Miami’s Best Milkshakes | Eater Miami

"There’s something special about a classic chocolate milkshake with a handful of colorful sprinkles. While that’s not all that’s served at Walls Old Fashioned Ice Cream, it’s easily a fan favorite. With plenty of flashy shakes popping up all over town, it’s always nice to keep it simple sometimes." - Amber Love Bond

Gabriel was amazing! He attended to us with so much patience, letting us try different flavors without ever rushing us. His kindness really stood out, and he served us with a great smile and positive energy the whole time. On top of that, he had a fresh haircut that just added to his overall great vibe! Excellent customer service — Gabriel made our visit to Wall’s Ice Cream a fantastic experience. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
Such a really old fashioned place. Great attention, the ice creams are really tasty. Truly recommended!

We visited here after having lunch at The Big Cheese pizza across the street. It was starting to rain and as we ran across the street one of the workers yelled out the window, “Don’t run! The ice cream isn’t that good!” Joking; but he was right! I’ve lived in Miami for 35 years and passed this place countless times! I had never been before. So I was excited to finally try it. It was pretty disappointing. You know how ice cream gets syrupy and “grainy” when it’s old? You can see the syrupy film on the top, and edges. Like, if your ice cream melts and then you regress it! That was Wall’s ice cream. Pretty gross. I love the old 50’s aesthetic. The inside is very small and cute! They have a lot of board games you can use while eating. The staff was nice and friendly. The prices were a bit high for the low quality. But, I’m glad to say I finally tried it. I wouldn’t go back, but I think everyone should try it at least once.

Google
An old fashioned ice cream parlor in 2024. There you can feel that you are traveling in time. From the parking lot to the inside counter you can sense the authenticity. Young courteous employees will welcome you, they are ready to help you to choose which flavor you want to try. The ice cream is tasty and made out of the best ingredients.

My daughter and I have a special tradition of pizza and ice cream every other Friday and this is our go-to spot! She loves all the fun flavors and toppings, and the ice cream is always fresh. It’s the kind of ice cream shop you want to go to, cozy, welcoming, and consistently delicious. Highly recommend!

Google
Ice cream was good. The venue is a dump. Went with the kids to buy ice-cream at night. The entire front outside sitting area, handicap ramp and parking lot was in pure darkness. Be very, very careful walking through this area to go inside. The two young men inside are very unanimated. One was busy watching one of the "John Wick" movies and the other was eating his dinner from the Big Cheese. Basically just collecting a paycheck. Bottom line, ownership seems to be waiting for the right million dollar offer for the property, thus the poorly kept venue.

Walls is a classic 🍨 Felipe and his family are amazing! always serving up some delicious flavors and classics you must try! I just tried their Birthday Cake which was like a vanilla sorbet and a nice birthday cake had a baby 🤤 so good! They also have a Wall Challenge which i did years ago, too many amazing scoops 😋 When you stop by tell Felipe i say 👋

Google
Great place and kinda nostalgic. Walls has been around for a very long time and the place makes you feel like your kinda going back to the 80's. Oh!! Their ice cream is also fantastic but the shakes are wonderful.

Yelp
A good, straightforward ice cream shop that's been around forever! My girlfriend and I decided to stop in for a treat after dinner - she ordered a scoop of ice cream and I chose a root beer float. I was asked to make my soda selection from their cooler, so I chose Sprecher's root beer and vanilla ice cream. I think that's as Plain Jane you can get. There were a few patrons when we arrived and the two guys behind the counter seemed to struggle with taking orders, giving out samples, and charging customers. I was asked to wait until a couple in front of me had completed the entire sampling-ordering-paying process before I could communicate my order. This was a weeknight - I'm scared to imagine the inefficiencies on a busier night. Because there wasn't much of a crowd, we were able to enjoy our treats on their spacious, well-lit back patio. Definitely a nice place to stop by to treat yourself!

Yelp
Decent and moderately priced for a standard milkshake. Has been around for ages and continues to draw locals. Could use a refurbish and paint job--looks like it hadn't happened since the 60s. They may be trying to make it look "old" but it just looks neglected and makes one question the sanitation therein.

