Ok, this place is rad. It's been on my list for awhile. For some reason I thought they were located in a different part of town...Nope, they're sitting pretty in Sunnyside!
Is it just me? Or have ciders gotten better over the last decade? From my observation, cider makers have taken a similar approach to craft breweries. Experimenting, pushing boundaries, and utilizing high quality ingredients.
Who whudda thunk?
If you're a cider aficionado or novice (like myself), Waldschänke is an exemplary place to begin your journey. For starters, they have a dedicated coffee haus inside the space. Score! I was in need of a caffeine jolt, so it made total sense to start with an Americano. I believe they utilize a local roaster, Mad Loon, if my memory serves me correctly.
The Swiss-inspired ciders are crazy good. Some sweet, some dry, some completely deviating from the norm; which is a positive thing. Flavors of apricot, habanero, cactus flower, cold brew, cherry vanilla, etc. are just the tip of the iceberg. I had full pours of the Mad Lion and Apricot Sour, and sampled many others. Too many. Everything was excellent!
In addition to the product, you'll find a welcoming, inclusive space. An outdoor patio and an Eastern European interior. Do yourselves a favor and support a family owned business like Waldschänke this weekend!
