. It's almost like this hotel wanted to keep it's mysteriousness, but instead made it kind of nightmare to get anywhere
So overall, while the spa itself was relaxing and beautiful, beware the labyrinth like hotel interior, and be aware of what damage is done to your nails if you get a manicure.
Would I come again? NO
