Wallace Barbecue Restaurant

Wallace is the classic BBQ joint with what you expect on a southern BBQ menu, but here is where they separate themselves from the others. They have long time waitresses, who are helpful, welcoming and love the job. Wallace has customers come back week after week to see the employees because they feel like they are coming to see family. Then there is the food, in a word excellent. I always have said if you are a real southern BBQ restaurant you have to have hand-cut fries and they do. They are golden brown on the outside and tender on the inside. The pork and vinegar based sauce compliment each other well. Slaw is sweet and creamy and why not add some Brunswick stew that doesn’t try and impress with unusual additions, but wows you with flavor warming your soul. It is a must stop for anybody looking for traditional BBQ fare.

The wife and I stopped in for a quick lunch and y'all didn't disappoint. We had the pulled pork sandwich, fries, onion rings, baked beans, coleslaw, and Brunswick Stew.

A local place with a strong local fan base. I prefer a traditional bbq sauce but they served NC style (vinegar based). I got the ribs but they were mostly grizzle. Our waiters was slow to respond. The restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. It’s probably important to note we can around 2:30 pm on a Friday so not a normal peak time (which could explain the service). Our company is a local fan and she knew most the staff; she absolutely enjoyed everything. All in, the locals loved it, and the visitors, not so much. Our 10 year old didn’t enjoy the Mac and cheese. The environment was clean and friendly, and no one rushed us while we enjoyed a reunion amongst friends - that we truly appreciated and tipped accordingly.

This place is so good we went back for seconds! The flavors are fantastic, the staff is patient with tourists like us & extremely helpful! Fresh made food & quick take out service! Large seating area for dine-in. The cook delivered with the flavor & my son loved both the “hot as hell” & “hotter than hell” spicy wings! The vinegar based bbq sauce was a great addition to my grilled chicken dinner (came with two sides!) good prices, great food, & wonderful service! We will be back!

Was really disappointed It’s a nice old family restaurant, but the food is bland. The menu is way too small. Ordered the barbecue pork plate and chose fries as my side. The menu said it came with bread as well. That bread turned out to be a hamburger bun. Their sauce shouldn’t be called sauce since it’s basically just water. There’s no flavor to it and it literally is the consistency of water. It’s not a thick barbecue sauce at all. Overall, very disappointed

Great restraunt! Came here as a memory since my father went back when he was a kid in the 70s and 80s. The last time he went and sat down was in 2001!!! Awesome service and food came out surprisingly quickly. The burger tastes great and has that authentic smokey taste. The fries were decent, nothing to rave about but certainly not bad. I would try again as it has that authentic southern taste and feel!

The place and people are great but.. the food is heavy in vinegar and lacks other seasonings. The coleslaw was not the creamy kind but more sweet and vinegar kind (just a fair warning for those that don't like the vinegar based one). The Brunswick stew was a good mixture for a stew. The chili that was on the chili dog was just ground meat. The burgers, fries, hot wings (weren't hot), and fried chicken were good. I am sure for those that love vinegar based bbq this place is amazing but of the other people it's a bit much. Our waitress was super nice got sat quickly during a dinner high traffic time. Food was pretty quick to come out as well.

Excellent amazing food ribeye was incredible and great price! HOGHLY recommend the fried green beans!

This is the worst barbecue I have ever had. Come to Louisiana and we will show you some good barbecue.... The chicken was so small and cut up. And sooooo dry! And the ribs were awful... the only good thing about it was the French fries.

Another Neighborhood Favorite! We get the Super Salads +grill chicken, chili cheese fries, baked potatoes (reg or sweet potato) and slaw dogs. Quick and friendly service.

Prices are great!! Every person who spoke to staff explained the sauce is native to this BBQ Joint and gets higher ratings from most customers and it's surrounding area. Plenty of kick if wanted!! Brunswick Stew and Chili were faves, I didn't try it or weren't aware of the BBQ Sauce History. Some of the bad reviews seem biased, imo, while others may be due to Covid Days, can't really say. And others I'm sure just don't prefer their type of BBQ. We are have different tastes. Growing up in the North, I like a sweeter sauce, but one taste of the vinegar/worcestershire sauce base and different seasonings and spices is truly a tasty sensation any good Atlanta Suburbanite knows "as the real deal", "Grandma's or Grandpa's Secret Sauce" etc...but certainly a true Georgia Style BBQ Flavor!! It's not for everybody, but it's for a lot of people.