Yelp
Stopped in for 2 pints of ice cream after having lunch nearby. We ordered Rocky Road & Peanut Butter Cup! They were $9 each. The ice cream here is creamy & delicious & the place was packed!! The Superhero is very popular & is my son's favorite. It turns your tongue blue when you eat it!! We didn't get it today but all the kids were ordering it.

Yelp
Old school ice cream parlor with a wonderful array of flavors and excellent service. When I choose a business to patronize, I will virtually always choose a family run establishment over a chain. And while I optimally prefer an ice cream restaurant that makes their own ice cream, locally sourced products of this caliper certainly hit the spot. Being on a low carb diet when I do indulge, I want to be sure that I'm going to be satisfied with my choice. At Wall's, I know that will happen. I ordered the triple chocolate because the only thing better than chocolate is double chocolate and the only thing better than double chocolate is triple chocolate. It was scrumptious. The atmosphere of an ice cream parlor from days gone by just adds to the experience. When I'm in the area, this will be my choice for ice cream.

Yelp
If I was simply driving down the street, I would have never stopped at Walls Old-fashioned Ice Cream. It's in a benefactor location in me of a paint job. However, after eating at The Big Cheese across the street, we were in the mood for something sweet. I'm a chocoholic so I immediately ordered the chocolate. I wasn't overly impressed. I've had better and to be honest I should have stopped and bought Breyers on the way home.

Yelp
If you're on Dixie hwy in coral gables, chances are you've passed this spot. It looks very intriguing because of its vintage vibe. The inside is even better! It felt like a mom & pop place so i just knew the flavors were gonna be good. I ordered the butter pecan malt (not milkshake) & WOW 10/10. Not too sweet. It was a bit of a line but it's ok because i didn't mind waiting inside while I looked at all the memorabilia. I would come back again and try their pistachio ice cream for sure (they were out). 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Walls Ice Cream is always an enjoyable place to go to. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and it hasn't changed one bit. It's fun to go and see the old photos of the wall from years ago. The ice cream is always great. I tend to get the chocolate chip cookie dough or the mint chocolate chip. I've never been disappointed. Recently, I ordered the brownie sundae, and it was huge! So good! We live close by, so it's a fun spot to walk to, as well. Sometimes, they have cartoons playing outside, which is fun. Wall's is an institution, and I hope it never changes!

Yelp
The sweetest little place! Literally and figuratively. Walking into Wall's is like being transported back in time. Both inside and outside the decor makes you feel like you're in a cute ice cream store from the 50s. The ice cream is good and the prices are super reasonable. They offer plenty of flavors and some good sundae options. We got a two scoop sundae with a dry topping, a wet topping, and whipped cream for somewhere around $7-8. The sundae was a delight and the kids scooping it were very sweet and patient. As an added bonus, it's accessible off of the metrorail for those trying to drive less. An absolute gem!

Yelp
Red and white wallpaper. High schoolers behind the counter. Prices that bring you back to a time before inflation rocked Miami. Wall's is a special place. The laid back minimalism in a shop decorated just as I imagine it was 40 years ago brings back a sense of calm and wonder of being a kid again eating an ice cream cone on a hot day. A place where the only reminder you are in 2024 is the credit card reader is a special place that we are so too quickly losing in this rapidly changing city. Yes there are better options in terms of quality, but for the affordable prices, friendly staff, and reminder that life doesn't always have to move at 100 mph makes Wall's an indispensable asset to the Magic city.

Yelp
Come with me to Wall's Old Fashioned Ice Cream in South Miami. Right off US 1, you can find Wall's, a charming old-fashioned ice cream shop with a big sign you can't miss. On this visit, I went with a milkshake. For their milkshakes, you can select up to 3 of their ice cream flavors. I went with two flavors, Triple Chocolate and Coffee, which were perfect. The consistency was excellent and very chocolaty. Overall, Wall's Old Fashioned Ice Cream was incredible. The service was lovely, and the old-school ice cream shop feel was there. I will be back to try one of their other fantastic menu options.

