Wallkill View Farm Market - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"Those who frequent the Shawangunks (aka The Gunks) for rock climbing know that there are two places to get cider doughnuts on the way from New Paltz to the crag: Wallkill View Farms and Jenkins & Leuken Orchards. We prefer the doughnuts at Walllkill. This is a particularly fluffy doughnut, with a generically fall flavor that tastes like catching a whiff of an autumnal Yankee candle on a mountain breeze. You can buy them in any quantity. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Good local farm store several freshly grown items. You are paying for quality here 😄

Google
I love this place!! It's always crowded on the weekend, but it's the best place for fresh fruits and veggies. They have a large selection of jams and preserves, and everything I've tried is awesome. I am also able to satisfy my plant obsession in the garden market. Plus, the smell of fresh cider donuts will hit you the moment you get out of the car!!

Google
Great little farm market and nursery. Produce is always great quality. Plenty of plants and flowers if you have a green thumb too. But the true treat - the best apple cider donuts in town (and always go for the cinnamon sugar version) and during the summer strawberry donuts are available too

Google
Just recently came upon this Market and can't say enough great things about it! Walked in there this morning to the sweet, delicious smell of fresh baked goods, the fruit & vegetables look so fresh & mouth watering and the selection & variety of garden plants is amazing! In addition, there are all sorts of miscellaneous decor to choose from that you can very easily want to purchase one of everything! To make it even better (just when you think it couldn't get better!!!!!) the prices are phenomenal! Definitely an A+ 100% all around environment from the moment you walk in the door to the friendly and helpful staff you just cannot go wrong! You will not be disappointed!

Google
Great produce at good prices. Way better veggies at the same price as tops or less. Don't forget to check the homemade mozzarella! Not 5* due to it being a tourist trap. Generally packed with gawkers looking at overpriced artisanal ka kah. Staff are great and friendly. 5* mid week.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to have a friend pick me up some food from Wallkill Farms while she was in NY. She brought me back some lovely peaches, blueberries and tomatoes. All delicious and fresh. Beautifully ripe peaches - super in season. Along with the fruit I got some ciabatta rolls and a loaf of sourdough. Absolutely delicious. The sourdough is one of the best I've ever had. I'm almost upset she got me these goodies because the market is so far away but I'm glad I got to try some delicious things. If you're in the area don't sleep on this market!

Yelp
A nice chunk of my 22 years living in White Plains, was spent buying produce for juicing and cooking at my fave market in Hartsdale. Now that we're living in The Catskills, my quest to find that similar market prototype I grew to love in Westchester, continues. I had forgotten hubs and I came here before during one of our bi-annual trips to The Catskills. Recently though, when I searched for produce markets near work in Highland, Wallkill View in New Paltz popped up within a short driving distance. As you drive past all of New Paltz bustling shops and restaurants on Main St, you'll soon approach a sleepy farmland area overlooking Mohonk Preserve in about 5 or so minutes. I've been hard-pressed to find a market that tops my favorite one in Westchester and checks all the boxes. Wallkill View grows and sells a nice mix of produce the area has to offer. And when veggies and fruit aren't grown on-site or in season, they're sourced from elsewhere. Unlike other farm markets that operate only Sat+Sun, Wallkill V. is open everyday. Well...almost. These folks shut down for Christmas and throughout the winter- reopening in March. Prices are about $1 more than what I paid down in White Plains- but hey... I get it. Service is great though.

Yelp
I'm a fortunate local who typically visits Wallkill View Farm Market weekly, when time permits. During the summer, I build my meal plans around what I know will be fresh, local and plentiful from the Market. We purchase our Summer and Fall hanging plants as well as annuals and perennials for our garden. In addition, we love the wide variety of pumpkins that I roast at the end of the season and use year round. Our Christmas Tree comes from the Market every year too. The family and staff are extremely helpful and friendly. There are days, particularly in the Summer and Fall when the market is pretty overrun with tourists who, on occasion, forget that they are not in the big city and become quite rude and demanding. I have never witnessed any staff member respond rudely or inappropriately. I, on the other hand, would have been likely to have a swift retort for some guests. Are the prices a little higher than one might pay at Walmart? Yes, and the quality is far superior and the $ goes to support a local business that, in turn, employs locals and contributes to the local economy. I can't wait for my next visit!