What's good about Wallace BBQ: cute ambience, love the warm interior with red leather booths and Americana decorations. Gives a homey, welcoming vibe. And the service is friendly enough to match. What's bad about Wallace BBQ: the food... almost all of it. Ordered the beef plate and the chicken plate and a bunch of sides. The BBQ sauce is watery vinegar. The fries are soggy. The buns were straight out of a plastic bag. No brisket, no Mac 'n' cheese. Bland coleslaw. The BBQ beef was like a stew, not like actual smoked meat (and meat quality is low). The BBQ chicken seemed like it was baked in an oven, not smoked. The only saving grace was pretty good chili. But I wouldn't recommend anything else.

The service was good. I did takeout but it was still a nice waiting area. Good food and staff.

My first time trying the food and we're very disappointed. The food didn't have no barbecue taste at all, it taste like it was boiled in a pot. No flavor, just bland.... The take out service was bad the lady wasn't friendly at all.....I will never go back to that place again. if you want some good barbecue don't go to Wallace

Wallace BBQ not only has the best BBQ pork, beef, ribs, the best steaks, Hamburger steaks, onion rings, fries, salads, and so on and on. We have been going to Wallaces for over 37 years. They used to be in a small house and they built the new place years ago. Food never changed, it's still as good as ever! The owners and servers are like family. I can't say enough good things about Wallace BBQ and the people who work there. If something is not up to your expectations, they make it right. No arguments they fix it. It's always clean and I love the decorations, especially at Christmas time. We are lifetime Wallace BBQ fans! The sauce is vinegar-based and if you don't care for vinegar-based sauce, there are plenty of other options for you. I don't know why this review is saying I'm in Portland Oregon. LOL

I had high hopes for this place. FOR THE MONEY, it's ok. Excellent Service, low wait time, sweet tea was solid enough. Place looks good. Unfortunately the Food wasent. Came out super fast, which with bbq it can be fast due to the volume of people. . But honestly one of the worst ribs and pulled pork I've had. It wasent that it tasted "bad" It just literally had no flavor. No Smokey flavor, no bark on the ribs, honestly it was like cafeteria ribs.. The sauce was just basically vinegar, and no flavor other than thatthere either. I hate to give low scores but... If you want REAL BBQ, not here.

Haven't been here in over 20 years. It's great to see that it's still the same. The food is like I remembered. Barbecue is as good as anything you'll find in Georgia. Some things never change!

I love going to Wallace for BBQ. My favorite is the pork thrift plate with fries (the best in the world) and sandwich and very wet slaw. Or the BBQ pork salad (with fries, best in world), or the Brunswick stew. Their stew is not as good as mine but pretty darn good. I am not a fan of the ribs but my husband likes them. He also like the beef and I haven't really found good beef anywhere.

They have the best-tasting wings ever just wish they were bigger. But overall I highly recommend this place.

I currently live in Dallas TX but I was driving through Atlanta on my way to Charleston SC a couple of weeks ago. I worked in Austell about 20 years ago and Wallace was a regular lunch stop for me. I decided to stop by and see if it was as good as I remember and the answer is a definite yes! When I got there at about 8 there was about a half hour wait. I got this far so I waited. I got the pork and stew combo. It had been 20 years since I've had Brunswick Stew! It was awesome. Combine that with sweet tea and it's heaven. Thanks Wallace, for the memories and great food.

NEVER AGAIN....the 1st time was the last time and normally I will give a restaurant two chances but not this one! My husband stopped in to pick up dinner. The sign said smoked BBQ. Immediately he noticed there was no brisket or mac'n cheese on the menu. This should have been our first warning to not waste our money. How do you have "smoked bbq" and no brisket? He ordered 2 rib plates and when I tell you these were the absolute worst ribs I had ever tasted. At first I actually thought they were fried because there were so many crunchy pieces. Then, I realized they were just really dry. Then we noticed the top/middle portion of each rib bone was missing as if it got stuck on something and they just tore it off. We lined the ribs up on the plate and you could see the missing meat in the center of each one. Nope....won't be back!

Very nice workers, but food is horrible, worst BBQ sauce I've ever had. Pink lemonade should have been a warning and sub-par sweet was definitely and indication of what was to come.