Yelp
Such a cute old school retro spot where we took our engagement photos! He had the heath bar flavor & I had the sugar free coffee one. They were both delish! Had so much fun

Yelp
After lunch in the area and reading the good reviews we headed to Wall's for dessert before leaving South Miami. For the last seven years it has been owned by Felipe Grabiel who managed to survive the pandemic by adding a takeout window to the outside. The ice cream shop has been a community staple for years and Gabriel used to bring his own kids here before he owned it. Wall's has a nostalgic look with it's red and white striped building and checkerboard floor. There are a couple of tables inside and more out front and on a side deck. My first impressions of the inside were it good use a good cleaning. Tables were dirty and walls and floor needed a scrubbing. Wall's specializes in classic flavors like pistachio, vanilla, coffee, Oreo Heath bar, and strawberry are scooped out of a tub which can be turned into hakes, sundaes, malts and old fashioned sodas. Additionally there are seasonal and no sugar flavors. They also sell fudge although I didn't actually see any. Wall's is famous for their Great Wall Challenge which requires you to finish 5.5 pounds, 36 scoops of ice cream, 3 dry toppings, 2 wet toppings, banana, brownie, whipped cream, and a cherry. If you can do it your picture is placed on the wall of fame. I settled on a scoop of chocolate chip mint that could have used more chocolate. and which was scooped by an anemic teenager with his ear buds in who looked like he would rather be anywhere but here. He couldn't wait to sit back down and go on on his phone. The gentleman who helped my friend seemed more energetic. I can see how if you lived in the neighborhood this might be a good place to stop by with your kids. They had it decorated cutely for the holidays but all the inflatables were laying there lifeless. I personally prefer artisanal ice cream and everything at Wall's from the ice cream, to the service, to cleanliness made this a one and done for me.

Yelp
Families love taking the kids here. It's been around since 2000 if my memory serves me well. The inside and outside patio needs a little love and looks a bit weathered. The ice cream tastes homemade and all the flavors are pretty tasty. Great place to stop in for dessert after some pizza at Big Cheese across the street. I've always found some of the patrons to be a bit snotty but that's not the businesses fault. I give it an overall experience of a 3.5 stars.

Yelp
Walls walls walls you never disappoint! I went with my brother and my sister-in-law just to grab some ice cream and it turned into a really nice evening with delicious ice cream, gotta love that chocolate!. Thank you! Diana

Yelp
Every time I have went here, it was great. But I came today and it was not great, the server said they were out of peanut butter ice cream, then they said I couldn't have the chocolate either, finally when I got it, they didn't even give me cookie dough. I still recommend this place, but go on a weekend or midday any day of the week.

Yelp
The ice cream is great and the ambiance is very chill. Good service as well. Please update the patio games for kids

Yelp
Hands down the best ice cream in Miami. I've been going to Walls for years and have never been disappointed. They have one of my absolute favorite flavors that I've never found anywhere else (Oreo Heath Bar Crunch). The staff is extremely friendly, and it's in a great location with plenty of outdoor seating and some indoor seating. Can't say enough great things about Walls! If you haven't gone already I don't know what you're waiting for.

Yelp
Stoped in with the grandkids after picking them up in day care. This is a cool old style ice cream spot with tons of flavors. There are only 3 tables inside but plenty more seating outside. The have tv playing cartoons and for small kids (3 feet it smaller) a free small cone. The ice cream is creamy and tasty. I had the old stand by mint chocolate chip and tried a new flavor dulce de leche. Loved them both, the kids loved the ice cream and handing out here. Good service too. You can try a spoonful before committing. What a great place to grab an ice cream.!!!

Yelp
I am not really an ice cream aficionado but one thing I know is that this place has the best old-fashioned tasting ice cream I have ever had. This ice cream delightfulness has been in the same location spot for decades and it is always packed with people; and when I stopped by, it was no different. We had to wait to be called to place our order and it was worth the wait. Ordered -- *Cookie dough (kid's cup) -- Creamy, savory and all sorts of palate goodness *Pralines n' Cream (kid's cup) -- Smooth and all sorts of sweetness made my hubby grin from ear to ear with his southern favorite *Pistachio (kid's cup) -- Just the right amount of nuts mixed with the smoothest and most delectable ice cream I have ever had *Bonus -- they cater too..! If you haven't been, you must stop by and try this place...it's worth the trip and you won't be disappointed...Bon Appétit...!