Yelp
Nice place. Parking infront of the store. Fresh baked goodies. Fresh fruits and vegetables available. Friendly staff.

Yelp
Excellent, fresh produce. Irresistibly seductive fresh bakery items as well, especially the cider donuts. An extensive gift shop, too, if that's what you want. They carry a line of bottled peppers, Peck's Pickled Peppers, and although they are not cheap, they're worth every penny. Great local products. I give them particularly high marks on customer service. We purchased what was labelled as a blueberry pie for a dinner party, only to find that it was cherry. (Hey, they're human, too.) I emailed them, but wondered whether my email went through or whether they'd respond. But that same day, their manager was all over it, apologizing and offering another pie or store credit. Made me feel kind of guilty, actually, as we had no problem eating that cherry pie. But it was clearly the right thing for them to do, and they did it.

Yelp
After soccer, we relish visiting this farm where we delight in their fresh and flavorful vegetables.

Yelp
This is a cute store filled with fruits, veggies, baked goods, ice cream, jams, gifts, etc. You get the idea. Outside are the plants. Its a cute place to browse through. My reasons for not giving a higher score: I was expecting a store that sold fruits and veggies grown on their farm. And while there is definitely some of that, there is also produce that is definitely shipped in. So then it feels like any other grocery store (but in a cute barn). I would personally like it better if the store only had locally grown produce. People can get pineapples, etc. at the grocery down the road. Also, I think that some of the prices are a bit high. For example: the ice cream was $3.70 for a tiny scoop.

Yelp
Cute market in New Paltz. It's not as big as others in upstate NY but gets the job done if you want some pumpkins and some apple cider donuts. Prices were kind of steep. They only have port a potties on site for a restroom which is why I'm deducting a star. I also thought they had a pick a pumpkin patch but did not see it so I bought a pumpkin that was already picked, but I definitely prefer picking mine straight off the vine.

Yelp
Got some pumpkin bread - delicious! Also they have a Christmas decoration section and plants section. Really enjoyed their plant selection and couldn't help myself from purchasing one. The prices for the plants were well marked.

Yelp
You have to get a pumpkin muffin and an apple cider donut while we still have them Also the sweet frying Peppers, red and green are absolutely delicious use them in salads

Yelp
**Update - See my note in response to their comment below. I am sorry to have to give this place only three stars, so I will explain. I would give them five stars for their plants - especially their packs of flowers, veggies and herbs. Every year I love getting healthy 4 packs to get my deck garden going. I especially love that they have Thai basil - not many places do. I was there today to pick up one of their highly advertised key lime tarts. There were ads and pictures on Facebook showing beautiful key lime pies and individual key lime tarts. I noticed they had full size (smallish) pies for $15, and then a box of three individual tarts for $15. I asked for just one tart, and I was told they were only sold in packages of three. What's the point of selling individual key lime tarts if you can't buy AN INDIVIDUAL key lime tart? They get one star for this. This was extremely disappointing. In fact I was planning on purchasing some fresh produce as well, but was so disappointed that I walked out of there empty-handed. I'll continue to purchase my plants here, but will take my bakery business elsewhere. **In response to their claim that sharing a page on their facebook page doesn't constitute advertising - that's positively absurd. They are advertising the availability of this new product in their store. They said "To be clear, we didn't post any advertisements -- rather we shared a photo of the pies from Late Bloomer Farm's Facebook page. That said, we completely understand your confusion." I am not confused. I based my disappointment on the fact that they advertised individual tarts, and weren't actually selling individual tarts. I posted a photo which is a screen shot of their facebook ADVERTISEMENT.

Yelp
We love grabbing fruit and veg from here, and they carry Jane's ice cream and great local eggs and bacon. But the Christmas trees? Mind blowing. We picked up ours on December 11, they tied it to the roof of our car, we got it home, sawed off a couple inches, and set it up. Come February (!!?!!), we were still so enamored with it, and it was still taking water and looking angelic, we couldn't bring ourselves to take it down. It finally made its exit on Feb 13, but probably would have been fine another couple weeks. Here is a picture of its gloriousness on Feb 6, 8 weeks in. Wonderful! Thanks, Wallkill View Farm!