I vaguely remember coming here years and years ago and was not to fond of wanting to patronize this restaurant. Well, Saturday, September 14 I was in a bit of a moody funk and wanted some homemade onion rings. Mind you, Martin's is usually my go to spot for fresh vidalia onion rings. So I did a Yelp search for "best onion rings" for my location. Wallace pops up. Huh? Really? So after I left Martin's I drove over to Wallace. ONION RINGS. I enter the take out area the lady that helped me was great. She said the onion rings were her favorite. The. She suggested the pit wings. Well I trusted her and ordered both. She even recommended the blue cheese-- which she said was homemade. The wait wasn't long. But goodness o started eating the onion rings before I left the counter. They were piping hot. The only downfall ...they were slightly burnt. I ate those babies anywa! I next time I'll just have to request they dont burn them ... Oh, they didn't skimp on the amount of rings. 10 wings and onions rings were $10. The pit wings were good too. A little small in size, but they were flavorful, even after they got cold. I ate most of them later in the evening. I guess I'll be returning one day for onion rings and pit wings. Oh yeah, that blue cheese dressing was great too and I dont care for blue cheese.

This place is always busy. If you arrive early for lunch, you'll probably still have to wait a few minutes for a table. Waiting is a good sign of good food. They don't disappoint. The food has been very good. I've tried a few items and not been disappointed, but with one exception. They cannot cook French fries. They are always soggy. The people are friendly and the place is clean. If you like BBQ it's worth a stop.

Best BBQ in Georgia, should be world renown. Old timey feel inside which makes you know the bbq is good. Best French fries and their ribs are killer. Should get more than 5 stars.

Best BBQ now and that I grew up on! Others don't compare. If people don't like it then I feel they were raised on a different kind of BBQ. ‍ I love their sauce (which is more runny) than other places. I do not like thick bbq sauce. I have had just about everything on the menu and it's all good. If you are from this area, you just don't like any other kind of bbq. Love the place and the people.

Went here for dinner on Thursday. I got there around 4:30 pm and was immediately taken to my seat. If you are coming here on Friday or the weekend, you should come earlier than six. This place is extremely popular with locals, and you could find yourself waiting for over an hour for a table if you come later in the day. As far as service, our waiter was excellent and promptly asked us for our drink orders. We were also greeted immediately by a host when we entered the restaurant. Our server was extremely friendly and took good care of us throughout our stay. Our food was also promptly delivered, which was an excellent bonus. The food quality was also excellent. I had the two-piece grilled chicken dinner plate with fries and a house salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the fries were delicious, as always. The salad was also good and contained fresh ingredients. There is nothing worse than a salad where the restaurant is clearly using old ingredients and trying to get rid of their current supply. The beef super salad was also excellent. The beef was perfectly cooked, and the salad was well-presented. When it was delivered, it looked appetizing and extremely colorful. All in all, I would give this restaurant five stars. The service was excellent and the food was top notch. If you are in the area, and looking for good barbecue in a homey-style restaurant, I would highly recommend that you check this place out.

no attention to detail. when you order a salad it's very important to put the dressing in the bag. it's 15 degrees out and I'm not about to drive all the way back for my salad dressing. I have none at home either. really stinks. I'm really hungry too. can't eat my salad with NO DRESSING

Came here due to the reviews but I don't get it. The place had a great decor, everyone was nice, so don't let this review be a reflection of the service or hospitality, but strictly the food. It's so bland, everything tastes like it was made in a slow cooker and just has junk sauce on it. No smoke ring on anything, I don't think they actually smoke anything. Was pretty disappointed.

I was craving some BBQ beef brisket and decided to order from this place. They don't use brisket but round roast which is cheaper, flavorless and tough! I decided to also try the pulled pork. It tasted like it was boiled. The BBQ sauce is vinegar-based and runny. I had high hopes for this place and was totally unimpressed.

Had a great lunch there! Food was excellent! Service by Shelly was great! She was very personable and we received our drinks and food very quickly! Restaurant was busy, but still got fantastic service. Thanks Shelly!!!

What has happen to Wallace Barbecue. The waitress was horrible and the food was cold and the fries were raw. This was a great restaurant now it is mediocre at best. Will not return...

I am shocked that Wallace's doesn't have 5 stars! What?! My family and I have been coming here since I was a kid. I moved to Conyers in 1993 and we go pick up and bring home family meals all the time. It is well worth the drive. This is my favorite BBQ on the planet. I could put that sauce on everything! When you come in and sit down, you order and there's literally no wait time. Voila! They bring your food out so fast... And the service is always friendly. (Did I mention try the sauce? on everything)

Sorry I just don't get it. 2 pork plates w/stew an extra side of slaw and salad: $26.50 BBQ was watery and fatty. Fries were cold and greasy. Baked potato wasn't done. Stew was a brown mush. Service sucked. Oh and it wasn't like this was an off time. It was 6pm Saturday night. Pros: slaw, salad and sweet tea was good.