Yelp
I like that Wall's is old school and an institution in South Miami. Unfortunately whenever we go for ice cream there they are almost always out of Rocky Road and it is not very tasty to get the bottom servings !
google avatar

Lynn C.

Yelp
Came for the rave reviews. The place is order from the window only. Where most of the menu isn't shown. So I look on my phone on the help photos to order. I overheard a lot of people getting a strawberry shake, so I ordered one. It was pretty good but expensive. Taste like actual strawberries. Then I ordered a custom sundae with one free topping. I guess they don't do that anymore and charged me for two scoops and a topping which is more expensive. And I didn't get whip nor cherry on top. Felt jipped about it. Not sure if I'll be back until they get an actual menu out.
google avatar

Yelp
This is disheartening from our family's traditional spot! On a Sat night to get our Banana Splits - RAN OUT OF BANANAS? Really! Then go get some at Tom's thumb next door! Just left! It's going down! Someone please buy it and save it
google avatar

Yelp
When in time do as the romans do...when in Pinecrest, in South Miami, on US-1... pretty much anytime you want quality shakes...treat yourself to Wall's. You may be thinking: what sets this place apart? Far be it from be to tell you what to think. However, I am incredibly biased when it comes to the delicious dulce de leche shake because I'm currently enjoying one. Right here in my car. Don't drive and shake, lest your one half of Ricky Bobby's race team. Wall's offers Fresh, not frozen. Real ice-cream. "iS tHeRe eVeN fAkE iCeCrEaM?" Yea, there is. If you can't tell the difference, don't worry. Go to Wall's, order anything, and see the difference. It's a staple of a monument. Come after you enjoy a slice of pizza across the street or if you're the type to enjoy desert before dinner because you've got a fresh palete. No, not the paint stuff. That part of your mouth that craves a sweet delicious treat because...Miami is hot and you deserve quality things in your life. They offer cones and fudge and all sorts of other delicious items. Just check out their menu in the pics with this review PROTIP Free cone for your 36" or below kiddos

Yelp
This place offers Miami nostalgia and the best strawberry shakes in town! The gentleman who assisted as was also very kind and helpful with all the customers. I'm sad it even took me this long to try this place out.

Yelp
Amazing icecream! The staff is super friendly. It has a worn down atmosphere but those busniesses always tend to deliver. will definitely come back.

Yelp
A classic ice cream parlor in the heart of south Miami. You can't go wrong visiting this sweet spot for your old-fashioned sweets fix. They offer a good variety from vintage sodas, homemade fudge, and of course ice cream. My usual go to is rocky road or some version of cookies n cream, they swap out flavors somewhat often so make sure to check the menu to make an informed decision ;) Our last visit was in October, so the whole place was decked out in Halloween decor and they offered some seasonal flavors. I'm a sucker for pumpkin, so opted to try a couple scoops on the sugar cone. The flavor itself was delicious, but the texture seemed a bit off, like really icy rather than creamy unfortunately. Overall, it's a pretty decent spot to support local ice cream. There's a good amount of parking, and some tables to enjoy the goods right there and then. Also a fun note to add: they have a mega "The Great Wall of Ice Cream" challenge!!! Finish it all and get your pic in the wall of fame.

Yelp
Love Wall's! We had just finished lunch for my niece's birthday but they had a limited dessert selection. My dad's been bringing the grandkids here for years so he immediately suggested it. Perfect spot on a beautiful, hot & sunny Miami day. We ordered and walked over the their shady side deck & played giant Jenga & Connect 4. Great fun for the kids AND the adults. Bummed that they no longer have fudge but the ice cream is good and the ambience is even better. Had pistachio in a sugar cone & it def hit the spot. Such a sweet shoppe!
google avatar

Karina B.

Yelp
Love Wall's! Small cozy Ice cream place. Has sitting inside and outside. Very cute and has an Old fashion feel. They are always very friendly and nice with fast service.
google avatar

Monica A.