Yelp
Key Lime Pie, to die for!! - we had our 1st this weekend and can't believe how fantastic it was. We've frequented the market for the last 15 years for the impressive produce and specialty items but have never seen the key lime pie before. It's totally amazing and well worth the 2 hour drive to get there. Want more pie!!!

Yelp
I have to say I'm disappointed... When I saw they were open during this crazy time I was so grateful. I've been in multiple times before and they've always had a nice selection. Now my reason for rating this at a 2 is their concern for safety during this time. Originally when I went in last week, I was impressed with their quick set up to help combat the spread of germs and to protect their employees and customers. They recently added in large sheets of plexiglass in front of their bakery and up front check out areas. I was impressed on how quickly they responded with putting them up and I noticed the employees were sanitizing surfaces diligently. They had signs putting limits on how many people could be in the store and were directing people through one entrance and one exit. It was all very conscientious in response to everything going on. Yet today, when I revisited, I was astonished at how quickly they seemed to give up on effort. As you all know, NYS government has issued covering your face while out in public spaces (where social distancing is unavoidable) is mandatory. Yet when I was walking around one of the older men employees was wearing his mask only covering his mouth and not his nose! In fact the mask was upside down like it was thrown on carelessly! The farm is covered in signs stating they are only allowing in 10 people max at a time which is great... if it's upheld. There was at least 15 people or more all in the small space up front! I felt extremely unsafe being in such a small space with a large group of people so I waited in the greenhouse while some cleared out. I noticed that the employees weren't really being very diligent in stopping people. To top it all off there were customers inside without masks or any sort of face covering! I was blown away! It wasn't like the employees didn't notice either. I watched as one customer asked if it was okay to go in without a mask and an older lady, who I believe to be the owner, okayed it! It is a business owner's responsibility to look after the safety of its workers and customers and to follow by any rules put in place by the government! Be warned if you shop there on weekends right now because they obviously aren't taking proper safety precautions when large amounts of people come to their door.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast after camping out and hiking at Indian Head/Twin Mtn. This market has so many things to look at and eat! Jam, sauces, vegetables, fruits galore! - ICE CREAM! The bourbon pecan and kahlua calypso were soooo good - cinnamon apple cider doughnut I wanted to buy some plants too - they got rosemary, thyme, all the herbs!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Cute little market with a bakery inside. I tried a cinnamon apple cider doughnut for the first time and it was amazing!!!! The first bite was just wow! Super soft and just the right amount of sweetness! I can't stop thinking about how delicious that doughnut was. It wasn't greasy at all either! It was perfection! Especially since we ate it right in front of the fireplace (:
google avatar

Yelp
Love the fresh produce! And the Lemoncello and Lavender ice cream is awesome when it is in stock!

Michael S.

Yelp
Is it ok for employees to stand and watch as a customer struggles with cart load of purchases on a stuck cart over uneven paving? Is it ok for employees to ignore his request for help? Is it ok for a customer to have to rely on the kindness of other customers for help while the employee just stands there doing nothing? If you answered yes to these questions you'll love this place. If you answered no and you feel that human beings, particularly people selling stuff, should show basic manners then you won't.

Yelp
Great fruits and vegetables. We always stop by this place when driving past. You will not be disappointed with the produce or the flowers. I typically purchase my fall plants here ( mums and decorative cabbages) and pumpkins. It is also difficult to pass on the Jane's ice cream. We love the Thai peanut the most. It has ginger and coconut with some peanuts for a full flavor that both cools and heats your mouth.
google avatar

Michele L.

Yelp
Such a cute farm and market! It was so nice walking around the premises! There are beautiful flowers growing in the back where we saw some butterflies fluttering about! We even saw a hummingbird! Picked up a fresh thai basil plant and picked up some fresh vegetables! Tried their strawberry doughnut which was okay but not my favorite. The veggies were fresh and tasty and I definitely would come back again!