Great location and nice southern feel. Staff was rather friendly and service was fast. I ordered a LB of ribs, pulled pork and stew combo plate, baked potato, and slaw. The food was just ok, and for a southern bbq place I was disappointed that there was no mac and cheese, potato salad, or green beans or collards. The ribs were chopped and rather small but cooked well. The pulled pork was pretty good but i had to jazz up my sauce. The Brunswick stew and slaw were lacking. Nothing some added sauce, salt, and pepper couldnt fix but i probably wouldn't try it again

I don't think they have a smoker at Wallace BBQ!!!! I have seen this place in passing and I've always wanted to try it. Today was the first and the last. I really don't know why it's so highly rated.

Love this place. Been coming here for years and always get the same the items. Blue Cheese dressing on salad is great. I always buy a fried apple pie when I leave. I enjoy the lack of political correctness: as a senior citizen enjoy being called " Honey".

We were just driving by and in the need of lunch. We were warmly welcomed and seated quickly in their quirky dining area. The waitress named Mary waited on us and couldn't have been any better. She was quick, funny and knew most of her guests by name. We had ribs, pork bbq on a bun, fresh cut fries, homemade onion rings and a salad. They serve ample portions and even a big bowl of their tangy bbq sauce for the table. The ribs were tender and wouldn't even require extra sauce but it was a nice touch. Their sauce tends to be on the thinner tangy vinegary based side which was right up my alley. It worked perfect on the pulled pork sammie. The service is wonderful, the food is great as are the prices. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

This place is honestly nothing special. Idk why it is so highly rated? The pork is so bland and you have to wait forever for mediocre BBQ. There is WAY better BBQ restaurants then this place. The bbq sauce is basically vinegar and runny as heck and the pork has no smoke ring. Love to read first time eater reviews of this local bbq establishment. It has unique flavors and ways of doing bbq thats are not traditional so many first time eaters are disappointed. They are often taken back by the thin dark vinegar sauce served with all meats. The lack of traditional bbq sides like collard greens and Mac and cheese might seem to be missing. This is not a traditional southern bbq place. The stew is really a stewed mush of meat and vegetables. It's unique but not traditional Brunswick stew. Their dark vinegar sauce is excellent for cutting the richness of the pork. Few places in the South has pit beef but Wallace has it and it's good! It's chopped like pork and sometimes hard to tell the slight flavor difference and consistency from pork. My favorites: homemade salad dressings, fresh cut fries, smoked wings, chopped pork and beef all ways, all steaks, and slaw. Dislikes: ribs that are small and often dry. They need a thicker sauce to help with moistness. I go for the pork plate with fries and salad with 1000 island dressing and sweet tea! If it's cold and I'm extra hungry, I'll get it with stew. They must do bbq right with a full dining room at lunch and dinner times. Newbies might have to come a few times before you appreciate the freshness, tastes, and value of this unique restruant, but it's excellent bbq.

I love barbecue but I hate this place. Only because the barbecue wasn't good. The people are nice and very friendly. The place was also packed so I know plenty of people like it. I'm from Memphis so I like a different kind of barbecue. Wallace's was too vinegary for me. I asked for extra sauce and I was given a small container of a water-like fluid?!? When I said I expected it to be thicker, I was told you can't taste the flavor of the meat with thick barbecue sauce.... Well I like thick sauce. The fries were pretty good and again the staff was very nice. If you like dry, vinegary barbecue with seasoned sauce. You may like it. Just wasn't for me.

Best BBQ around staff is super friendly good size portions for the price. Scott and Mark are great people that interact with their customers from just walking by the tables saying hello making sure everything is good to fixing a problem if you have one. Most people don't take the time to speak to their customers but they do. You won't find better BBQ anywhere.