Yelp
Just a little old place that makes you feel at home. Best dulce de leche ice cream around! Let's talk about the BEST ice cream shop in south Florida. This is an OG ice scream spot- you can tell by these beautiful pictures really capturing the ambiance of the place. Pictured: cookies and cream milkshake & cookies and cream ice cream with brownie bites on top cutest outdoor seating! The also have a jumbo connet4, hopscotch, and a few old school games! Right across famous big cheese pizza, something sweet to top off your meal!
google avatar

Noah C.

Yelp
My brother and I walk in and stand here for a good minute waiting to be served as both employees are sitting on their phones. Bad service!
google avatar

Fox E.

Yelp
So if you shop at Big N Talls Or if you have really big balls You'll find this so creamy That you'll start to see me As the bro that got you into Wall's If Wall's could talk, they'd say "we have great ice cream, some of the best in Florida!" My notes say - Excellent thick chocolate ice cream, not cheap, v popular. This is a wonderful ice cream store which is definitely not possessing the Latin Flavour that much of Miami does, and can be a little Bland, but the old fashioned is definitely the key here, and if you stick with the famous old fashioned flavours, you won't be disappointed, as they are very tasty, and it's thick and delicious. So despite the fact that it's extremely popular and not cheap at all, I still have to give five stars for this thick, excellent chocolate ice cream, which reminds me but my favourite classic chocolate ice cream up at Antoinette's in Buffalo. And if your name is Richard, like many customers here, then all in all, you're just a...nother Rick in the Wall's.
google avatar

Alyssa H.

Yelp
I had been meaning to stop at this place for quite some time & finally my boyfriend & I did! There was a line but it was a Saturday & a small place. The ice cream is worth the wait, the employees were kind & so patient. I loved the ambience as it definitely had an old fashioned class ice cream parlor style!
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
I came here early on a Saturday evening - I'd gone to Whip n' Dip first, but the line there was insanely long with at least a dozen people just waiting to get inside, so I drove a mile or two south to come here to Walls. While the place looked busy when I pulled up, most had already been served and were just sitting or standing around and enjoying their treats. I grabbed the last remaining parking space, walked up to the ordering window with no wait, and by the time I went to my vehicle to grab something and returned, my hot fudge sundae with peanuts and whipped cream was ready. The prices here are definitely reasonable - certainly cheaper than Whip n' Dip, and as I mentioned, there was no wait to order or pickup. That said, the sundae I had here also wasn't quite as flavorful and was definitely not as sweet vs. what I've had elsewhere.

Yelp
Our group of four walked in here tonight, it was pretty quiet. The two women working the counter were friendly and gave us many samples. Unfortunately, every bit of ice cream I tried didn't impress me... The Cookie Dough, so so. The Praline, too sweet. The Oreo, okay. The Candy Floss, way off the mark on simulating that flavor. Vanilla chocolate chunk, too plain. So I went with the cookie dough by default (my usual favorite) but the pieces of cookie dough were tiny and hard, and not tasty at all. We sat inside and ate our cups/cones. It was nicely air conditioned, but there only a few tables to sit at. They had lots of tables outside to enjoy your treat. Total cost for 3 small cones and 1 scoop in a cup was $18.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Wall's has really been a staple of South Miami for decades. Their flavors are great ( love the Pistachio) and their servings are immense. For the area, you really can't beat the prices, either. We visited on a Friday night and although their indoor service is closed, you can still order from the window and enjoy your sweet treat in their outdoor seating. Service is always friendly and fast. A great spot to pick up a dessert!
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
Cute Lil old fashioned ice cream shop. I have driven past loads of times and this time I stopped worth my little charges. I ordered 2 plain cones with vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips.. the kids loved it. I ordered an Orio Heath bar crunch on a plain cone. The cones we're very crispy and the icecream was good. Apparently this place has been here a while. They also let you sample before trying, which is a great touch. For three ice creams it cost 14.73 which included the taxes...very cheap at 3.99 a piece in my opinion for Miami. I will be back.
google avatar

Teresa S.

