Waldo's has been on my radar for quite some time, and this year's Hot Chicken Week seemed like a fitting chance to give it a try.
In honor of the aforementioned Hot Chicken Week, I of course had to order Waldo's featured menu item, the Fowl Mouth hot chicken sandwich. The sandwich includes a sizable fried chicken thigh, spicy habanero oil, a thick slice of cheddar cheese, jalapeño cole slaw, mayo and comeback sauce on a toasted bun. The sandwich was larger than I anticipated, largely due to the massive chicken thigh (much larger than the other sandwich ordered at my table). I'm admittedly not a huge fan of chicken thigh meat, mostly due to the texture, so the meat itself was a little tough to eat. However, the long list of other flavors on top of the chicken made for a tasty sandwich. I didn't find the sandwich to be too hot, but I do have a high heat/spice tolerance. The cole slaw (even with its jalapeño flavor) did a great job of helping to offset the heat.
The side of shoestring fries were good, but nothing to write home about.
Overall, I was pleased with my meal. The service was fast and everyone was very friendly. I'm not sure I'll rush back, but when I do return I'll definitely try some of their non-thigh offerings.