Yelp
visited a come of time and finally tried ice cream here and some baked goods. first I got say the girls that work here are very friendly and one of them never stopped smiling, while dealing with customers of all kinds. so I ordered a cup with a scoop of cappuccino kalua calypso and a scoop of coconut almond joy. the cappuccino ice cream was bursting with flavor and got to say it was strong. coconut almond joy was the best, it tasted exactly like a almond joy bar in ice cream form. its bit pricy for two scoops, but the flavors they have are amazing and very rare not seen in other ice cream places in the area, for example, never have I seen limoncello or peanut Thai coconut flavor expect for them. as for the bake good, I had a strawberry donut, it was soft and a light strawberry flavor. never had a donut that was strawberry flavor only strawberry frosting. I found the bakery section in general fairly priced cheaper then other bakery places in NP and looked fresh plus homemade. :)

Renee R.

Yelp
Really cute farmers market. Good prices (5.95 gallon of cider) veggies, jams and candles were priced well.we came Veterans Day weekend and the pumpkins were done even in their patch they were rotted. But everything was great.
google avatar

Lily W.

Yelp
If you haven't been here, shame on you! Everything here is so fresh - the produce and the baked goods. My family looks forward to me bringing pies from here for our reunions. I also love stocking up on their Kombucha selection.

Yelp
Had a fun time pumpkin picking and getting some fresh produce here. The corn and cauliflower looked amazing and I can't wait to make some delicious side dishes with them!

Yelp
Conveniently located right outside of New Paltz (about 10 minute drive) is a great farm! My family and I have been coming here for years. It has a warm and inviting feeling. The farm always has a great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables that are reasonably priced. I would also grab a cup of hot apple cider while you are shopping around! The staff is very accommodating and willing to help. Activities include: hayride, pumpkin patch, corn maze, and much more. Hands down one of the best corn mazes I have ever been in. My family and I couldn't stop laughing the entire time! The maze costs $4.00 per person. Bring boots, you will get muddy! -If I could, i would rate this farm ten stars! **********

Bob B.

Yelp
If you buy a dozen donuts, COUNT them before you leave. They will short you then blame it on "the girls". Most places will give you a a donut or two extra but not here. You won't even get the amount that you paid for. I can also tell you the farm uses the water from the Wallkill river for irrigation and that the pollutants in that river are more than10X the federal limit for safe swimming. Yummy! . See the attached article: http://www.recordonline.com/news/20170324/report-pollutants-in-wallkill-river-far-exceed-safe-level

Yelp
From fresh cut Christmas Trees in December to an abundance of Herbs and Summer plantings, they've always got their garden fully stocked with plentiful items to select from. Honeys, Strawberries, Nectarines, Key Lime Pies, Apple Pies, fresh Baked Croissants, Home made Ice-cream in a variety of flavors, Locally hand made Christmas Ornaments, NY Maple syrups, etc... Nice people... scratch that... Very nice people running this store! Always on my list to drop in when in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
Super serene place to be and the selection is wonderful! I'm very much looking forward to eating the fresh eggs I bought and the few veggies I tasted were so so fresh. It was clean, organized, and smelt fantastic when you walked in. Friendly staff and decently priced. A lot of homegrown produce and also some fun things like lotions and jam. Had a small bakery in the corner to order from. Recommend going for a morning with friends, good time.
google avatar

Brandi S.

Yelp
This place is amazing for fresh fruits and vegetables. The prices are more than reasonable. They have fresh local food. The bakery portion seemed amazing too, although I didn't have a chance to pick up any goodies. A must for New Paltz.
google avatar

J E.

Yelp
Conveniently located on 299 between New Paltz and the entries to Mohonk Preserve and Peterskill and Minnewaska State Parks. Excellent produce, much of it local, including terrific heirloom tomatoes in the summer. In the fall, local apples are sold and the canning goes into full swing. I hope to one day again be able to get the smoked, pickled jalapenos I once purchased there. In the early winter (they close around christmas and do not reopen until late March), go for cider and enjoy the open fireplace in front of the bakery. Before I lived in the Hudson Valley I used to stop here to get great produce at low prices to take back to NYC. Now that I live in the area I can enjoy them all the time, and so much better and cheaper than the supermarket.
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and go up to New Paltz, pick up some apples and bread, hike through the Shawnagunks and eat that food for lunch. On your way back, get some apple cider. It tastes just like you're biting into an apple. It's definitely the way to go. I'm pretty sure this place only has great food. Their apple cider donuts, cider, bread and apples are all top of the line.

M T.