A friend encouraged my wife and I to try Wallace Barbecue, because our friend knew of my love for good barbecue, specifically ribs and brisket. After arriving, the greeter and server were very friendly and in no time we were seated. As I looked through the menu, I immediately started to worry. I asked the server where was brisket noted on their menu. I was informed that they didn't serve brisket. I should have known then, but I tried to hang in there, so I then asked about their ribs, and the server stated, they only had baby back ribs. I'm now thinking let me just try their ribs. My wife was disappointed that she couldn't order a brisket sandwich on bun. So the server suggested, a beef sandwich that resemble a pot roast sandwich. We both responded at a barbecue restaurant. To my surprise, the two meals came out and the ribs and pot-roast were wet-like and falling apart like they came out of a pressure cooker or boiled. Neither meals had any barbecue smoke taste what so ever, and obviously absolutely no smoke rings were on their meats. If that wasn't bad enough, then the server placed what she called barbecue sauce on the table, it was no traditional barbecue sauce that I had ever experienced. Their barbecue sauce resembled meat juice, oil, mixed with I assume some type of ketchup base. It was terrible!! However, one positive note, the two meats were extremely tender and falling apart. The ribs that came to the table didn't look appealing at all. I will admit that there appeared to be folks dining, who seemed to be enjoying their meals. I would recommend visiting the resturant's website before visiting or acting on a friend's recommendation. Fifteen minutes after arriving, we left both meals on the table, and paid our bill. We exited and went to another restaurant to eat dinner, it was an expensive night out. I would encourage folks to look at the website pics to get a better idea of what your experience will be like. I really don't like bashing restaurants, but we were so disappointed that I had to write this review to warn true barbecue enthusiasts!!!

Fact: This is the best barbecue in the Tri-County area. And I'm not trying to start the Great BBQ War of 2017, it's just that Hudson's and Rodney's cannot compete with Wallace. Its not confrontational if it's true. No matter what type of meat you get, it is always cooked to perfection. Their pork has less fat, their barbecue chicken falls off the bone, and their chopped steak is on point. Also, they make their own ranch in house and I could probably drink it with a straw. Speaking of straw, get the sweet tea. It's exactly the way tea should be in Georgia - sugary sweet. I have pretty much eaten through the menu here, and have yet to have anything bad. My favorite appetizers are fried pickles, fried green beans, and fried jalapeño poppers. Just a disclaimer, if you are looking for a healthy place to eat, this may not be the spot for you. While they do have salads, sweet potatoes, and grilled chicken (all of which are good) the plethora of smoked and fried foods may be too tempting to someone like me who usually has no will power a few days into a new diet...

Had the pork plate with Stew and fries.Pork was over done and came swimming in a vinegar BBQ sauce I guess to moisten the dry pork.The stew was like rock soup almost all water and nothing else.French fries were really good. When the server asked how was everything and I said not very good she said fine and walked away WOW..

Staple lunch spot when I lived and worked in the area. I moved out of state about a decade ago and have stopped by every time I'm in town to get a sandwich and a couple bottle of hot sauce to get me through until the next time. I have had several compliments on the hot sauce when I serve it to friends and family. Keep at it guys! You do great work!

i live in Los Angeles and think about this place often- amazing food (pulled pork sandwich combo w/sweet tea baked potato and delicious coleslaw, what up!) amazing homemade fried fruit pies, all at a price that would easily cost $40 in LA prices but at Wallace's the prices and quality are unbeatable.

Haven't been here in years. It is every bit as delicious as I remember! I got the pork super salad with blue cheese dressing. They make the dressing themselves and it is fabulous! DH got the pork plate with fries and onion rings. Fries are hand-cut, not some frozen "mystery" potatoes. Service was quick and food is reasonably priced. Next time I'm traveling, I'll be here again!

I discovered this BBQ place about 1 year ago. I absolutely love it!! The fries are fresh cut and awesome. I also love the ribs, stew, beans pork and cole slaw. Everything is made from scratch daily and you can taste the difference! The staff is super friendly and service is quick and they keep your drinks filled all the time. It makes me happy to see such a well run restaurant - the family cares about what they serve and obviously take care if their employees aa they are always happy, helpful and efficient!!

I grew up on the same street as the Wallaces, so their BBQ restaurant has been a part of my life. The BBQ is great if you like South Carolina BBQ. I LOVE IT! Service was slow, but we got out in a reasonable amount of time.

Allie offered the best service I've ever had at a restaurant! Meal was great, but Allie made the experience worth visiting again!

This place is STILL amazing! Every time I go here I get the same waitress, Allie. She's always friendly and somehow keeps up with what's going on in my life even though I'm sure that she does it with everyone else as well! In addition to that, everyone is nice and the service is outstanding. Little hints that first-timers need to know: 1) You seat yourself and the waitress will come to you table to take your order. When you walk in they will greet you, and let you know to sit wherever you like and ask if you need a menu. 2) The BBQ sauce is vinegar based and REALLY thin. It's not like the store bought stuff. 3) It's a family restaurant, they are SUPER friendly. If something is wrong or you don't like something, let them know. I've been going to this place for almost two years now, I've never had an issue with my food that they weren't willing to fix. Can't decide what to get? Get the Chopped Steak, you will NOT regret it.