Yelp
One of the best ice creams I have EVER tasted!!! My grands love this place. Creamy with great toppings... very different flavors

Yelp
Wow! We are from St. Louis and vacationing in Miami for a month. My wife has a slight ice cream obsession so after doing some research we ventured to Wall's and are we glad we did! 1. We have our puppy, a Bernedoodle with us. I wanted to give him a treat tonight so I ordered a kids cup of vanilla ice cream. After realizing it was for our pup the young woman at the window said, "oh we ha e a dog ice cream that's yogurt that you're welcome to have, and IT's FREE!" Sold! Our puppy about lost his mind over that tiny little cup of ice cream (perfect size though for a dog.) His tail was wagging the whole time he devoured it and then he went for ours! No way, buddy! 2. We both ordered our various ice creams and I have to say...this is absolutely the type of quality one expects when you hear 'old fashioned'. Rich, extra creamy, depth of amazing flavors. The coconut joy was chocked full of coconut and chunks of chocolate! Divine. The triple chocolate was something that will torment my memories when we're back in St. Louis! Bravo to Wall's! Well done ice cream and top notch customer service!

Yelp
I visited here for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I live very close to here and for the past 3 weeks I am tempted to turn into their parking lot every time I pass by. There is no reason this ice cream should be this good!!! Smh! Lol. First time I visited I got the Banana Split with strawberry, vanilla and birthday cake ice cream, peanuts, sprinkles and hot caramel(which they gave me to go.) It was simply delicious! Just by eating the birthday cake ice cream I knew I had to return! I have never had something so good. Since then I have returned to buy 2 pints of birthday cake ice cream :( lol! It is so rich in flavor, has actual pieces of cake and sprinkles in it. I will be back again this weekend, unfortunately. Lol!

Yelp
Cheap & delicious ice cream! Will continue to come here anytime I have an ice cream craving! New outside area with picnic tables and string lights!
google avatar

Yelp
Yea the service is good, the ice cream is ok not extraordinary flavors The place is cute in an amazing location close to Dixie However it needs to be cleaner and also needs a major revamp. I am sure they can bring more customers if they update

Yelp
This traditional little ice cream shop never gets old. Serving one of the best ice cream's in South Florida, walls old fashion ice cream is everything an ice cream lover can ask for. So many flavors to choose from and toppings. They also have three different cones you can choose to have your ice cream in. Every flavor I've tasted is creamy, and crafted perfectly to be able to taste every ingredient. Presentation is also great. One of my favorite ice cream spots in Miami.
google avatar

Traniece B.

Yelp
UPDATE 7/21/20: decreased from 5 stars to 3 stars. I've tried to go back to this place twice now. Both times were 30 minutes before closing. Myself and other customers pulling up were refused service. This business doesn't adhere to their daily business hours. Reminds me of eating ice cream with my grandma. From the prices to the GOODNESS that's Wall's ice cream, it gives all the nostalgic feels. I got a brownie sundae with the oreo heath ice cream and the coffee ice cream. You get FOUR SCOOPS (2 of each flavor), 1 wet topping and 1 dry topping, for - get this - $8 BUCKS . Great customer service and an all around Miami gem. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Wall's isnt the best ice cream but it does everything right. Classic hidden gem in Miami. A friendly neighborhood spot that I've been to as a kid and now I bring my daughter whenever im in the area.

Yelp
Ice cream was amazing and delicious, definitely recommend coming here with family and friends!

Yelp
Went yesterday around 10p with wife and kids was waiting inside 3 groups in front of me after waiting ten minutes other group walks in when it's my turn , the lady behind the counter ask the group the walked in 10 minutes after me what they wanted , i then told her excuse me we where here before that group she then stated that I was already being helped even though no one had come up to us, and I told her no one has helped us yet , she then proceeded to ignore us and help the other group , will never go again to place that could care less about it's costumers .

Yelp
I'm not sure what took me so long to try out this notorious ice cream shop, but I finally did! There is a separate parking lot free of charge right next to it. There's a few small steps to enter as well as ramp access. I noticed a handful of seating inside and more outside with umbrellas for coverage. Overall, this a cute and classic looking mom and pop type of ice cream shop that has been here for what seems like forever. My boyfriend used to work here back in the day and says it hasn't changed a bit. It's a small shop where you can choose several variations from ice cream cups, cones, waffles cups, milk shakes, even banana splits, and of course toppings of your choice. If you have a sweet tooth or are craving something sweet after dinner, I'd definitely recommend passing by this classic shop for some good old yummy ice cream!