Yelp
I'm giving them a 1 for being dismissive. I bought a pie for $22, which is fine if it's awesome. This was substandard. Wasn't a good key lime pie and whipped cream was flat and icky. Bought it Sunday afternoon and called and left a messsge Monday morning. They never responded. Called again Friday and the woman who answered the phone said it was very strange that I'd called; no one had ever complained about anything before. Huh? I asked her how often the key lime pies were delivered and she responded with "they have a very long shelf life and are delivered twice a week." At no time was there any attempt to fix things or any apology offered. I asked if that was it, and maybe they didn't want me as a customer anymore? She said yes. Big thumbs down, Wallkill View. I've shopped there for 20 years but not anymore. Their customer service is totally lacking. Fortunately there are so many other wonderful places to shop.

Debbie F.

Yelp
Farm has been around forever . Great fresh veggies , etc but nothing every changes . Each season they open with all the same things in the same place which gets old ! Wonderful fresh bakery but many of the goodies are uncovered and always covered in flies .
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
Good selection of produce including fresh figs in season, heirloom tomatoes, and yummy ice cream!
google avatar

Lara S.

Yelp
This place is amazing! One of my favorite spots in New Paltz.
google avatar

Aaron M.

Yelp
Just about the best variety of their own, local and out of the area produce you can find in the Hudson Valley. Every item is marked clearly as to source so if you prefer as we do to buy locally, this is a great place to shop for fresh local produce. Their prices are also better than others in the area. Excellent fruits and all kinds of vegetables when in season. tremendous plant nursery with all the supplies too. Weekends are busy. Weekdays are more convenient. Either way, this is a great place to shop.
google avatar

Yelp
Fresh produce and yummy baked goods. Friendly service, picturesque locale. Fair prices and christmas trees.
google avatar

Yelp
Went here October 25th with the kids pumpkin picking. Nice sized pumpkin patch and imo it was reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and they have a nice farmers market. Not too far from me and easy to find. Good place overall.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
An amazing market run by an amazing family. The cider donuts and bacon are highlights, and the flower selection is unparalleled. Come for the corn maze, pick your own pumpkin and hay ride during the fall. All in all, a must stop on any trip to New Paltz.
google avatar

Hannah V.

Yelp
Easily my favorite farm market in the area. A great range of produce and plants and a totally amazing bakery. The entire place smells like their delicious apple cider doughnuts; if you can walk out without buying one you must either have iron self-control or really, really hate doughnuts. The black and white cookies are perfect.

Iszy C.

Yelp
Love it ! Huge selection, fair prices for quality foods, super nice staff. Everything you'd want in a local market. Every time I go I end buying a ton from the bakery, SO GOOD.

Holly D.

Yelp
I have driven past Wallkill View Farm Market without stopping in many times on my way home from New Paltz, and made the great decision to stop in the other day. This is a great overall farm stand. There is a really nice variety of plants and seeds. My husband and I bought two hanging baskets, which are beautiful and were very reasonably priced. The produce is excellent, the strawberries I purchased the other day are the best I've had all season, and the tomatoes are beautiful as well. It was fun looking at the specialty foods (especially some neat looking pastas). It was tough staying away from the baked goods, and we wound up bringing home some chocolate and cinnamon rugelach, which was worth the calories. My household goes through a lot of produce, and this is a great place to stop and restock.

George A.

Yelp
This is your classic, roadside farm stand with a real nice nursery business as well. The seasonal, locally grown veggies are terrific. The plants and flower selection in the summer are quite wonderful. And in the fall, they've got pumpkins! Fun, hay bale tunnel for the kids. The bake shop offers delicious pies, cookies and the like. I've been coming here for ten years and always look forward to dropping in. The only criticism is that sometimes the young staff aren't fully informed and could be a bit more eager to help. But they will get someone quickly who can answer any questions you might have. Stop on in and take home some apples likely harvested (especially in the fall) within a day or so of your visit.

Sonny Y.

Yelp
We had a great time at Wallkill View Farm after visiting the dreadful Apple Hill Farm a few miles away (see my review). Wallkill View has a lot going for it--fruits, veggies, knick-knacks, baked goods, butterfly pretzels, and even a fireplace on cold days. There is a pumpkin patch out back where kids can pick their own pumpkins. I was there during the holidays last year and they have a "Christmas Shop" with the classiest decorations. The employees are very pleasant and helpful. Great place.
